QST:: How do I embed flash into a hosting C++ app??

i want to write a windows app that embeds flash. the app will
be written in c++ (visual c++), and there needs to be communication
(two-way) between the c++ app and the flash movie. is this
possible, and how do i do it? does it involve using
ExternalInterface?

Depends on what the communication is to be. If all you want
is Flash to get information and read it and send it back to the
application, yes this is possible.
However, if you want Flash to write to application on the
server -- no it's not possible -- this is for security reasons.
I would also ask why Visual C++. If you have to use MS why
not ASPNET and C#, which would allow you to use Flash Remoting. I
don't know much about Visual C++

I am trying to embedd bitmap images (icons) into the exe file of a built LabVIEW application. I tried it, and got them in a "data" folder. I want everything in the .exe file, you know, just like C/C++ or just about any other programming language.
If anyone has any tips, I would be grateful.
I know about embedding the images in the controls, but that is not my goal. I need images as files to be embedded, somehow, into the .exe. The reason is I am using the picture control to read the images, but they are static once they are read. If it is possible for the picture controls to somehow retrieve the images from some other source, that would work also.
Otherwise, if someone knows how to dynamicall

Actually, many C and C++ programs, like LV itself have folders of data
that aren't linked into their code. But, if that is what you are
looking for, one pretty easy way is to load the images into memory and
place them into a 2D array of data, a string etc. Make an array of
these and make the value default. At runtime, you can now skip the file
I/O, or you can write the data to a temporary on launch and read them
back whenever you like.

How do I embed fonts into Captivate projects?

This question came up in May 2006 but was never really
answered. I'd like to know how to embed fonts into my Captivate
projects so that the output looks the same on all computers. While
the text animations are fine, the Text Caption fields are the ones
that seem to have fonts that go walkies on other computers. I know
you can embed fonts in PDFs. Why not in Captivate (unless I'm
missing something in 2.0).

First, a tip for the forums: If you use the URL tags, your
post won't require horizontal scrolling - sorry, but I use Firefox
and entering a long URL totally blows my ability to smoothly read
the post ... you can manually add a text link by using the "L" tag
as shown below (I've put spaces in to avoid this being turned into

Back to your issue, Charinos. I'm glad you did find the URL,
but that thread and your problem are not even in the same world.
That thread deals with fonts in text-entry boxes (boxes for
end-user text-entry), and you are talking about text-captions, an
entirely different object.
In fact, if you make changes and save those changes to a
text-caption, then publish the project, the fonts in your text
captions will remain stable and are not dependent on the fonts
installed on the end-viewer's machine. The reason is that when the
SWF is compiled, the text captions are converted to images and so
long as the file is viewed as intended in the HTML document - at
the proper size - the stretching you describe cannot take place.
I'm not saying you are seeing things, but if my understandings of
the Captivate machine are correct, what you are saying is happening
cannot
be happening. Something else is going on, like a failure to
save changes, use of non-conforming text-caption boxes with a
resultant loss of margins, or something.
Sorry I'm not more help. I can't duplicate what you are
seeing but I hope someone else can help you out - I may still be
misunderstanding your issue.

Embed Flash into Java Application

Hello Friends,
I need to develop a Java Swing application which can display the menus using Flash. So basically I want to embed flash in the Java swing application such that when the user clicks a button in the flash menu, the menu will pass a command to the Java Swing application and vice-versa.
I am looking to use Flash this way, because using Flash we can create really good looking and smooth menus as opposed to Java Swing. I also want a solution which will be platform independent.
Please let me know how to do this. Atleast give me some pointers or website tutorial which will guide me in this.

I cannot, however, figure out how to get point data out of the host variable spgeom. If I prepare code analagous to the other types in the geometry structure, I get an error. I can see that sdo_point is different because it is a struct within the geometry definiton of typedef OCIRef but my knowledge of C is sufficeintly weak that I cannot figure out how to get sdo_point into C host variables. Some sample code for getting the sdo_point data would be greatly appeciated.

To get point data from geometry column use following

How to incorporate live tiles into a Project Siena app (kinda)

I have been playing around with getting some live tiles into my project siena app (Astronomy Action Centre), and at last I have managed it.
What I did was as follows
Publish your app as normal and import it into Visual Studio
When you have it imported paste this code into the init.js file. I pasted mine into the following location of that file. Near the top of the file (just before the var statements)

Now save and run your app, if you browse to your Start menu and pin your app you should see the live tiles updating.
the caveat is that you have no control over the layout of the tiles, it seems to work best in wide and square format, the large tile updates but keeps repeating the same news.
So there it is live tiles on a project siena app.

If you aren't going to use a live tile on an actual website, you don't have to use buildmypinnedsite dot com.
Here is a template. If you have multiple REST/RSS sources, you can use different sources for each of the 5 items that are cycled. They can be from different sites. You need to check if images in the feeds are enclosures. If they are, then the feed won't
work properly. You can use text and image based feeds or text only, just don't use any that have enclosed images. Here is a template you can copy and paste. replace the red text with your own customized information.

How can I embed ical into my webpage

Is there an easy way to embed my iCal calendar into my webpage? I already know it can be done using Google Cal but I stopped using Google Cal.

I don't believe this can be done directly from iCal. A work around might be to save it has a .pdf file and put that in the site. Or save and upload it to Google Calendars and then insert it into the site with the supplied code. There is software that will sync iCal with Google, but I'm sorry, I can't remember what it's called.

How do I embed flash movie with detection

Hi - I want to embed a movie below a banner image in a web
page. I want to use flash detection so that the right player is
used. I've got Flash professional 8 so it spits out an HTML page
with the flash detection script written to it. In the body section
of the HTML is a <script> tag with the document.write called
if the detection is succesful. What I've tried to do is put my
banner image in a div above the script tag. This seems to work in
Firefox but gives me a tiny little stretched banner image and a
tiny little stretched flash movie when I try the page in IE7.
I've attached my HTML below. Why is this happening?

I found the answer - I was using dynamic positioning of
elements in a javacript file and was using
document.documentElement.clientHeight to get the clientheight. IE7
no longer recognises this and has started using the standards
compliant document.body.clientHeight.

My guess is that the file needs to ALREADY be on the server, but then I thought if that was the case, does the embed code have to have a folder reference? You don't import, you just open the library with the new app.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

Embedding Flash into a Flash page

Hey all...my first post here.
I've recently learned Flash and have had pretty good success figuring out challenges that come up...however I am stuck on one now and am looking for help.
I am designing a site for a music project that I manage. The band also uses another free site, Reverbnation, for promotions and such. The site provides a mailing list function, and you can embed an already provided "widget" onto your HTML web page that will automatically add people to your e-mail list if they choose to sign up.
The problem I am having is that the page the widget is going to be on is now all Flash. I can't figure out how to get the widget into the Flash page. The Flash page itself is really nothing elaborate.
Here is the code for the widget that they provide:

your published swf will be embedded in an html file. add your widget code to that html file.
you can use html, styles, divs etc to position the swf and widget.
or, if you want to incorporate that widget within your swf, you might be able to load

To run a flash file you will definetely need a platform for which you need a shockwave player or a simple browser window. From webdynpro, the purpose of making it run through a IFrame is at runtime, the frame acts as a window for the flash file to run. Hence its the direct option of running it. Otherwise, you need to use a external window to invoke it seperetely in a browser window to run the file.
If you have any specific issues, do let us know, or else its the best option @!
