PSE 13 - Widescreen

I'm considering purchasing PSE 13. I currently have PSE 7 which has Widescreen, the Send to TV option (Enhanced Widescreen), which gave me widescreen 16/9 Output. I had purchased PSE 9 which did not have widescreen out option. I want to make sure PSE 13 does have widescreen output?  thx

    Danke schonmal, Gruss Ralf.

    Hallo,

  • Widescreen monitor problem needs different solution

Earlier solutions offered for my problem did not work. I switched to a 19" widescreen. Now when I use PSE, the images are stretched (for example, when I go to Print, the screen shows what should look like a blank 8 1/2 x 11 sheet with my photo on it, but it actually looks like a square sheet, and if I put a foto on that sheet and it looks square, but then go back and turn it 90 degrees and put it on that sheet, it looks like a rectangle) It was suggested that I change the resolution via ControlPanel/Display/Settings. I changed the setting from 1024x768 to 1280x1024, but all that did was reduce the amount of screen surface being used. The other option offered is 800x600 but that was not much better.
    Ed

As Barbara said, the widescreen native resolutions are typically widths larger than 1280. But to be sure, look in your monitor's manual for its native resolution, of if you don't have the manual, look it up at the manufacturer's Web site. For example, a Dell 19" widescreen 1908WFP has a 1440 x 900 native resolution:

  • PSE 9 Slide Show error message

I get message "The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compressor/decompressor installed Codec) when I try to add a song from Itunes library to a slideshow. What doies this mean? How do I fix it? I tried in on my Dell and Toshoba laptops. Same thing happened. Thanks.

Whats wrong with this PSE process - anyone know?
more information may help analyze your problem
1 -- What are the pixel dimension of the photo files that are used in this slide show ?
2 -- Did you add Pan or zoom when making the PSE slide show ?
3 -- When you say you exported to Premiere Elements,
-- did you only make the DVD menus and burn the DVD disc in Premiere Elements ? OR
-- did you also Edit the video in Premiere Elements using its Timeline or Scenes functions ?
4 -- Are you creating the DVD as Widescreen (16:9) or as Full Screen (4:3 aspect ratio) ?
    General comments --
Since you are creating a DVD (which is standard definition with pixel dimensions of 720 x 480 for NTSC in USA or 720 x 576 for PAL)  inputing a high pixel resolution photo file to the slide show process can actually produce a lesser quality image in the DVD video in the final image. Generally recommended are using a photo editor for  downsizing the photofile resolution to approx 1000 x 750 for 4:3 aspect ratio before you start making the slide show.
If you respond that you did use pan or zoom and you respond that you worked with (edited) the slide show video in Premiere Elements,
-- then there is a Premiere Elements parameter of Scale to Framesize that may be a significant factor in why you see pixelation.
-- Also it will be good to check the Premiere Elements project setting
When playing a DVD on a high resolution screen (either HD TV or computer monitor) the effectiveness of the upscaling hardware or software doing the playback is a factor in the quality of image that you see. I don't suspect that this is your only problem, but it can be a factor.

  • PSE 9 Slide Show pixelated

I have created a slide show in PSE 9 with sharp JPEGs of @ 3MG each.
When viewing the photos in full screen, they are badly pixelated.
    Any ideas?   Thanks.

  • Best way to create slide shows in PE4 and PSE 6

What's the best way to create a fancy slide show in PE 4 and PSE 6? I need to create a slide show of about 600 pictures. I'm on Windows XP with 3gb RAM. I've done this a few years ago in earlier versions of PE and PSE. Before i plunge into this again i wanted to get some overall guidance for what to do or not do.
My ultimate goal is to create a slide show that:
    1. uses pan and zoom on every photo
    2. transitions between every photo
    3. has an audio track
    4. has some nice special effects -- words and graphics that appear on slide at precisely the right moment to match the song, and stay on the screen as one slide transitions to another. i want the text to be able to move and fade in and out.
My view is that it's easy to accomplish #1-3 in PSE 6; it's quite simple to create a slide show, add pan and zoom, and transitions. However, #4 is not doable because adding text and graphics can only be done on a slide at a time and only when the slide start/stops (i.e., you can't have text appear 2 secs after the slide has started displaying and stay on screen while the next slide appears). Need PE 4 to do that.
    What i'm wondering is:
-- is it best to create the basic slide show in PSE6 and then export to PE 4 to do the final fancy stuff, or is it best to just create the show in PE4? Seems that doing the pans, zooms, and transitions are easiest in PSE 6.

    eric,
I am going to offer some reasons NOT to start this slide show in Photoshop Elements. This is despite the fact that I have used the workflow of starting in Photoshop Elements and used the Send Slideshow to Premiere Elements in PSE5 - PE 3 and PSE7 - PE7.
1- Timing differences between the PSE and PE slide show construction and processing
There are many differences in timing between the two products. Transitions can start/end slightly offset from their timing in PSE once they arrive and are processed in PE. Same for pan and zoom. Does this matter? Well the more precise your timing, the more potential for a show stopper.
Example: one person who wanted continual motion using pan and zoom needed to go modify the transition positioning and the keyframing of the pan/zooms on every single slide after sending a slideshow from PSE to PRE.
    2- your requirement to
"words and graphics that appear on slide at precisely the right moment to match the song, and stay on the screen as one slide transitions to another. i want the text to be able to move and fade in and out."
You can't really sync the audio to a slide in PSE. The text can't move or fade in/out. I think that it will be more grief to retrofit these functions to a slide show that was created in PSE than it will be to do the all the work in Premiere Elements.
3- "Add the sound track for the ENTIRE slide show (this will be longer than i currently have slides for because i don't have all the photos"
I am suspicious that adding the ENTIRE sound track in one PSE slide show will not work.
I have done multiple sends from PSE slide show editor to Premiere Elements. However, I decided on the approach of using no audio in the PSE slideshow editor and adding Audio in Premiere Elements AFTER sending all the slide shows.
Again, your objective of syncing specific photos to music points is good artistically - but I am concerned that it will make your PSE to PRE workflow problematic.
4- "as new photos arrive, do the arrangement/pans/zooms in PSE and move them to PE"
As Steve mentioned when you do subsequent sends of the slideshow, it appends to the end - does not seem to fit your objective of replacing part of the middle.
Also if you get new photos in for the second section of the slideshow - but over in Premiere Elements you had already made other changes in the second section. There is no function to combine new changes doen in PSE and changes done in PE for that same "section" of the slideshow.
5- you did not say whether you will be outputting this slide show in Full Screen or Widescreen format. Will you be burning a DVD? If you will be doing widescreen output, additional problems with specifying pan/zoom in PSE have been identified on various forums because the PSE pan/zoom boxes are not widescreen aspect ratio.
    Conclusion:
Some of my comments here are definitely subjective - however, it is my overall conclusion that your objectives and work plan are not a good fit for the Photoshop Elements slide show editor to Premiere Elements workflow.
My perspective on the Photoshop Elements slide show editor is that it is designed to simple, quick and easy. Therefore it has limitations.

  • PSE 9 - What a trip!

Just a comment about downloading PSE 9. Let's see, I had to jump through at least 3 hoops (as it were) to get it downloaded: 1. download the zipped files, which took over 1/2 hour; 2. unzip the files, which took, oh, I don't know, 15 minutes; 3. install PSE 9, which must've taken another 15 minutes. I  think I've remembered all the steps, but I may have left one out. I don't remember; it's been so long since I began downloading the app. So far, except for Imagenomic's noise suppressor, I've not had any success in installing plug ins, such as Topaz Adjust 4 and OnOne's Genuine Fractals 6. So, I'll continue to use PSE 8 for awhile until the plug-in makers catch up with PSE 9. I must say, however, that it's similar enough to PSE 8 that it won't take long to adapt to it, plus it has a couple of new features I look forward to trying.

    Resthome,
Thanks a lot! That was it. The monitor was set at 1360x768. Changing it to 1600x900 did the trick. The advanced dialog is back.
I do believe the aspect ratio is also involved. Elements generally requires at least 1024x768 to run with a non-widescreen display. That is what I was using up to a couple of weeks ago. I bought a new WS display, and have been playing around with with different aspect ratios. I thought all I had to do was keep the vertical greater than 768.
As you pointed out, that is not the case.
    Thanks again.
BTW I inadvertently clicked on helpful and answer and not the correct answer button. Sorry. I do not see a way to correct that.
One other point, PSE 8 with the same monitor set at 1280x768 also shows the Advanced dialog. It looks like that the issue is with PSE 9.

  • PSE stretches display on 16:9 monitor

Using PSE 9 and just upgraded to a 16:9 (wide) monitor. PSE now stretches everyting, images included, to fit the wide screen. I there a way to set PSE so it does not do this, without just changing the resolution for all programs to emulate a smaller screen?

This is a good question that I am confused about as well.  I run PSE 9 on both an old CRT 4:3 aspect ratio monitor and a 16:9 widescreen on my laptop.  PSE displays correctly on both monitors, with no stretching of any of the window or photo images.  To my knowledge, I did nothing on either computer to make the image fit the screen with no stretching - it just seemed to happen automatically.
However, my daughter runs PSE9 on a Dell 16:9 monitor and all the photos are stretched.  I have not been able to find any way to get rid of the stretching on her machine.  I have tried diffferent screen resolutions, but none of them give a perfect, unstretched fit.
Any explanations?  Would really like to get my daughter's monitor to display with no stretching - hard to edit pictures with such distortion.

  • Widescreen difficulties

I have a HDD Camcorder (JVC) which records in Widescreen 720x576.  My problem is that PRE thinks the videos I add into it are in 4:3 but they aren't. And so the video is squashed, and there are the 2 vertical black stripes either side of the screen to fill in the space.  How do I tell PSE that the videos are in widescreen?

JVC MOD files are a strange breed and have a set of problems uniquely their own.
The easiest way to "unsquash" the video is to right-click on the clips (on the timeline or in the Project panel) and select Interpret Footage.
And I hope it goes without saying that you MUST have Premiere Elements set up for a widescreen hard drive camcorder project!

  • How do I make a DVD for widescreen televison?

I use PSE 8 slideshow, and add a few video clips, put it all together on a DVD using Windows DVD Maker, but notice that when played on a widescreen television, the pictures are stretched, so people appear to be fatter than they really are.  If played on a smaller television the DVD is good.
In Elements I use wmv. and DVD PAL (720 x 576) (I am from the UK).  Thanks for any advice.

Do some reading on PAR - Pixel Aspect Ratio
    I believe a standard 4:3 screen uses a PAR of .9 and 16:9 widescreen uses a PAR of 1.2 (or 1.3 ???)
Anyway... google and do some reading

  • Mini-DVI to Video adapter + Widescreen CRT Television problem...

The problem is that in the resolution list in Display-tab for the second display, which is PAL TV, have no resolutions for WIDESCREEN TV. Only resolutions are 640x480, 720x480, 720x576, 800x600 and 1024x768.
Is this a OS related or is there different adapters to iMac 24 and iMac 20? The adapter which I now have is lent from my friend and he have iMac 20.
How this even can be an issue to MAC, because this could be done easily on PC. I just got my first Mac and I love it but this kind of problems I even couldn't imagine.

My 27" flat screen TV added some 1220x720 selections to choose from. Go to the "NTSC/PAL" display perference panel and click the "Detect Displays."
From experence I have never been able to really use the TV as a true second display. Although it really does work quite well for showing DVD movie's, Home movie's, iPhoto slideshows, MS Word PowerPoint or anything FrontRow.
For quicker access to the Display Preferences check the "Show displays in menu bar" This places a display icon on the menu bar for one click access to resolution list and preferences for both displays.

  • PSE icons instead of the photo. I need to view photos at a glance. Please help me????

Please help, this is driving me crazy.  I have downloaded my free PSE #9, it came with my Leica Camera.  I cannot view at a glance any of my photos.  There is only an icon that reads, PSE.  To view any of my photos, I must click select and then preview.  This gets old, and I am doing 4 times the work. I am having to use the dates to guess where my photos might be.  I hate this!  My old Photo Shop #5 didn't do this.  When you went to my pictures, you could see every photo.
I have tried the right click and open as any program.  What ever program I choose, that is the icon that appears.  No photo. Still no good.
    Please help.
    Thanking anyone in advance,
    Leica

    Hi,
Are you using Windows Explorer to view the files?
If so, load Explorer, go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options.
Click on the View tab and make sure the first option (Always show icons, never thumbnails) is not checked.
Click on OK and see if that is any better.

  • Opening animated gif in PSE 8 for Mac

I am switching from PSE for PC to PSE 8 for Mac.
I have always been able to open animated gif as layers and work with them, then resave as an updated animated gif.
WIth PSE 8 for Mac, I get a pop up that the file is animated and can only see the top frame. Any ideas on how to open up all of the frames in layers?

Do I need to enable this process for my Mac? Maybe I'm missing a plug-in or update?
I have been opening these files from others, tweeking and resaving for almost 2 years in PSE. It definitely will not shuffle the individual panels on an animated gif into the layers box.
My tweeking usually involves adjusting frame speed. Is that what you mean by 'frame rate'?
    Thank you for your help.

  • "Program Error"  While trying to print in PSE 9

Download and installed updates to PSE 9.0, Now 9.03. While in PSE mode I can no longer print images to Epson Photo R2880 or HP J4680. I can print to both printers using HP Media Smart Photo application, but if I attempt to print from PS Elements I get the following "could not print (image title) because of program error". I have since uninstalled the upgrade to PSE 9.03, I have also  done a system restore all to no avail. I still can't print while in PSE. Any experience with this? Any resolution ? Help !!!

  • IPod Touch 2G No Longer Sees Photoshop Elements (PSE) Album Photos

    Hello Forum,
All was working fine. I would create an album in PSE 7 on Win XP, my iPod Touch would see the album and all the photos in that album, successful sync, and copies of the photos would be stored on my iPod Touch.
Then for data security and redundancy, I relocated my My Documents folder to a network RAID disk array. My Music and My Photos folders therefore also got relocated. After fixing some paths iTunes works fine, and PSE 7 also works fine. PSE 7 albums are completely intact and accessible from the network share.
BUT, when I go to sync my iPod Touch with PSE7, the iPod sees all the PSE album names in iTunes, but says that each album has exactly 0 photos. So now my iPod has no photos. Please help me fix this problem.
One other thing, if I point my iPod at a specific photo folder on the network share, and tell it to sync to this folder, the photos in the folder move to the iPod with no problems. But I don't want to have to create photo copies in new folders just to sync with the iPod; the PSE Album concept is perfect, if it would only work now!
    Thanks, Ken

I've had exactly the same issue with my iPhone 3GS and iTunes 10.4.  I reported it to Apple and was told it was likely an error that crept into 10.4 and to expect a fix in an upcoming release of iTunes.  I'm waiting for that to happen still...
