QT 7.1.6 broke playback

Anyone find a fix?

Same here. It seems to have something to do with interactions between the new Quicktime 7.1.6 and the new Flip4Mac 2.1.1.70 which contains the new application WMV Player 2.1.1.70. In my case, the sound and video starts up but the video freezes somewhere in the middle of the movie though the sound continues. Unfortunately, this happens even with short movies that were recorded before the above programs were updated. It may even interfere with sending movies via email.
My movie color has not been affected.
MacFixit published a so-called "cure" having to do with removing plug-ins but it did not help me. Removing preference files also does not help.

Itunes 10.6.1(7) broke playback on my apple tv 2, when trying to play moveis/tvshows it plays fine for a few minutes then picture freezes and i get a message that an error accured, try again later.( in swedish it say's: Ett fel inträffade när innehållet lästes in. försök igen senare)
it has worked flawless up intill i installed 10.6.1(7) today.
anyway to rollback to previous version intill apple fix this?

To add, I did a reboot on my iPad and it still poses the same problem. Help please...

7.1.6 broke playback

Hi all,
I have a user (I'm an I.T. technician) who upgraded from 7.1.5 to 7.1.6 (already on 10.4.9), and now Quicktime won't playback properly. After 20 seconds or so, the video freezes, though the audio continues. I've looked around and can't find a way to revert back to the prior version. Anyone have any suggestions?

there's certainly something wrong here. i am unable to view my (self-created) enhanced podcasts on any platform, with any browser. i appreciate all the hints given above, but none have worked for me.
to test the "7.1.6 break theory" i viewed the enhanced podcasts on a 10.4.9 iMac w/7.1.5 (safari); no problem. i then updated the quicktime to 7.1.6 and now none of the enhanced podcasts work. it displays the start of the podcast for about 1/2 of a second, then i get the all-too-familiar (at this point) question mark in the qt logo.
the windows boxes merely report an "internal server error" (which varies in number depending on browser).
what do we do now?

Quicktime broken after 7.1.5 update

After updating to 7.1.5, if I go to a Quicktime link, say at the Apple movie trailers, the playback control bar pops up in the center of where the movie image should be, and the movie never starts to download.
Any ideas on how to fix? Dumping the plist file was all I've tried.

So this seemed rather strange. Figured I'd try it anyway since I've been trying to figure this QT issue for a few days. I've tried a number of previous suggestions including trashing Library files, updating permissions, reinstalling the QT update, even reinstalled the OS 10.4.9 update directly from the Apple web site.
Launched the Stickie program and then relaunched Safari. Went to the Apple QT movie trailer page and ran a trailer...and it worked!! Ran without any freeze-up or audio problem.
I then closed the Stickie program and have run 5 different movie trailers and all of them have worked without any problems! Is that really odd or what?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that when I reboot this "fix" really sticks.

Why won't iTunes 11 play movies earlier version did??

Sometime in the last 12 months or so an iTunes update broke playback of alot of my m4v/mpeg4 movies.
Earlier versions of iTunes played them fine played. (iTunes 11.3.1.2 does not)
QuickTime Player v7.7.5 plays the movies fine.
VLC v2.1.5 plays the movies fine.
Just iTunes will not play the movie, any longer, on my Windows 7 PC.
This also presents a problem for playing the movies via Apple TV - these movies used to be watchable on my lounge TV... no longer; I suspect iTunes isn't opening the movie to pass it to the appleTV (because I first became aware of this issue when I couldn't have a movie night on appleTV shortly after an iTunes update).
This seems to be a fault in iTunes initial opening of movie files - as I say QuickTime Player happily/easily plays the movies when they are manually opened with it.
Please fix, so the Apple ecosystem I've sold the family on is functional!!!!

Whilst it's possible there's some obscure setting somewhere, I _really_ doubt it.
My Apple history dates back to a, then current, Mac+ and I currently do embedded [Android] fw development... so this is more of a bug report than flailing user.

Ics broke bluetooth to auto for calls and audio playback

After upgrading to ICS (4.0.4) on my RAZR MAXX, I can no longer maintain a bluetooth session with my car and the audio playback is not working at all. The connection begins and drops after less than 1 minute. This cycle repeats. Calls and audio worked with the same car configuration in Android 2.3.4. After a long search on the net I learn that this is a common problem. Has anyone heard about a patch or work around? I tried disabling wifi - no joy.

I have the same problem with my DROID RAZR. I use a Plantronics Pro+ headset and regularly have hour long conference calls. I had no connection problems prior to ICS. When I upgraded to ICS, the Bluetooth connection started dropping. It will drop then reconnect, then drop, then reconnect, every couple minutes. I end up holding my phone to one ear with the Bluetooth on the other, the call rotates between them. VERY ANNOYING. UNACCEPTABLE. I tried a second Bluetooth headset (also Plantronics Pro+). it worked for about 2 days, then had the same problem.
From reading various postings, I believe this is a problem with ICS and the Bluetooth connection. Nothing to do with what type of headset, automobile, etc. It may be only those of us that had Android 2.3.4 and upgraded to ICS.

ITunes movie full-screen playback broke with a recent update

A few months ago Apple pushed out an update to iTunes. After they did all of my purchased movies (and newly purchased videos) stopped playing properly in "fullscreen" mode. Instead of being full-screen, the iTunes window goes full-screen but the movie itself is 640x480 dead in the middle.
This is horrible.
I've complained to Apple. They say to try Quicktime player. That worked ! I get full-screen. But why is iTunes broken? I can't figure it out.

On Windows XP, the preferences are probably located in the registry (DISCLAIMER: I do NOT know what I'm talking about here, and you should not poke around the registry unless you are comfortable doing so). That said, try the following...
a) log onto your account that repros the problem
b) Start->Run, type "regedit"
c) using the tree on the left side, find an entry for iTunes under
HKEYCURRENTUSER. Do not mess with any entries under the other
top-level nodes.
d) Assuming you found the entry under
+ HKEYCURRENTUSER
+ Software
+ Apple
+ iTunes
Use the File menu to export the iTunes node to a REG file and save
the file to the desktop so you can get back to your current settings
if the rest of these instructions do not solve your problem. If you
can't find the iTunes node manually, you can try searching for it
using the FIND (CTRL+F, I think). Again, be careful to NOT mess with
any iTunes nodes that are not under HKEYCURRENTUSER. If you still
can't find an iTunes node, then iTunes probably doesn't use the
registry to store it's preferences and you're back to square one.
e) Delete the iTunes node
f) launch iTunes to see if the problem still occurs. If it does, delete
the iTunes node again and double-click the REG file you saved in step (d)
to return your settings to what they were before. If the problem goes
away, then you're probably done, but expect that iTunes has otherwise
returned to its default settings.

Kernel 3.19.3-3 broke video playback

Full system update (pacman -Syu) still has the problem. Backing out just the kernel to 3.19.2-1 (the most recent package I have on hand) fixes it.
The desktop looks fine, but any video I try to play (I've tried files that use a dozen different codecs) in VLC or mplayer is just a black window (sound works).
I'm using the GPU in the Haswell 4770K (i915 driver). My desktop is 3-head 1600x1200 (total of 4800x1200).
Any ideas? A quick google didn't turn seem like many others are having this issue. Anyone else have a similar setup?

Software Update Broke All Sound Playback

I just ran software update last night. Today I turn on my Mac and there is no sound from any applications. It's not the volume sliders, they are all fine (and enabled, not grayed out). There is no red light inside my headphone jack. Pretty much everything seems fine, but there is no sound.
How can I roll back these system updates? Or fix the problem? This is really lame...

I just fixed it and here is how I did it.
I went to Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup
Open the Audio Devices window if it didn't open automatically. (Window -> Show Audio Window)
Some application had set my default output of audio to Soundflower (16ch). What I did to fix the issue was to click on Built-in Output, then to click the gear at the bottom of the screen and select:
"Use this device for sound output"
and
"Play alerts and sound effects through this device"
That worked for me! Hope it helps someone else.

ITunes 11.0.2.26 hesitates every 10 secs of playback

I have just discovered while listening to iTunes that just about every 10 seconds there is a annoying hesitation in the playback. I do not see anybody else compaining about this. Can someone give me an idea what to do to resolve this?

Some feedback I hope helps. Sometime in past 3 weeks playback from itunes via wifi bose soundlink speaker began cutting out 1-2 seconds every 30 seconds. This drove me crazy and it did not help that my wife started to make fun of my fancy IT / AV setup. Certainly sounds like a similar problem. I read through this postings and appreciate the tips so want to summarize how I was able to solve my problem.
In short I finally broke down and called apple support and per suggestion of apple support completely uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling solved the problem. No need to read further unless you interested in the voyage.
First I host my mainline itunes on a PC W7 pro 64, 8 GB ram, 8 cores and all media stored on network attached storage device, all network switches gigabit. Even when heavy use on this PC it runs cpu <20% and network traffic <10%
When I decided to tackle this problem the troubleshooting pointed towards my watchguard XTM router and access point (AP200). I opened a case and began a deep dive into that configuration. Through many steps of troubleshooting some of which I have summarized below I just happened to play the music directly on my PC that hosts my main itunes library (I rarely playback on the PC) and heard the skipping. That told me all my efforts looking at the networking and Watchguard AP etc were off base as the problem was directly on the PC. I googled up and down looking for a itunes expert for hire but for some reason none to be found (business opportunity for contractor paid by hour with remote support / teamview / gotomeeting / etc). So I called apple and although the conversation took a good while to explain they did suggest the uninstall. Normally I am skeptical of this type of suggestion but the apple guy was confident and convincing (helps he was US based ).
Now I was very nervous about the process to uninstall and reinstall. I have a HUGE itunes database with 500+ albums and 100s of movies etc. I have spent lots of time cleaning up and customizing the metadata on my music and movies so it presents in the remote and ATV in an organized manner. I did not want to lose all this work as this data is contained in the library file. Also I store all my media on a NAS which is a completely separate device from the PC hosting my mainline itunes and the library file also contains all the pointers to the NAS location. It is worth noting that if you had to rebuild the library file you can unknowingly create a big duplicate problem with your music (learned this when I discovered 5-10 copies of each song and had to clean that up long time back) So bottom line it was not an option to just rebuild a new library file. I needed to salvage my existing library file if possible. My first step was to see if I could verify if the fix was going to work before I touched my mainline itunes. Fortunately I have a second PC and here are the steps
-completely removed all previous traces of any apple software including apple mobile device components, quicktime, bonjour etc (all in programs and features). Reboot PC.
-Did a clean install directly of the website taking all default suggestions from the itunes setup.
-started itunes and did basic itunes settings to match my mainline ..itunes ..
-closed itunes
-copied the library files ..from mainline PC there are 4 files under user/my music/iTunes/ .. (iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Music Library.xml) . copied and replaced the files on the new pc in same location ..
-started itunes .. all my music was there and with all my metadata / organization
-key test .. playback directly on the new PC via attached speaker (ie attached to sound port on that PC) .. no skips
-then turned on sharing and streamed to the wife bose sound link speakers .. several hours no skips
-repeated the steps for my mainline PC .. problem solved .. with no loss of data .. has been running perfectly for days with no skips or loss of metadata
Other troubleshooting steps I tried before doing uninstall / reinstall (nothing below helped)
-change sound settings on itunes .. direct sound v windows audio session, changed sampling, changed bitrate playback, all other check boxes on playback tab
-previously had quicktime installed .. changed setting there to correspond to same changes on itunes in case there was some interaction or dependency .. many permutations .. nothing had any affect
-turned off outlook and other network devices .. I use exchange so there is some constant checking in
-Watched network traffic via resource monitor .. this breads down network and CPU activity by process etc
-added separate AP and retested

Any Help For Yet Another HDCP For Playback/Netflix Problem?

I have a very complex set-up and had no problem streaming until the other night and I have tried every single solution I can find online under the sun so that is why I am posting here.
I have a Pioneer Receiver that I used a Terk Smart HDMI 3 x 1 Selector with and was able to stream Netflix with no problem.
This is how everything used to be set up:

Now here's the rub: I also have a PS3. I used to unplug either the ATV or Mini whenever I wanted to use it and I got tired of switching out so I bought a Monoprice 8 x 1 HDMI Selector. The logic here being that I would have more than enough HDMI inputs to plug in everything.
When I first hooked up the Monoprice, I hooked the OUT from it into the Bluray IN on the Pioneer and then hooked all of the HDMI cables from all of the various electronics into the INputs on it. Tested all of them to see that it autoselected whatever I had chosen and even was able to stream on NF.
This is how I have everything hooked up now:

Now all of a sudden yesterday I went to stream NF via the ATV and I got that "This content requires HDCP for playback" error.
I did everything I could think of and also tried all of the suggestions I could find on the web. I had already switched out the HDMI cables as I had bought new ones when I got the Monoprice. So I hooked the Terk back up thinking it would "fix" things. No dice. I put the old HDMI cables back on. No dice. I have it hooked up now with the old HDMI cables and still no dice. I unplugged everything and let it sit thinking I could force a new HDMI handshake. NF started streaming for 5 seconds and froze -- and then the error message.
I also have a Scientific Atlanta DVR that the ATV is plugged into that the HDMI 2 of the Panasonic TV is connected via HDMI. The Panasonic TV isn't "old" as I think I got it in late 2009 or late 2010, as it has more than enough HDMI inputs, component, and also a PC connection -- in case someone wanted to suggest the TV wasn't capable of handling the hookups. The ATV is running the latest version of the software.
This is really frustrating since it worked with no problem from the day I got the ATV and now after upgrading the switcher to get more HDMI inputs, everything went kaput.
And I just don't know what to do.
I'm not sure if having everything being dependent upon the Panasonic TV being powered on is affecting things, but it never affected things when I was using the 3 x 1 HDMI switch. When I wanted to use the ATV, I'd press the Bluray input on the Pioneer receiver, hit the ATV remote and it would come on. Click into NF and voila: streaming with no problems.
Currently, I still do the same thing -- and I can listen to the radio, stream in iTunes Match on the ATV. It's just the NF issue that's really beyond me. The only thing I can think of to try is to maybe put the DVR in the surge protector slot so that it has to be powered on so that everything else will power up instead of the TV?
I'm hoping someone has a suggestion that involves something other than restarting/restoring the ATV, or unplugging things for 30 seconds because I have tried everything I've come across. I just don't know what to do but I really would like to be able to use NF on the ATV because I like the fact that it plays in Dolby, and I really don't want to have to go back to the PS3 to utilize that feature.
In the meantime, I guess I will switch the DVR on the surge protector with the TV and see what happens if I change the way things power up in the chain.

I am at a loss. I thought I had a micro USB cord but since I didn't, I wasn't able to downgrade the software.
I did a complete restore for kicks.

TV Shows and Movies because I tested both watching previews and they streamed perfectly
I've changed the settings on the ATV until I'm blue in the face and this is what they are currently:
Dolby - Auto
Audio Output - Auto
HDMI Output - Auto
TV Resolution - 1080p HD - 60Hz -- and yes I've had it set on both "Auto" and 720p HD - 60Hz and neither stopped the error once it started happening
All of the equipment is HDCP compliant as I checked
The cable between the TV and ATV
The 8 x 1 switch box
Panasonic TV specs -- it is HDCP compliant as I said in my 3rd post (according to the manual)
The Pioneer Receiver (for good measure)
I have no idea of what to do other than to hope that Apple does something with the next update to restore everything, as this HDCP issue is really beyond annoying and it's clear 5.2 broke something. In the meantime, I really am open to suggestions to try something else other than smashing the ATV with a hammer

What other information is necessary?
I've been working on a video for the last couple of months, and have about 15 minutes of footage. Recently when I opened up the project to work on the last 25% the playback feature stopped working (no sound or audio when play is pressed). I noticed that background rendering was disabled so I re-enabled it, but I am still facing the same problem. I've saved my video in several formats including AVI in hopes that I will be able to finish it at a later date. I am only slightly technical, so please don't waste your time correcting me (I'm sure I've made several mistakes and provided information that is not pertainent to the issue at hand)! Just looking for help, so I can finish my project.

Great news, and actually much better than I had expected - kudos to Lenovo!
Video (and audio) drivers are very fragile things. In regular computing, they are only moderately important, but with programs, like PrE, 3D and CAD apps., the program must interface very deeply with the video driver, and it must be stout. There are many things that can "break" the video driver, and a common one is OS updates. Most Windows OS's are still set on the default update options - fully automatic. This takes place behind the scenes, and the user is seldom aware that the OS has been updated at all. Suddenly, a program like PrE stops working correctly, while most other programs seem to be just fine. Immediately, the user looks to PrE, which is **** just what it did before the OS update - running perfectly fine, but between the program and the Video sub-system, that driver has broken, so things go wrong.
One workaround is to use a System Restore Point, from before the OS update that broke the driver, BUT OS updates are a very, very good thing. Catch-22, if one cannot install an updated driver, that works well with the update status of the OS.
Glad that you found a better solution - new and improved video driver. While you are at it, you might want to check for a new audio driver too, as they are just as fragile, and can bring PrE to its knees.

I've just installed iTunes 11, and now my playback shuts off on Apple TV. Suggestions to fix?

I've just updated my iTunes to 11, and now my playback shuts off on Apple TV after a few songs. My Apple TV is up to date and everything worked just fine yesterday. I've restarted everything and think I've checked all settings that might affect the shutdown. This is very frustrating as I was putting together a presentation for a party. I'm on Mountain Lion (all up to date too).
Help, please. I'm out of ideas and ready to reach for the hammer.

Round number 2. Updated iMac and Windows7 PC to iTunes 10.5.1 (42). Home sharing broke again! Verified working prior to my update on Windows PC and Apple TV2. Tried a lot of things to make it work, but here is what I had to do:
1) Rebooted my router (all but ATV2 is wired ethernet).
2) De-authorized/Re-authorized both iMac and Windows PC; rebooted both
-- This got home sharing to work between both computers; ATV2 still was not working despite turn off/on home sharing, reset, change IP, etc.
3) On iMac, turn home share off, then back on. Now all three working.
In the end, I might have just tried step 3 (turn off/on Home Share on iMac), but now I've no way to verfiy -- that is until the next new release of iTunes.
Apple -- this is crazy. I enjoy your products but having to run through these steps every time is a turn off.

Nokia Lumia 1520 Video recording/playback issues.

I seem to have issues with video recording. Video seems to have some pause "still" effects when taking video and playback in phone shows those stops very clearly as it freezes for while and jumps many seconds forward.
When I play same file in PC with video player the video plays better but still I can manage to see some small Glitch in video like my phone did stop recoding for some frames. I have been using SD card and phone memory and both have same problem.

No solution so far and it is my wife phone so haven't have much reason to play with it find solution. She only takes photos anyway.
This current phone has already broke down 2 sim cards also or wireless charging did brake those not sure after stop using wireless charging 3rd sim card have been fine.
someday when have I feeling to take this phone to warranty service I will try wireless charging again.

DAQ Record and Playback

I have a PCI-6534 DAQ card in a PC and I am trying to record and then playback some motor encoder signals. I used DAQAssistant to create the code and then I have tried to modularize it a bit. I'm guessing I broke something, but I am not sure what.
My problem is that the playback refuses to work and gives me various errors depending on which "lines" parameter I pass in. The lines parameter I use is the same on the recording functions and the playback.
I started by first trying to record on Dev1/port0/lines0:2. Recording worked fine and it produced the required datafile. When I go to play back the file, I get the message
Partial use of physical lines within a physical port is not supported by this device, given the requested Sample Timing Type.
Consider specifying the entire port and tristating the lines you do not want driven.
Property: SampTimingType
Requested Value: Sample Clock
So then I go back and record on Dev1/port0. Again it records fine, but on playback with the same device, I get...
Requested creation of a separate channel for each line is not possible when a digital port is specified as the physical channel.
Specify a range of digital lines, such as "Dev1/port0/line0:7", as the physical channel.
Physical Channel Name: Dev1/port0
HoKay, so I go back again and record on "Dev1/port0/line0:7". Again it records fine and on playback I get...
When writing, supply data for all channels in the task. Alternatively, modify the task to contain the same number of channels as the data written.
Number of Channels in Task: 8
Number of Channels in Data: 1
I am at a loss as to why I can record so easily, but playbacks are a b***h. Help!

I think I figured it out.
When I created the DAQ VIs using DAQAssistant, I did so by selecting individual lines. When I changed things around to get playback to work, I simply changed the text field going into the lines to be "Dev1/port0". I could never get this to work.
I went back and regenerated the playback VIs using DAQAssistant, this time specifying a port output (instead of lines). This time it read and played the data fine.
The moral is that if you use DAQAssistant to generate VIs, be very careful when you change the parameters on those VIs.
