QOS on 6500 routed interface

All of the QOS configuration guidance I've seen in the documentation on this website refers to 6500 switched interfaces (switchport mode access/trunk).
Is the QOS configuration different on a 6500 routed interface. For instance on an interface between two core switches in a routed (Layer 3) core?
I have already reviewed all of the IOS-related 6500 Cisco documents I could find, and the latest QOS SRND with no luck finding info on this issue.
Thanks
Greg

  • 3750 qos on routed interface

I have 2 3750G-24 as the core of my voice/data network. I have 2 vlans (voice, data) and it seems like when I cross the routed interfaces (virtual vlanX interfaces) I lose my qos tagging. I have tried route-maps and policy maps but they are not working (the policy maps are not supported on virtual interfaces)
Anyone with a solution?? I have searched cisco.com and unless i am blind, have not found what I am looking for.

  • Router Interface (7304 NSE100) QoS Input Scheduling

    Guys,
I had great feedback on the Switch input scheduling question last week. Many thx to all online (and my colleagues at work) :)
If you can apply input scheduling on a switch port, ie the SP or default queues, can you apply input scheduling on a router interface?
    switch
    input-q----------PFC----------output-q
    router
    input-int---------cef-or-rp----------output-int
At the moment, most QoS for a router is done (in my expreience) on outbound scheduling, ie setting a CBWFQ bandwidth or priority and setting this policy-map outbound on the router egress interface
Should we be doing it inbound for traffic coming into a router interface before the packet gets cef switched (or sent to the RP for process or fast switching)?
So if two packets come into the router interface at the same time, based on a DSCP value, we should schedule a voice packet to be processed by CEF switching (or the RP) before an email packet?
I am just applying the switch methodology that I learned about last week to a router device. I know all routers have different archetectures, so will probably be spefific to a platform. I am using NSE100s (PXF based) on a 7304 platform.
    Kindest regards,
    Ken

  • CBWFQ style QoS on 6500 (Native)

Hi, Is it possible to have CBWFQ style QoS on 6500 SUP2/MFSC2/PFC2, 12.1.23E on the LAN cards, the cards with 1P2Q2T type ports (not the flexWANs). I have read 6500 PFC QoS documentation and did not found any reference to router style CBWFQ (I did not find an option for defining policy maps with 'bandwidth' under classes like the way we do on router IOS). Wondering if it is possible at all with HW/SW combination mentioned above.
If it not possible on the HW above, is it possible with any new HW like S720 etc and 12.2 codes ?
    thanks
    Iftikhar

CBWFQ is not supported on the 6500, except in the case of WAN interfaces, as the QoS is not supplied by the PFC for these modules.

    HI,
You can police the traffic in ingress/egress but the support may depend of your hardware. Please refer to the following link for more information:

  • Apply QoS policies to MPLS interfaces

    Hello all,
We are deploying an MPLS transport network for our research project, and we are getting undefined errors about the QoS application over tunnel interfaces. The tunnel interfaces are those we configure between end points.
For example, if we apply a rate-limit to a tunnel interface, this is not applied, although the router anc CLI let configure the policy.
Does anybody know how to manage this kind of policies or shaping to MPLS?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello,
No, in fact, what we want to configure is output policies. For example, at the ingress LER of the MPLS cloud, we receive some traffic that we set it as an specific class of service, for example, "interactive traffic". Once the traffic is classified, we route it to the correct output tunnel interface, i.e., to the next LSR. It's at that interface where we want to set the policy, so.
When we set the policy, with the "service-policy output tunnel0", for example, the CLI doesn't return any message of error. In fact, it lets to configure it, and if we use the command "show policy-map interface tunnel0", CLI returns the configuration of the policy at that interface.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Configuring QoS for FIOS Router MI-424WR: Traffic Priority and Shaping

Please only read on if you are an experienced internet user familiar with setting the advanced QoS and Firewall settings for the MI-424WR and make use of wireless adaptors from a PC to provide connectivity.
This is my first post and my first week since I moved from Time Warner Cable over to FIOS for iNet (plus HDTV and phone).     While all my services work, the router as delivered and setup is not optimum for internet quality of service.  Instead it was probably out of the box optimized for HDTV and telephone to satisfy most customers and reduce support overhead.   The average FIOS consumer is multimedia sensitive, but that is not so in my genre of internet consumer.   Here in lies the core of my reason for seeking help from like minded and experienced users in this community.
One of the main driving forces in my switching to FIOS was to improve my multiplayer gaming experience where ultra low ping latency and high upload data rates dramatically affect the quality of connection and thus gameplay.    The cable internet service from TimeWarner was providing solid 2MB/1MB down/up data rates with no issues like what Im having now with FIOS.   Again the reason for the switch was both financial and in hope of gaining better data rates and quality of service.   Now with FIOS Im getting about 24/15 down/up data rate on the Extreme FIOS 25/25 plan when measured from my house to Los Angeles server (50 miles away) via Speedtest.net or DslReports.com/tests.     Latency wise, the ping has gone down from 150 to 50ms when measured to my friends who I connect to online that are on the East coast.   The data rate and latency has greatly improved in going from Cable to FIOS.   So far, so good.
Where the problem shows up now, is that now I get an internet "hiccup" every 5-10 minutes that lasts about 1/2 to 2 seconds.   For the average internet user that just streams multimedia or cruises on the net; this is probably undetectable or noticed.   I never had this problem over the same PCs connected wirelessly to my DLINK DGL-4500 Gaming Router when my ISP was TimeWarner's cable service.    Now, using the FIOS and MI-424WR router with everythings being the same; Im experiencing this degregation in quality of service.    Even putting the PC's IP into the DMZ doesnt make any difference, so it is not related to port forwarding.    The issue is squarely in the lap of FIOS and this router as delivered and configured.    This is where the "game" is a foot, and where I need expertise in an area Im new to.
I am not new to being hands on with inet trouble shooting asI have been setting up my own home network (I work from home over VPN to work) for decades;  I would like to leverage the skills of those who are experts in the area that I think can address this issue.   That being QoS and the other device class mechanisms of this router.   Its my guess that this periodic hiccup can be minimized and even eliminated using these advanced features of this all-in-one TV/iNet/Tele router.
With that context being laid down, this hiccup doesnt show up if:
    a.  I connect two PCs connected to the same ethernet hub of the MI-424WR (traffic just over the LAN and not WAN)
    b.  When I was on Cable with my own gaming router wirelessly DHCP connected to my PC and using port forwarding or using the DMZ.
    The hiccup does exist when:
    a.  Going from internet through the MI-424WR to the wireless DHCP connected PC with port forwarding
    b.  Even putting the wireless DHCP connected PC into the MI-424WR's DMZ has no effect
I did read the manual and tried some QoS pritority and shaping and managed to reduce how often the hiccup occured, but I was just making guesses at the settings.   I put in the IP for the PCs I use for my gaming applications (which are very ping and jitter sensitive) into the QoS priority (value 7) and shaping GUI.    Im hoping someone with experience can tell me exactly how to use it and what settings to input.   Im not clear on the device and connection types offered in the QoS menus.
Another thing, is I couldnt find settings for the turning on/off the ICMP echo.   But I assume this is on because it can be pinged by folks on the net to my WAN IP.
Here is the manual for the Verizon provided M424WR router (Current Version of firmware: 20.10.7)
    download link
Here are the QoS traffic priority and shaping values Ive been experimenting with:
Click to view QoS Traffic Priority
Click to view QoS Traffic Shaping
And why it matters to have a solid and stable inet connection for internet gaming?  The hiccup causes slewing or jitter which equates to positional errors in the 3D world that ruins the smooth gameplay that is needed for high end gaming.
Heres a snapshot of me flying the wing of another flight simmer who is on the East coast and me on the West coast.

That's not accurate.  VZ telephone service does not go through the Actiontec.  Also, there are no default settings for QOS in the Actiontec since QOS is rarely needed with FIOS upload speeds.
TMAS wrote:I get an internet "hiccup" every 5-10 minutes that lasts about 1/2 to 2 seconds.
You should not be experiencing periodic "hiccups".  Something is clearly amiss.

Lets see.  The issue shows up on a wireless connection, but not a wired connection.  You think this is a QOS issue and not a wireless issue why?  Have you tried changing the wireless channel?  It very possible you have neighbors on the same channel.  Is the DGL-4500 wireless still on?  Could that be interfering?TMAS wrote:

The settting to enable/disable ICMP echo is on the Firewall/Remote Administration page.

The traffic proirity settings you linked are applied only to your wireless connections.  QOS between the router and your wireless PC will only serve to prioritize traffic between the router and that PC and have no affect on your internet traffic.  Assuming you are not running browsers, VOIP and other traffic from that PC while you're gaming, then that will not accomplish anything.  i.e.  You're giving your only traffic highest priority, but that traffic is not competing with anything (except other nearby wireless connections on the same channel).
On the traffic shaping screenshot, you have broadband ethernet checked, but according to your other thread, your WAN connection is Broadband Coax, not Broadband ethernet.

You need to populate the organization_id or organization_code in bom_inventory_comps_interface.
    Here is a minimal insert
    INSERT INTO bom.bom_inventory_comps_interface

  • I press reset and now i can't get into router interface?

Yestoday i was just experimenting with my router. I set up a restriction for 12am to 12:05am to see if it will block my sister's internet just for the fun.
    However it did not work.
Today my internet was slow because of my sister's laptop. Probably downloading some soft of content. I decide to press the reset button therefore her connection would be taken off.
However  now i want to fix that. I understand how to get into my router's interface:
-By going to my computer and then typing 192.168.1.1 on top...
-Yestoday when i did that it worked. I was able to get into router interface, but now i can't. It gives me "cannot find server"
    I don't understand why i can't get into my router's set up~
    Can this be fixed?

it might be that the reaosn why you're not accessing up the router's set-up page is because the computer connected to it is not getting a valid IP adress already...
    to check this...
    go to START, then RUN
    type in cmd
in the command line, type in ipconfig
take note of your IP adress... that's the computer IP adress..
Now, take note of your default gateway... that is equivalent to your router's IP adress...
in the same window, type in (ping default gateway #) ping 192.168.1.1 . if it replies, then your router's interface should be able to open up
launch internet explorer, then type in http://192.168.1.1

    Hello
We've just tried to configure bridged and routed interfaces at the same time in the lab and we've had a problem.
When we added the def gw for the bridged config we noticed that we had an issue with the traffic src by the rservers in the routed config.
When we deleted the new def gw, the problem disappeared.
I am attaching the lab config.
When we added to it the following line
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.1.1.163
reals B1-B10 could not communicate to the outside world.
Do you know why it does not worked and what could we do to fix it ?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Extending VLANs across routed interfaces

    Hello;
I'm trying to create a L3 core network. The core equipment will be Cisco 3750 enhanced. My idea is make each link between core 3750 a routed interface, with /30 IP addresses.
The problem is the customer needs some VLANs extended across the full enterprise. Is there any way to encapsulate the VLAN inside routed interface?
    Thanks in advance.

I realize this thread is 5+ years old, but I feel like commenting anyway.
If you want to encapsulate the vlan across that link, you won't be able to use routed interfaces.  You will need to use a layer 2 trunk(dot1q).  Therefore, I wouldn't bother with the /30 addresses unless you want to monitor that specific link by IP.  In that case, use a special VLAN just for those two interfaces and put your /30 addresses on the vlan interfaces.
If you want fast fail over on a layer 2 link, well then, use Rapid STP.  The goal should be to get rid of those flat VLANs that span the core and switch to your original plan of routed interfaces using EIGRP or OSPF.

  • Redundant Routed Interfaces

    Hi,
Is there anyway to create redundant inerfaces on a single router?
Essentially, what I am trying to do is to imitate HSRP but on a single router.
Whenever you try to add a second interface that exists within the same network as an existing routed interface, the IOS will prevent it.
Can you use Bridge Groups? Or maybe something funky with secondary interfaces?
    Other suggestions?

    Hi
