PSAPTEMP tablespace

HI all,
I am trying  to run an Import of the client and its getting stuck, so before running the import i started the Database Optimizer Statistics and when i checked the system log i was getting ORA-25153: Temporary Tablespace is Empty and then i checked DB02 and saw PSAPTEMP did not have any space allocated ,as i have restored this system and created a new Control file , so in the process the PSAPTEMP tablespace has affected.
PSAPTEMP     0,00     0,00     0     NO     0,00     0,00     0     0     0     0     ONLINE     TEMPORARY
Can someone please help me resolve this issue.
Thanks

    Dear all,
    After upgrading from 4.6c to ECC6.0, we found that the tablespace PSAPTEMP is quite different from the other tablespaces.
    Given below is the brtools output of the tablespaces:

    PSAPTEMP alone has the last field as 0:0:0:0:0.
    1. Do we need to modify/alter the psaptemp tablespace to be normal?
    2. How do we assign the correct size of the PSAPTEMP tablespace to our environment?

  • My PSAPTEMP tablespace always show 100% Full or Used

    Dear All ,
    Using brtools my tablespace PSAPTEMP always show 100% full or Used, I extend 2 Gb size in PSAPTEMP tablespace but still no solution
    Please guide me why it always shows 100% used and what is the performance impact on that
    Regards
    Shahid

    Hello Shahid,
    > Please guide me why it always shows 100% used and what is the performance impact on that
    This is a normal behaviour in case of a temporary tablespace.
    If you do sorts, hash-joins, etc. which can not be done in memory-only you allocate extents in the temporary tablespace. If you finish your query, that temporary extents will be marked as free but they still kept allocated. So over the uptime of your database your temporary tablespace will be filled by allocated (but marked as free) extents .. and so you will see it as "full". You can also check the current "real" usage of your temporary tablespace by the view V$TEMPSEG_USAGE:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/dynviews_2164.htm#i1421319
    The temporary extents will be deallocated by a database shutdown or by a database start, if the database crashed before.
    If you don't get any ORA-01652 by your query .. everything is fine.
    Regards
    Stefan

    Hi Craig,
    Deactivating the alert could be the latest solution, but you should first check how the tempfiles are setup. If they are set as sparse files they might not use all the allocated space at FS level, but might grow up to it and cause an overflow...
    To deactivate that behavior you should copy temp files with a specific cp option (--sparse=never) to deactivate the sparse attribute as explained in the here under notes (the 2nd one is for 11g only thus not valid for you).
    Regards
    548221 - Temporary Files are created as sparse files
    Oracle creates files of temporary tablespaces as sparse files.
    'Sparse' is a special property a file in Unix operating systems can have. Sparse files are files that can dynamically grow and shrink depending on their content. So many sparse files can use a common pool of free disk space. Also the creation of a sparse file is much faster than creation of a normal file.
    Problems can occur if sparse files on the same disk grow in parallel and there is not sufficient free disk space for all to extend.
    Usage of sparse files is not a bug. Therefore there is no possibility to tell Oracle not to use sparse files for the temporary tablespace if the operating system offers sparse file functionality.
    1864212 - Forcing complete space allocation for temp files
    By default, temp files are not initialized when the file is created and therefore the disk space is not pre-allocated in the file system.

  • Calculate PSAPTEMP size before creating aggregate?

    Hi Experts,
    While i am creating aggregate job is ended with error.
    SQL Error: 12801
    I checked in SM21 and meaning of error is "Overflow of database objects " so while creating aggregate PSAPTEMP become overflow.
    My question is how much exact size it requires while creating aggregate, now we our PSAPTEMP table space size is 10 GB.
    How to calculate the required size to increase PSAPTEMP tablespace?
    Thanks &&& Regrs,
    KD.

    hi,
    PSAPTEMP is primarily used  temporarily to store results of the aggregation and final data is typically stored in a user tablespace. So if your PSAPTEMP tablespace is too small you can only increase its size.
    i think that will solve your purpose
    Also, there can be a scenario when are unable to do the same, so you need to rearrange your aggregates.
    In that case the aggregates will be activated. First the aggregates with more data  and then with less data
    generally PSAPTEMP tablespace should be at least twice as large as the largest index.
    please refer SAP Note 659946 and 600513 for more details
    regards
    laksh.

  • How to move client from one server to other at remote location

    Dear All,
    We have two servers located in two different locations.Due to some network issues i am unable to do the remote client copy .
    Please suggest how do i take client 100 to other server which is at different location and on different platform.
    Source system is HP Unix Target system is on windows2003, database is oracle on both servers.
    Regards,
    Najeeb ..

    Dear Shark,
    Please check whether you have set archive logs.
    If you have set then please disable, it since it will increase size of /oracle/SID/oraarch.
    then you need to take achive backup. so all the above please ensure that no archive logs are generated.
    also check the size of PSAPUNDO and PSAPTEMP tablespace and if possible make its size large.
    Have you enabled Automated Undo managemant. if your database is oracle9 then you need to manually provide AUM or else it is automatic in higher oracle DB.
    Check the logs of Client copy using scc3.. all the best for all.

    Listener is working fine, Checked the RFC connections, Tried restarting the system, tried adding space to the TEMP tablespace as well as PSAPBWP, but they didn't work.
    Please help.

    The problem got solved as there were DB errors like ORA-01114: IO error writing block to file 256 (block # 126218).
    Here the point to be notes is file 256. The number greater than 255 indicates a temp datafile. This indicates an issue with PSAPTEMP tablespace. When checked on PSAPTEMP tablespace, one of the filesystems where one temp data file sitting was full. The filesystem was 100% full. This will prevent the temp datafile to grow and shrink as and when required.
    So, adding more space to the filesystem solved the problem.
    Thanks to everyone who have shown interest in solving my problem.

    Hello Anthony,
    even maybe not on Windows (I faced this on Unix), proceed with invalid objects as in : Note 1453935 - Invalid DataPump objects after Windows patch collection > 25
    this is the leftover of some previous 10g patching. Once objects are recreated, recompilation will go ok.

  • Oracle Upgrade --  Pre-Upgrade 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.1

    Hello,
    I want to do an Oracle Upgrade to version 11.2g!
    At this point I did some things (in Windows Server 2003 X64):
    1-) Install Oracle 10.2.0.1 (DVD Media);
    2-) Installation of Oracle patchset 10.2.0.4 (note 871735);
    3-) Installation of interim / last generics patch (note 1137346);
    4-) Installation of SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 by SAPInst
    5-) After SAP installation I did all the corrections in Oracle parameters as it mentioned in note 830576.
    As you see above, all the SAP system was well installed!
    But now I want to do the Oracle Upgrade process to the last version, Oracle DB 11.2g  (11.2.0.1)... and so I´m following the Upgrade guide "Upgrade to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) Windows.pdf" with some SAP notes for Upgrade process.
    So I´m at this point in planning chapter where is recommended to check so things in actual database, one of this checks are running some SQL-scripts to perform an Oracle database upgrade with DBUA to release 11.2 (as mentioned in note 1431793 - Oracle 11.2.0: Upgrade Scripts)
    I ran two Pre-Scripts, the @pre_upgrade_status.sql and @pre_upgrade_tasks.sql but both outputs showed some warnings and they are worrying me... so what I ask to you is some kind of help in analyse of them and tell me if this issues are relevant for the upgrading process and if so, what you recommend me to do to correct their!
    Next I will post here this two log scripts... they are long!!!

    EXECUTE dbms_stats.gather_dictionary_stats;
    Oracle recommends removing all hidden parameters prior to upgrading.
    To view existing hidden parameters execute the following command
    while connected AS SYSDBA:
    SELECT name,description from SYS.V$PARAMETER WHERE name

    Changes will need to be made in the init.ora or spfile.
    Oracle recommends reviewing any defined events prior to upgrading.
    To view existing non-default events execute the following commands
    while connected AS SYSDBA:
      Events:

  • Error at "spacechk_ini" phase with SQL ERROR 942: ORA-00942

    Dear support,
    I am posting this problem again in upgrade forum as i am still dont have proper answer.
    We are performing upgrade from 4.0B (4.0B Ext kernel level 996 , windows 2000 Oracle 9.2.0.5  ) to 4.7 Ext 2.00 SR1. I have upgraded my database from 8.1.7.4 to 9.2.0.5 as prerequisite for upgrade.
    While performing Initialization module we got below error
    " No DB freespace check possible code -4 "
    When i analyzed slog found below error
    Phase SPACECHK_INI:
    ERROR: Statement: SELECT "TABLESPACE_NAME", "BYTES"/1048576 FROM SYS."DBA_TEMP_FILES" WHERE "BYTES" >= 1048576
    ERROR: SQL ERROR 942: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    ERROR: Statement: SELECT "TABLESPACE_NAME", "BYTES"/1048576 FROM SYS."DBA_TEMP_FILES" WHERE "BYTES" >= 1048576
    ERROR: ERROR 256: invalid cursors id
    ERROR: SQL ERROR 942: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    have observed one more thing at my database ( which is now upgraded to 9.2.0.5 as prerequisite for upgrade to 4.7)
    select * from dba_temp_files;
    no rows selected.
    But when i run same querry to my another server which is 4.7 oracle 9.2.0.5 i get output as list of datafiles with PSAPTEMP tablespace.
    I think problem might be this fixed tables/view dba_temp_files is showing no rows as PSAPTEMP tablespace.Also we cannot add any value to this table as it is fixed tabel/view.
    How we can troubleshoot this?
    I would also like to inform in my 40 B database PSAPTEMP tablespace is dictionary managed after upgrade to 9.2.0.5 but
    In another server which is 4.7 9.2.0.5 , PSAPTEMP tablespace is locally managed
    May be this is the problem why my dba_temp_files showing nothing.
    Do i need to perform DMTS to LMTS for psaptemp tablespace.so that my dba_temp_files view will show me psaptemp tablespace under it?
    Can anybody suggess something on the same at earliest ?
    Best Regards,
    AjitR

    Markus ,
    Thanks for reply but i have performed database refresh of my DEV server long time back. Now as part of upgrade i have also performed Oracle upgrade from 8.1.7.4 to 9.2.0.6 . Now how can i bring data in dba_temp_files.
    Shouls i go for drop and recreate PSAPTEMP tablespace option.
    Please guide me in detail as i cannot restore backup from any other server to DEV because database already upgraded.
    Best Regards,

  • Client Copy  canceled

    Hi Guys,
    I scheduled a client copy job. A few minuites after the job started from SCC3 it shows client copy canceled. SM21, System Log displayed the following message:
    Database error 25153 at EXE
    I need to run the client copy.
    Please, what can I do to resolve this problem?
    Cheers,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
    Please check your PSAPTEMP tablespace status. Open BRTOOLS from SIDADM login or ORASID login and go by options.
    It will show you tablespace status. If you find its running out of space please add some space into it and re-execute the client copy.
    BRTOOLS --> 2.Space management --> then "continue" and it will give you option as "Show Tablespace".
    Hope this clarifies. Should you have any more query, please let us know in the forum.
