Protecting Sequence Files From Modifications

I sure others have had to do this in the past.
What is the best way to protect the sequence file from being modified in the field?
Even I, with my limited TestStand skills, have gone in with a text editor and changed things in a sequence file.
We would like to encrypt the sequence file and then have code to convert it back as it is loaded.
Or is there a better way.
We are also encrypting the report files on the back end so those can't be altered easily.
Thanks

What version of TestStand are you using? According to this version 3.5 has some built-in security features.
If you don't want to or can't upgrade, there are a few other things I can think of. Are you getting copies of the test results from the CM. At each of the CMs I deal with, we insist on an Internet connection so that the test results are transfered to our local database. If I wanted, I could look at the limits and number of test in the results and compare to a master. I also install VNC on each of the deployed testers. This not only helps to debug when a problem arises, but I can do a simple check sum on the sequence file and compare it to my local copy.

  • Import sequence files from 29.976 to 23.976....HELP!

    Hi All,
Can someone help me with this very annoying issue.
I work with Nuke X, Assimilate Scratch and  Maya.  99% of the time I am transfering image sequence files from program to program.
When I import a sequence file into premiere cs5 or even cs4, the sequence comes in with a DEFAULT FRAME RATE of 29.976.
I work in 24 or 23.976 frame projects. I ALWAYS have to go Rick click/Modify/ interpret footage and change to 23.976.
Is there a way to set up cs5 to assume 23.976  as a default frame rate for image sequences?
    Also, Part two question:
I bought a video card that uses the MPE in cs5 and it works great. I could layer the heck out of the timelime.
But Only if the footage is from RED, Canon, quicktime, mpeg, etc.. If I  import my image sequence files, I DO NOT get fluid playback.
Does anyone out there get fluid playback from targas, DPX, Tiffs?
    Thanks,
    Lou

Holy Crap ! You Did it!!!
I have been changing that freakin thing from 29.976 to 23.976 , ten times a day, for 2 years.
I can 't believe it has been sitting there all that time. Then again, I wrote on Creative cow forum a while back, and nobody knew how to fix that.
    So...... you D Man
    A bug in CS5?
Yeah that figures,  Of course it would be a bug in importing  sequences. Just my luck.
I bought the new Mocha 2.0 which now has NUKEX importing.....
I spent 3 days trying to figure out why my timeline was off by 1 frame when importing....
Found out "Its a Bug" and had to wait for 2.01
My whole life is all about updates.

  • How to protect Conversion file from changes

    Dear All,
Is there any way to restrict users on change conversion files ? my requirement is, need to protect conversion file from changes.
I have tried normal Excel password protection,it is not working.
    thanks in advance...
    regards,
    Raju

    Hi Raju,
Why do you want to protect the conversion file?
Conversion file is used insight of transformation file only.
That's means if an user will change the transformation file to use another conversion file it doesn't matter if you protect the conversion file.
So actaully if I understood correct is that user should not be able to change the conversion and transformation file.
This can be done in two wat:
Into task profile don't give to the user access to do Organize package list.
Second into your DM package eliminate the prompt for transformation file.
    I hope this will help.

  • How do I batch delete all my protected music files from iTunes.

Hi, in a moment of stupidity, while I was working on a backup folder of my friends files (from his broken computer - copied them to my PC so he could get them back onto his new PC) I managed to copy all of his songs from his iTunes folder into my iTunes library. I don't know how I managed to do this, maybe it was the fact that I was really tired at the time.
I own all my music - none of my music is copy protected (it is either downloaded from legal sites where the bands themselves [usually unknown or alternative artists] release their music, or I ripped the music from CD's I bought) and all of his music is copy protected.
Now thing is, I have upgraded my PC before realising I did this, so now I don't have the original iTunes library (formatted PC and reinstalled XP from scratch) - is there any tools out there that will find and delete all your copy protected files from iTunes?
I could go through song by song and when it comes up with the "Authorise computer - This computer is not authorised to play "******" Would you like to authorise it" and delete those songs, but as this is a very slow and time consuming process and considering I have 8,551 songs, I would prefer a faster way.
I would go and re-rip all the songs, as I have the original discs, but this would take very long, and put quite a bit of strain on my CD drive, and this would not account for all the songs I have spent years finding on the internet/demo songs from friends bands.
Any help is appreciated, as I would love to be able to remove all of his songs so they don't keep popping up in my iTunes library
    Thanks in advance.
    Dale.

I have never tried this and am not at a computer with iTunes, but can you delete from a Smart Playlist? If so, you could make a smart playlist that shows songs that are of kind Protected ACC. Then select all and delete from that playlist. But I am not so sure if you can delete from a smart playlist.

  • Protecting swf files from being decompiled

At the end of the day, our flex apps are deployed as swf
files which have the potential to be decomplied and thereby our
intellectual properties lost. There are tools in the market which
claim to secure the swf files from being decompiled. Are these
tools live up to their claims? Is it worthwhile to spend money on
these tools? Would the protected swf become harder to deployed? Any
good products already available in this line? Please point out
    some. Thx.

Most of the tools I have seen are geared towards extracting
resources from swf's. I use one myself (eltima.com) for
"harvesting" manufacturers content for my motorcycle dealers. They
are authorized to use this content, but finding someone at Yamaha
of Kawasaki or any of the majors who even knows where to find these
resources is next to impossible. I have also used it to learn from
by viewing scripts, but as you say, at the end of the day, I think
the concepts and best practices are about the only thing worth
taking away from others efforts, not the code.
Unlocking a protected file can be done as well and I remember
using a product over a year ago to get at the scripts within an swf
(I wanted the URL's that pointed to media - it was legal for me to
do this). It ran from the command line and output the scripts.
There aren't too many of these types of programs to be found, but
    they exist.
My personal opinion is that it's not worth the effort. My
java classes can be decompiled and if someone wants to go to that
trouble, more power to them. To my knowledge, there isn't anything
out there yet that is perfect for backwards engineering an swf into
an MXML file, but a competitor of FLASH Decompiler says that they
can decompile Adobe 9 PLAYER swf's. For what it's worth, I plan on
posting the majority of my code on my flexdev.org site once I get
    it established.
For people who make components for sale, this could be an
issue of stolen revenue if the decompilers get sophisticated enough
to reverse engineer the swc into a usable MXML file. I would be
against anyone who stole code for this purpose, for sure.

  • Protect DLL Files from being deleted or unregistered

I am looking for a way to protect a DLL file from being deleted or unregistered.
My users have an application that uses the same DLL files as another application. This is in a test environment, so when they are uninstalled they step on each other by deleting or un-registering the DLLs.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
These apps are designed to delete the DLL file in uninstallation process. You can test to Deny the Delete permission on the DLL file as a test but it may cause a new issue that application think they failed to uninstall itself clearly as the DLL file cannot
be deleted. Just have a try on Deny Delete permission in NTFS security.

  • Does Pages have a password function to protect my files from kids?

    Hi all,
I want to protect my Pages files from tampering by our kids if I get distracted by someone at the front door and don't log out of all my software and computer. I downloaded the trial version, and it doesn't seem to have the Password option in the Save options?
I also have some business and financial information I'd like to password protect. Serious hackers could probably get past my passwords, but at least not the kids.
    Any ideas?

If you were to think laterally about this, you could also create encrypted archives for just those folders or files you were interested in to minimise the possible harm. Similar to the disk images Magnus suggested, but slightly less trouble. Modern Macs are very fast at unarchiving these files so you can work on them then archive them again without too much trouble.
I am a great fan of those tiny USB harddrives and thumbdrives, which easily slip into your pocket so you can take them with you.
My backup consists of a set of three 4Gb USB thumbdrives for my documents and 3 differently colored USB harddrives for my larger material.
If your work is on these, you simply detach them from your computer and keep them locked up or on your person.
Nobody will be able to access those without bailing you up.
… And of course you can use a combination of any and all of the above suggestions.

  • How to load the sequence file from the process model?

Does anyone have an example process model that loads a sequence file? The out-of-the-box process models assume the sequence file is already loaded. I want the process model to identify the UUT type and load the appropriate sequence file based on that.

    Mark,
A better solution to your question can be accomplised if you have TestStand 2.0.
Within the entry point of a process modle you can set the client sequence using Execution.ClientFile(). This is a new method of TestStand 2.0. It was specifically designed so that you could dynamically set the client sequence within the process model.
Currently the entry points in the default process models (i.e. Test UUTs and Single Pass) are configured to Show Entry Point When Client File Window is Active. This means that you must open and have active a client sequence file before you can execute one of the entry point. You probably do not want this implementation if you are going to set the client file during the entry point execution. To change this you will need to go the sequence properties of your entry point (while the sequence is open select Edit>>Sequence Properties), switch to the Model tab of the entry point's property dialog box, and enable Show Entry Point For All Windows. The entry point will then appear whether or not you have an open sequence file active.
You will need to add at least 3 steps to your entry point sequence that all use the ActiveX Automation Adapter. Remember that MUST disable Record Results for any step you add to the process model. The 3 steps will perform the following tasks:
    1) Obtains a sequence file reference of the file that you want to be the client sequence file. You will need to use the Engine.GetSequenceFileEx method. You will need a local variable (ActiveX data type) in which to store the sequence file reference.
    2) Set the client sequence file using the Execution.ClientFile property.
    3) Close the reference to the client sequence file in the Cleanup step group of your entry point sequence using Engine.ReleaseSequenceFileEx
I am attaching a SequenceModel.seq file (the default process model in TestStand 2.0) in which we have modified the TestUUTs entry point as described above.
Note that you'll be prompted to enter the path to your client sequence file. This is a message popup that you can delete and it was added for your review only.
    Good luck in your project,

  • Protect class Files from Decryption?

Hey. I have a couple of Java classes I wish to share with some people, but I would like to add a copyright/credit giving message into the program. This code is the kind of code people would want to steal and take credit for, which is why I'm only (if I can encrypt them) giving out the .class files and not the source code. The thing is, it took me about 5 seconds of searching on Google to find programs that can easily be used to decrypt .class files and get a re-compilable source from them.
So I was wondering, is there a [somewhat] foolproof way to protect against people decrypting the .class files to get the source? Is there some program I can run them through that will make it so they can't be decompiled, but will still run on a machine with a standard Java runtime installed? I probably won't be giving out the classes if there isn't a way to do this.
    Thanks

There are programs out their that semi pseudo scramble your code but if someone wanted to they can always reverse it and have a look at your source. What you have to admit is that your code is nothing special and nobody would really want to steal your code. If you are paranoid about it, about the most you can do is add some copyright message and threaten them with legal action.

  • Application Security - Protecting the files from direct access

I am working on my application. I have a Flex app that
everyone will access but to do the work, I have it calling on
several PHP files. The Flex app has a login system and only allows
advanced functionality after login. This protects the Flex portion,
but does not really account for the PHP side of things.... The PHP
files do a variety of things, mostly SQL calls, but also run a few
    system commands.
How do you set up the PHP files or use an htaccess file to
only allow the Flex app to call the PHP files? I'd like to set it
up so that the users can't directly access the PHP files. However,
I'm sure the client workstation is still making the request when
called by the Flex app, right?
Has anyone done this? Does anyone have any thoughts or
    suggestions on this?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi csawall,
These are just some off the top ideas, you can extrapolate
and create a solution that might work:
Since the client has access to the data stream to/from the
server, there is no way to guarantee that someone won't use some
kind of sniffer program to find what file the flex app is talking
to, but that doesn't mean that you can't obfuscate it as much as
possible to make it not worth trying.
One idea was to use a single index and use _GET to control
what content is being served, using includes on the php side to
    serve the proper file/content.
Since the content you are delivering I would assume requires
authentication, you'll have a unique session ID to work in. While
the actual php file could be accessed in real time if you watched
the data stream, if the user is already authenticated, what diff
does it make? Set up specific rules inside your php file, so that
it must receive data using a specific protocol, one that you can
obfuscate using crypt and base it on variables that are unique,
such as SSID + date + time, etc. When you first authenticate with
the server from the flex app, have the php login script return the
required protocol rules back to the flex app that would be unique
to the session. The _SESSION variables on the server would contain
the unique protocol rules as well. This gives you server side
control over talking to the flex app... then all you would need to
do, if you wanted to keep a tighter lid on the access to your
script, is just rotate the protocol from time to time.
Add on top of this, script name obfuscation that you store
server side and transfer only withing the validated session, such
as e.g. fstrs4adadst4_somefile.php etc etc, where your randomized
key is the prefix (or suffix whichever you prefer) of your index.
Your code of course would use the current protocol keys to match
the current index, and all you need do is control the .htaccess
file so that it relays any $_somefile.php to the proper
file/directory etc which would be a name that would never be
revealed to the public, and only used inside your .htaccess file or
    on the server side itself.
Taking it a step further, if you create some kind of pulsing
authentication system using the above methods, you can rotate the
keys fast enough, so that someone would have to work really hard to
figure out the protocol to talk to your server
    Just my 2 cents...

  • Password Protected ZIP files from Windows

Hello everyone, I had created ZIP files in my windows PC way back and I have password protected them. Now I copied them to my MAC, and when I try to unzip, it does not ask for a password and gives me an error message.
I know I can go back to my PC and unzip those files with the password, then zip them and copy them to my MAC, but I don't want to run my PC unless I really have to and I am curious to see if there is a way to have Archive utility to ask for the password.

  • Protect jar file from unzip utility

    Hi
I have an application in .jar file and I don't want that the client
can extract or unzip and see the contents of my .jar file. But still the .jar file
could run by mouse double click or java -jar command.
Anyone can give me an idea how to do it.
    Thanks...

If java can read it on your client's machine, the client can read it. There is no way to prevent this. Here's the general cycle:
    int protectionMode = chooseProtectionMode();
    boolean haveCustomers = true;
    while (haveCustomers)
      switch (protectionMode)
        case OBFUSCATE:
//You can obfuscate your code to make it (marginally) harder to
//reverse-engineer.  If your client is really interested in your
//code, this won't keep them from figuring out what it does.
          break;
        case ENCRYPT:
// You can encrypt most of your class files, and build a
// decrypting classloader, and build a framework that calls
// the decrypting classloader to get at the rest of the jar.
// Of course, your client can just arrange to call your
// classloader from their own, and write the (decrypted)
// classfiles to disk, and then reverse engineer them.
          protectionMode = OBFUSCATE;
          break;
        case STATECHECK:
// You can put some kind of check in your decrypting classloader
// that calls System.exit() if it discovers it's being called in
// such an unfriendly way.  Your client will take about 10 minutes
// to find and remove the check.
          protectionMode = ENCRYPT;
          break;
        case REMOTE:
// You can keep your code on your server and let the client run
// something that talks to it.  The client will complain
// vociferously, and refuse to use your app.
          haveCustomers = false;
          break;
        default:
// You can decide to stop stressing over something you can't
// help, and write code that people will buy
}(Sorry - in an odd mood, seen this question or one like it too often recently, not enough sleep...)

  • How to protect class files from being decompiled?

You may consider looking into Java native compilers.
I'm referring to compilers that take existing Java
