Purpose of Prefix and Suffix in Logical Data Member?

Hi,
What is the purpose of the prefix and suffix fieldin a logical member?
For instance, I have the word "Off" entered in the On field and the word "On" entered in the Off field.
The  "Invert Logical Signal" is unchecked.  So is this the same as having the "Invert Logical Signal" checked if you enter the words Off and On as above?
Thx.

Hi Zog626;
The prefix and suffix tags perform NO functions on the data member. You could put in the words, "Yippy" and "Skippy" and nothing will happen.
Personally I use them to help remind me what the engineering units is for that particular vartiable. For example, I will put in GPM if it is Gallons Per Minute,
or °F if it is a farenheit temperature.

  • Is there any ways to make Mail app show prefix and suffix in the address field?

I apologize for any inconvenience that my poor English may cause.
I would like to ask if there is a way to make Maill app show prefix and suffix in the address field.
This is, in my culture, very important, especially for formal situations. When I call someone such as professors, bosses, I should put prefix after their names to show my respect. In Microsoft Outlook, there is a field called 'Display as'.
    http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/contacts/contact-address-book-options-settings/
Therefore, I can choose how the name will be shown in my messages. For example, Prof. Kim instead of Kim. However, as far as I know, there isn't such options in Mail app. Is there any way that I can modify the way of displaying names in the address field in Mail app?

As far as I can determine, that is only how you see the email address, not how it is sent.
You can set up Prefixes and Suffixes in Contacts using the Add Field submenu of the Card menu:
If you use the Edit Template... command, you can choose to always have the Prefix and Suffix show on new cards.
However, I don't think Mail uses anything but First, Last for addressing emails.
You can override the behavior by manually with:
Prefix First Last Suffix <[email protected]>

  • Why Street prefix and suffix are not provided in ship to address?

    Hi Experts,
Anyone have any idea why SAP provided Street prefix and Suffix fields in "BBPADDRINTC (Edit Internal Address)" screen but not in Ship to address screen of shopping cart.
Is there any OSS note which can include these fields into ship to address screen. Please advise.
    Regards,
    Kamal

    Hello Kamal,
Even though the fields Street Prefix / Sufix are available in the address maintenance screen (BBPADDRINTC), they are not available in the procurement documents, like Purchase Orders or Shopping Carts.
The fields STR_SUPPL1 (prefix) and STR_SUPPL3 (suffix) are not implemented in such screens.
According SAP developers, it is not possible to provide a note to change this behavior at this time, since it is part of the design and, making a change, would require changing all other documents and versions.
    Kind regards,

Apple Contacts has a terrible system that adds "Mr" or "Ms" in front of every name in my contacts and sometimes a suffix.  This is a truly bad feature.  There must be some way to eliminate these fields from Contacts.  How can the prefix and suffix fields be eliminated from Contacts?

  • Prefix and suffix sync?

Hi, Can you select what fields sync or what field show up on iphone?
I am referring to the Prefix (mr , mrs etc) and suffix (II or the III'rd) field.
I use these in address book for printing labels ,however they dont sync or showup on my Palm treo.
I dont actually want them on my phone, and i wanted to know if this is a field that shows up on the iphone.

Yes it shows up on the iPhone, every field from the Address Book will sync to the iPhone(at least I did not find one yet that doesn't) and you cannot sync just selective fields

  • 2 Form Fields, Same Data Except a Prefix and Suffix

I have a 2 form fields. User will enter information (purchase order number) into Field 1. Field 2 will be a barcode font that requires the same digits, except with a starting asterisk and ending asterisk. These asterisks can not appear in Field 1. The number of digits that will appear in both fields will vary in length from 6 to 18 digits.
    Example: Field 1: 123456 > Field 2: *123456*
Is there a way to have Field 2 auto fill with information from Field 1 and add the asterisks?

You can set up a custom calculate script for the second field that's something like:
// Get the value of the first field
    var v = getField("Field 1").valueAsString;
// Add leading/trailing asterisks if not blank
    event.value = v ? "*" + v + "*" : "";
Replace "Field 1" with the actual name of the field.

  • How do I get a prefix and suffix to print on an address label?

The "Mr and Mrs" shows up on addresses. When the prefix is "The" and the suffix is "Family" they don't appear on the label.  Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm having perhaps the same problem with the Prefix field. It only prints when something is entered in the First (name) field, so
    Fam. [First empty] De Loore-Castelyn
    prints as De Loore-Castelyn
    Whereas
    Fam. J. De Loore-Castelyn
prints as Fam. J. De Loore-Castelyn
Annoying when the standard in Belgium is Fam. De Loore-Castelyn

  • Modbus Logical Data Member Status Not Logging

I am using several Modbus objects and have setup aliases for all of the Native Members that are being used.  For each alias, I checked the "Log to historical database" box.  None of the members/aliases that have not been setup as Alarm Conditions (i.e. checking "Generate logical alarm" box) seem to be logging to the database.  When I print Alarms and Events ot Event only reports, none of the non alarm events, other than button presses and Edit Mode On/Off events are in the reports.  What am I doing wrong?

There are 2 databases. Alarms & Events are logged to Alarm/Event database.
The Modbus objects that you "Log to historical database" are logged as traces and saved in the citadel database. As logical members they will be logged as 1's or 0's. This data can be viewed with Measurement and Automation (MAX) or within Lookout using hypertrend objects.

    Welcome to the forum!
    In response to question 1:
You can designate only 1 LDB on the Attribute screen of the program.  You can however, also invoke a LDB program using Function Module LDB_PROCESS.  There is some good documentation associated with it.
    In response to question 2:
If you specify a LDB on your program attributes, the LDB will present a selection screen.  Any parameters/select options that you specify in your program are added to the selection screen that the LDB presents.  If you use the Function Module mentioned above, then you alone will control the selection screen and have to pass selection information to the function module.
    In response to question 3:
I am not quite sure what you mean by this one, but if some of the other SDNers have answered your question, then no need to clarify for me.

I have a 2007 Mac Book Pro and a Genius told me that it is "vintage" and that the "logic board" is bad and no longer supported.  He removed the hard drive and told me to buy a "sled" to retreive the data.  Is it worth trying to fix it so that I don't have to buy a new one?  Where should I take it?  Thanks.

    djgornik,
if the Genius is correct and the logic board is bad, then replacing the logic board would be fairly expensive. What problems are you seeing with your MacBook Pro that caused you to visit the Genius in the first place? Whether it’s worth trying to fix it or not depends on your particular circumstances, such as your willingness to trade time for money in pursuing repair vs. replacement.

  • How can I dynamically read a file and show/plot the data in the GUI?

    Hi, everyone,
I hope to implement a VI with the following function:
Usually, when we "read a file" in VI and then show the data in the Waveform Chart or other display GUI, the VI will first read and record all of the data from the file and then show them simultaneously. Now, I want to implement a VI, which could read  the data from a file and display it in a time series. That is, I can define a "sampling rate" or "reading rate", like 100 data points / second,  then the data points could be correspondingly shown in Waveform Chart one by one as the time moves on. The key purpose is to simulate a real-time data collection module using an existing file.
I don't know how to implement this function. Any suggestion and solution are really appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Zhanpeng

Heres the same effect, just a different approach :
The code in the red box was used to create data that you would be getting from a file.
What you could do is (shown above) :
    - Read all of the data
    - Index only one value at a time, and set the 'sampling rate' using a wait in a while loop.
    - Build an array using this value, which will simulate collecting data in real time.
    - I used an array of the iterations as X-values, because they coincidentally correspond to # seconds in my example
    - I then bundled the time array (xvalues) with the values from your file (yvalues)
    - Send that bundle to an XY graph
That should work, though you could implement some different logic for different sampling rates.
Let me know if you need a hand with that.

  • Logical data model

    hi
I am currently making a white paper on rdbms and logical data models. Can anyone point from where can I get a logical data model for the telecommunication industry for data warehousing purposes ???
    regards
    Kunal Choksi

Instead of using exploit like that, I prefer to find a way to represent reality more generally. In the following model for example it is possible to specify also the reason for the end of a marriage ( divorce, death of partner, annulment, alimony ) in the right table.
    CREATE TABLE PERSONS (
         PERSON_ID NUMBER PRIMARY KEY,
    CREATE TABLE MARRIAGES (
         MARRIAGE_ID NUMBER PRIMARY KEY,
         BEGIN_DATE DATE NOT NULL,
    CREATE TABLE OLD_MARRIAGES (
         MARRIAGE_ID PRIMARY KEY,
         CONSTRAINT DIVORCES_MARRIAGE_FK
              FOREIGN KEY (MARRIAGE_ID) REFERENCES MARRIAGES,
         CAUSE_OF_END VARCHAR2(N) NOT NULL, --<--- DIVORCE,DEATH,...WHATEVER
         END_DATE DATE NOT NULL,
    CREATE TABLE ACT_MARRIAGES_RELATIONS (
         PERSON_ID NUMBER NOT NULL,
         CONSTRAINT ACT_MARRIAGES_PERSON_FK
              FOREIGN KEY (PERSON_ID) REFERENCES PERSONS,
         MARRIAGE_ID NUMBER NOT NULL,
         CONSTRAINT ACT_MARRIAGES_MARRIAGE_FK
              FOREIGN KEY (MARRIAGE_ID) REFERENCES MARRIAGES,
         CONSTRAINT ACT_MARRIAGES_PERSON_UNQ
              UNIQUE (PERSON_ID)
    CREATE TABLE OLD_MARRIAGES_RELATIONS  (
         PERSON_ID NUMBER NOT NULL,
         CONSTRAINT OLD_MARRIAGES_PERSON_FK
              FOREIGN KEY (PERSON_ID) REFERENCES PERSONS,
         MARRIAGE_ID NUMBER NOT NULL,
         CONSTRAINT OLD_MARRIAGES_MARRIAGE_FK
              FOREIGN KEY (MARRIAGE_ID) REFERENCES DIVORCES
/The two tables to represent marriage_relations (actual and old ones) are there only because with this choice it is possible to specify a unique constraint on actual marriages that avoids the same person to be related in different marriages.

  • Analog Levels vs SPDIF Levels Input and Output in Logic Pro

    Hello,
I ran a test last night for recording input and output levels from my Yamaha Motif XS8 through an Apogee Ensemble to compare Analog to SPDIF
I connected two TRS cables from the L and R outputs on the Motif XS into the Analog Inputs on the Apogee and also have the SPDIF connection from the Motif to the Apogee.
I put the master fader all the way up on the XS for the volume for analog.
The ensemble in Maestro has a +4 and -10 reference notional level option for analog inputs. i had it at +4 but changed to -10 and the analog got louder (i figured it would get louder for +10, confusing).
anyways, why is it that I can record louder levels for analog than the digital transfer?
I tracked both options at the same time then recorded vocals over it. the digital sound is too low. what's up with that?
and when I tried to bounce the recording to listen to it in ITunes, the volume levels were way lower than my cd playing through iTunes. Please enligthen me on these?
I use to record in a Roland 2480, and had similar results with loudness, but got a little louder through mastering but still....pro cds are way louder and still clear.

I think there is much confusion here!
In summary, you wont be able to control the recording level of S/PDIF.
The reason is that you don't want to!
You need to think of the SPDIF connection as being more like a file transfer method. You are copying the digital data at an output to your harddrive in effect. If I send you an MP3 via email you'd never imagine that your email software is capable of changing the gain of the MP3 I send you. This might sound daft but its a useful analogy. If you need to increase the "volume" of that MP3 then you'd need to ask the sender. Its the same with your set-up.
There could well be somewhere on your synth that adjusts the instruments level, other than the master (analogue) output control. For example, make sure the midi volume of the intrument being played is set to full - ie midi vol 128. Perhaps there is somesort of virtual mixer onboard to control all the muti-timbral parts so make sure your part has its virtual fader turned up.
This is what (basically) is going on in the chain...
Your synth creates sound in its "digital brain". This sound is sent to an "output stage" which will distribute the sound to various outputs. In the case of the S/PDIF it will just send the raw digital data untouched. For the analogue side the digital signal (same as the one sent to S/PDIF) will be converted to analogue and then sent to a amplifier to get it to an appropriate "line level". This final level could well be controlled by an anogue volume control which could be adding more gain (than you think) too.
When things go to your sound card/ daw...
The purpose of a analogue gain control is to set the i/p signal so that it suitably loud to beat any noise that exists in your input circuits - so that a good signal to noise ratio is achieved. Analogue signals need to work in the right loudness zone (so to speak) as the analogue electronics will be designed to handle signal levels of a particular range. the gain control is there to make sure the signal is in that range.
Digital signals are far more predictable though and there is no advantage to your recordings if the incoming digital signal gets an increase of level at the input stage. All you are doing here is effectively adding a few zeros to the binary digital data!
Lets face it the point of recording is to get a copy of the original sound, that is as similar to the original as possible. With S/PDIF you get a perfect copy of what's coming out of your synth - so job's a good un!
If, when you come to mix in logic, you find the level of the digital recording is indeed too low for mixing/mastering purposes then just boost it in logic via a fader or via the gain plugin.
Those referrence values of -10dBV and +4dBu refer to analogue voltage levels only. they have nothing to do with the digital domain. The -10/+4 switch will be only relevant to analogue inputs and outputs. Using an analogue VU meter you should find that a sine wave that peaks at 0dBVU (totally different to 0dBFS BTW) is the equivant of a digital sine wave peaking at -18dBFS.
The analogue headroom (how loud you can go before things distort) depends on the analogue electronics and varies with different design. Analogue stuff, like mixers) often has headroom of 24dB or more. So that digital stuff can interface with analogue properly we allow for that analogue headroom to be around 18dB (usually enough in practise!)... hence -18dBFS(digital)=0dBVU(analogue).
To make your digital and analogue input signals sound similar in level you will probably have to reduce the gain of the analogue input. If you set the incoming analogue signal to peak around -14dB (or less!) or so you will probably find things more equal. If you are working in 24 bit your analogue levels can be seemingly very low before sound quality is affected. Its quite safe to record at -20 or even -30dB as shown on logic's meters for eg.
I hope all this waffle helps LOL!
