PSC 1315 parcel page print

My sister has an HP PSC 1315 connected to an older Dell.  She noticed a problem while doing online banking; she downloads and prints the statement which is in pdf format.  The banks logo will print but instead of printing the rest of the text it only prints 3 short dash lines.  Like there is a code that the printer is capturing and then ignoring the rest of the text.  We updated to Adobe reader 9, was 6 but same problem.  Went to another site and tried to print a pdf with graphics and had the same problem.  I converted the pdf to a word document and still have the same print problem  She went to Adobe elements and captured the first page from the pdf file and was able to print it as a jpg.  She sent me the page and my Epson was able to print both pdf and doc files.  Seems as long as there is just text, the printer does OK.  We updated the drivers but then the printer wouldn't print so had to download the original install disk from HP and uninstalled and then reinstalled.  Prints now but still have the same printing problem.  She is in Florida and I am in Texas so am having a hard time helping.  Do you have any ideas or suggestions?  Thanks,,,,,

seems like the hardware drivers for the printer are not installed. the best way to ensure this is done properly is to remove the USB cable(from the printer or the computer), insert the CD and select the 'Add A Device' option from the welcome screen. then connect the USB cable when prompted and it should install the drivers and you should be able to print.

  • Print to Shared Windows Printer (PSC 1315)

I'm a Windows tech with a problem on my spanking new Intel MacBook.
I have a PSC 1315 connected via USB to an XP desktop PC.
I can print to the 1315 from the desktop with no problem.
Other Windows based PCs on my home network can print to it via a generic SBC router, which is handling network traffic and Internet access.
I have downloaded the OSX drivers for the PSC 1315 from the HP website and successfully loaded them onto the MacBook.
The HP Assistant that pops up asks me to add the HP printer that's either connected via USB or via IP. I have to bypass that setup. You'll see why below.
On the Mac I can not only see the folders that are shared from the desktop PC, but I can ALSO see the shared 1315 printer from across my wireless network. I can access shared files from the desktop on my Macbook.
So far, so good, right? Not.
I can't print to the PSC 1315 across my wireless network. All jobs go into a 'completed' mode but the printer never sees them. The driver that loads when I make the PSC 1315 my default printer on the Mac is 'generic postscript'. The PSC is not a postscript printer. I have scrolled down the list of HP printer drivers that are listed and can't find the PSC series listed anywhere. The HP drivers that I downloaded from the HP website for this printer are apparently only good for directly connected or print server-based PSC series printers - NOT for printers available as shared from an XP computer. In addition, the driver I downloaded from the HP website doesn't add itself to the large list of HP drivers that appear to be native to the Mac OS.
It gets better. I have Parallels loaded on the MacBook, with a copy of XP. When I fire up XP I can print to the PSC 1315 across my wireless network with absolutely no problem. Just like all of my other PCs and notebooks.
Back to the Mac OS side. I've discovered that one can access some sort of printer admin program using 127.0.0.1:631/printers. This is a 'CUPS' interface (I have no idea what CUPS is). I have tried to use this interface to further configure the PSC 1315 printer that shows up on that page, but to no avail.
I can only assume that the PSC 1300 series set of printers is just not designed to be accessible from a MacBook across a wireless network.
If anyone can dispute that I would love to hear about it. Until then, the only way I can print is if I fire up XP using Parallels when I want to print wirelessly.
Intel MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

For what it's worth, let me provide you some background and other ideas. As a Windows tech, you should be able to understand more why things might be failing with some basic background and other ideas.
I've discovered that one can access some sort of printer admin program using 127.0.0.1:631/printers. This is a 'CUPS' interface (I have no idea what CUPS is).
CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) is the printing system used in Mac OS X. It runs its own server which can be accessed on your localhost at <http://127.0.0.1:631>. Apple has made additions to the CUPS software as distributed by cups.org, so the web interface does not provide access to all the extras Apple has added.
CUPS is uses "front end" drivers and/or filters. The data to be printed is manipulated into a form that the particular printer can understand. This information is then handed off to the "backend" which handles the communication between the computer and the printer.
The HP drivers that I downloaded from the HP website for this printer are apparently only good for directly connected or print server-based PSC series printers - NOT for printers available as shared from an XP computer.
As you have found out the drivers HP supplies are limited and will only work when the printer is connected in certain ways. This is a limitation set by HP, not the Mac OS or the CUPS printing system. For whatever reason, the major printer manufacturers have essentially bypassed CUPS. They use just enough of it to direct the print job back to their own proprietary software. No real "frontends" and certainly none of the CUPS "backends" are used.
In order to print to a printer connected to a Windows computer, we must therefore turn to drivers that integrate with CUPS and can use the "smb" or samba backend that Apple provides. The hpijs and the Gutenprint (Gimp-Print) drivers fulfill this role.
At present there is not a specific PPD for the HP PSC 1315 in either package. That is most likely why the Generic PostScript PPD was assigned. The OS tries to match the manufacturer and printer model that the printer relays to the OS with a PPD that is exactly the same. When this fails, the system falls back to whatever default is specified in the software.
Does that mean that the PSC will absolutely not work? No. HP shows that the PSC 1315 is part of the 1300 series. A 1300 series PPD does exist within the hpijs driver set. It will show in the list of printers as "HP PSC 1300 Foomatic/hpijs". You can manually select this as your PPD.
I removed the driver (HP) anyway and downloaded the HPIJS set.
This is good. Did you also remove any HP files from the /Library/Printers/PPD Plugins directory? Please do if you have not already done so. You will have to kill off a number of processes before you are fully rid of these plug-ins. Perhaps the easiest way is to just restart the computer after you trash the PPD Plugins. It is important to be sure these are disabled. Just having the HP supplied drivers installed will most likely "tie up" the printer and make it unavailable to any other driver set. The PSC is an all-in-one machine. The HP software ties up the continuously looking for the command to start scanning.
Windows already is sharing the printer. I'm trying to connect to it over my wifi network.
I think Apple just doesn't support the PSC1315 that way.
Apple, just like Windows, doesn't "support" any particular printer. Nor do they write the drivers for them. Greg is more of an expert at Windows printing from a Mac than most of us. He can correct me if I am wrong, but I think all the necessary elements should be available to make your combination work. Make sure you have gotten rid of all or disabled the HP supplied software and try manually selecting the "HP PSC 1300 Foomatic/hpijs" printer within the context of the Windows printer sharing article Greg cited.
    Hope this helps.

hi can anyone tell me if you can print directly on the dvd printable using the hp psc 1315.

The PSC 1315 does not print on DVD's directly.  You could print on a DVD label and apply that.

  • Psc 1315 Cartridge stalls after each page

I have a psc 1315 all-in-one printer that works perfectly to one exception. After finishing a page and before releasing it, the cartridge carriage starts making a clunking sound that makes the whole printer stagger. It then stops, lights up the "check paper" and "check print cartridge" lights, and an error box comes up saying "cartridge stalled". When I lower the print gate it releases the page and the "check paper" light comes off. When I lift the gate back up it makes some more clunking sounds and the "check print cartridge" light comes off. Then silence...  When I print a self test page this is what I get:

Can anyone with service knowledge help me? Or at least direct me to where I can procure a service manual for this particular model? I will be deeply grateful for any direction or advice.

HP says there is no way to turn the message off.  ( BAD HP!!)
However, since I want to only print in black, I may have found a workaround.
Win XP -- Control panel--Printers and Faxes -- Print Preferences -- Advanced -- Print in Greyscale -- select "Black ink only"
No message and the installed trial color cartridge still shows full after several days of printing.

  • PSC 1315 faded stripes when printing after a cold start

    Hello All,
I have an HP PSC 1315 that is about three years old and was working fine until it recently started printing with faded greyish or white stripes across the page in grayscale printouts. This only happens immediately after a cold start, that is, after not using the printer for about a day.
I've found two temporary ways to deal with the problem. First I can just let it keep printing. By the second or third page, the quality is OK. Second, I can prime the cartridge head by running it across a warm moist paper towel before I print. Neither of these works as a permanent solution, though.
I store the printer in a climate controlled room. The temperature in the room sometimes falls to 62 nowadays but when the problem started occuring the room was the 75-80 range. The humidity in the room is about 50%. I don't think the temperature of the room is causing the cartridge head to dry out, but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to solve this problem permanently? Thanks.

  • Printing problem psc 1315s, windows XP pro

I'm using the printer psc 1315s an a HP Notebook 6730b with Windows XP pro. I lost the driver CD of the printer and the hotline told me half a year ago to use the driver of the psc 1610 so I can use all printer featers. That works but
Word has problems in printing documents with textboxes and documents in oblong format. The printer starts printing but stops after a few lines and pulls the page out. The error message just says "the document could not be printing", and in the waitingline is no document.
Unfortunaltell the driver is out of the telefone hotline so I hope someone knows what I have to change at the driver to get back to full function.
Thanks in advance and sorry for the bad english.

Looking at the error message, it seems that you don't have permission to access a printer service in the \Private folder.
Check your settings in Parallel's preferences, or maybe backup / copy out your data and delete + recreate the Parallels installation.
Have you checked the physical connections? I know it's a stupid question, but that has solved a number of problems for other people.

  • Can't Print/Connect from Windows 7 to Shared PSC 1315 on XP Machine

I have an HP PSC 1315 connected to a Windows XP (32 bit) machine.  This printer is shared.  I can access it from other XP machines on my home network.  I cannot access it from my Windows 7 (64 bit) machine.  I can see the printer is shared on the machine, but when I double click on it, I get the following error:
"Windows can't find a driver for hp spc 1310 series on the network.  To locate one manually, click OK.  Otherwise, click Cancel and consult your network administrator or the printer manufacturer's website."
So I tried downloading the Windows 7 (64 bit) driver from HP and installed it on my Windows 7 machine:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=al-75052-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ca&...
At the end of the install, it asks to connect the printer to the computer through USB.  Since I'm not physically connecting the printer to the Windows 7 machine, I check the box that says I can't connect to it right now and proceed to finish.
I then tried to connect to the printer and I get the same error.  I try locating a driver manually.  I point to c:\windows\inf\ with no success (I'm *assuming* the driver info would get installed there, though I don't know what the .inf name is).  Windows says it can't find a suitable driver.  Possibly I should be looking for it elsewhere?
I found some troubleshooting utility on HP's website, but it doesn't give "shared printer over a network" as one of the connection schemes to troubleshoot.
I'm kinda stumped on this one.  Hoping it's going to be something simple I missed.

Here is a nice explanation of how to share a printer from an XP PC to a Windows 7 PC on a home network.  This should work since the Windows 7 (64-bit) PC can see the Windows XP 32-bit partition.  What you missed was the type of port to use for the networking connection.

    Can't Print/Connect from Windows 7 64 bit to Shared PSC 1315 on Windows 7 32bit Machine...

More than likely, you are receiving the access denied error because there may not be a HomeGroup in place.
To handle networks securely with Windows 7, Microsoft took a different approach.  A HomeGroup essentially creates a trust among all the devices in that home group.  If a device is not in that homegroup, then that system will essentially be denied access.

  • HP PSC 1315, Brother HL-2040 & D-Link DPG321 wireless print server

Hi all...I've had the D-Link wireless print server for awhile, and originally had an ancient Samsung attached to it.
Now though, the old Samsung printer is gone and I'm using the print server in my office with my new Brother HL-2040, which connected to my Mac effortlessly...super easy.
The problem comes in hooking up my HP PSC 1315 AIO to the wireless print server's second port. I've read a ton of postings in the last couple of days indicating the HP driver won't support this, so I downloaded the hpijs driver.
The Brother printer is hooked up to queue 1 (ps-5c714d-u1) per our documentation, and I'm trying to get the HP hooked up to queue 2 (ps-5c714d-u2), but absolutely nothing will print to it. One note - I'm not getting any error messages. When I pull up the printer to view the jobs, it looks like it's completed printing, so I'm not sure if it's stuck somewhere in the print server or what.
The HP works fine when connected directly via USB to my MacBook Pro - so the issue isn't with the printer itself or the cabling.
We CAN however, manage to print to the HP from our Windows XP desktop in the other room, interestingly enough.
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)

No, I didn't. Originally when I was doing all my research, I thought I only had to download that if I had Mac OS 10.2 or below...in retrospect now I'm not sure why I thought that.
I've now downloaded the file though, and have no idea what to do with it. In reading all of the installation info, I'm thinking it might just be easier to walk over to the printer and plug it into the USB port of my MacBook when I need to use it!
Thanks for the suggestion...not sure I have the constitution to keep fighting the good fight on this.

    Welcome to the HP Community!
I hope to help you with the scanning concern you have today.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to scan using HP software with your PSC 1315 (older model), on Mavericks (newer OS X), as there is no Full Feature driver (includes scanning software) available.
However, you do have some other options to scan. See this link for your options. Scroll down when the guide loads and select "How do I scan with the driver from Apple Software Update?"

  • Sudden Print Cartridge Error For PSC 1315 Unsolvable!

I've had no problems with my PSC 1315 until about a week ago.  I went to print something as I would usually and the "CheckPrint Cartridge" light starts flashing red and the "E" next to "Copies" comes on.  I have done every troubleshooting techniqueon the HP site and in the help files, even cleaning the cartridges, to no avail.  The black cartridge is only a few weeks old andwas fine til that day.  I have no clue what could have changed.  I really need my printer.  Can someone please help?

    Hi,
I didn't see the exact error blinking light situation in this document, but it contains most of the blinking light scenarios.  You might look at the "Check Print Cartridge light is blinking" about half way down  in the document link below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01578337&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=374568#chec...
If those don't work, you might try leaving the printer in turned on status, then unplug from the power source (back of printer or wall), wait 60 seconds, plug the power back in (if printer doesn't turn on automatically, press power button to turn on).  This does a total reset of the printer and will cycle through the reset process.

  • Our lap top lost power as it was printing from our hp psc 1315 and will not print now

The printer was in the middle of printing and the lap top lost power. When I repowered it the print spit out and now the printer will not print.  The print sits in the  que but does not finish. Help - thanks

    Hello @dbrown68,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that since losing power on your laptop in the middle on a print job your HP PSC 1315 All-in-One Printer will not print from your Windows XP computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue.
To start can I please have you click here to download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool. This Tool will run on your computer and 'fix printing' issues for you. Should any driver, software or connection conflicts be found than the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool will attempt to resolve the conflicts for you. There is the likelihood that when the computer shut down during the in progress print that print job became corrupted in the Print Spooler of the computer. The Print Spooler is the print system on your computer and controls all printing no matter the make or model of printer. The job can remain corrupted and stuck in the Print Spooler even after printing. Ideally, if any Print Spooler corruptions are found the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool will resolve those corruptions.
Please respond to this post with the result of running the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool. Good luck!
