PSE 9 in windows 8

I just purchased a new Epson Perfection V700 scanner which included a DVD of Photoshop Elements 9. I understand that this version is unsupported by the windows 8 operating system on which I would like to install it..Is there a download available which would allow me to use this, or updated product on my HP Windows 8 computer? I have the elements s/n.

Microsoft advises that all versions of PSE except versions 1, 3, 5 & 6 will work with Windows 8.

Can't find anything in the knowledge base on this.
I am giving up on Windows. Its just too messy and ugly. One of the final changes will be migrating from MS Windows Vista and PSE 6 to a brand new Mac, using LEopard 10.5.2 and PSE for Mac 6.
I want to migrate my images from the Windows machine, as well as the metadata organizing information. Surely I am not the only one with this need. I know I can save the mages in a mutually readable file format, export, and have them on the Mac, but I have a great deal of metatdata and image organization in the Windows version of PSE 6.
Please tell me how to migrate the entirety of PSE for Windows to my new Mac.

Some related questions-- can Bridge CS3 search sub-folders? Could I filter for a Keyword at the top of a tree, and locate all files with that keyword in sub-folders?
While exporting files from PSA2 on a PC I am using Share / Email to attach my existing keywords. Can they be drag-and-drop added to a Hierarchy in the Keywords panel? (Either from the Filter panel where they are automatically listed and counted, or from the "Other" location in the Keywords panel where they appear italicized?)
I had deluded myself into believing that PSE6 for the Mac included Organizer. Would Lightroom be a logical option for organizing? Particularly if I want to catalog many images on CD without storing them on disk? Can it be purchased separately? What other options would you recommend?

After installing PSE 8 Windows 7 no longer generates mpg thumbnails

I recently noticed that Windows 7 was no longer producing thumbnails of .mpg files in Windows Explorer. Much troubleshooting produced no solution. Finally I un-installed PSE8, and immediately Windows was able to generate mpg thumbnails again.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a solution (besides un-installing PSE8)? By the way, I have PSE 7 installed and there is not effect on thumbnail generation in Windows Explorer.

Since posting my original message, I have deleted PRE8 and PSE8. I can't remember if PSE8 Organizer was able to make thumbnails for mpg files or not. I'm sorry that I can't answer your question more clearly. I did not want to leave PSE8 and PRE8 installed on my computer because of the problem I described above of how it affected Windows Explorer's ability to create mpg thumbnails. So, I have removed PRE8 and PSE8 from my computer.
After installing PRE8 and PSE8 have you found any problems with Windows Explorer creating mpg thumbnails?

Bad color in PSE working window

When I bring up an image to edit in PSE it's always dark and off toward the red or orange. But, when Iook at that same inage file with another inage viewing program, then the colors look alright. Can someone tell me how to fix this?
I have attatched a screen grab that contains a portion of an image in PSE and a portion in Windows Picture and Fax viewer. The color looks more normal in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
Any words of wisdom on this?

It's most likely that your color-rendering issue is caused by a defective color profile; Samsung is one of several display vendors that install bad profiles. Windows can sometimes balk at letting your remove the display profile, and it's easy to make a mistake following the instructions for removal.
I recommend not setting PSE to No Color Management -- this strips the color profile from your photos when you save them. The color profile (usually sRGB) tells programs and printers how to interpret the color numbers in a photo; but when you remove the profile, they have to make a guess as to how to interpret the colors, and they can guess wrong.
By default, most Windows programs and printers will use ("assume") sRGB for images that don't have a profile. So if you set PSE to No Color Management, you may never experience a problem with misinterpretation of colors in your photos. However, Mac OS 10 does not assume that images without a profile are sRGB -- so it's entirely likely that your edited images will display incorrectly on Macs.
Further, if someone sends you images tagged with the Adobe RGB profile, PSE set to No Color Management will very likely not display them properly. (With the advent of raw, it seems that fewer people are taking pics with their camera set to Adobe RGB, but there are still posts on the forum from people using Adobe RGB.)

Problems trying to restore catalog from PSE 7 windows to PSE 12 MAC, what to do? NO PC with windows available any longer

I have recently changed my damaged PC windows to a MAC. Adobe kindly changed my PSE platform, it means PSE 12 is installed in my MAC but when I tried to restore my last catalog which was made with PSE 7 in windows I receive a message saying there is not valid file in my external hard disk (my backup). I've reviewed the available technical support and know that recommendation is to first update the catalog in windows using PSE 12, nevertheless I have not any longer a PC and even if I could use one, I have not anymore PSE 12 for windows platform. Could somebody please help me to solve this issue.

A number of people have reported this error message and have had trouble troubleshooting. (PSE is notorious for uninformative error messages.) A couple of things to check:
- Make sure the file permissions on the external drive are set properly. In Windows Explorer, try creating a couple of test folders, and then use another program like Notepad to try creating some test files in those folders.
- What the external drive originally connected to an XP system and now connected to a Vista or Windows 7 system? That can create obscure permissions problems.
- Is the external drive formatted as as FAT32 or NTFS? In Windows Explorer, navigate to Computer, right-click the external drive, and select Properties.
Note that you can do a backup using a third-party utility or by copying all your picture folders with Windows Explorer. Make sure to also copy the catalog folder (do Help > System Info to find its location). Doing a restore from such a backup is quite feasible, though it may take a little extra time.

PSE 7 Windows 7, 1.5 TB disk, how to save the image

I got a new PC with a 1.5 TB hard disk, running Windows 7 and PSE 7. With the help of this Forum I managed (changing the scratch disk with ALT and CONTROL) to start and work with PSE 7.
However, now I am unable to save the image, again the error message is: Scatch disk full.
Any ideas how to solve the problem?

If you have a spare volume, allocate that as the scratch disk first, followed by the C drive as the second scratch disk.
Sometimes you run short of RAM if you have lots of open images. Try saving and closing as you work.

Transfering Catalogs fr PSE 4 Windows XP to PSE 10 Windows 7.

What is the easiest way to transfer Catalogs from PS Elements 4 on a Windows XP machine to PS Elements 10 on Windows 7 machine?
PSE 10 is loaded on new machine. Catalogs are backed up on portable HD. Photo files have also already been copied to new machine.
Do I need to install PS4 on the new machine as well before I move the Catalog filesw?

How to move tags from PSE 5 windows to PSE/bridge 6 for Mac

I have all my photos in PSE 5.0 windows. I bought a mac and PSE 6.0. how do I import the photos with the tags as keywords into the new version of the software on the mac?

You can't convert from the Organizer to Bridge.
Bridge is only a browser, you don't
"import" files into it, you just browse your files wherever they are in the Finder. Anything you move in the Finder, Bridge will see it immediately, and vice-versa. Bridge doesn't create libraries or albums.
Two very different, incompatible paradigms.

PSE 13 - Windows 8.1 - Maus ruckelt und hängt

heute habe ich PSE 13 auf meinen Windows 8.1 x64-Rechner installiert. Leider ruckelt die Maus und hängt, sobald man oben über die Menüleiste mit dem Mauszeiger streicht. Alle Aktionen funktionieren einwandfrei, sobald man aber das erste Mal das Menü berührt, beginnt die Ruckelei und ein Arbeiten ist nicht mehr möglich.
Ich arbeite seit Jahren mit PSE habe parallel noch die Version 11 am laufen - nie gab es bisher mit PSE Probleme. Hat jemand eine Lösung parat?

bei mir lag es wohl an einer Indizierung aller meine Fotos. Mir ist nach der Installation von PSE 13 aufgefallen, dass der Rechner massiv auf die Festplatte zugreift, da sie richtig laut wurde. Komischerweise liefen aber alle anderen Programme butterweich, nur PSE 13 war kaum zu bedienen. Nach 3 Stunden war plötzlich der massive Festplattenzugriff weg und seitdem läuft PSE butterweich. Ich nutze den Organizer von PSE nicht, habe ihn nicht einmal bisher gestartet, sondern springe gleich in den Bildbearbeitungsmodus.
Es hängt sehr wahrscheinlich also damit zusammen, dass der Organizer meine 1 TB große Bilddatenbank im Hintergrund indiziert hat. Wieso er das ohne meine Bestätigung machte, weiß ich nicht. Als ich kürzlich auf dem noch jungen Rechner PSE 11 installliert habe, passierte das nicht.
Jedenfalls läuft es nun so, wie gewünscht.
Den Adobe-Support habe ich übrigens während der Problemsuche auch kontaktiert; allerdings wurde kein Hinweis auf dieses Vorgehen von PSE 13 gegeben, sodass ich lange an falschen Stellen gesucht habe und Vieles deinstalliert und neuinstalliert habe, anstatt einfach 3 Stunden zu warten, bis sich PSE13 durch die Festplatte gerödelt hat.

FRUSTRATED!!: PSE 11 Windows hangs on loading Organizer

Yesterday I upgraded to PSE 11 on my (plenty powerful) Win 7 system.
Loaded organizer the 1st time and it completed the upgrade, did whatever it needed to do to update the catalog, and then recommended that I backup my catalog.
I agreed to back up the catalog and it got 1/2 way through backing up everything (to a 2nd local hard drive) when the backup threw and error and then hung.
I had to use Task Manager to close the application.
Now neither PSE 11 OR PSE 10 will open. They both hang while trying to load the Organizer. Thanks, Adobe. I am truly amazed at how sucky >1Gb of software can be.
This is MASSIVELY frustrating... instead of upgrading my photo library I have entirely lost access to it.
And, of course, Adobe provides no actual Tech Support.
So... anyone have a suggestion?
I'm guessing the catalog may have gotten corrupted - but I don't know whether that can be fixed non-destructively.
(Oh, and, yes, I tried the direct launch icon... it hangs both ways so it is definitely the Organizer application that is hanging).

Hold down your Shift key while launching the Organizer. This would open up the Catalog Manager. Highlight your catalog at the bottom of the window, and choose "Repair" and then "Optimize".
If that doesn't solve it, from the Catalog Manager, try creating a new catalog.
If Organizer still fails to launch, try following steps -
1.Delete the Organizer preferences. (Organizer preferences are located at %appdata%/Adobe/Elements Organizer/11.0/Organizer). Delete the "status.dat" and "psa.prf" file from this folder.
Navigate to folder on your machine where application is installed. Right click "PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe" and run it as Administrator.
Hope this would resolve your issue.

PSE from Windows to Mac?

I am purchasing PSE 11 for my Dell / Windows platform. I intend to buy a Mac next year. Can I transfer the programme without extra cost? Or would I be wiser to postpone my purchase until I have the Mac?

The Photoshop Elements license is multi-platform. The same serial number works on both Windows and/or Mac and you can install it on up to two computers at the same time.
So there's nothing stopping you installing it on both computers for no extra cost. You just need to download the Mac installer when you purchase your Mac.

PSE 7 - Windows 7 - HP Deskjet 9650 12X12 print issue

I recently got a new computer with Windows 7; installed my PSE 7 and installed my HP large format printer (
DJ9650) with the 9800 driver since 9650 wasn't compatible with Windows 7. I can print 8 1/2 X
11 or 8 X 8, but I cannot print 12X12, which is the main reason I use PSE 7 for 12X12 scrapbook pages. It spits out a blank page and then the print resume light keeps blinking. I have tried uninstalling the print driver, reinstalling, and no luck. Does anyone have a solution?

Are you kidding? HP says that 9650 isn't even supported under Vista. You need to get a printer that's supported.

PSE, multiple Windows users for same files - how do use the same profile?

I have collected all my digital media into a NAS unit, available on my LAN. All users have their own users on to the LAN, but I would like to share one "profile" for all when it comes to the PSE view of my pictures, so that we can all use the same tagging, importing by different users onto shared storage should be visible for all in Organizer etc.
I'm simply not understanding the project concept of PSE ("My Catalog") to make this happen myself - could some of you knowledgable people give me a hint on how to accomplish this?
I fail to believe I'm the only one with family pictures that several persons should be able to work with together.

Ps. I used to work in PSE7, have recently upgraded to PSE9. Have a WinXP / Win7 environment with multiple users and multiple computers, not domain-controlled.

I've done this years ago using PSE3-6, but had less than satisfactorily results.
I would not recommend it as your DB might get seriously compromised.
You could however, copy the whole Catalog-directory and -files to each local host and then update these files on a regular base from the "master" host on to the other "clients". You'll want the master host to be the only one allowed to make changes/updates/deletes to the DB.
The prerequisite is that the NAS-share will have the same driveletter/full path on each client, otherwise you'll have to reconnect thousands of missing files each time the path/driveletter changes.....
Maybe APE9 is less finicky and allows to do exactly what you (and me too....) want.
I'll try it in the near future when I'll have time to play with it more and let you know if you're still interested then. (can take months... )
