QT Pro and iphoto

I have QT Pro which plays my MPGs that I have in my iPhotos. Can I use QT Pro to convert these MPGs so that they will play properly in my iMovies?

Can I use QT Pro to convert these MPGs so that they will play properly in my iMovies?
Not if they contain audio. MPG (MPEG-1) files are playback only compatible with the QT Player (Pro is not required). Unfortunately, QT is based on a frame-to-frame, temporal synchronization engine while "muxed" content like MPEG-1/2 files are spatially synchronized. While QT Pro will convert the video properly, it will not retain the audio content. Your best option would be to use an MPEG-based, third-party application like MPEG Stremclip (free) here. It will convert you MPEG-1 files to various QT compression formats and retain the audio. Be advised, however, that if you ever need to convert MPEG-2 content, this application requires that the QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20) be installed.

  • Macbook Pro and iphoto/imovie updates

I have a new macbook pro and iphoto and iMovie will not update.  The error message states that the apple id is incorrect, but it's the only one I've ever used.  How can I update?

If it's new, I'm assuming you are running Mountain lion (10.8.x)?
Either click this icon in your dock, in the launchpad, or in your Applications folder:
Go to your Purchases (you will need to sign in) and see if those apps are listed there.

  • Iv'e just bought a MacBook Pro and iPhoto says that  it can't be opened because it is either damaged or incomplete.

My new MacBokk Pro has iPhoto which does not work because it is either damaged or incomplete.
I've tried to download the latest update 9.3.2. for it but it then says that I need 9.0. before the upgrade works. I've done that but it now says I need an earlier version to make 9.0. work.
How far back do I have to go and where do I get it from?
I've tried to to migrate the old version of Iphoto '08  7.1.5. across from my old MacBook but I'm told that it is no longer supported.
I'm now stuck with an old machine with a fractured screen and a bent body and a new machine that won't (as yet) take new installations.
Anyone out there able to help?

Go to the App Store and sign in with your Apple ID
    Click on the Purchases List
    Accept the apps offered
You can then re-install from there.

  • Go pro and iPhoto problem

I can import go pro videos in to iPhoto and play them. I can see them in the iPhoto window under last import. However, when I subsequently import new photos the go pro videos disappear. Where do the videos go? How can I retrieve them?

Where are you seeing them in iPhoto the first time?  In the Last Import album?  They will be replaced there by the next import.  Go to the Events mode and check the View ➙ Sort menu to see how you have the Events sorted.  Selecet Sort ➙ By Date ➙ Descending so that the newer imports are at the top.  That should let you find the previously imported videos.
Or you an do a search using the magnifying glass at the bottom of the window and a file name of the video.  Once it appears Control (right) - click on it and select "Show Event" from the contextual menu.

  • Can't read jpgs from macbook pro and iphoto on my pc

help.... in my iphoto library i highlighted the pictures i wanted to export.... i hit file, export, chose jpg, chose the folder to drop them in and hit ok...... everything seemed ok, but when I connected the external hard drive to my pc I could not view the jpgs...... all of the files had a period in front of the file name ( .090106sportevent1)
Please, what am i doing wrong?

For some reason iphoto creates a small 4kb file of each jpg and puts it along with the jpg file into the folder you have chosen.
What’s happened there is that the Windows machine is having trouble dealing with the structure of the Mac files.
Although deprecated now, Mac files can have two Forks - the resource and the data fork. Windows boxes can’t dal with the resource fork and show it as a separate file. The solution, when this occurs, is to run something like The Grim Ripper over the files after you export. This will strip the resource fork and therefore solve the issue.
It will make no difference to the display of the actual files.

  • 2007 Macbook Pro suddenly coding over files, pictures, deleting itunes and iphoto albums, after it had been dropped in late november 2010. Apple specialists say they cannot find anything wrong. HELP!

I have a Macbook Pro, the last generation, not the most recent one. It fell about 2 feet in late November 2010 and had the screen and logicboard replaced right after. A day or two after that, I started to notice that my word documents, pictures files, pdf files, itunes library and iphoto library were coded over and deleted out of nowhere. When I click on it, it says it is not a compatible format or cannot be read, etc. However, this doesn't happen all the time and not with every file. I could open a new word document and begin it today, and tomorrow it will not be retreavable, but I have a document on my desktop that has been there since January and can still be opened, so this happens without warning.
I have taken it in to the Genius Bar at my local Apple store several times with this problem, and they say they cannot see anything wrong with my computer. On my most recent visit, the lady told me to buy an external hardrive, transfer everything onto it, then do a complete clean out of my computer and reboot it I guess. If it doesn't continue, then that might have been the problem, but if it does continue, then it is obviously not that. I am really confused and I don't know if I should trust that this is the problem or just go ahead and buy a new computer all together. I don't have applecare anymore.
    Help me!!! I am desperate.

Does your MBP still have its original hard drive? If so, it may have started to go south. The average useful life of a notebook drive is 3-5 years, and if yours is the original, it would be about 4 years old. The drop could also have affected it.
It might be worth booting from your install disc and repairing your boot disk. It sounds like you could have some directory issues. Repair until there is nothing left to repair. If Disk Utility cannot repair the drive, you will need a stronger utility like Disk Warrior or possibly a new drive.
It also sounds like you may have some software corruption, which can happen if you have hard drive problems. Have you tried reinstalling the OS? You would want to make a backup first on an external drive and then use the archive and install feature and then update the OS.
You might want to download and run SMART Utility:
    http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php
You can download the demo and run it several times for free. SMART Utility seems to be somewhat more critical than Disk Utility, and may be able to detect impending drive failure sooner.
If the drive checks out OK, then you can follow the advice you got from the genius and make a clone of your boot drive using Super Duper or carbon Copy Cloner on the external drive. You could boot from the clone you made and see how your Mac does when booted from a different drive. If all is good, you can reformat the internal drive and clone back to it.
If all you need is a replacement hard drive, then your Mac is likely worth fixing. I too have a 2007 MBP, and I replaced my hard drive right after Applecare expired, as the drive started to fail a week after Applecare ran out. I put in a Western Digital 500 GB 7200 RPM Scorpio Black, and have been running on it ever since. I have also upped my RAM to 6 GB and my OS to Lion. Not all the features of Lion work on a 2007 MBP--the trackpad does not support Gestures, and AirDrop is not supported. Even so, I expect this Mac to last me a few more years.
iFixit has instructions for replacing the hard drive, and OWC has both good RAM and kits for hard drive replacements. My gut feeling is that your hard drive is behind the weird symptoms you are experiencing.
If you are ready for a new computer, by all means get one--there are some great choices. However, you should be able to fix your old Mac for not very much money and get some more use out of it.
    Good luck!

You may need many other updates to retain compatibility with Lion. I suggest you reinstall Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, you will need to erase the drive first. Be sure to backup your data if you haven't done so already.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Upgrading from iPhoto 8 to iPhoto 9 requires a purchase. There are two ways to get to iPhoto 9:
    1 - purchase a copy of the iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com or eBay.com.
2 - if your MBP meets the requirements upgrade you system for free to Mavericks.  Then you can purchase the latest iPhoto version, 9.5.1, from the App Store.

  • TS3989 I have photo stream setup on iPhoto on my macbook pro and I just got 2 iPhones for my family and only one streams photos to iCloud photo stream.  Both iPhones have the same Apple ID and have Photo Stream turned on.  Shouldn't both iPhones stream ph

I have photo stream setup on iPhoto on my MacBook Pro and on 2 new iPhones that have the same AppleID as the MacBook Pro.  However only one iPhone will stream photos to iPhoto on the MacBook Pro.  All these devices were purchased in the last 2 weeks.  What setting is wrong?

Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
If this doesn't help you may need to reset photo stream. You can do this at icloud.com by clicking on your name in the top right corner and then the advanced settings in the pop-up dialogue box that appears.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

  • I own a MacBook Pro and an iMac. How can I copy my iPhoto library from my MacBook to the iMac?

I own a 13" MacBook Pro and a 27" iMac and I have different iPhoto libraries for each one of them.
How can I copy the iPhoto library from the MacBook to the iMac without losing the pictures I have on the iMac library?
Is it possible to merge the libraries?
Can I do this without using an external HDD? (e.g. connecting them through an ethernet cable?)
    Thanks for your help!

    1. By eirher a: renaming one of the Libraries or b: copying them to another folder
    2. If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
    3. Yes.
