    Hello
Seems to me that the issues is not with the "nationality" of your iPod but more with your iPod generation and its compatibility with your car stereo.
For instance, here is a link to Alpine converter needed to connect and charge iPods (Nano and Touch) to Alpine stereo. It also lists the Alpine models that require this converter.

But I'm sure you will find your answer in this chart from Alpine. It gives the iPod / Alpine / connectino cable compatability

  • "The remuneration for private copying" - added €8 to iPod in France - Why?

I have just bought an IPod Nano as a gift for a friend who lives in France. I used Apple Store's new service which allows you to order and pay via their European service.
However, I did not see - until I had hit pay - that Apple France had added €8 to the account total (then plus TAX!)
This is a translation of the French 'Justification' for this charge
"Compensation for private copying and free recycling"
What is the remuneration for private copying?
The remuneration for private copying is a sum levied on any medium and recording equipment to compensate copyright holders (authors, performers and producers) of damage to their monopoly caused by private copying of works protected by law Copyright, like music, movies, television programs. The collection of remuneration for private copying is done by organizations representing copyright holders.
The recycling charge was minimal. Most was for Copyright
Why is this only via the French Apple Store? It did not appear when I tried to do the same order on the UK store?
Is this charge applicable in all countries - or the result of any new French laws?
Does anyone know the answer please?

I never saw the point of asking the question and answering it yourself here, is a bit confusing.
Apparently France is the only country with regulations adding these particularly levies to the purchase of an iPod, I have not seen others post this complaint. You can add it to the volume cap that France passed and now all EU countries are adhering to as another unpopular tax/law of French origin.
The other text you refer to comes from Carl's personal settings. Most use that space to post what computers/equipment they are using, others add personal touches. They automatically appear at the bottom of every post (you'll see my computer list below here) and have nothing to do with your particular question.

Yes, you have to carry the device if you want to use it.
and also why is there lots of different networks on my ipod which i can't get access without having a password?
    Because there are many personnel wifi networks around. It seems that most households have one. The assign a password for two main reason;
    - To not allow other users to steal their internet connection
    - To help prevent outside users from gaining access to their computer.

  • Album Cover Finder programme murdered my iPod

So - I've got a 160GB iPod classic which has been working well and synching well. I then (in retrospect - foolishly) decide to download Album Cover Finder from Amphonic Designs. It pulls down album cover art perfectly well but as soon as I connect the iPod to synch, iPod and iTunes crashes.
As a result I uninstall Album Cover Finder; delete stored artwork; and delete all music for which I'd downloaded art. But to no avail - my iPod is now no longer recognised and whenever I plug it in it tells me that the iPod is corrupted and needs to be restored.
I've now restored it 3 times; I've tried to download new USB drivers; I've tried to give it a new drive letter; I've done the 5 R's - absolutely nothing works. Most of my music is still in iTunes, but my iPod now has NO music on it and isn't recognised by the system, except as being a corrupt iPod which needs to be restored (as mentioned above - to no effect).
So now I'm looking at my beautiful new iPod and it seems to be completely dead. And this makes me very sad indeed.
    Any suggestions?

Yes, a restore will erase the iPod. It is a bad idea to only have your stuff on the iPod (this issue you are having is a good example why) since if anything happens to the iPod, you lose everything.

  • ITunes Freezing Intermittently when Playing from iPod

    Hello,
If anyone could shed any light on this I'd be most grateful. My problem, like many others, began when I updated the iTunes software a few days ago but the problem itself seems to be different.
My iPod is mounting fine and iTunes recognises it okay. I always play my music off my iPod and don't keep it in the library, which up until now has produced no problems. However, since updating iTunes keeps freezing in the middle of playing, as if I've hit pause. It does this a few times and then re-starts after a minute or so. After doing that maybe four or five times it crashes the programme completely and iPod freezes as well.
iPod then won't eject, even if I eject it off the desktop. iTunes won't quit, even using force quit it just keeps coming back, and then the whole system crashes and I have to do an emergency switch-off. Most times, the iPod itself stays frozen on the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen and obviously I'm damaging both iPod and PowerBook by having to dismount it without correctly ejecting and switching off without shutting down. It's driving me insane!
Any ideas? Preferably ones that don't involve major things like totally re-formatting the iPod - especially because to transfer my music back on to my computer is probably going to cause it to crash again.
I've got a 20GB 3G iPod - are Apple just making software that totally ruins older generation iPods or what?!
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Jess

You should get your songs into iTunes and then immediately back them up.
To get the songs off your iPod and into iTunes, see this post from Zevoneer > http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11857456&#11857456

  • My ipod classic will not play on my Alpine w970BT

I have just purchased an Alpine W970 BT but my ipod will not play as it should,it does not recognise albums, all my music has been loaded from CDs into my library on itunes. When sellecting an album to play, there is a counter on the screen which should say the track number playing and the total tracks on the album, for example 001 of 020, this will not happen it shows 001 of 001,which it will play the first track then repeat it.REPEAT is NOT switched on.My itunes programme which the ipod is synced from is the very latest, updated about a week ago.The Alpine unit fitted just over a week ago is a brand new model. My daughter also has an ipod classic which is loaded from an itunes programme which has not been updated for many years,we pluged that in to the Alpine and it works perfectly.Just to carry out another test,I loaded my complete library onto a memory stick from the folders stored on the My Documents Music files on my computer, this also works perfectly, but I can not get the Album Artwork which would show on the Alpine screen if connected to an ipod that worked, and I cannot play Playlists that I have created. In desperation I also purchased a brand new ipod and synced that to my original itunes library, exactly the same problem. After running these tests, and when I loaded the memory stick, the itunes programme was left out of the equasion,I therefor feel the problem is with the up to date itunes programme.I visited the Apple store in Kingston upon Thames and tried to explain the problem to a member of staff who was no help at all,in fact his suggestions of what to try lead me to say,"You have not listened to a thing I have said",and the conversation finished with no resolve.ANY IDEAS ? or itunes any response.

If it is a 5-year old iPod, there is the possibility that the receiver simply won't work with the older software (there hasn't been an iPod Classic software update in years). You might try contacting Yamaha support (or doing a google search) to see if it is a known issue. One solution (probably the easiest) is to get a cable that connects a min jack (i.e., a headphone jack) to stereo cables, and just connect the iPod up that way. You eliminate the risk of corrupting the iPod, and it is a solution that should always work. Just use a wall charger to power the iPod.

  • Can an iPod used previously with a Mac be used on a PC?

Name says it all really - I'm upgrading from a 30GB to an 80GB and I want to give my old 30GB to my girlfriend. I use a MacBook and she has a PC. Will my iPod work with her PC? I realise that I'd have to install iTunes on her PC of course. Will I have to restore the iPod to factory settings before I give it to her or what?
    Thanks for any help/suggestions
Also, if I buy my new iPod in France, it'll still work ok with my UK-bought MacBook won't it? I'd just have to reset the language I would think...

  • Ipod touch mixer

Hi people, this is my first post on here so don't shhot me down in flames just yet!
    Anyway 2 questions really.
    1) good idea? why doesn't someone create a programme on the ipod touch that allows you to mix two songs together... i.e a dj mixing programme?
    2) can i transfer some of mu u/k dvd's onto ipod touch and watch them?
    mick

    1. The Touch doesn't support crossfade, but you can use other software and join songs together into one "mix" (song) that is crossfaded on the computer.
    2. Can't discuss copying DVDs to an iPod here.

  • Backup ipod contents to HDD

I had Har drive crash and needed to re-install everything including iTunes. all my music is on the ipod. I now want to restore everything from my ipod to the PC. How can I do this.
Syn means everything gets deleted from my ipod. that is not what i want to do.
How can bakc up the contents on my ipod onto the hard disk on my PC

There is a programme called YamiPod. Google it and download it. Its free and its one of them most used iPod to computer transferring programme used by iPod users (Windows and Mac users alike).

  • IPod nano (2Gen) - 50% volume missing

Hi. I recently replaced my 4Gnano (1st gen) with a 4G nano (2nd gen) after the original was stolen. I used the new nano last night for the first time and was surprised to find that the new nano has about 50% of the volume of the original. I confirmed I have the latest software, 1.1.1. As well, I confirmed the Volume Limit was set to max.
To make sure I just didn't forget how the original nano worked, I directly compared volume between the original (friend's nano) and this new second gen nano. I had others listen and compare as well where we all concluded there is at least a 50% drop in overall volume capability.
Thoughts? Any chance the software has internally limited the volume somehow? Is the volume profile (min --> max) inherently different in the second generation nano?
    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
    Dave

    No.
I am referring to the volume limit on European iPods.
A French law passed in 1998, set a volume limit of 100dBs for portable music players (walkmans). Apple specs call out 104dBs for the iPod.
    http://www.doctissimo.fr/html/sante/audition/sa5477_auditiondecibels.htm
"Un arrêté du 24 juillet 1998 complétant un article du code de la Santé publique (article L44.5) fixe un seuil de 100 dB à la puissance des baladeurs."
(A decree of 24 July 1998 supplementing an article of the code of the Public health (L44.5 article) fixes a threshold of 100 dB at the power of the walkmans.)
Apple posted a firmware update to Apple-France on 8 October 2002. This limited the volume in accordance with French law.
Most likely, after some research, Apple found EN 50332-1 and went with that.
The French law was pushed/developed into EN 50332-1 - Sound system equipment. Headphones and earphones associated with portable audio equipment. Maximum sound pressure level measurement methodology and limit considerations. General method for "one package equipment"
