I am looking to buy the classic as a gift for christmas. Does the ipod have capability to plug a flash drive into it?

No, you can not plug a flash drive into an iPod and access it through the iPod if that is what you mean.

How big are these files and do you use Windows?
If you use your iPod as a disk with a Windows PC, bear in mind that the FAT32 file system can only accommodate files that are smaller than 4GB. No matter how much free space there is on your iPod, you can't copy files that are larger than that.
Also worth bearing in mind is that the iPod is not reliable enough to use it as a long term storage device, and these forums are littered with posts from people who decided to use it as such and ended up losing all their data.

Album artwork is not transerring to Ipod Classic

Hi,
I have a recently purchased Ipod Classic and prior to now, album artwork in Itunes was being copied to the Ipod when syncing. I do have the album artwork option activated. I downloaded all the artwork that was available and it shows in Itunes.
What's up with sudden inability to get the artwork to the Ipod? I'm concerned something happened to the Ipod, tho I can't imagine what. All the albums I'm trying to add artwork to on the Ipod, were added to my music library from CD's not purchased and previously I had no problem with this.

Yep that did it..except for the albums it wasn't able to get artwork for. The funny thing is, other albums that previously had artwork that were from albums synced from my laptop, lost their artwork in the cache rebuild. I'm hoping if I do something similar on the laptop, it'll restore the artwork without messing up the ones I just fixed on the desktop.

How long should an IPOD classic last.

Purchased Ipod classic dec 2007 80gb. It has now died son has used it most days to watch movies. We have now had to buy a new 160 gb one.

Ditto exactly what GLNHP stated above... I have a 80GB video still kicking around and working well daily for music and my original 160 Classic was just traded-up for a new 160 Classic to get the genius mixes.
None of which have ever experienced issue. However DO NOTE that classic does have a HDD so it can't be "thrown around" or dropped like a solid state memory player (such as the nano).
I've always used the classic devices in a secure and pretty much stationary role, it has never seen alot of movement such as exercise routines or the insides of school bags.
Additionally my old original ipod was working well until it was dropped and the case started to open, and that's when the video ipod was acquired in about 2005!

My question is - Using the electrical plug of iPhone 5 can we charge iPod classic ? I will use the same USB cable of iPod classic, Only the electrical plug I am going to use of iPhone 5 's.

Yes, you can use the iPhone 5 charger with the classic's charging cable to charge any older iPod or iPhone. An iPad would require the larger 10w charger.

IPod Classic 80-gig won't transfer purchases to iTunes Library, nor will it sync. Please help!

     My iPod Classic 80gb will not transfer purchases to my iTunes library. When I click the "Transfer Purchase" button, it says it's working, but then I get a pop-up which reads 'Attempting to copy the disk "OS" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69)', and following that pop-up is another pop-up, which reads 'The iPod "William's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-69).
     I need to transfer the purchases, because I had to restore my laptop (Which is a PC, by the way) to the original factory settings, and I had to re-download iTunes. When I re-downloaded it, I logged in and everything, but all my music was missing. I clicked the "Purchase History" button in the account part, and I clicked the "Download" button in order to regain my lost music, and I waited about 45 minutes or so, only to come back to iTunes saying it had finished, when it had only re-downloaded 75 of my 279 songs.
     After this, I went into the help section of iTunes. In that, I clicked "Manage your media files," and from there, I clicked on "Find iTunes files." So, I did what it told me to do, which was to run a full scan on my PC, and I looked everywhere I could think of, and everywhere iTunes suggested my missing music might be located, only to find that I wasted my time.
     I am a musician, I CRAVE the music I listen to, and I'm constantly finding new stuff to listen to and research, and if I can't transfer my purchases or sync my device to my library, then that means I can't get new music to listen to on the go, and for me, that is an extreme issue. Obviously, restoring my device is not an option, because I have nothing to sync it to to get my music back.
     Please, if anyone can help me with my situation, I'd be forever grateful.

Laptop- PC, Dell XPS15, has Windows 7, has an intel Core i5 processor, only about 2 and a half months old.
iPod- iPod Classic, 80-gigabytes, I've had it for, going on 5 and 1/4 years now, give or take a few months.

Install disk drive from old computer in an external enclosure.
Then copy the complete iTunes library from the disk drive to the disk drive in the new computer.

Itunes will not allow me to add newly purchased songs to my ipod classic, i have no problems with adding free podcasts but anything that i have purchasedd when i drag it over to ipod the little red circle with line through it stops me. what has gone wrong

You sync music the same way as on the Classic. What you sync to an iPod does not effect the iTunes library on your computer.

You can plug the iPod into the same iTunes library as your iPod Touch and sync whatever content you like to it. There is no limilt to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one iTunes library, account, or computer. How you sync one device will not affect the syncing preferences of the other.

How can I get films purchased from the iTunes store to work on my new iPod classic?

I have recently purchased a new iPod classic, everything works accept it will not play films. At first I thought it was a problem with the films I was trying to put on as they were from my computer; but after purchasing some films from iTunes it still keeps saying that they cannot be played on this device. Please help as I have spent money on films I otherwise cannot watch.
Any advice is welcome.

It sounds like you might be trying to sync HD videos to your iPod classic.
HD videos purchased from the iTunes Store are compatible with iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), Apple TV, and computers. You may need to download your purchased video from iTunes in the Cloud in a lower resolution for your device.
You'll want to check out the following article to resolve the issue, specifically the "Download previously purchased content in a lower resolution" section:

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer. As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you. I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
