Putting animated gifs in a Fireworks layout: What is the deal?

Ok I have scoured the help files.
Im not finding what I need to know.
I want to create a Fireworks layout with 10 squares that have photos in them that fade back and forth between one image and another, slowly.
I would imagine I can pull this off with animated Gifs.
Thing is, I can not figure out how to pull this off in Fireworks.
Do I slice up my layout and make each photo square a symbol, then give it a different state and tween between them?
And if so, how do you control that?
Or do I make animated gifs in Photoshop and drop them into Fireworks?
I tried this and the gif came in with 40 states and the animation looked ridiculously bad. Not smooth and way to slow.
Is there a decent video tut on how to make animations in Fireworks.
I havent found it yet (nothing on Adobe TV oddly)
I have a feeling this shouldnt be that difficult but so far, it is.
I also want to have a rollover in the same layout.
Is this asking too much of Fireworks?

Well, some time ago I also thought: Why not create a set of very complicated animated GIFs (using Fireworks, of course;-) and connect them to the HTML/CSS layer of the web design, and thus do with html/css and images things that are only possible with Flash and/or adavanced AJAX scripting.
I soon realised that this is not possible -- and in certain cases, not needed at all. Animated GIFs (+ an HTML/CSS layer) cannot substitute AJAX scripting or Flash.
Even more: Even if in some cases you can achieve a certain effect using only animated GIFs, this will be at the cost of very poor browser performance! Reason? Animated GIFs slow down browser performance, and a lot. Flash does not slow down performance in browsers so much. JavaScript doesn't slow down performance so much, too (although it depends).
Example: Put 100 animated GIF images inside one simple html page and watch your browser slow down terribly. Put 500, and it will maybe even crash!   Even simple GIF animations sometimes slow can be seen to slow down when starting, and then at some point, their speed goes back to normal. And that's just one example...
In some cases, Flash is the correct answer to your questions. Well, I don't like Flash much, too, but for certain tasks there are certain tools.
Using very complicated animated GIFs instead of Flash is like using a set of 60 spoons instead one simple shovel... :-)
Just my 2 cents...
PS I don't create Flash content, but in the worst case, I can ask a fellow developer to help me...
PPS I would have created a demo with very complex Fireworks GIF animations only for the sake of pure art/pushing Fw to the limits; never in production:)

  • Animated gif icon for an exception instead of the standard icon?

    Hello,
is there a possibillity to use an animated gif icon for an exception instead of the red standard icon in a web template?
I tried  to change the standard icon s_s_ledr.gif against an animated gif icon in the mime repository, but it does not work. In the IE the icon is still shown without animation.
Maybe I´ve changed the wrong icon?
    Can you please help me?
    Greetings

    Hi Andreas,
it is possible to integrate own symbols for exceptions. If you can use animated gif I don't know. However there is a post over here explaining the usage of the modification for symbols:

I opened a file on my desktop that I don't remember putting there. We use many photos and I thought it was a photo file I was looking for. It turned out to be a keychain certificate from a client of ours.  Does this mean that they were spying on me?  What is the deal with that?  Any ideas?

Interesting tid bit.  I created an AAC of the original file, deleted the original MP3 from my library and also deleted the Clean matched track from the icloud.
Result is that it matched with the explicit version of Mrs. Officer this time.
What I am curious about is which songs this is happening for. I've went thru a few batched of about 500 songs at a time and redownloaded in 256k for many tracks. Sadly we don't have people to bring this to our attention and I have so much music that it's impossible to go thru every song to make sure I am getting the right version.

  • çnow won't sync back to my iPad because it says I don't have permission on this computer. I don't want to download it from iTunes again because it took up a lot of bandwidth. What's the deal

I bourght "E O Wilson's Life on Earth" and backed it up to my iMac. Now it won't sync back to my iPad because it says I don't have permission on this computer. I don't want to download it from iTunes again because it took up a lot of bandwidth. What's the deal?
I also made the big mistake of downloading a free book about the making of the movie "Frankenweenie." Mega-memory eater. Now it wants to download additions and started to do so---now says paused. I can't delete the bloody thing. Seems like nothing I've downloaded, including free books, can be deleted. How can I get rid of this garbage?
Is there any way to just transfer my music from my iMac to my iPad and not affect anything else on my iPad? The whole iBooks thing is just a mess as far as I'm concerned. Is there any way to just drag and drop?

"I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up."
Correct.  it does not magially appear in other places.  It will only be where you put it.
"I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everything. "
Correct as well.  Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.
You need to copy everything ( itunes library/contacts/pics/calendars/files/docs) from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old one, to the new one.

  • What's the deal with dual processors???

The whole dual processor thing has been bugging me for some time now. If I have a dual 500mhz processor, is it the same as a 1.0ghz processor, worse than one, better than one?! Are there other factors at play? In my limited scope, if you had a dual 500, 533, whatever, it would be the same as a single 1.0ghz - and yet these dual processors are priced much cheaper. I really am at a loss as to how computers do their processing, and how to compare single processor G4's and dual processor G4's when making a purchase.
    Insight would be greatly appreciated!

And you shouldn't forget, the future is multiprocessors. There is a limit to miniturization, and the solution seems to be multiplication. So operating systems and applications are increasingly going to be multiprocessor-aware. Maybe a perfect example is the upcoming MacOS release, Snowleopard. Apparently, there will be almost no cosmetic changes. The changes will essentially be 'under-the-hood'. And you can bet, that some of those changes will be increased efficiency with respect to multiple processors.
So what's the deal with airplane peanu...err, dual processors?
The advantage, theoretically is, having more workers to do the work. Your 1ghz processor is like a worker who can lift 100kg, and your 500mhz are like workers who can lift 50kg each.
So where's the advantage? If you have a farm with 40 kg hay bales in the field that you need to pick up, your better off with two workers than one right? Or 8 workers in the case of a 8-core MacPro. So an multiprocessor-aware operating system, doles out the work much more efficiently, spreading the tasks around, or spreading a single task around in pieces (if the app is so written).
You've heard of render farms? The multiple computers used to render the frames of animated movies? Its the same principle. Having computer 1 render the first 1000 frames and computer 2 the next, the project gets done within a lifetime. If they had had only one computer, ToyStory would still not be finished.
Its the future. Just wait till the end of this year for example. Nehalem chips will be sporting even more processors.

  • What's the deal with AmEx?

I'm currently rebuilding after a period of unemployment and lower income during the recession. From the second half of 2012 on, I have had no new chargeoffs/lates on any of my credit reports.
Within the past year, I opened new deposit accounts with Bank of America and Capital One (360), and following that, both banks have issued credit cards to me. The two cards from Cap One are unsecured and have small limits, and the limit on each card was increased after five months. The BoA card is the 99/500, and I expect I'll get the $99 back within a year or so.
With several years of clean history now, I tried applying for a simple AmEx card, and of course was abruptly turned down. I even escalated the application to their executive office, pointing to the clean history, and was rudely turned away.
While Cap One obviously caters to the whole credit spectrum, BoA is a prime lender, and both "big banks" have clearly made efforts to supply products that I need and to invest in me as a long-term customer.
AmEx, on the other hand, is a mystery. I don't need their prepaid products, as I already have deposit accounts, but a charge or credit card with them would be helpful, but they don't want anything to do with me. What's the deal? They're facing enough headwinds between the loss of the Costco account, the lawsuit earlier this year, and the poaching of affluent customers by the other issuers. And I know they're aware of it - just a few days ago I filled out an e-rewards survey that was clearly commissioned by AmEx, as it asked for perceptions of Amex compared to issuers including Chase, and whether I would consider each issuer when applying for a card.

I would feel differently if these were still with the original creditors, but when the OCs sold them to the junk debt buyers, their interest in them disappeared, and it's now a matter of how much money, if any, the JDBs should receive when they themselves acquired the accounts for a few pennies.
And I think it's a mistake to look at this with any greater sense of morality than the banks do. Their business is modeled on how much "y" they can get for "x", and when Mr. Jones applies for credit to fix his leaky roof and shelter his family, no one at the bank is thinking about the welfare of his children in deciding whether to give him a home equity loan. I'm just looking at it on the same level as they do: if I send $ to JDB Inc., what will I get in return?
Thus, my original question: what is the relative importance of 3 chargeoffs 4 years ago against a more recent period of clean history, or at what point (call it a score, if you will) are the chargeoffs not predictive?Actually, I have to say I don't really disgree with you on this. When it comes to paying collectors (JDBs), I look at it purely in terms of "whats in my best interest?" Any moral obligation, AFAIC, evaporates when the OC decides to sell my debt for pennies on the dollar - after that its simply a matter of whats best for me. Sooo... again I ask, are ANY of the OCs reporting the charge-offs with an unpaid balance? That makes a difference in how you should proceed, IMO. As for your question, you really do have to look at it from the perspective of the lender. Different lenders *do* have different standards regarding this - some put much more weight on recent history and will forgive past issues (like Capital One), while others put less weight on recent history.. AMEX is one that puts less. Both are business decisions and both are valid and work well for each company.

  • What is the deal with this thing?

My computer no longer recognizes my ipod mini, won't charge it, or anything. It isn't responding to anything. I have tried resetting it so many times. All it does is show the "Do not disconnect." screen, and the backlight turns on when I press a button on the click wheel. My computer does not acknowledge that the ipod is connected to it at all, so I just diconnected it. However, the screen still says the same thing! I cannot find anyway to get some help off the Apple site. There are e-mail addresses or anything, which is completely annoying. My ipod mini is 13 months old and cost way too much money for this to be happening. Is it lost for good? What is the deal with this thing? Seriously, please help.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
    Still no joy, see these.

I am getting sick and tired of clicking the "Report this Post" button.
People need to seriously watch what's details they are posting!
The other day I reported a post that had full name, address, phone number, email, serial number, etc.
    It's starting to get frustrating.

I just want people to realize that these forums ARE a public place and that the info they post may remain on the forums indefinitely if not removed by a host, and that everyone can read what is posted.

  • What is the deal with the Zen Aurvana headphones?

Can anyone explain this to me? (Please note that I am a review addict, and look at reviews before buying anything so I don't make a regretful choice. One of the things that sealed my decision on the Zen was the 8.3 from CNET.)
I've been deciding to upgrade from the Zen's EP-480 set for a few weeks now, and it's a tossup between the Aurvana and the EP-630.
Problem is, everywhere seems to report that the Aurvana is very average. Looking at customer reviews on retail sites and media critics, they all barely rate the Aurvana above average. Looking in the same sources at the EP-630, it has a close to perfect score from various ones.
Now, here's what blows my mind. I stumble upon Creative's European site, and the reception for the Aurvana is better than the EP-630 set. Other countries seem to love the Aurvana more than the EP-630, while the US does not. See for yourself:

I use it quite a bit for zooming in and out (by dragging up and down) but you have to be careful you don't move left or right when doing this as it then becomes a bit unpredictable as you say...
If you just want to use the playhead for dragging left and right (and if you can't find a pref to turn it off) you'll just have to be careful to drag only in the horizontal axis and not up or down..

    Thank you for your response.
After searching around for any pointers to my problem, the above fixes I listed were the things that came closest to maybe addressing the issue, that I was able to locate. But since none worked, and as you pointed out, it is now clear they will only help towards viewing sent images rather than helping with inserting any images in the body of the email, which is the problem I suddenly started facing today.
Coming to your suggestion, on opening the Write window, the Insert choice on the menu bar is indeed available. And I had already tried using that, by clicking on the '''Insert ----> Image''' option listed. That opens
up the "Image Properties" box but using that has not resolved the matter either. It results in an image box getting inserted within the email but without the actual image itself.
Plus, normally I am able to use the '''Paste''' function in the Edit menu or through right-click, but today the (Cut/Copy/Paste) functions have gone inactive, thereby disallowing me to use that to place an image within the email.

It happened to me but later I figured out that cellular signal was not that great and so the Internet was very slow. It took me about 2 minutes to get the full resolution picuture on either of the app you've described. Try to get faster internet either by wifi or good signal and then check.

  • What's the deal witht he Fizzle???

    Hi guys,
What is the deal witht he fizzle after waking up from sleep?
I have posted a video on Youtube of the problem, listen around 25-27 seconds mark,
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSOj9MBSVso
    Thanks
    Danny

    Danny,
What you hear is the optical drive's mechanism checking for a disk. It is completely normal, and sounds so.
I'm not directing this just at you, but I would really like to know why people feel the need to find problems with their computers when none exist. This is just one example; there are many more. Another good example is a recent thread with people complaining about the way their MBPs wake from sleep. What is in fact occurring in this second example is entirely normal, and causes no problems for anyone. They have simply latched onto one perfectly normal and benign way that MBPs work, and insist on calling it a "fault."
I'm truly not flaming you, so please don't feel that way. I just don't understand why people feel the need to waste their time stressing over problems that do not exist, when they could be doing something productive, or simply enjoying their costly (and perfectly normal) machines.
    Scott
