PXI 6133 harware failure

We have a PXI-1042Q computer chassis with 4 PXI-6133 data acquisition boards installed. All of the four boards were working. One day in last week, it seems like one of them stopped working. When I turned on the computer and the "Measurement&Automation Explorer"->"Device and Interfaces"->"PXI-6133XI1Slot6"->"Test Panels", it showed "Hardware failures, do you want to continue?". Then I clicked "yes" and entered the test penel. I clicked "start" then it showed error. The error message was: "Error-50152 occured at test panel. Possible reason(s): a hardware failure has occured. The operation could not be completed as specified".
The other three boards is still working. Ii tried swapping the board in slot 6 (which is not working) with the boards in other slots. The working boards were still working fine but this board still didn't work.
Could anyone suggest what could be the reason and what should we do in this situation? We need all the boards to work for taking a complete set of measurements. We purchased the system about 10 years ago. The board which is not working was purchased probably 6 years ago.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

wohoho,
Just to confirm, you tried swapping out this card into other slots to try and see if it receives data? Additionally, do you have a spare card that you could use in the mean time that can collect data to confirm the malfunction of the card? Can you try to test the card in a different chassis as well?
If all these cases come back negative, it seems as though the card is broken and non functional. How this could have happened, there is really no telling. Age, constant usage, power surge, physical damage, and/or the environment are all possible reasons.
You can call into National Instruments Support line and create a service request to try and get the hardware repaired.

  • PXI 6133 - P0.4

Has anyone had problems using P0.4 digital input on a PXI-6133 card?
I've tried to use it on a couple of cards and cant get it to work, all other lines on the port work fine.
    Any ideas?
I dont think it is anything I am doing. Is this a known problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Scott,
I assisted you in testing the PXI-6133 card and together we found that the cable connecting the card to the SCB-68 was a SH68-68-D1 cable, which is typically used with our digital products where pin 19 (P0.4 on the PXI-6133) is not connected. The correct cable is the SH68-68-EP for the PXI-6133.
The SH68-68-D1 and SH68-68-EP cables look identical, the only visible difference being the part numbers on their label.  184749-xx for the SH68-68-EP and 183432-xx for the SH68-68-D1.

  • Ni pxi 6133 two channel triggering

I have a ni PXI 6133 mounted on NI pxie-1071 chassis controlled by ni pxie-8735.
I have 4 analog input channels and i would like to have an 'or' trigger on two of these channels.
It's possible to set two trigger sources?
    Riccardo

    Hi Riccardo,
it is not possible t o set two trigger sources for the same channel (setting the second trigger source overwrites the first) so it is not possible even for two different channels.
You can try to route the trigger path internally (to verify if it's possible select your device from MAX and look at the table in "Device Routes" tab.

  • Analog, digital and pfi triggering of PXI 6133 card

    Hello,
i am using PXI-6133 card. i observed that there  are three type of triggering options(i.e., analog, digital and PFI) available on each card. i want to know the difference? and also best  one.
    regards
    chandu

    Hi chandu,
Analog triggering is based on the value of an analog
signal. For example you can trigger when your analog signal goes above or below
a specified value. Digital triggering happens on a rising or falling edge of a
digital signal. For either type of triggering you must have a trigger source
that is the signal you are triggering on. For digital triggering on your card this
can be any PFI line. For analog tirggering it can be any analog input channel.
A detailed explanation of the triggering capabilities of your PXI-6133 can be
found in the S-Series User Manual. Triggering is discussed in Chapter 13. Also
a more great summary of triggering in general can be found in the Developer
Zone article, Tips and Techniques in Data
Acquisition Triggering - NI-DAQmx. What triggering is better depends on your
application and which one is more suited to your trigger signal. If you have a
digital trigger source then digital triggering will work great. If your trigger
source is an analog signal than you will probably need to use analog triggering.
Let me know if you have any questions and have a great weekend.

  • Triggering PXI-board: Intermittent failure?

    Hi, Everyone!
I'm trying to perform sampling from two boards at the same time. One board is an ordinary PCI-6224 and the other is a PXI-6229 located in our PXI-system. After a lot of trial and error (and some help from these discussion boards) I succeded performing sycnchronized continuous sampling from both boards by using the VI attached. It exports the master clock to a pfi-port and this signal is taken in by the pxi-board through another pfi-port and a physical wire.
Apparently, the VI manages to trigger the pxi-board, but not every time. Looking at an array indicator while running my main program I se that the channels from the pxi-board "drop out" perhaps one in four times. Any idea what cause this behaviour? I'm an amateur in LV and can't figure this out myself.
    regards,
    Einar

    Hello!
You could implement some real HW triggering in order to fully synchronize the boards. Please look at shipping examples and examples on our website where you can see SW triggered and HW triggered examples. If you look at these examples you will also see how they make parts of the code execute in a specific order using the error cluster.

  • PXI 8156B Battery Failure and restore harddrive.

    Hi,
I am working on restoring a very old system built using PXI8156B, attached are the snaps.
The system has damaged OS. I want to restore by ghost image which was captured just before final system was ready for operation.
The CPU module has battery failure which cause "Loading defaults" thereby booting from C. I tried making boot sequence "A,C" but was no success.
I would like to know how do I restore the battery..? There doesn't seem removable battery.
How can I restore the ghost image if battery solution fails..?
    Kindly advice.

I would like to erase a partition that I have on my 30gb internal harddrive.
Do you have more than one partition on the HDD? I suspect you have only one since the HDD is only 30 GB.
Your computer is now 8 years old, as is the original HDD. The average life of these drives is 3 to 5 years, so your HDD is well past old age. You may be getting the error messages because your drive is failing.

  • PXI-6682 + multiple Serie S & M cards cause timestamp delay

I'll try to give as much info as possible and hopefuly someone will have an answer to this problem.
    Language: C++
    Introduction:
    1- I have (1) PXI-6682 (Timing card), (6) PXI-6143 (Serie S (8 analog inputs each)), and (2) PXI-6224 (serie M (8 analog inputs each))
2- Every card is a task (so that's 8 tasks
3- Every card is in sync (they give data equal...more or less... to one another
    PROBLEM:
1- Timestamp is off by up to 200 ms (not drifting...simply off by a set number of ms)
2- Every call to niSync_ReadMultipleTriggerTimeStamp gives me a timestamp off by that much
I don't have any info on how the tester managed to know it was 200 ms off, my theory is he tested it with some older equipment to validate the new one

    Hello there,
Kindly help me with DAQmx Time stamp related problem as described below.
    Setup : PXI 6133 Qty 4 (Slot 3, 4, 5, 6)
    PXI 6255 Qty 1 (Slot 2)
PXI 6255 doing a Continuous Acquisition at 1 mSec Sampling and 1000 samples/iteration.
PXI 6133 doing a Ref Triggered Acquisition at 1 uSec Sampling interval and Pre and Post Trigger samples of 100000 Samples each.
Test : PXI 6133 - Reference Trigger Configured on PFI 1 line of First PXI 6133 card.
input Signal given to AI 0 OF First PXI 6133 card.
All PXI 6133 cards are included in a single task.
PXI 6255 - Input given to Channel 0 AI
External Function generator - One Digital Trigger generated of width 50 mSec High Interval.
Another signal generated for input to above cards. (Square wave of 10 mSec Period - 5 periods generated on the rising edge of trigger)
So It means When I acquire square wave in my waveform, I can consider rising edge of square wave as a rising edge of trigger (as both signals are generated aligned from external function generator)
I have attached Screenshots and programs I have used for that.
Problem: As both singal are generated at a same event, Both 6133 and 6255 should acquire that singnal at a same timestamp.
I have also read related documents about timestamp but I could not succeeded to find any link in this.
I am getting square wave 100 msec earlier in 6255 then of 6133.
If I used only single card of 6133 then that inaccuracy of 100 msec is shifted to 25 msec.
Please help me as soon as possible.

  • Why does it take so long to clear a task (with DMA transfer) using the PXI bus?

I am migrating a system which used to use a PCI-6133 (8 channel simultaneous AI) and PCI-6733 (8 channel AO) to one that uses a PXI-6133 and PXI-6733 mounted in a PXI-1033 chassis.
In general, things seem to work (synchronized AI/AO running near the maximum rate on both devices), with the one exception that clearing an AO task on the PXI-6733 takes forever (on the order of 20-30 seconds).
Even when I try the sinewave generation for the PXI-6733 in the MAX test panel it takes the same amount of time to stop the task. If I switch to using interrupts as the transfer mechanism, it stops immediately.
I tried using the interrupt transfer mechanism on my more demanding set of synchronized tasks, but that does not produce the right behavior (even though it does not give any errors).
Is there any trick (or better diagnostic) to help get my tasks working with DMA under PXI that used to work fine on PCI?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Patrick,
I'm using a PCIe-8361 controller. The computer is a Dell T5500 workstation running Windows 7 x64. I see the problem every single time I try to clear a task running on the PXI-6733, including my example using the Measurement & Automation test panel (from the very first time I try the Sinewave Generation onward). I can try other parameters in the test panel, but I don't need to adjust anything from the defaults (e.g., Rate = 1000) to get the behavior. I will also try installing the PXI chassis in a few other computers we have here just to confirm that it's not computer specific. From your line of questions I can at least gather that there's nothing obvious (like a known bug with the PXI-6733) and that I should expect this configuration to work.
Thanks for your help and I'll post any other findings I obtain.

  • Hardware Failure - Really depressed

Just wanted to share my story...
My Apple TV arrived yesterday. After anxiously waiting since they were initially available for ordering, it FINALLY arrived.
After unpacking, setting up etc, I noticed that when I started the unit, it simply displayed an image of the Apple TV and a big white question mark above it. The status light was alternating between white & amber which according to the docs, that indicates a hardware failure.
So I called into Apple support and after a few steps (resetting via holding down menu and down) as well as several power cycles, the same problem remained. The tech explained that this is most likely a harware failure. He also explained to me the boot sequence which I thought was interesting.
The internal disk has 2 partitions setup. 1 with the OS install and 1 with a disk image of the OS to use as a recover option. The Apple TV will make 5 attempts to boot using the standard OS and then attempt to recover using the disk image. If both of these fail to boot the system, the status light will alternate between white and amber.
Long story short is that I am now waiting for Engineering to contact me (Tech told me that since this was a new product, all returns needed to be handled by Engineering) with the logistics of how to return my unit (bought online) as well as get a new unit shipped-out. I am still waiting to hear back and will call them if nothing by noon today to find out the story.
Bottom line is that I am bummed out as I have been waiting for this product for A LONG TIME (even before Apple invented it as I have tried MANY digital media streaming techniques via Windows and they all suck (including XBox 360's pathetic interface and controls).
Has anyone else experienced any hardware issues?

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305164
yep hard drive / volume failing to mount. good info on the partition and os image.... thanks.
i wouldn't really call this a bug, in all fairness to apple, it is a hardware defect, explicable to shipping / handling (you go inside of a UPS/FEDEX/USPS shipping center and see how they handle your packages).
now, apple does have some bugs, or more appropriately software deisgn issues to deal with, but all in all the prodcuts seems like it is very nice - just currently a bit unduly limited.

  • Redundent mail server setup (backup mail server)

i have been reading all the post of setting up a mackup postfix server. i have looked at the configuration files and have a second machine ready to be implemented but have some questions on how exactly the backup works. my current setup is:
    - xserve1 with 10.4.3 OD master running mail, web, dns, ichat, ftp, host name is mail.mydomain.com
    - xserve2 with 10.4.3 (i will make this replica) running web and backup dns
    - G4 466MHz with 10.4.3 Server running mail and web, host name is mail2.mydomain.com (this is to bemy postfix backup server)
all 3 are behind a firewall with NAT. they have local LAN IPs with NAT to 3 separate WAN IPs and open ports for the needed services.
my first question is: do i need to run dns as well on mail2.mydomain.com?
while i understand that mail stays in the queue on the postfix backup, does that mean that while mail.mydomain.com (primary mail server) is down users will not be getting any mail? can the users actually login to the mail2.mydomain.com and if yes how do they authorize?
should i keep mail2.mydomain.com as a standalone or make it part of the directory?
    any info is appreciated.
    thanks

don't mail servers hold mail for days anyway and keep
retrying and when our mail comes back up will get all
    the mail?
Yes, they typically do (unless some braindead administrator has configured his server to try only for a few hours or so).
i assume there is no difference if my
backup mail server runs on 10.3.9 then?
    None whatsoever.
    - is there a practical way to set up a mail that
clinets can login to and check mail while the primary
    server is down?
    Practical? No.
can the backup server forward as well
while it holds to the queue?
Why would you want that? Where should it forward to if the primary is down? As soon as the primary is up, the secondary will forward to i.
the last time i had some
coruption and problems with reconstruct (which you
helped me with), we were down for 24 hours. i am
trying to avoid this. i have an image and i run
mailbfr to backup i assume i can use that in case of
harware failure or massive os corruption that may
    take hours to fix.
If push comes to shove this may help. Although images are never too brilliant for mail services recovery.
my problem is that if this happens
during the week, during daytime we cannot really
afford to be down at that time.
This is really your call. Only you can decide how much money you want/need to throw at resilience. But if you decide you cannot afford more than an hour of downtime, you will need far more than an onsite secondary mx

  • Single virtual channel with multiple digital ports

    Hi all,
I have created a program that creates a task to read continuously from 3 digital port lines from the same device (PXI-6133). I am trying to figure out how I can retrieve the data from each port line to put into a waveform graph. Currently, I am using the DAQmx Read instance with "1 Channel N Samples" but I get a waveform with all values at the same time or a waveform graph with all three lines transposed.
I am using Windows XP and LabVIEW 8.6.
    Appreciate any help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Matt,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately thats not quite I am looking for. I am sending the DAQmx task the 3 port lines that I want therefore as I have read it bundles them all into one channel by default. What I want to do is take that one channel and parse out the data of each of the 3 port lines to create 3 new waveforms to work with individually.
After fumbling around a little bit, I was able to sort of get what I wanted. I've attached a screen shot of that portion of the program. The red circle in the bottom right hand corner is how I want to end up. I only did it for one of the pieces of data just to try it out and the conversion to string is just for me to print out what I'm working with. Unfortunately, when I look at the waveform it seems like maybe some extra 0's are being thrown in because its not the same graph that appears from the beginning (when all 3 pieces of data are transposed on each other). Let me know what you think.
    Thanks,

  • Mac Book Pro - SATA vs FW800 external drives

I am pruchasing a MBP this week for road editing and I have a few storage questions for those in the know.
In the past I have always blindly trusted a single external FW drive to capture, store and edit my projects. Since these jobs would be 5-10 days straight work and then playback at the end, there is little time for backup during a project. You hardly have enough time to sleep. Thankfully, I have never experience a hard drive failure and have always completed the dedline. But, I have collieges that have run into nightmare harware failure and lost everything one night before playback. So, with the cost of external drives so cheap right now there are several options to explore for my new road system so that I never experience this, EVER.
Which one is best method for FCP editing in DVNTSC, DVCAM or HDV for reliabily and mirrorer backup during a quick, but always important job on-location job?
    1. Just continue to buy multiple individual external FW800 or 400 drives and mirror them using software, like chronosync ...This is what I do now and this works for nightly backups in house, but what about for jobs that last for days and store 100's of gigs of video? There is no time for this daily backup...
    2. Buy multiple FW 800 drives and set up a RAID 1 using software...? I have not done this and have heard it can be CPU intensive since it's software based. Can this be done and still be able to capture hours of footage on the fly without a dropped frame or problem?
    3. Buy a large RAID 0 or 1 system like the 1TB Two Big from Lacie or the G-SATA RAID system from g-technology so that the hardware handles the RAID mirroring between the 2 drives in one housing... or does this method also come with software to do the RAID 1 configuration?
Basically, I don't ever want to get into a spot in the future where a client on the road didn't get their finished product because of a failure on my drives part. So, I feel that the RAID 1 system setup, with swappable drives is best, but since I have not successfully done this before, does anyone have any suggestions or have this successfuly set up now using FCP?
And... which drives are better over all for this FW 800 or SATA drives? I even saw some drives with quad interface... that's cool.
    Thanks for any help.
    Tom

Keep in mind a RAID 1 only protects you from hardware failure of one of the drives. It does not protect you if the hardware raid/chip set decides to take a vacation. Also, if FCP corrupts a file, it is written as corrupt to both drives.
I'm a big fan of separate but equal. Two drives. One goes to the site, the other remains at the hotel. At night, you back up the site disk to the the hotel disk. If something happens to the computer and the disk at the site the next day, you at least have the material back at the hotel.
eggs. baskets. that sort of thing.
    good luck.

Have had to re-install Reader as a result of harware failure. How do we activate the PDFMaker add-on which is still current on the new installation?

Ah, Ok. You just open the Tools panel and sign in. ExportPDF subscriptions go with a particular Adobe ID.

I use Toast to burn DVD's and have been getting a lot of harware failures with a '0x3' error code. Burning the same content to an external Firewire DVD drive works perfectly. Anyone else seeing this? I've only had this machine a few months and would hate the think the drive has died already. I have the extended Warranty so no problem there, but I'd rather not have my computer out of service while Apple works on it.
Anyone serviced their own iMac with Apple supplied replacement parts? I've done my own service on desktops for many years, but I don't know if the iMac internals are such that things like drive replacement can be done easily (i.e. can you just open the case an pop the drive out, or do you need to tear the whole machine apart to get to it?).

    Hi,
please apply the note 1614788. After note implementation, you need to set parameter RSR_HIER_THRESHOLD_EXPORTDB in table RSADMIN via report SAP_RSADMIN_MAINTAIN in transaction SE38.
If you set this parameter to value 50.000 for example, all hierarchies with more than 50.000 nodes will be buffered in the database instead of using the export/import buffer.
To find out the current size of a hierarchy, goto the hierarchy maintenance in transaction RSH1 and copy the hierarchie ID from the header data. With this key you can goto transaction SE16 and select table RSRHIEDIR_OLAP (Field HIEID is the hierarchy ID).
    It should resolved your issue.
