PS CS4 & 2 monitors

I use two monitors.
In previous versions PS remembered which monitor you were working on images. When you opened a new image it opened it in the same monitor you were working in.
Now it always opens it in the same monitor, which in my case is the wrong one.
It has become a drag to keep dragging the window to the monitor I want.
Does anyone have a work around or a preference setting or is Adobe going to fix this?
thanks
bob

Good morning (at least here in Berlin).
Well, it does not work. As the first poster wrote, "In previous versions PS remembered which monitor you were working on images. " CS 4 does not remember anymore, this is very annoying. But, I see, many have this problem, it seems still unresolved. My workaround up to now is this:
- leave in the settings "application frame" checked and save this workspace. Now, it will remember and open the new files in the application frame on the big screen.
- then, when all the files have been opened, uncheck the "application frame" but do not save the working space again. Now, the application frame is gone, but all the pictures are still open on the second monitor, just like they were in CS 2.
I understand you answer that "I do not have to use the CS 4... " as sarcastic. Is it?

  • CS4 - Dual Monitor Setup - Files open on wrong screen + Preview Adjustment layers

I have various workstations running Mac OS 10.5.8 three run PS CS3, and one runs CS4
In CS4 files always open on the monitor I have allocated for my palattes.  Before CS4, Photoshop would open files on the monitor that my last filed was opened on.  This is highly annoying!!! How can I fix it so that it at least always opens on the same monitor.
(My menu bar is on the monitor I've designated for my palettes menu and not the monitor I do all my color work on.)
Also, any hopes that we will be able to have a preview button for adjustment layers again?  This is highly annoying, and if I'm able to do so when adjusting directly onto a layer, why don't I at least have the option to have a preview button when having an adjustment layer????

Well if you menu bar is on your "second" monitor, it's generally considered now the "first" monitor, and hence most files will open on that screen by default. But sometimes you can make a file open on the other monitor if you have your mouse cursor in the other monitor. So put  your cursor on the desired screen, press command-O and the open dialog should show there, and the image should open there too. Also works if you double click a file on the desktop of the 2nd monitor. (Usually, these are the window opening dynamics as best I can figure).

  • Why it is still jumping and flickering in CS4 source monitor ?!

I've converted AVCHD 1920x1080 50i 25mbps m2ts files (shot by sony hdrcx350ve) in sony vegas 9 pro to hdv 1440x1080 25fps bitrate 25000 upper fields first.
When opened in media player everything seems allright footage has no artifacts. The same footage imported to cs4 during playback in source monitor has some strange artifacts. Picture is jumping - flickering: long lines from left to right side of screen during motion. Prestets are set directly to footage attributes.
I've already tried many options of conversion and nothing seems to be working. I used tmpg enc, sony vegas, avc encoder.
    What it is?
    What I am doing wrong?
    What to do?
    Is this codec problem?
    Please help

  • CS4 Multi-Monitor Issue

    Hello,
I have been pulling my hair out all day with CS4 Production Suite. Photoshop, Premiere, etc. would max out the CPU at 100% while loading and literally take about 5 minutes to even start up on a Dual-Core 4GB RAM Latitude 830 running Vista.
Turns out the problem is a dual monitor / display driver issue (that I'm sure many other people will eventually have).
On my laptop itself, I have NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M video card in which I am running my main laptop monitor along with a docked monitor. Then, I have a second video card installed in my docking station that runs 2 more monitors (totaling 4) - an NVIDIA GeForce 6200. If I disable the 6200 driver, everything runs extrmely smooth. If I re-enable the driver, everything goes into crash mode (as far as CS4 is concerned). I have all the most updated drivers (and I have even tried downgrading some of the drivers to make sure that didn't fix it) -- no luck. I have also tried playing with the GPU setting in the Performance options of Photoshop -- no luck.
All of the other programs on my machine run without any problem; I have been running this config for quite some time now.
Adobe, if you could figure out the issue, it would be greatly appreciated. I would much prefer to run 2 video cards than one. (Oh - one more thing... everything works COMPLETELY fine with CS3. This is a CS4 issue.)
    Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    Ray

Ray, it will do a lot more good if you file an official bug report at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Be sure to describe the configuration in extreme detail.

  • CS4 Multiple Monitor Workspaces

I weave on a quad monitor setup. Normally, I have all of my
tools on one monitor, the designer view on another, and code view
on a third, all while testing output on the fourth.
I've noticed on DW CS4, that I can't save the workspace
layout when I use more than 2 monitors. After closing DW and
reopening, the configuration collapses back down to 2 monitors with
tools all over the place. YES, I've saved the workspace. No, it
doesn't matter which monitor is the "primary" for the application
either. It always collapses to 2 monitors.
Without saying I'm spoiled with quad monitors, can anyone
help? Has anyone else run into this problem yet?

Yes - but you'd need additional hardware - one of the Matrox Graphics eXpansion Modules.

  • CS4 Program monitor slow to respond

I'm using Premiere CS4 version 4.0.  I've got about 25 minutes of material in the timeline.  The problem is that when I click the cursor to a different position in the timeline, or press play, or shuttle in the Program monitor, I have to wait about 2 seconds before the picture starts moving.  Then playback is fine.  In the Source monitor, the reaction is immediate.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening, and what can be done about it?  It's quite annoying to have to wait all the time.
    Thanks in advance!

  • CS4 HD Monitoring

I have been unable to find a qualifed adobe seasoned computer person in the Portland Oregon area to solve and fix this question for me and so am hoping that one of you could give me some basic guidance. I need to know enough to point a professional computer tech in the right direction.
I am editing HD 1920 field footage (a mix of Red camera and DVC Pro 1080p) using cineform HD in CS4 and here is the question I can't seem to find a clear answer to. Beleive me, I have tried...I've tried Matrox Parhelia apve, dual cards etc etc and can't seem to configure what I need.
What (equipment/software) do I need to be able to send my HD program signal to so I can view it on an independent monitor? I want the best resolution I can afford since we also do some 3D modeling and might try some color correction.
    My system specs are:
    SuperMicro XDAE server board
Intel dual 3.0 ghz processors (4 cores)
    3 GB ram
    Win XP professional SP3
Nvidia GT 9600 GSO running dual monitors
The future plan is to have Vista installed for 64 bits, add 8-10 GB's ram and anything else I need to have done to bring this machine up to spec.Any thoughts greatfully accepted.

I know it's a moot point anyhow, but I don't think you can monitor full HD with the RT.X2, which works at 1440 x 1080. For full HD you need the Axio LE.
Given the proprietory nature of Matrox' products I'd also be surprised is you can edit with the codec you're using in a Matrox preset. However I don't know that for sure.
Matrox have, however, just brought out the MX02 mini which might be just the thing you need:

  • Photoshop CS4 Dual Monitor Tabs

I am trying to get Photoshop running COMPLETELY on my secondary monitor. I can get the images, tools, etc on that monitor. But if I minimize a file, the tab still minimizes to the bottom of the primary monitor. How can I get EVERYTHING onto one monitor?

I think that is normal, that is why it is called the primary monitor.  I know that is the way mine works with all applications.

  • CS4 Program Monitor Problem after 4.2

I just recently upgraded Premiere Pro to 4.2 and lo and behold I have some problems.
Video in the source monitor looks fine, however the program monitor has almost a ghosting effect on anything with movement.
I've updated drivers, re-installed, tried changing how the video is interpreted.  But alas, nothing has fixed it.  Everything use to work fine wtih 4.1.
Here is a screen cap with the source monitor on the left, and the program monitor on the right.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

I think Colin is right. Try right-clicking on the footage and uncheck "Frame Blend" and see if that helps.
Also, if I were you I would use the XDCAM EX 30P preset for that footage - you might find better results. You could also use Adobe Media Encoder to convert the footage to P2 to make the editing easier...I hear that footage can be tough to edit.

  • Dual monitor color issue - oversaturated image in CS4

Hi, I wonder if you can help. I found people having similar issues, but never seen an actual answer, so your input would be greatly appreciated.
    My set-up:
MacBook Pro Dual Core intel based 15.4 2.6GHz running OS X 10.5.6 - also my primary display
    HP LP2475- secondary display
    CS4
Both monitors were calibrated using X-rite Eye-one LT (each with a separate profile)
I've tried calibrating each monitor 3 times and still get the proble,
    My problem:
Running in dual monitor mode in bridge or safari/firefox- no problems at all: almost consistent colour between both monitors.
When I open the images in Photoshop CS4, they look fine on my MacBook screen, but when I drag them over to the HP the color is grossly oversaturated - especially in the red. What am I doing wrong? (in fact on the HP monitor, the color looks perfect in bridge but super insanely saturated in CS4)
Does anyone have a clue on how I can fix this?
    Thanks!

You say your running 10.5.6?  Why haven't you updated to 10.5.8?
FWIW, I never had color issues under 10.5.X, however I have since upgrade to 10.6.

  • Previewing via DVI Monitor... possible?

I saw on the Matrox site where they say the Parhelia Card offers, "Matrox PureVideo to view hardware-accelerated video playback in a video window on one display and full-screen on another display." - and the RT.X2 offers, "Matrox RT.X2 provides full-resolution HD monitoring on an inexpensive flat panel display via its independent DVI output."
Does anyone know 'Inexpensive' ways to edit w/ 2monitors & use a 3rd as your Full HD Program/Preview monitor?
(We shoot/edit XDCam-EX and do NOT have an NTSC HD Monitor))

Just use any old second (not in SLI or Crossfire mode) PCIe graphics card and monitor that can do 1920 x1200 for a third HD preview monitor.
    Really?
    So, will this:
#1 - Give me the option of setting it up exactly how they show it in the screengrab w/ 3 screens... whereas, I can have Premiere spread across 2 and a Full HD Program/Monitor (same as if I had an NTSC HD monitor) alongside my normal editing interface on the 3rd?
    -or-
#2 - Will this just give me an extra monitor whereas I'll have to drag my Program/Preview window and expand it to full screen?
-- I would prefer a method that would give me option #1 so I can continue my edit while allowing someone sitting close by to see the FullScreen HD Program playing on the 3rd monitor.
Although I am yet to hook it up, (stilll waiting on the WorkStation/NLE to arrive) Thank You Bill Gehrke for pointing me in the right direction.

  • Program Monitor - I'm not seeing whole clip when playing back

I'm real worried!  Having spent days of my life importing video and editing it - and then trying to fix my problem of only seeing a part of the playing-back clip in the program monitor which led me onto your site.  I've spent hours looking at your posts (and indeed Adobe help pages) trying to solve this and clearly (I think!) my original sequence settings have been wrong.  Maybe I can come back to that because I'm really not sure how to set these correctly.  My initial question please, if I complete my editing and then export this file, will I still only see part of the clips in the final version, or will I see the whole of the original movie clip?
    Some information:
    - Windows 7
    - Premiere Pro CS4
    - Program Monitor setting is "Fit"
    - 16:9 aspect ratio
    - PAL (based in the UK)
    - Sony HD camcorder - SR12E

Phew, hope that's enough information for you to 'kick start' me!
    Thank you.

Would you also be able to tell me if the Sequence Preset below is my correct preset for the future.  Thanks.

  • Dual monitor color settings seems to be messed up cs4

    Hi
    My daughter has this setup
AMD 9550 quad 2.2mhz machine, Windows 7 ultimate. latest updates
ATI Radeon HD 5700 gpu card (latest driver)
    Two LCD monitors
              1. LG 2361V HDMI (main)
              2. Cintiq 21UX (Extended)
Both monitors are calibrated, and have the latest driver updates. It does not matter which monitor is the main one.
    PS cs4 also has the
    1. If i load a photo in fireworks and drag the application back and forth accross the two monitors, the image looks virtually identical.
    2. If i load the same photo in PS (cs4 11.0.1) and do the same, the image looks perfect in the LG but immediately darkens when on the Cintiq.
              a. The darkening is not instantanious. It looks good for about one second before it changes.
              b. If I hover the image between the two monitors, then the darkening only is applied to half of the image.
    3. If i change the preferences to not "color match" (in the performance->open GL) then the image does not darken and it remains loyal to the color profile in place. But!!!! the navigator and color selection tools remain darkened while on the Cintiq. So if she chooses a color from the tool, it paints a different color on the canvas.
              a. If I modify the color settings, then the modification affects both monitors display and the difference issue does not go away.
Ideally we want to be able to select a color from the palette and have that color be what is painted onto the canvas. We also want the image to appear as similar as they do in fireworks.
    While Color Matching is checked:
On the cheaper monitor, the image and the navigation pane always has the same color appearance. when i change the color profile, the change is reflected in both the canvas and the navigation pane.
The same is true on the Centiq, but the image and navigation pane is always darker than on the other monitor.
    While Color Matching is UNchecked:
The color selection tool and the navigation panel are affected but the canvas is not. But the two monitors canvases match.
So. in order for the navigation and color selction tool to match the canvas, the color matching needs to be checked.
But this creates the darkening on the cintiq. No matter what profile i choose, the cintiq is too dark. and photoshop is doing it because fireworks does not do this.
How can i set it up so that all the colors are true to the profile, and match the nav and color tools?
    Thank you
    Any ideas will be appreciated.
    Jerry C

    Thanks
    @Noel
It sounds as if the monitors are using two quite different profiles, which may indicate the calibration is off a good bit on one of them and the profile was generated to compensate.  The clue here is that you see a change when you move a document from one to the other, and that temporarily (while an image crosses both monitors) you see quite a difference in it.
If you drag an image in a non-color-managed application across both monitors, so that specifically part of it is shown on one and part on the other, how different do they look?
Using fireworks or MSpaint or IExplore, an image looks pretty much exactly the same on either monitor as well as when spanning accross both.
The two monitors are clibrated so that all colors match on both monitors.
    http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
The Cintiq has a better contrast ratio so the whites are slightly brighter.
But!!!  If the moitors were not calibrated, then a fireworks image would look different on each screen. In fact they look exactly the same on both.
Even when the image spans accross the two screens.
It is only Photoshop that darkens the part of the image that hangs onto the Cintiq. And it is very dark.
Even in the famed "Monitor mode", the image is much darker than is is in IIE or MSPaint or Fireworks.
I dont want to disable the color profiling, as it is important to see what the target will look like.
But i do want to see what the target will look like! right now it is way to dark. No matter what profile i choose.
Also my examples are more to demonstrate the comparrison between the two monitors, but the goal is to get PS CS4 to work on the centiq. It would be nice to have the navigator and some panels on the other monitor and have the colors match, but more important is to have the colors on the cintiq look normal at all!
Thanks so far. but we are still messed up.

  • CS4-How do I remove a split screen in the Program monitor window?

I have Pro CS4 on a vista 64 OS. I am using the Mainstream encoders and my Program monitor window switches to a split screen every time I play the timeline. When I stop the playback, the screen returns to normal full screen with the last frame showing. When I start the playback again, the screen splits into two screens squishing the actual playback window to the left part of the monitor window. Any Ideas? Thanks.

I found the solution by changing my quality settings (in the top right hand corner of the program display window) from "Automatic Quality" to "Highest Quality".
I am not sure why it affects the display in this manner, but it just works this way and it is repeatable.
I am working with 50 Mb MXF files from a Sony PDW900 HD camera.I use the Mainstream codecs to inport the files. I am using a Nvidia Quadro CX as a video card with the latest drivers. I first thought that the Mainstream codecs were affecting the display somehow, but then again, I do not remember changing these display settings. Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate the response just the same...
