PSE7 Problem with cropping

Seems lately that when I try to crop a photo the first time after opening PSE7, it works fine.  But subsequent attempts will not let me specify a width and length.  When I click in those areas it's as if they are "grayed-out".  Menu items associated with cropping are also "grayed-out".  My only option is to exit PSE and then re-open.  It works fine for the first attempt but then the problem occurs again.  Any idea what may be causing this?  It just started doing this the past month or so - previously worked fine.  Thanks.
Denny Riffert

When this occurs, everything to do with cropping is greyed-out.  I am not able to change any options on cropping so I have to close PSE and re-open.  If it only happened infrequently, I wouldn't worry about it but it happens every thime I have PSE open and try to crop an image onte the sencond or thrid attempt.  Do you think that reinstalling PSE would fix this problem?  Thanks.

  • Strange problem with cropping a PDF

    Hello,
    I am having an issue with cropping PDFs. I have tried various versions of Acrobat as well as an application called Nitro PDF Professional.
    Here is the situation. I can crop the PDF without any problem but the file size remains just about the same as the original and if I use other software to convert the cropped PDF to JPG, the entire original, uncropped PDF page reappears in the JPG.
    I believe what I am experiencing is described at this link
    http://groups.google.com/group/alt.graphics.illustrator/browse_thread/thread/7660de2cf9888 9b1
    My question is, does anyone know a way to really crop a PDF, where the uncropped part of the page is really gone and not just "hidden"?
    Thanks in advance for all replies.

    I had mentioned Reduce File Size since I think that in earlier versions it was supposed to delete the cropped out area, though that may be my memory of a different application than AA. When I tried that with AA8.1.2, the crop could still be removed. The same happened with the PDF Optimizer. One sure way to remove the unwanted part is to print to a new PDF. However, you will lose any bookmarks and such.

  • Aperture 2.1.3 Export Problems with Cropped Photos

    I ran into an odd problem after updating to 2.1.3. I was trying to upload to a Picasa album via "aperture-picasa-plugin", which I had used before without problems. The resulting export had problems with two photos I had cropped from landscape to portrait size. The resulting exports had the entire uncropped/original content "squeezed" into a photo matching the cropped size, so the exported pics were squished making everything look tall and skinny. (I found it especially odd that stuff I had cropped out was back in, but the size was cropped.)
    I assumed it was a problem with the plugin, so I exported to a file straight from Aperture and had the same problem. I had other crops that worked OK, but they appear to all be landscape to landscape with no change in aspect ratio.
    Is anyone else having this problem?

    YES!
    I have seen this show up as well. I'm also using Aperture 2.1.3. I too thought it was the fault of the picasa plugin... but when I, like you, started doing my exports directly to files I noticed that they still had the same problem.
    The horizontal 16x9 seems to be particularly vulnerable... And, yes, it almost looks as if the (pre-crop) master has been "squished" into the aspect ratio of the (post-crop) version. It is very strange, very annoying, and very intermittent. Although, I found that if I quit aperture, restart then re-export... I have better luck.
    Boy, am I relieved to find somebody else who is having this problem. For a while there I thought I was going nuts.

  • Problems with Cropping Large Paper Sizes

    My System Info
    2008 Server
    Acrobat 9.4.0 Pro
    I'm creating PDF's to be plotted and the largest size of my document is 240" x 60".  When I try to crop the files (not all documents use full legnth) I get wierd results.  Acrobat will crop only one side of the document, usually the right hand side, when I attempt to crop the file again it choses another side to crop but loses the right hand side.
    Has anyone else come across this problem ?  Is there a limitation on the cropping page size ?  I have sucessfully cropped files with the paper size of 120 x 60.

    I'm using a HP plotter postscript driver to create the postscripts then converting them to pdf via distiller.  The PDF is displayed with a 240" paper size but the crop just won't crop it
    I read somewhere that Acrobat 7's limitations paper size if 200 x 200, is it the same for Acrobat 9

  • Problem with cropped PDF

    I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional for MAC (10.6.8).  After successfully cropping and saving a PDF, I have emailed the cropped PDF via Entourage.  I notice that part of the original PDF (that has already been cropped out) is still seen by the recipient.  Why is this occurring?  How can I solve this problem?

    It will be the receiver's software ignoring the crop box, but it may be just as well to alert you to the problem earlier rather than later.
    Removing sensitive information from a PDF is a crucial task for many, and there are lots of ways that DON'T do it. Crop pages, cover stuff up, turn text to white: all of these mistakes have been made, sometimes with fearful consequences. The correct process is called "redaction" and Acrobat Pro has built in tools for this.

  • Problem with cropped WPF content in an ElementHost

    I am displaying a WPF control inside an ElementHost. It works on most systems but on SOME the content gets cropped. Can anyone help me in the right direction with this?

    Thank you for your suggestions. As it turned out there are some rendering problems in some systems with WPF content hosted in WinForms. It can be solved by setting rendering mode to software only:
    public partial class App
    protected override void OnStartup(StartupEventArgs e)
    base.OnStartup(e);
    RenderOptions.ProcessRenderMode = RenderMode.SoftwareOnly;

  • New Problem with cropping in Photoshop Elements 8.0

    I use adobe photoshop elements 8 for years already and it has worked perfectly up until now. When I crop a picture instead of it cropping when I click on the check mark (as in the past) it reduces it to a small window with just gray in it....no reduced picture at all. Did a setting get thrown off or something? Help is appreciated!

    At the far left end of the options bar is a tiny triangle. Click it and choose Reset Tool from the popout menu.

  • Problems with cropping PDF in Automator.

    I'm trying to create a workflow for a photo booth contraption I plan to set up at an event. 3 photos taken in each session will then be placed by the *New PDF contact sheet* action.
    All is well here except that now I need to crop the PDF (which i'm only given the option of '8 1/2 x 11' or 'A4') to 4x6, which is the size of my photo paper. The default Crop Image action crops to the center and was not working for me because the images are up in the top of the page. So instead i'm using the *Propper Cropper* tool as it allows me to Crop to dims and set the XY of where the top left corner of crop is.
    *For some reason, it won't crop my PDF files. It will crop jpgs, gifs and pngs. I tried to render PDF page as image but that did not work either.*
    I'm really stuck here. it seems like a pretty simple action and yet I can't figure out whats wrong here. Any help is appreciated.
    http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Automator-Actions---Workflows/Automator-Propper-Cro pper.shtml

    I had this problem too. Since my PDFs could not be cropped, I ended up converting my PDF to a JPEG, and crop from there. I don't see how converting an image back to PDF would pose a problem in Automator.

  • PSE7 Problem with Organizer - Folder Location Display

    I keep encountering a wierd error and don't know why or how it is happening.  I like to use this view I file pictures on my hard this way and this matches those files and then I can tag, make an album, etc.  Sometimes the pictures that are in a file (on my hard drive) will for some reason (or after some event) not show up in the Folder Locations display with the same file name.  Make sense?   They will show in the file name below the folder they should be in and so on.  For example I have 400 pictures from a recent trip to Trinidad in a Trinidad 2009 folder on my hard drive.  When I had put these in to PSE7, they showed up in the catalog view in Trinidad 2009 because I made it a watch folder.  Now they show up in another folder, the one below it.  It is like every folder shifted down.  I understand they are still in the same location on my hard drive.  There seems to be some bug or error in PSE7 organizer.  Can anyone help with this?

    Folder Location view is quite buggy; see this FAQ:

  • Problems with cropping

    Why is my photoshop CS5 not allowing me to have 8 or more nodules (the dots on the frame line) to drag out in order to crop at any size?  I have only 4 nodules to drag out  the picture, in which if the picture is rectange it does not crop right, it will have extra (space) or area that still needs to be cropped. Please let me know how to correct this problem. Please explain in detail how to get all the nodules around the picture, so I can drag any one of them out. I need more than 4 nodules. Thank you.

    Why did you post this in the forum for Adobe Reader?

  • Problem with cropped picture

    I cropped a picture and saved it to my album.  When I put the picture into iMovie it doesn't show what I cropped.  It goes back to how it was before the crop.

    Not that I can see. It's well-known (apparently) that the new Samsung LCD TVs don't have very many options in this regard.
    The weird this is that, as I mentioned, I'm convinced that it was working perfectly (no border whatsoever) after I initially unticked Overscan as per your suggestion. A friend actually came round and set me up with a bunch of utilities and stuff like Growl, Quicksilver, iPulse and the like. I tried disabling everything that I can think of, but nothing seems to help.

  • Problems with cropping in Raw editor- Photoshop CS6. Help!

    When I use raw editor in Photoshop CS-6 and I wish to crop the image. When doing this the crop box is at a fixed aspect ratio. How to I change it so my crop box is unconstrained? Just make sure this is in raw editor not Photoshop. My photos were taken on an Olympus OM-D, and I’m running the 7.1 raw plug in.
    Any help will be much appreciated.

    Hello!
    Are you talking about Camera Raw 7.1?
    If you are, I found that when in the crop tool, and if I have the settings set to "Normal" that I can move and "draw" the handles in any shape that I want. Having "constrain to image" checked or unchecked doesn't seem to affect the crop proportions if you just want to draw your own unique crop shape.
    I hope this helps. Please post back with any questions,
    Janelle

  • Problems with Crop and TWAIN in CS5?

    I have not been using Photoshop lately other than keeping up with updates. When I started a project yesterday, I ran into two new issues.
    The Crop tool no longer works. I frame the area and when I double click to Crop, the entire image Crop's. This is the same in 64 bit or 32 bit. Apparently it started after one of the latest updates. I'm working around it by using a Mask to Crop but I'd like it to work right. Any idea's?
    Then I discover that in the 32 bit version, when I go to File > Import the link to my Epson Scanner is gone. I know it won't work in the 64 bit which is a real pain, but it did work in the 32 bit version, again until one of the latest updates. Since I did not use it for a while I'm not sure which update was the culprit. Any idea's? I'm doing thousands of scans and doing the scanning as a stand alone instead of directly into Photoshop adds a small amount of time to each one which adds up to a lot. I'm actually considering going back to an older version.
    I'd switch Scanners, but Epson is so much better and the software so much better, I'll go down kicking and screaming. Really sad about the TWAIN insanity going on for years. Sucks in fact.
    Windows 7 64 bit, CS5 fully updated. The Epson Scanner Software is the same as it was when it was still working. No issues other than the two I mention here.

    Thanks so much. First thing I checked. It has rectified itself. One of those mysteries I guess. It is working OK now. Hitting clear is a habit as I've made that error more than a few times
    As to the scanner, they have not updated since 2009. Great scanner but I may have to buy another. Tried another from work, but won't let me mask out multiple scans at once. With the size of scans of negatives, I truly need 64 bit. To many updates this year and to little money. I have to upgrade from the CS Suite to CS5 and I've only been doing PS. Like so many others these huge update costs from Adobe are strangling for small business. Sorry Adobe, but it is to high.

  • Problem with cropping

    I am having trouble cropping.  When ever I set the crop to where I want it, it changes.  Even when I repeat the process several times I still cannot get the crop to stay where I want it.
    Thanks

    Try this basic fix:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and do the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    Click to view full size
    3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
