Proper Converting Apps To Use For PC Users...

Hello all, I decided to create this thread because of all the content on converting being all over the place. This thread should only be used to describe how people converted videos, how they got it onto the ipod, and the programs they used. Some advice: I use Videora's Ipod Converter (http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/). It works perfectly and flawlessly with fast speeds. Use the SP/320x240/768kbps Stereo/128kbps option. If you need help, just repost here and I'll get back to you.

People all over the forums report QT Pro taking hours just for about 30mb and that is unacceptable.
H.264 compression does take significantly longer than MPEG-4 compression. QT Pro can do both. I ran a quick test to compare export times. Here's what I got...
Source video: foo.avi, 640x480, 82 sec play time
"Movie to iPod": foo.m4v, 320x240, 318 sec encode time, 5712 KB file size, good quality but gets pixelated in some motion sequences.
"Movie to MPEG-4": foo.mp4, 320x240, 67 sec, 3030 KB file size, very good quality and does not get pixelated in the same motion sequences.
So, I guess it depends on what's more important to you. The MPEG-4 output was about 4.7x faster than the H.264 output for the same source video. But, the H.264 video was almost half the size with better quality. Which is best for you? That's up to you.
Also, the h.264 format is said to not work properly on the ipod vid
From my tests, I haven't been able to get H.264 to work inside of an MOV container. It encodes fine, but iTunes won't let it on the video iPod. This is contrary to the iPod spec, which does say that H.264 is supported in an MOV container. It may be that I haven't found the right combination of settings for MOV. However, we have been able to get H.264 video to work inside of an MP4 container using the "Movie to MPEG-4" option in QT Pro. Also, the "Movie to iPod" option in QT Pro creates an M4V (not MP4) file with H.264 video and this definitely works on the iPod. So, I'm guessing the reports you're hearing are from people who tried MOV with H.264. The iPod can definitely play H.264 video, it just comes down to choosing a format and compression settings which work with the iPod. If you stray from the "Movie to iPod" option, you probably will create a bunch of videos that won't work. So, if you go this route, use a short duration source movie, because it takes quite a bit of trial and error to find the settings that actually work.

Yep. I've read 'em. Lots of views out there. I'm trying to contribute actual test results, instead of opinions and speculation. I'm sure there's going to be lots of ways to get video on the iPod, and by all means use whatever method works best for you.

I am using DPM 2012 R2, what finally worked to me to resolve my problem with EUR was to:
In DPM I disabled EUR
In Computer Management delete all DPM Shares (\\?\c:\Program Files\...)
Using ADSI edit go to CN=MS-ShareMapConfiguration,CN=System,DC=X,DC=Y (Replace X & Y for your domain)
Delete all of the mappings within the container
In DPM enable EUR
In DPM on a protection group I created a new recovery point and selected “Only synchronize (available only for file data)”

The MacBook Pro power adapter is multi-voltage capable, so you will need just an AC outlet adapter for the New Zealand power system.

Hi,
I recently bought a used iMac (late 2013). Even when I am logged in the App Store app with my own personal account, it sometimes requires a new identification. Before downloading an update, a pull down window displays the previous owner's name in grey (not modifiable) and requires me to input a password.
I tried to logout and login back again, and it does not change the problem. This is obviously a bug since by pressing return without any password the downloading begins.
Is this an issue I can do something about other than send a feedback ?

Before buying a second-hand computer, you should have run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, whichever is applicable.
The first thing to do after buying the computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
1. If you don't own another Mac
a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
d. Some 2010-2011 models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you can't reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and Internet Recovery will not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
3. Partition and install OS X
a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
          OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
          The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
          You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
4. Other issues
a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.

What does the Mac App store mean for existing users of Aperture?

I was wondering how the Mac App store will affect existing users of the software. I have purchased Aperture and upgrades since its launch but because I've not purchased through the App store, how will I gain access to future upgrades?
When I go to the Aperture app in the store it shows as being installed but as I've not purchased it through the store, will I be eligible for future upgrades or will Apple expect me to purchase again?

There is no way Apple can update Aperture 3 without offering that update to every user, regardless of where the app was purchased. So, expect that Aperture 3.1.2 or whatever will be available to you in some fashion.
When the next paid Upgrade (to Aperture 4?) comes along, then we'll have to see what arrangements the offer.

Privacy Notice/Terms of Use for Portal Users

Is there any functionality within portal that would allow us to display a Privacy Notice/Terms of Use statement to users when they first try to log onto portal. Basically, we would want users to accept this agreement before being able to log onto portal? I'm guessing this can't be done through portal, but thought I'd ask anyway. Has anyone done anything like this whether through portal or through something custom they've done with portal? Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I just got an automated email welcoming me to Creative Cloud (a full month after I had started the process). I have never agreed to the T&C's and never checked a box indicating that I did. It's really hard to agree to the rats nest of conditions most of which seem to have absolutely nothing to do with anything I plan to use or even KNOW about (PhoneGap Build?, Adobe Translator??, EchoSign???)
Because of the email, I did a bit more digging. The "Phone Gap Build" says item 3 is a supplement to item 9.5... but there is NO item 9.5 in the general terms.

Setup of iWork in your wife's account should only occur the once.
Updates can be performed through your account and are usually performed via Software Update.
Messages should not be popping up in your wife's account if all the iWork updates have been performed.
Go to Software Update and download and install all the iWork updates.
Unless you keep OSX up-to-date, messages will continue to come up when your wife logs into her account.

JUst as Tim_S said. YOu will want a external battery pack. Unforatannly the 430 does not have the option to plug in a external battery pack so will want to pick up a 580 or one of the new 600 series.

I really want to use my new ipad at work for note taking at meetings, creating to do lists, actions etc, but most of my colleagues use laptops with MS Office (word mostly).
Does anyone have any recommendations as to whether I could do this, and if I can which app is best? Of course I want to email my colleagues with my notes so they can read them without losing any formatting I do on the ipad....?

If you're about to email them, take notes right there in the 'compose email' function. That way you can't lose any formatting ! Otherwise the Notes app isn't bad.
But if you want proper formatting flexibility then you're possibly best off getting a copy of Pages for iOS. This has lots of formatting flexibililty and exports to Word format.

Is there an app or way for multiple users to access contact info?

We are a small business that maintains a contact list of leads and clients in a MS word file. We can access those word files via our iphones, but only view them. Is there an app or way to have one person in the office maintain a database of leads and clients that a few users can access via iphone and simply touch the phone number to call them or touch the address for directions/map?
We know we could each input the info in each of our phones independently, but that is dumb - given someone in the office maintains such info as part of their job and updates it weekly/monthly whatever. Do you see what I mean? I cannot believe there is nothing out there for this.
Basically we are looking for a continuously updatable, multiple user, remotely accessible, interactive contact database with name, address, and phone number. I think that is what I would call it.
