Qosmio G30 S-video in composite problem

Dear Sirs,
I cant capture any PAL videos using the win DVD creator capture section.
I even tried to change the settings from NTSC to PAL but it just ignores it.
Please advice.

Hi!
Can you capture videos if you dont use the S-Video to composite adapter?
Such adapters sometimes are causing problems that the signal will not be recognized properly so I would recommend checking this!
Furthermore you should try to update the BIOS. You can find it on the Toshiba website:

  • Qosmio G30-137 - Video card issue - the vertical lines bug

    Hi members,
today my Qosmio G30-137 started making troubles showing vertical lines which look like this:
After using product recovery disk Windows was unable to initiate first start and came up with a bluescreen with the error-code:
    +page fault in non-paged area STOP 0x00000050 (0xC09C3044, 0x00000000, 0X804DA90AA, 0X000000002)+
This basically indicates that memory - either RAM, L2-Cache or Videomemory died. But i also learned that the graphic card can be smoked.
After the blue screen you wont get the system into normal working condition, no matter what you try.
I would strongly advise to check if your Qosmio is under warranty and see your dealer for exchange. Fortunately i bought mine 2006/06/06 so its still under warranty (even if just a view days left).
Additional information: another member of this forum had a similar problem and reported that the whole motherboard has to be changed which causes cost of USD 700.00 and up!
I will let you know what i ended up with.
    BRgds
    The Q

Unfortunately, this sounds like a serious hardware issue as the other member suggested, the GPU (graphic card) could be faulty and therefore the replacement is necessary.
The point is that the GPU is soldered on the motherboard and its not possible to remove the graphic chip from the board. In most cases the whole motherboard must be replaced to solve such graphic problems.
In my opinion you should contact your ASP as fast as possible.
The technicians should be able to help you explain the whole situation and you issue and ask for the further handling.
    Good luck buddy

  • Qosmio G30-126: how to connect analog TV and satellite TV simultaneously

Hi, I have a Qosmio G30-126 and have a problem with simultaneous receiving analog TV (by TV-in port in built-in TV tuner) and satellite channels from satellite set-top-box (by AV-in ports).
I can programm Windows Media Center for analog TV (but without satellite STB) by antenna TV-in port and it works perfectly.
I can programm Windows Media Center for digital channels from satellite STB (but without analog TV) by AV-in ports and it works perfectly.
But i can't program Windows Media Center for both analog TV i satellite STB, because during programming WMC forces me to choose between analog TV or satellite decoder and doesn't allow me to choose two signal sources.
For me it is a big problem, because I have cable TV (analog) and satellite STB with digital channels. And I want to watch on my Qosmio all channels.
    Could anyone help me?

    >... because during programming WMC forces me to choose between analog TV or satellite decoder and doesn't allow me to choose two signal sources.
I think in this statement you answered your question. I had Qosmio G30 long time ago and i also know that WMC cannot handle with two signal sources at the same time.
To confirm this contact Microsoft and ask them. I mean they have designed WMC and know how it works exactly.
Toshiba has just offered proper hardware (TV tuner) to offer TV option on this notebook.

  • Video-in Function - Qosmio G30-201

Hi, I'm starting to question my own sanity. I posted a query a while ago about video capture from the video-in port on the right sode of the laptop adjacent to the s-video input. I never really got a full answer to this (see link http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19160&messageID=70057
I've tried various different sources both video and audio, using the provided cable. Nothing is ever detected or played through this port and no amount of tinkering in Media Centre with the source playing seems to be able to find anything.
I have seen similar questions on the forum none of which seem to have been answered eg:

    Hello Andy,
    >Hi, I'm starting to question my own sanity. I posted a query a while ago about video capture from the video-in port on the right sode of the laptop adjacent to the s-video input. I never really got a full answer to this
Lets see if we can help you to solve this problem.
At first, please connect your VHS tape, or whatever you have, to the Qosmio video-in (composite or SVHS) and the audio in (cable supplied with the notebook)
Composite video in (Yellow RCA), left audio in (White RCA), right audio in (Red RCA)
    FOR MONITORING:
-Open the Toshiba Picture enhancement utility and choose your Video input (Composite or SVHS) and your Video signal (NTSC or Pal)
    https://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiopicenh.jpg
This is used only if you want your Qosmio as a monitor in for your VHS, DVD player, etc.
Select monitor-in on picture enhancement utility, to composite input cable (the yellow) and press the hotkeys (Fn+4) to see the video from your source on Qosmio LCD display.
pressed once = 4x3 mode, pressed two = 16x9 mode, pressed three = return to LCD normal mode
or select the S video option on picture enhancement utility, if you have a SVHS cable connected to video input in your Qosmio.
    NOW FOR RECORDING:
-Pick up a good capture program, you could do this capture with media center 2005, but I let you choose a better one.
I recommend to you the Cyberlink Power Director v5.0 premium
    Link:
    https://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/main_4_ENU.html
there is a free trial download available
Install it and after lauching it, go to the capture section:
Now go to the settings and choose the Toshiba device capture (Toshiba PCI TV Tuner MPEG encoder)
Choose your capture source, too: TV, SVHS or Composite input
    See:
    https://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiorecorder.jpg
If you are using the composite cable, the one supplied with the Notebook (yellow, white and red), please SELECT THE CAPTURE SOURCE AS COMPOSITE
    https://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiorecorder7.jpg
Choose the Soundmax for the G20 or the sigmatel for the G30 as your audio recorder device.
    https://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiorecorder5.jpg
Right now i am doing this record test with a Qosmio G20. Windows Vista installed, by the way.
The example showed on the picture is a capture from an old NTSC video tape performing Madonna live show (dated 1980).
    https://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiorecorder1.jpg
After that capture you can edit, add titles, cut off undesired scenes, etc
    https://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiorecorder2.jpg
You can always view it, with Media Viewer, after captured:
    https://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiorecorder6.jpg
And finally you can produce your Video
    https://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiorecorder3.jpg
    To a DVD, for example:

Let me know if worked to you,

  • Re: Qosmio G30 - RAID Problems on OS Installation

I've had my Qosmio G30-161 for half a year, and thought it'd ought to be time to reinstall the whole thing, so i could get rid of stuff i didn't need (Programs, Viruses and non-interesting video clips).
So i took my XP MCE Cd and tried to install, and i got guided through and come to the place where i needed to choose between 1st Unknown, 2nd Stripping, and 3rd Mirroring. I choose the stripping as i wished my harddrives to be in one. Then when i pressed "next" it gave me the error message "1005 - HDD not ready?"
I've tried going into the BIOS and chaneg the setting to different settings that Toshiba told me to, but it also warned me that if i changed the settings my OS would have to be reinstalled. No problem there. But i still get the same error message "HDD not ready?". So now i have to use another computer than my own to check the forums and mail etc.
Anyone know what i should do? I'll be glad with anything as long as i can have both my harddrives (60GB+60GB), and a working OS. :)
Please help, I'm urging for it, since the computer is the one i use for my school work. Feel free to ask questions about system stuff. If you have an answer, please let it be simple, since i realy don't wanna mess up again ^_^

Please check the details in user manual about the RAID installation.
Usually if you are using the clean Windows XP disk then you will have to include the RAID drivers firstly.
Without preinstalled RAID drivers the HDD will be not recognized and you will be not able to install the OS!

  • Qosmio G30-163: Windows media encoder doesn't recognise video device

I cannot get Windows media encoder to recognise my video camera connected to S-video port (Qosmio G30-163).
I get similar problem with Marratech pro webconferencing application (it crashes after 15-20 second if I try to use it - during the time the application is frosen - in configuration I can see the test picture/video).
If I use InterVideo WinDVD Creator 2 Platinum bundled software for capturing video it works just fine.

    Hi Nesko
In my opinion you see this issue a little bit wrong. You are right about some standards but you must know that every hardware manufacturers dont care much about that. Other way Toshiba as notebook producer can not test all cams and external devices with the unit and also all software you can find on the market. It is a mission impossible.
Qosmio is a multimedia unit and if you read specification about that you will see that you can do everything listed there (watch TV, connect camcorder and create own DVD movies etc.). Every one of us has some specific and unique wishes but nobody can guarantee that everything you want will work.
For example: since almost a year I have Qosmio G20. I have tested it with my camcorder, with VHS recorder using it with preinstalled and also third part software and for every situation I have found solution and it work somehow.
I really dont know which cam you have but if you want to have web conferencing without any problems you should by USB webcam with highest resolutions and frames per second. Web cam will be recognized and installed very fast and you can use it any time. Sorry but web conferencing via MCE and cam is not known to me.
Anyway you can try to contact support. Maybe they have some magic\solution. If you will find out how it works please write again. I am really interested if something like that is possible.
    Good luck!

  • Using both DVB-T & S-Video Inputs simultaneously on Qosmio G30

Is it possible, either in Qosmio player or Media Centre, to have the G30 set up to receive a signal from both the built in DVB-T tuner & an external source, such as Sky Digital, connected to the S-Video or Composite inputs?
The setup in Media Centre seems to insist that you choose one or other, which seems extremely limiting.
Also, if this is possible, would it then be possible to record from one and watch the other?
The other limiting feature seems to be that, despite having a hybrid TV tuner, Media Centre only allow either the Analogue or Digital tuner to be configured, again meaning that it cannot be used to record from one channel and watch another.

    Hi
This is a very interesting question but I presume this is not possible to do with the Microsoft MCE.
As you said you can use either the analogue or the digital configuration but not both together. But of course you can use standard connectors such as S-Video to connect your cable box or satellite receiver to your Media Center PC, and then watch and record TV programs.
But Im not sure if you can do it together.
Some Media Center PCs are equipped to handle multiple tuners.
For example, if your Media Center PC comes with two TV tuners, you can record two shows while watching a third recorded show.
Do you know the Microsoft MCE FAQ site???
    Take a look here:

  • Problems with NVIDIA Geforce Go 7600 display driver for Qosmio G30

A few days ago my Qosmio G30 ( Windows XP) didnot start properly. First the srceen become white and after a few reboots the screen shows a lot figures and after that I get the a lot of vertical stripes over the screen. I only can start in protected mode of windows but the vertical stripes stay. After consultating the Toshiba help desk I find on the Toshiba website a driver for the Nividia Geforce Go 7600.
But I cannot installed it because Microsoft Windows XP reported that the software  have no digital signiture. When I ignore that message the installtion goes on but without result. The computer gives the message that the Nvidia 7600 is not installed properly.
Please have someone a solution of my problem. (Johnnyboy have reported the same problem )

I sounds like a dying video chip, or at least my p100 had simmilar issues when it needed the video replaced.  Odd characters on the screen at random, plus locking up occasionally.  Mine failed from excessive heat.

  • How to switch to S-video- or AV-input on Qosmio G30-188?

    Hello!
How can I see the pictures which are coming in from the av- or s-video-input on the right side of my Qosmio G30-188?
I couldn't find a way in the media centre.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
You can start the Media Center Edition by pressing the TV button which is placed above the F keys! As far as I can remember its a first button.
Pressing this button will launch the MCE that allow you to capture a signal from the s-video in port.
Did you take a look into the user manual? Please do it! The preinstalled user manual provides many useful information and hints regarding the MCE and video in port ;)
Please also take a look here into your first thread and don't post twice:

  • Qosmio G30 TV tuner problem

    Dear All,
    Notebook Model: Toshiba Qosmio G30
I have formatted notebook and installed Windows XP pro, I did my best installed all drivers and programs. I began to test notebook, I have seen one problem TV tuner. As we know before in notebook was Windows Media center edition. There we can easily use TV tuner with default soft.
My question is that, in WINXP PRO, how can I use TV tuner? Antenna cable and other issues already solved. When I am pressing TV button in notebook no reaction. Please assist me to use TV tuner. In Drivers CD I have installed all drivers and programs, but still no reaction.
    Waiting your feedbacks!

    Hello guys
It is very interesting discussion and I just want to write my comment about that.
I dont know Ilyas what are you doing and for what is your company specialized but I dont agree with you. I will not write now about Toshiba notebook but about notebooks generally because all notebooks manufacturers have the almost the same policy.
All notebooks have sticker where is written Designed for Windows XP. That means all of them MUST work well with this OS. Microsoft has designed media center edition for multimedia units that allow watching TV and also many other functions. Notebook manufacturers are responsible for own hardware and it MUST work under WXP (in this case media center edition). You have bought MULTIMEDIA notebook and after first start I believe it was everything ready for use. Am I right? Or you have found something dont want to work?
Every manufacturer (electronic, card or something else) support just delivered product. If you make some changes and there is no original condition you can not expect the product manufacturer is responsiblefor that. Last week I bought sport outside mirror for my car. It doesnt match 100%. What you think, who is responsible for this, car producer or tuning-company? Car manufacturer is not obligated to test all tuning parts available on the market. The same situation is if you use some third part applications and see it doesnt work properly with hardware.
Please be a little bit realistic about that. I am pretty sure you can configure your Qosmio G30 to work well with WXP Pro but you will discover that some functions can not work like with factory settings. Sorry but you must live with this. If you find out which application for watching TV works well please let me know.
    Good luck!

  • Qosmio G30 - system problem after recovery procedure

I have Qosmio G30 - 148 which have Windows XP MCE, when trying to download some programs system crashed and make automatic restart.
I then used a RECOVERY CD to recover my all system and followed the instructions on the CD but when finished and rebooting the system a famous blue screen displayed tell me there's a problem in my system and windows must be restarted.
When reboot in safe mode there is a message tell me that the system is not fully installed. Please run setup again.
Could any body help me in that problem because it's a strange problem?
Note: I tried to install Windows XP from external CD but system did not know the hard disk.

    Hi Ahmed
    I would try to provide some useful hints;
First of all you can install the XP Pro on the Qosmio G30 this is no problem.
I assume you couldnt install the XP on the G30 because your have not installed the RAID driver firstly. As far as I know the XP would not recognize the HDD without the RAID driver.
The RAID driver installation is not very difficult. During the XP Setup procedure you have to press the F6 to include the driver from the external USB FDD drive.
If you dont have a USB diskette drive, then you could use a nLite to create a new XP CD with the RAID driver.
However despite everything Im not sure if this will help.
There could be really a hardware issue with your G30.

  • Qosmio G30 and vga/pcb problems

My Qosmio G30 has developed a vga/pcb problem.
Toshiba engineers tell me the vga/pcb is corrupt and needs to be replaced but since this is built-in the whole mother board must be replaced.
The cost for this is nearly half the cost of the original machine and much more than many new Toshiba notebooks.
Anyone have similar problem or experience anyone have any suggestions.
    Edited by: ADMIN

To me this clearly sounds like the problem that stroke me last weekend - obviously the NVidia GPU died and causes the trouble. Check if your machine is still under warranty - if not i would claim goodwill.
If the repair-costs are too high for you i would sell it on Ebay and get another machine as the technology level is two years (which is a century in computer-business) and you can get better performance at a lower price-point - even if it hurts to let the G30 go.

  • Video card issue on Qosmio G30

About 2 years ago I have bought my Qosmio from Germany with 3500 Euro and first problem occur about 1 month ago when I start playing games.
Notebook is equipped with the nv 7600 gt mobile video card.
Problem with vertical lines on display from boot up. This is a hardware problem if you get this don't try to flash your bios or something like else it didn't work after these lines the next step is u get b.s.o.d. (blue screen) from now on the Qosmio doesn't boot anymore until you disable the vga card driver (7600 gt) in windows (safe mode) with standard display adapter and you can work without 7600 gt mobile as long as you don't have to play games or run 3D programs.
Luckily I was in warranty and ASP changed the whole motherboard (that's the only solution because the video card is together with the motherboard), this is very expensive if you are not in warranty. (About 700 - 900 $)
After I get my Qosmio back from warranty, about 5 days ago (today is 30 April 2008) I just started playing a flight simulator and after 10-15 minutes I get blue screen again. My notebook restarted automatically and again same vertical lines and stripes on my display and same bsod (blue screen).
It is ok for me because I still have warranty for 2 month's but my question is what if this problem occurs after my warranty over.

If it happens again out of warranty, you will have to buy a new laptop. I am in the exact same situation (blue vertical lines on boot, only works with generic VGA driver) and am stuck. I can buy a brand new Dell XPS for the cost of repair of my Qosmio, so I do not think I will be repairing. Another option is to try to sell it as salvage ("Qosmio, excellent condition except motherboard, parts!") perhaps. Meanwhile I have learned my lesson about spending money on a niche product. $1000 laptop that everyone buys is far easier to repair than a $3000 laptop that nobody heard about :(
