PSE8 "Error occurred while writing the disk" during backup

Last night I tried doing a full backup of my PSE8 catalog to DVD-R disks using the PSE8 "backup to CD/DVD" feature.  The program told me I would need 17 disks, so I let it run.  It was burning the 13th disk when it produced an error stating "An error occurred while writing the disc.  Result 13, Command 42, Sense 5, asc 33, ascq 2".
I swapped out the supposedly bad disk for a new one and selected "Retry".  It burned for several minutes (what I believe to be the whole disk) before producing the exact same error again.  Not wanting to give up on 90 minutes of work, I kept retrying with new blank disks, and it failed on every one in the same way.  It would write what seemed like the entire disk and then the same error would appear.  This produced 6 coasters in a row before I gave up and cancelled the job (that's 18 disks and 2 1/2 hours of my time wasted).
I'm using a Samsung SH-S182M burner with the most current firmware (SB06), and LG DVD-R disks.  I've had no trouble with this burner in any other software.  My system has WinXP Pro SP3, 4GB RAM, RAID-0, and an AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 CPU.  No lack of hardware resources.
I seem to recall having the same kind of trouble with PSE5 a couple years ago, possibly using a different DVD burner at the time (on the same computer).  Since I normally do backups using 3rd-party software and an external hard drive, I only rarely use the PSE8 backup tool.  I'm not sure it has ever worked properly for me.
Does anybody know what this error means, and why it doesn't happen until well into the process?  And why it suddenly fails on every disk from that point on?

There doesn't seem any issue with disc drive or the DVD media. It could be because of any particular file which Organizer is unable to write. To confirm this, we need to check if the backup to hard disk works fine.

hello, i am operating on a model a1286 mbp mid 2009 laptop, with 4 gb ram 360 gb hdd,
    snow leapord updated to maverick,
    bootcamped w/ win 7 32-bit
i tried in mac os x maverick to use bootcamp assistant to partition my bootcamp 180 gb partition to be erased and then to start the install of 64-bit.
the partitioning was stuck at about 17 percent for an hour, so i quit the bootcamp assistant - ive seen on reddit this was a bad thing to do, but i did it anyway because i saw someone posted about being to reboot and do a hdd repair then reboot and try to partition again
now when i startup my rEfit program that shows me option of loading mac os x maverick or Bootcamp Legacy Os instead of bootcamp win 7 32-bit
when i tried partioning again its asking me to free up space for 28 gb in bootcamp assistant , i did that, inserted win 7 64-bit dvd install and hit continue dialogue button in bootcamp assistant
this is where i see i only have 145 gb used in mac os x with 18 gb free and in the windows side 14 gb
    status partitioning disk,
but then i get an error message saying the partition failed with errors
i googled and saw i had togo into single user mode by pressing cmd-s during boot and typing /sbin/fsck -fy
i got a msg saying this command function is not recognized. - along those lines
how do i reboot and start a repair of the disk?
also i did a repair file permisions in disk utility but forgot to put back the power cord, so the battery drained and i assume the repair file permissions didnt finish and the mbp just auto shutdowned
is there a command i could enter into the EFI shell? or single user mode? to repair the hdd partition in the mac os x maverick and the bootcamp legacy os side since the first time i tried erasing everything on the win 7 32-bit side bootcamp assistant got stuck at 17 percent partitioning then I voluntarily quit the program = now i cant partition bca gives me error of:
"Your disk could not be partitioned" "An error occurred while partitioning the disk"
    thanks in advance,

Is that the complete error message? Are you trying to partition the correct drive? It may be that you do not have enough contiguous free space on the drive for the partition.

  • An error occurred while partitioning the disk

    iMAC, brand new
    3 TB Fusion HD
Windows 7 install disc (Windows 8 - blech!)
I've tried using the minimum partition.
    I've tried divide equally.
I've rebooted and repaired disc (no errors).
I've read every thread in this discussion.
    Please help.
The message I get, every time while partitioning, is this:
Your disc could not be partitioned
An error occurred while partitioning the disk
Is the Fusion HD the issue? And if it is, why are we all told in the store, "Oh, you can use Windows! Bootcamp comes already installed!" when it is such an issue to install Windows?
I purchased the Fusion drive specifically to have that processing power to run Windows and Mac.
I'd stick to only Mac, but work software requires Windows

    Hi All,
I Have succumbed to this problem today in OSX Yosemite, I found it was FileVault being turned on was my problem, you can check this as follows:
    - Disk Utility
    - Click on Macintosh HD (The indented one)
    - In the Properties you will find Format : Encrypted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)  .
To repair is a simple case of switching off FileVault in System Preferences/Security and Privacy/FileVault(Tab). You will need to click the padlock to make changes, then you will be able to turn off File Vault.
I found this was paused and had no way to resume it so a fresh install of OSX was my friend and this time round I made sure FileVault wasn't turned on.

  • BootCamp Assistant Error : Your bootable USB drive could not be created. "An error occurred while formatting the disk."

I have a Windows 7 Ultimate .iso file saved onto a "Mac OS Extended (Journal)" formatted USB flash drive. I am trying to install it with BootCamp Assistant and I keep getting the error message : Your bootable USB drive could not be created. "An error occurred while formatting the disk."
I have previously installed Windows 7 on my Mac (and it worked flawlessly - same .iso file), but I uninstalled it because I didn't partition enough space on my hard drive. I have used several flash drive to try and install and none have worked.
Some help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I get an error message saying, "An error occurred while restoring the disk to a single partition." when I try to use Boot Camp Assistant to remove my Windows partition. Help?!

I'm trying to remove my Windows partition and delete Boot Camp altogether off my laptop. When I try to remove the partition, I get an error saying "An error occurred while restoring the disk to a single partition."
    Can someone please help?

Boot from another hard drive or DVD and repair with Disk Utility.

  • I get an error message saying, "An error occurred while restoring the disk to a single partition." when I try to use Boot Camp Assistant to remove my Windows partition.

i don't know how to do

There is a forum for Boot Camp. This is not the forum for the notebook users.
You should always always have backup that you can use to restore your system incase of a problem.
Try booting into Lion Recoverey or from your OS X DVD and choose Disk Utility from Utility menu and repair the disk; try to remove with DU instead of BCA.

  • Keep getting error occurred while formatting the disk using boot camp with usb

So I keep getting the above error when trying to use boot camp with a USB drive. I have tried with more than one flash drive, all formatted to FAT32, multiple isos, both ripped right from a windows 7 ultimate dvd and downloaded, and I have made sure the iso was unmounted. I have also tried all different combinations of checking the options in the boot camp assistant menu. Any ideas on how to get this to work?

I was mistakenly thinking of the Fat16 limit. That is my mistake.
When bootcamp assistant failed to create the USB from my iso disk (with no explanation), I decided to experiment a little with the dd and cp utilities. dd failed, and cp told me the install file was too big.
The install.wim on my iso is 4,351,019,025 bytes. So even if 4GB is the file size limit, it is too big. 4GB is 4,294,967,296 bytes if I recall.
If I am still right about the file size, smaller editions of windows 7 would be able to fit on the flash drive, or people can have an actual DVD with windows 7 and install from there.

  • 2 error msgs while synching to I-pod touch.  "An error occurred while writing to the device.  Also, I-pod cann be synced, required disk cannot be found.

Two error messages appear while trying to synch to I-pod touch.  "I-pod cannot be synced.  An error occurred while writing to the device."  Second msg:  I-pod cannot be synced, required disk cannot be found."

The latter error can usually be resolved by deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder.  See the following for its location.
iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder
For the former error, I would try again.  Then I would reset the iPod and try again.
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next I would restore the iPod.

  • "Error occurred while converting the file 'song name'. The required disk cannot be found"

Hi, I saw this issue in an archived discussion, and I just had the same problem, but figured out how to resolve it.
I think this error is a result of:
    A) downloading a new version of iTunes, and;
    B) storing my iTunes library on an external hard drive.
Because when the new version of iTunes was downloaded, I found that the destination folder for my iTunes music was no longer selected. Therefore, I was getting the error message: "Error occurred while converting the file 'song name'. The required disk cannot be found" when I tried to import CDs.
    To fix: go to:
    iTunes>Preferences>Advanced
and specify your destination folder for your music.
    Just wanted to share!

Thank you so much! I was in the same situation (iTunes library stored on external hard disk). Strangely, iTunes knew where my music was stored (i.e. if I clicked a song it would link to the library location and play with no problems). But in the "Advanced" settings, the location of my iTunes Library was blank. So I just pointed to the correct location and now everything is working OK! Thanks again.

  • Error occured while converting the file track #1 the required disk can't be found

I have old CDs, I have new CDs and I have a relatively new MacBook Pro (3 years old) running current software on 10.9.4 OSX Mavericks. My updates are good on my iTunes but it won't let me import ANY CDs that I OWN! Is this the new Apple and it's iTunes update?
Can we not legally put our CDs onto our phones or iPad/iPods any longer? Must I go garage sale-ing for a personal CD player? The code reads; "Error occured while converting the file track #1 the required disk can't be found". My cd drive is fine btw. It reads and shows on my desktop and will also play when I double click the CD icon and play the .aiff file.

I kind of have the suspicion if you were no longer allowed to put CDs on iPods it would be front page news, not something you alone would discover.  Anyway, there would probably be a clear message to that effect rather than a technical error message.   I would take the technical problem route first rather than suspect you have been targeted for persecution.
Have you restarted iTunes?  Have you tried restarting your computer?
Personally I prefer third party rippers such as XLD and Max and you could certainly try one of those to at least isolate the issue to iTunes.

An internal error occurred while writing imported graphics in this document. The file has been saved, but has lost some image data. Please report this error to Adobe Technical Support.
How do i fix this, there are no images in the document

We are running FM version 7.2b144 on MS Win xp Pro (32 bit), and I did not notice this until service pack 3 was installed. I believe I have found a work around to the situation and another contributing cause. If graphic files are placed directly in an anchored frame instead of importing by reference, the file somehow becomes misplaced. If you right click the graphic and open the Object Properties dialog box, and see the phrase "no referenced file" below Main Editor: Referenced File: in the lower left hand corner, this has happened. I found if I removed all graphics files without references and imported them by reference, the source file may then be properly saved. I am also using a program called CCleaner, which removes cookies, temp files, browsing history and the like from a system. If the program settings are chosen too aggressively, and the application runs when FM has a file open, this same error will occur, even if all files are referenced properly. I don't know if SP3 has some similar application which is now running in the background and causing this.
To summarize, if you want to retain SP3, I have eliminated this error by confirming the links to referenced graphics files and avoiding using 3rd party "cleaners" while FM is open.

  • An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running the application again

I Have erased the hard drive of my MBP in order to perform a clean reinstall of OS X Mavericks, according to these instructions.
When I tried to reinstall, my internet connection stopped (was broadcasting via another MBP and the cable from that one got disconnected), so I restarted the erased MBP to try again. Holding command+R, it booted in internet recovery (as the recovery partition was erased along with the rest of the hard drive), but could not connect over the broadcasted WiFi, so I created a bootable USB flash drive according to these instructions on the other MBP.
This installation went smooth without any hiccups, but due to an oversight I had to do it again the next day.
I took the same steps, with the same bootable drive (I did not create a new one the first time) but this time I couldn’t get through the prepare to install phase. At the end, where the “about a second remaining” message stays for about 20 minutes, I get the “An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running the application again” message. When I quit the installer (only option at that stage) and return to Disk Utility, the internal drive on which I tried to do the installation is not visible anymore.
I tried this (after a reboot every time) with a new bootable usb drive with the same download of the OS X Mavericks installer and with a new one, each ending with the same error. The installer was downloaded on an MBP on which Mavericks is also installed, with the same Apple ID. The App Store did not allow me to change Apple ID for the Mavericks download. Can this pose a problem? It did work the first time, though.
Note that this error occurs at a different stage than the one with the same message due to the wrong date (this discussion amongst others). I also checked the date in terminal and this appears to be correct, when I consider the timezone.
Here are a few lines from the installer log (omitted similar lines and lines that could contain personal information). The most important line is the last one, indicating the error.

That last line indicates the error that occurred. (The internal drive on which I try to install Mavericks is called “schijf”, it also already has been called Macintosh HD, with no effect. This time I tried another name during the reformat to see if and when the installer renames the disk. Does it do this, or should I call the disk “Macintosh HD” myself?)
By now I also got past the internet recovery issues, being able to get the progress bar under the spinning globe and the option to install Lion (not Mavericks, but I suppose that’s because the MBP shipped with Lion). When I choose this option, the installer first spends a few hours downloading additional components. This eventually took less time than first indicated, but still about 4-5 hours. After this, the installation of about 24 minutes starts, but this takes much longer than the indicated 24 minutes, each minute taking about 15 minutes. When it was less than a minute, the internet connection got disconnected (but I don’t suppose it still needed an internet connection at this stage, having downloaded all additional components) and now the “Less than a minute” message has been there the whole night (about 9,5 hours), the last 9 hours with a spinning beachball on the screen after I accidentally clicked somewhere on the screen (nowhere in particular, he shouldn’t do something because of the click. After unplugging the power adapter, the battery icon on the screen wasn’t updated, and the WiFi icon simply disappeared, instead of showing no bars like it should when there’s no connection).
Does Anyone know how I can fix the error, because I would prefer installing with a bootable drive. Is it worth it to continue waiting on the current, apparently stuck Lion installer to finish or should I force a reboot?
Can I try using the Recovery Disk assistant (OS X Recovery Disk Assistant v1.0) to create a recovery disk with the other MBP? I think not, as this might cause trouble with 2 different MBP's using the same license.
    Thanks in advance!

Since this thread seems to be gaining more speed than the other one i'm working on, i figured i'd add these images to help you all out detailing the exact problem.
I'm having the same issue and I wanted to provide some info specific to my mac, and some info in general to help with diganosis.
    First, my specs
Secondly, I am running an aftermarket 500 GB drive.
Third, not sure if this is realated, but this screen suggests the proress will take 3 minutes, then it abruptly umps to the restart phase after about 1.5 - 2.5 minutes.
And finally, here is the seeminly unavoidable error message.
Also, other things I've tried now are
installing it from the "show package contents area",
mounting said DMG and trying to install from there.
installing a package file called "upgradeos.pkg"
    no luck.
