Publishing iweb site outside of web.mac

can i publish an iweb-created site somewhere besides my web.mac account? how? any advice appreciated.
pb g4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

What file do I need to transfer, and how do I get that first file to be named index.html?
Please read the rest of the note, especially the part coming after "What to Upload". It tells you exactly what to transfer: one file called index.html and one folder which will have the same name as your site has inside the iWeb app. Both of these are produced by iWeb when you publish to a folder. If you follow these instructions and use a real ftp program like Cyberduck, you should not have a problem. There is no need for you to name anything index yourself (and it is best not to do that), it is all done for you by iWeb.

Have published iweb site for five years with no problems and just opened a new site and get -
    404: Page not found
This error is generated when there was no web page with the name you specified at the web site.-
    Troubleshooting suggestions:
Ensure the page you are linking to exists in the correct folder.
Check your file name for case sensitivity . Index.htm is not the same as index.htm!
Temporarily disable any rewrite rules by renaming your .htaccess file if it exists
    is the problem with
    iweb or with hosting?
One Apple tech started to fix Iweb and had to end session and the next said problem with hosting at Network Solutions as it published
to local folder. NWS has checked sttting a few times-
Any help would be extremely appreciated as trying to fix this for about five weeks

It's a really bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - and I've asked the Hosts to remove it. (Even though I've now noticed you mis-spelled it! - anyway, never post your address in a forum.)
You have a site here: http://virginiagordon.com/www.virginiagordon.com/WELCOME.html
If that's not the page you are having trouble with, what is that page's URL?

  • Changes in iWEB '08 are NOT making it to my published iWeb site

Never had this issue with earlier versions. I run iWeb to make changes in pages that I have had up for months. iWeb says the changes are published. When I go here:
    http://web.mac.com/tyreeford/Site/Resume.html
    The changes are there.
When I use Safari and the link:
    http://web.mac.com/tyreeford/iWeb/Site/Resume.html
I get the old unchanged version.
I have been using iWeb the whole time. Why did the URL change!? I didn't change it.
    Thanks,
    Ty Ford

From '06 to '08 the way iWeb handles the publishing thus the url changed.
web.mac.com/username/sitename/pagename.html is the new '08 url
    http://web.mac.com/tyreeford/Site/Resume.html
you didn't change it, iWeb '08 changed it. Basically because the /iweb/ was useless and only made the url longer, looks much better now, don't you think so?

  • How to edit the same iWeb site on 2 different Macs?

How can I edit the same iWeb site on 2 different Macs? I know we create a folder with the files, but when copying that to Mac2, iWeb on Mac2 doesn't see that folder - I can't see what the linkage is between the app's interface and the folder of site files....

The answer is Domain.sites (extension hidden by default). You'll find this on the Mac you used to create the site at Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Copy that file to removable media and drag it to the same location on the other Mac. Launch iWeb and you'll see the site structure in the Site Organizer.
Once you keep the Domain package in sync between the two machines everything will work smoothly no matter which you use. There's a neat tip here which may help in this respect, but you use whatever strategy you prefer:

  • Published iWeb site the hyperlinks formatting

When I view my published iWeb site the hyperlinks do not all have the same formatting as they did in iWeb. How can I resolve this?

Hello, I am using iWeb 3.0.4 (601). I publish the website to my local machine (from iWeb) so I can send it off to someone more technical to publish to the internet and manage all of the 'optimisation' etc. This is where I am seeing it is not as it looks within iWeb. Can I 'send' it to you somehow? Thanks for your response.

  • Anyone know how to publish iWeb site to .mac groups?

    Hi all
This is my first message here... So... Be patient plz
I'm afraid that I know the answer, but I hope that someone can tell me(us) more...
Is it true that it is NOT possible to publish a site from iWeb to a .mac group?
    Why this feature is missing???
I've heard that this was present in iWeb 07. Is it true?
Anyone knows if it will be available in a future patch??
sigh, I've just buyed a .mac accounts to publish project for private groups... :(((
Thanks to all for support. Excuse me for my bad English
    Mayran

    It's Sad.
Groups are, in my opinion, the best feature of .mac account.
Project, club, private site of people... great things.
It's why I have payed for this account.
But if you can't use the integration of mac to build up information
it's very useless and to me it doesn't appear too professional
from apple to cut off this feature.
My fault, I haven't seen this particular information.
    Anyway thanks for the information
I hope apple will reintegrate this feature
    Greetings from Italy

  • Publishing iWeb site to .Mac personal domain

I set up Personal Domain on .Mac & added the cname on my account with Network Solutions & are waiting for the changes to take effect now. But I have 2 sites in iWeb. How do I get the right site on the personal domain.

    Hi again,
My Problem is that it is not clear how to redirect mlwhall.com --> www.mlwhall.com
Since CNAME is for aliases, I am not sure how to point mlwhall.com since that is the root name. The A (host) will only take an IP address, so I assume that if I am going to do this I need to do it in the CNAME section (pinging did not get me a useable IP address). I cannot believe I am the only person that wants to do this -- setting up domain forwarding does not seem to work either
Is it not common for people to want to have www.blah.com and blah.com to resolve to the same place?
    ----Martin----
And yes -- I meant to say that I made a CNAME alias for www that points to web.mac.com as pointed out in the personal domain instructions.

  • How do I create two iWeb sites using a single .Mac account?

I would like to create two distinct sites/URLs using iWeb and a single — not a family — .Mac account. Is this possible? If so, what are the basic steps?
When I read related forum posts, it would seem to me that one site would overwrite the other site when I publish. Yes or no?
    iBook 1.2 mhz, G4   Mac OS X (10.3.6)
    iBook 1.2 mhz, G4   Mac OS X (10.3.6)
    iBook 1.2 mhz, G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   iLife 06

I would like to create two distinct sites/URLs using
iWeb and a single — not a family — .Mac account. Is
this possible? If so, what are the basic steps?
If you just do the obvious and use File > New Site in iWeb, you do create two distinct sites with different urls. However, you cannot exactly duplicate page names in the sites or publish changes in one without publishing changes in the other. The short default url web.mac.com/username/iWeb normally goes to the top site on the list within iWeb.
If you create two sites with distinct names in different accounts on your machine, they should not overwrite each other, and they should also have distinct urls. However I think that the
index.html file which tells browsers what to do with the default short url web.mac.com/username/iWeb may get confused, so that deleting that or modifying it manually might be desirable.

  • How can I publish iWeb site in root directory in place of a prior site?

Hi there... I have created a family web site and published it to my .mac account. The problem is that I had previously published another site and that site remains in the 'root' directory of my account. Practically, this means that if anyone types in:
    web.mac.com/[username]
... they will get my old site instead of the site i wish them to see... Is there any way I can move my new site so that typing the more simplified 'root' address (above) will bring up the site I wish for them to view?

    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Do you have both sites in iWeb together? If so, then simply look in the Site Organizer, select the site that you want to come up by the short URL and drag it to the top of the organizer. iWeb will make whatever site is at the top of the Site Organizer the default site. You should probably do a "Publish ALL to .Mac" after doing this so that all the files are in the right place. So once you do this you can access the default site with the short URL http://web.mac.com/yourname and then you can access the second site by using its URL directly... http://web.mac.com/yourname/iWeb/sitetwoname You could also provide links from site one to site two and vice versa to "link" the two sites together.

  • Editing an iWeb site from a second Mac

I recently purchased ILife 06 and have begun switching my existing web sites on my .mac account to be on iWeb format but i have a few questions:
    1. I published the iWeb site with my iBook but I also want to populate and edit it with images from i Photo on my iMac - can I work with two Mac's???
    2. My slide show pictures are very small on iWeb slide show compared to what I get on the slide show on my now old Mac Web page.Comments???
Thanks in advance for the help.

A slick way to do it is to store the domain file on a usb flash drive (stick) and double click it from there. That way you can plug it into whatever computer running iweb you wish and update it.
Always remember to back that file up no matter what you do. If you lose it for any reason it can't be restored from the published files.
    good luck

  • Publishing iWeb site using MobileMe

I created a new website using iWeb, set up the CNAME alias, and published it using MobileMe. iWeb indicates the website has been published. When I go to the website, I get an error message:
    Directory Listing Denied
This virtual directory does not allow contents to be listed.
    Help!?

I followed the thread and performed the activities to test the site. I too was able to see the site. When I looked at the URL for the actual site, it still shows mac, not mobileme. Is this part of the problem?
    http://web.mac.com/ccgaler/TProcurementSolutions/Home.html
I'm using Netfirms for the domain name, it was all fine until I used the "Masking" feature. When I selected the "On" radio button, I lost all my graphics and the navigation bar on my site. Now I'm not sure if I have to start from scratch, or if that would make a difference.
    Thanks!

  • Can I publish a site to a non-.mac domain?

I am a real new mac user, less than a week. I just got a power mac G4. I bought iLife, and set up a web site. I have had my own domain for a few years now. I published my site to my .mac account, and pointed my domain to it. The domain is www.hanklambert.com. My question is can I also create sites for others who have their own domains (my mother) and publish it directly to her hosting domain? If so, where can I find out how to do that.
    Thanks in advance,

Yes, you can. But to keep things simple, I would suggest that you create multiple accounts on your computer to publish the different sites. That way you don't run into issues with two or more sites in the same Domain file, switching Domain files, etc.
Just create a new login account to your computer...say, for your Grandma's site. Open up iWeb there and you should see a blank slate. Once you have her site designed, just publish to her .Mac account or "publish to a folder" and you can FTP it to her webhost if she doesn't have .Mac.
The whole point is to keep your site separate from other sites that you might design. The easiest thing would be to have a different user account for each site if you are going to be administering these sites regularly.
