Push the power button to restart system
In the last 2 hours I keep getting the pop up screen "Push the power button to restart your system" I was copy files from a segate drive to my Time Capsule. First I thought I wa copying to many files at a time and started to copy one at a time and I still get the pop up. Your Thoughts?
Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Are you sure that's exactly what it said?
That sounds suspiciously like the message you get (in several languages) saying you need to restart your system, and it's a result of a *Kernel Panic.*
If so, they are usually caused by hardware problems, but can be software.
Disconnect all peripherals, except keyboard and mouse. Reconnect one at a time to see if you can find the culprit.
If that's no help, run the Apple Hardware Test, from the separate disc that came with your Mac.

X1 Carbon Touch: have to push the power button twice to boot the system
This is what always happened when I booted up the computer:
First time when I pressed the power button, the computer was on for just 2-3 seconds showing the "Lenovo" logo, and then automatically went back to power-off with nothing happened further.
And then I pressed the power button again, the computer booted and loaded the operating system without any problem.
Even though I'm able to start the computer in this way eventually, it is very annoying. It happens every time when I cold started the system (no such a problem if I simply restart the computer). Anyone knows why I have to push the power button twice to boot the system? I suspect it's something related to the rapid start technology, but cannot locate the exact reason. Anyone else has the similar problem? I have a Windows 8.1 now, but the problem existed when I was still using Windows 8. After I upgraded to 8.1, the problem still exists.Batteries

i accidentally pushed the power button of my macbookpro... it restarted but doesnt open... what appears now is a flashing FOLDER logo with a QUESTION MARK on it.. can someboby help me to fix this?
(Assuming you don't have a firmware boot lock set)
First easy step...
1. Shut down the computer if it's on (hold the power button down... until it shuts off)
2. Press the power button
3. Immediately press AND hold the Option key ASAP
Hold until drive option images appear in a single row across the screen. Typically most people running 10.7 or 10.8 will see 2 drive options to boot from: the main volume they usually boot from, and a recovery volume. If your main volume pops up. Use the cursor or arrow keys to highlight/select the main volume and press enter. That should boot your main volume. Let me know what you get from this point... I'll give you more as you go along. -

My macbook pro (August 2010) keeps freezing when apple mail starts up. This happens every 2nd time I turn on my Macbook Pro. This forces me to hold down the power button to restart my Macbook Pro. Does anyone else experience this, and is there a fix? Thx.
since upgrading to OS lion, my mac book pro (2010 August) keeps freezing (non responsive, requires restart) when i turn on my mac and the system is trying to open apple mail. while apple mail is attempting to collect new mail, the macbook pro freezes. this happens every 2nd time i try to start up my computer. this only started happening after i upgraded to OS lion. please let me know what I need to do to fix this. being forced to restart every 2nd time i turn on my macbook pro has been very frustrating. not sure if apple mail is also the cause of my macbook pro for being very slow during start-up (on the occasion the computer doesn't freeze).I am having similar 'freezing' problems with many programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, etc.). I have done a clean install of Lion instead of an upgrade when it came out. Perhaps something went wrong with my install? I'm thinking about wiping and reinstalling.

Why does my iMac (on occasion) not shut down, warning message comes on saying i have to switch off by pressing and holding the power button then restart, something to do with a Panic report?
Thanks
BrianHi mende1,

After pushing and holding the power button on my Mac the apple screen comes on and after a few seconds there is a loading bar that tries to load something for a few seconds then it shuts down. I would say it is approximately 45-50 seconds after pushing the power button. Power comes on then shuts right off. This all originated when I tries to log in as a different user. It froze for a while, then I shut down the computer with the power button. Because I couldn't so it from the apple icon on the desk top
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions. -
It shouldn't crash just because I type in my screen saver password. But it did. I had to push the power button to shut it down and turn it back on.
Freezes happen occasionally. Hard to pinpoint a cause. I wouldn't let it worry you as they are rare. If this happens often then post back as there may be something wrong.

My mac pro wont start. I push the power button and I get a click sound. A few seconds later another click sound and that it. I've tried different power plugs. Going direct into the wall, through a power strip. By iteslf, with other devices plugged in. I removed hard drives, and some RAM, and nothing. Sometimes it would not turn on, and then some minutes later it works. So its was sparatic, but now its been the same situation for three days where it wont turn on.
I'm guessing power supply, but I wanted to see if anyone had a similar expereince and what the solution was, before I drag this beast to my local Apple store and have them look at it. Its a real pain to get it there and back and I want to be armed with some info for them. I already dragged this to them when it first started to do this, and of course it started up just fine for them. And you know if it works for the Genius then theres nothing wrong with. No matter what you explain to them.
I figure if anyone had a the same problem and was able to resolve it, I can relate that experience to the Genius even if it start up for them.
ThanksTry a SMC Reset using the extended method:
Remove the AC power cord.
Press the power-on button. [This drains the stored charge from the power supply]
wait a quarter minute.
Restore the power cord, being certain to JAM it into the socket, as the big block of rubber inhibits proper seating.
wait a quarter minute
attempt to power on.
If no joy, examine the button battery half-hidden behind the graphics card. Remove it to measure the Voltage. A new battery should not cost over US$5, and measures a little over 3 Volts. BR-2032 is used in garage door opener controls and car door locks controls. The geeks at Radio Shack can measure it for you. -
10.6.8 update won't install gets half way through then just freezes spinning beach ball for 4 hours any ideas y. Tried and restarted 3 times already does the same thing each time have to hold down the power button to restart. Anyone can help
Ok will check, as of right now I have 82.57gb free, that's plenty of space will check the disk though using disk utility. Also I am now downloading the update from the apple website instead of going through software update

My 06' Macbook Pro crashed with vertical, green pixelated lines and now will not advance past the turn-on screen with the apple filled with green lines as well. Then, it says to hold down the power button to restart. I have tried several times to get it past this point but tnothing helped.
I have an appointment at the Apple store today, but was wondering : will all of the information and files on my desktop be lost? Or is this a logic board problem?
Any help is much MUCH appricated.I'm not sure, if you're out of warrenty it'll cost quite a bit for the replacement of the logic board replacement...unless you have apple care. you could ask apple to try and recover your hard drive but i'm not sure.
