PSE8 raw converter not opening.

When I open a raw file (CR2) PSE goes directly to the full edit menu without opening the raw converter. It used to work, then started doing this. I have been using PSE since version 3, so I know the advantages of the raw converter and want to use them.
Anybody have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Not intentionally, but I have been having some issues with several prog
rams not fitting the screen correctly since about the same time this issue started. Obviously you may be on to something.
Can you assist in correcting?

Raw file converter not opening automatically in Elements 12.

I have upgraded my Elements 9 to Elements 12. I used to be able to open a raw file directly into the raw editor in Elements 9. With Elements 12 I click to open the raw file with Elements 12 but Elements opens into the basic editor with no picture opening. I then have to select Open Camera Raw from the file menu and select the photo again. The photo then opens.
Is there a setting i can change so that elements 12 opens directly into the raw editor?

There is no so such thing as "Open Camera Raw". Look again; it's Open in Camera Raw, which is for jpegs and tiffs that you want to edit in the raw converter, not a way to open the raw converter itself.
So when you double click a raw file in the finder, what happens? And what camera are these files from?

I re-downloaded my Photoshop recently and Adobe Bridge no longer displays my Nikon NEF files and Camera Raw will not open them.

When you re-installed Photoshop, you also re-installed the version of Camera Raw which shipped with Photoshop - in other words you reverted to an older version of Camera Raw which does not support the D5100.

The D5100 was first supported in Camera Raw version 6.4.
In Photoshop, click Help > Updates to update Camera Raw.

Raw files not opening in Adobe CS4

I just did the update for photoshop CS4 after finding out that I could not open Raw files, but after the update I still can't open them. I own the Adobe Photoshop CS4, and a Nikon D3100 camera. Is there something I have to download in order to get my files to open? I noticed the Camera Raw update 6.3, but that's for CS5 and is not backwards compatible...

Well, my joke stands corrected by the Great Insider hisself.
The funny thing is that I think this particular support policy is good, yet here we find ourselves arguing. It would be rather nasty but for the DNG converter solution, which I DID mention, and which turns it around completely and makes Adobe the good guys.

Purchased new camera nikon d7100 and camera raw will not open any nef files, talked to tech support and they assured me an update would fix issue, did update and have same issue still

I have photoshop cs5 and after purchasing a nikon d7100, photoshop will not open any of the nef files like it did with my nikon d90, I contacted support and they assured me after update that issue would be resolved...still not resolved, any suggestions?

Please check this list to see which version of ACR supports the camera:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Then please check your version (Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw).
As you should see your version is not up to the task.
You can either buy a license for a more current version of Photoshop (CS6 is still available) or switch to the … Cloud License model or use the free DNG Converter.

I downloaded the new plugin but still won't open.

Nikon camera RAW will not open in PS CS3 on Win 8

I have photoshop CS3 extended ver 10 and Elements 6. I installed both on a new PC with windows 8. PS will not open my RAW files taken with my Nikon D40X although Elements will. PS opens tiff and jpeg. I went to Adobe updates and tried to install ACR 4.6 (Camera raw 8bi.) The Error message for bothe the opening RAW files and installing the update is, "Could not complete your request because it is not the right type of document." I uninstalled PS and Elements and reinstalled just PS. Same problems. I transfer the RAW files from my camera to computer by copying them through a card reader.

PS and PSE each have a different place to put the .8bi file, so manually do the updated according to the instructions for each product on this page:

Re-installing PS or PSE will revert the ACR plug-in for that software back to the oldest version that originally came with that version of software so you’ll need to update using the contents of the ZIP file, again.
You can do a Help / About Plug-in… / Camera Raw… in PSE and PS to see what version you have installed in each. Plug-ins are scanned at startup, so you’ll want to restart each product after doing the manual install.

I just installed PSE 11 from Adobe.com and my raw files do not open in camera raw?

Can you check that the latest plug-in is properly in stalled. On the Editor menu go to:
Help >> About Plug-in >> Camera Raw
You should see this screen. Press Esc to close.

CS4 Camera Raw Does Not Open With Lightroom 3

Hi everybody,
I have the following equipment:
iMac OSX 10.7 Lion
Photoshop CS4
Lightroom 3.6
Camera Raw 5.7
All SW has the latest Patch.
When I open a Canon CR2 out of PS, the Camera Raw plugin shows up and I can make my settings.
When I try to right-click from LR, the window does not open. The file is opened but no CR-plugin.
It used to work on my iMac with SnowLeopard.
Can anybody help me?

ACR should never visibly open going from LR to PS. This is by design.
Because your LR and CS/ACR are mismatched versions, LR will have to render to a TIF on the way into PS, so there’s no ACR involved. If you were using matched versions of LR and PS, either LR2/CS4 or LR3/CS5 (or now LR4/CS6) then ACR is called on the way into PS but without your seeing the user-interface. The adjustments available in LR3 are “newer” than the adjustments available in CS4/ACR5 so it doesn’t even make sense you’d want to see the sliders in ACR on the way into PS, because they’d be undoing or changing something LR had done unless you mean you want to adjust the intermediate TIF file using the older ACR sliders for some reason.

Canon 5D RAW files not opening in Photoshop CS3

I did a photoshoot at a friend's studio last week, using his Canon 5D as it was all set up with the lights etc etc.
He saved the files for me as RAW - *.CR2 - as I am used to using with my 450D. The only difference I can see is that his files are numbered like this:
_MG_1791.CR2
whereas mine would have an "I" at the front - like it would be:
IMG_1791.CR2
I cannot open his files in my Photoshop CS3 - I get the error "Cannot complete your request as it is not the right type of file" or similar. I have no problems opening my own CR2 files from my 450D.
I have searched this issue on the Adobe forums, as well as other photography forums, and they say to download the plugin update remove the old one and replace it with the new. I have tried following step-by-step, but I still can't get it to work.
If anyone has come across a similar problem, I would be greatful to hear what you did.

I am trying the DNG converter again, and it seems to be converting this time - maybe I didn't do it right last time... I hope that CS3 will be able to read the DNG files - will let you know how it goes shortly!

Raw files not opening again

I have Elements 7, use Windows 7 and recently changed my camera to Canon EOS 550D, [from 1000D] but now cannot open raw files.
I have downloaded the update 5.6 plug-in, which I believe is correct.
Where do I save the plug-in for it to become active - I do generally have a problem with plug-ins as not very techi - so clear instructions without abreviations would be brill.

I'm afraid you need the 5.7 version of camera raw, but the 5.7
or newer versions aren't compatiple with pse 7.
One solution is to use the Free dng converter and convert copies of your 550d
files to the dng format, which pse 7 should open in camera raw.

Canon 60D - RAW files not opening

I have recently taken pictures with a Canon 60D and i am unable to open the raw files in ACR.
I am running PS CS5 and have ACR 6.7.
I have read forums which say that the 60D require 6.2 and yet i am still unable to view the files.
Other applications as the Digital Photo Professional open them fine when i have downloaded the drivers for that camera.
Can any one help?

The raw file you posted is not corrupt; however, it is from a 650D which wasn’t supported in ACR 6.7. See screen capture, below.
Do you have a 60D file that doesn’t work that you can post?
You could convert the 650D raw files to DNGs to process them in CS5/ACR 6.7, or upgrade to CS6/ACR 8.1 for $200, or subscribe to the creative cloud single-app, or perhaps expierment with Lightroom, with the longest timeframe would be available with LR 5.2 RC that expires Sept 30.

Raw Photos Not Opening

Hi.
I am using an Apple Macbookpro, shooting with a Canon EOS Rebel T5i and trying to open RAW photo's in Photoshop CS5. I have tried various updates as per the suggestions in these topics, but no luck, same message from Photoshop saying:
"Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information."
Any suggestions on what to do?

The Rebel T5i was first supported in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 7.4

PSE 9 - RAW Files not opening

I have PSE 9. Just got a Canon 70d but PSE 9 wont open CR2 files to edit RAW images. Support pages states format supported is CS2, but i cant change the format of the cameras files, why has Adobe not supported the CR2 files for a Canon 70D

Every Canon camera has it's own version of CR2. The 70D requires Camera RAW 8.2 and for that you need PSE12. Your other options are:
Use the Canon camera supplied software to convert the files to TIF and open those in PSE9.
Use the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert your CR2 files to Adobe DNG RAW and open those in PSE9 = http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html#downloads.

Cannon CR2 raw files not opening in Preview.

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion, and now my Cannon CR2 files are no longer opeing in Preview or QuickLook.
Opeing in Preview causes Preview to open, and the crash, and clearing the Preview prefrence files did not help.
Looking at the file in QuickLook reports "An error has occured with the previe of this document," and just shows the defualt Preview icon.
Has anyone else come accross this? I have an Rebel XTi, which has been supported since about 10.5 or so, and is listed by Apple as a supported camera and format, and it worked all the way up until installing 10.8 this moring.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
