QTSS broken on Yosemite

QuickTime Streaming Server 6.0.3 (QTSS) no longer installs on Yosemite.  Is there any way to fix this? This is the first new OS release that has failed to support QTSS immediately.

Yes, I was trying to install the open-source Darwin Streaming Server (DSS). 6.0.3
I get the exact same scenario. Package installs but the QTSS admin page doesn't load.
None of the services seem to startup at all.
Have you had any progress yet?
I did run the same package on Mavericks and everything worked great, so it seems Yosemite has broken something.

  • Boot Camp broken after Yosemite Upgrade

    Hi.
After upgrading my 2012 rMBP to Yosemite, my boot camp with Windows 7 stopped working. Specifically:
    - I could not see the Windows partition when holding down the alt/option key at startup
    - I could not see an option to startup with Windows in the boot camp assistant
    - I could not see the boot camp partition in disk utility: all I could see was a partition "disk0s4"
    - there appeared to be some unallocated space in disk utility between the Macintosh HD and disk0s4 partitions.
After searching the Apple Support forum I followed the advice posted by Loner T. In summary I confirm the following actions solved my problem:
    - running Test Disk,  and confirmed that in my case I had not lost data, and that the "MS data" partitions were still there albeit they were marked as "deleted". I used the "Analyse" option to list candidate partitions, and then the "p" option to list the files in the candidate partitions. In my case there was only one candidate "MS data" deleted partition where I could successfully list the files which I could recognise as being from my Windows file system.
    - from Test Disk, writing down the start and end sectors of my Windows partition
    - running Gdisk, and following the instructions posted by Loner T to
              1) replace the bad partition information, which required my start and end sectors I had written down from Test Disk, and (following reboot)
              2) replace the MBR information which set my boot camp partition as bootable.
I'm not overly tech savvy myself but was able to follow the instructions posted. I can't offer any further advice myself other than to say it worked for my problem and that I recommend reading the posts from Loner T to diagnose your problem and hopefully fix it.
Good luck to all boot campers out there.

  • Quicklook broken in Yosemite mail?

I just upgraded to Yosemite and it seems like Mail has taken a big step back in usability.
When a message has an attachment (e.g. a PDF), I can still double click on it to open the file.  However, Quicklook (on any of command-Y, command-space, or File->Quick Look Attachments) no longer works.  Highlight the attachment and hit any of those keys and nothing happens.  Also, command click no longer works either; no menu comes up on the attachment.   There seems to be no way to either quick look or open the menu on the attachment.
This seems like a terrible regression.  Is there some magic configuration setting somewhere that re-enables this?

    Hi howe.sc,
When I checked for how signatures in Yosemite work, I found this.
Mail (Yosemite): Include signatures in messages
Delete a signature from a message: Select the signature, then press the Delete key.
Replace a signature in a message: Delete the existing signature, then add a different signature.
That sounds similar to what you are describing.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • Time machine broken in Yosemite

When I enter Time Machine, I can scroll back in time, but if I click on a folder or file, the screen blinks and move to the previous day.  I can't select any folders or files.  It used to work fine before I upgraded to Yosemite.
I've tried verifying the Time Machine Disk, turning Time Machine on/off, rebooting, etc. It's very rare that I need to use Time Machine, but I really need to access a file from two weeks ago, and I cannot.  If I navigate to the backup using Finder, everything is there - it's just the Time Machine UI that doesn't work.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Exchange account setup is broken in Yosemite Mail

Trying to set up an Exchange account in Mail and it is not working. The auto discovery says server ("null") is not responding and I see no way to manually configure an Exchange account in Yosemite, so it is a bummer. Anybody else with this problem?
Outlook works fine  on the same computer.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I did not attempt to apply the solution because when I opened the computer today everything was magically working as it should.  (and yes, I had rebooted several times yesterday, to no avail.)  I guess thanks goes to the computer elves.

  • PPTP VPN is broken on Yosemite

Does anyone have a fix for PPTP VPN. Works great on another Mac running Mavericks right next to the Mac running Yosemite.
Created a PPTP VPN network setting same as the Mavericks computer, connecting to the same server at work (running Watchguard PPTP) and it never connects.

    Hi BW,
I do use DHCP on the client and I did try "Send all traffic...", it still never connects... I thought it was an issue with the password/handshake between Yosemite and the Watchguard (remote VPN server) firewall PPTP protocol... But now I see that a previously working (in Mavericks) PPTP VPN between my office computer and my home computer now refuses to connect. There is also a bug in the Yosemite (Show VPN in Apple Menu Bar) when you first try click connect to your selected VPN, it automatically thinks you're connected (but it doesn't do anything) so you need to disconnect then reconnect for anything to actually happen... Unfortunately, it still does not acknowledge the VPN, just says "A connection could not be established...". I going to try and packet sniff to find a solution and also try to use an L2TP, maybe that will work.

  • Preview PDF encryption is broken in Yosemite

I correct documents saved and distributed as PDF's. They contain personal information and have to be encrypted. In Maverick, and using preview, i could always print to pdf, choose to encrypt and assign a password. Then I could email the document. Now preview will not encrypt. He help command returned instructions to use the "export" command and then choose encrypt. The check box to activate encryption slightly darkens but does not √. Then saving the document does not produce a protected document.
This has been going on for some time and I had hoped todays update would correct this but it has not. Anyone have any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Messages broken in Yosemite 10.10.1 - Blank Screen

I've got issues with Messages not working after I logged out and tried to log back in again... all I see is a blank screen once I've entered my iCloud info. Worked perfectly before I logged out.
All Menu items are also greyed out so I can't get into the Prefs or Account settings.
Anyone else had the same issue?!?
This is all I see after logging in...
    And prefs etc...

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iChat.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Upgrade to Mavericks NOT Yosemite

    Hello All
How do I download the Mavericks update on to my macbookpro?
I have tried searching the appstore/update app but it does not show up, also searching on google results in a link (https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/os-x-mavericks/id675248567?mt=12) but following that link opens the appstore/update app and displays  an error message stating "Item not Available, the item you've requested is not currently available in the UK Store"
Do I need to go to an apple store and purchase physical upgrade medium (usb stick/DVD)?
Also at this point I am NOT willing to upgrade to Yosemite as it, at present, breaks both rEFIt and rEFInd (the boot managers I use) which would result in me having to carry 2 + laptops round with me (which is NOT something it want to do) to have all the OS's I need to have at hand available to me.
On that point does anyone know if apple's bootmanager will ever be updated to support linux?

Rather than AppleCare, try this number:
    Apple Software Upgrade Center
    (888) 840-8433
I also have a computer that I need to upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.  Mission Critical software is broken by Yosemite.
This is the problem with downloaded software, it makes it difficult to use earlier versions of applications and operating systems. In many ways, things were much easier when Apple sold their OS on a disk.  Just pop in the disc in your done !

  • Yosemite and Gmail

Since upgrading to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro w/retina I keep having issues with mail headers.  My incoming emails are showing with the "From" field showing a different name than that of the sender as well as a different email than would be correct for the erroneous sender or correct sender.  I.E., email in fact sent from Jan Brady, "From" field shows it was sent from Bart Simpson, and the email address it is being sent from is that of Jennifer Lopez.  That same email will show that, although it was in fact sent to me, it was sent by Katie Couric to email address for Beaver Cleaver.  I have tried every fix I could find online.  The specialists at Apple Care are stumped, we've even gone so far as to erase the OS and do a complete new re-install to no avail.
Anyone else experience this? Did you find a solution?

No solution here, but I have either the same or a similar problem. Apple Mail with Gmail (IMAP) used to work fine with Mavericks.
Now with Yosemite most emails load ok, but some show the spinning wheel and "Loading..." message forever. These messages never load.
I also have Thunderbird and it loads and shows these messages just fine. The messages that don't load in Mail are simple plain text messages so it's unrelated to complex attachments and such.
Clearly something is broken in Yosemite that wasn't broken in Mavericks.

  • Yosemite Mail Imap and Gmail

Since upgrading to Yosemite, Mail has been constantly synching with the gmail server - it may stop for a moment but starts right back up. I know this because I have the Activity window open. Consequently there is often a significant lag between clicking Send on a new message and it being sent, or new messages being downloaded.
    I've:
Zapped Pram, repaired permissions, disk is ok, Deleted the account, deleted all the accounts, rebooted, rebuilt mailboxes, everything I've read online in the last 2 weeks.
The only odd message I see in Console is the following and there is one for each folder.
implementation_added_client : failed to add client for path /Users/stoner/Library/Mail/V2/[email protected]/Vendors.mbox/CDW-MacWarehouse.mbox/60263398-70AA-40D0-A33C-4D27997F5A7B/Data
Can anyone offer any advice on what the problem might be and how I might fix it.
    Thanks,

  • Where is the 'Path' in Yosemite Dialogs?

In Mavericks or earlier, used to be you'd have the Path toolbar item in the Dialog toolbar if it was in your Finder toolbar. That seems to be missing /broken in Yosemite. There seems to be no way to display your current folder path (shortt of sort-of in column view, limited to a folder in the sidebar), and no way to navigate 'up' a folder anymore. Is there any way to get the Path (or even similar functionality) in the Dialog windows? I'm really stuck on how to navigate around anymore.

Thanks. Am trying to find the backup files. Assume new files will be entered by drag & drop into the directory in iTunes. A path to an apparent hidden folder can be found using my username. But to find what is actually backed up is still unknown because of the coded filenames. Viewing the sidebar or toolbar is worthless as no PDFs or my created iBooks are accessible. Apparently Apple thinks we users out here in the weeds have faith in hidden directories. But I have 299 teaching files on my iPad that I cannot afford to lose. The sync button at the bottom of the "books" page produces the sync bar action but no files come up in the dialogs.

  • Yosemite and Soundflower

Could anyone confirm that Soundflower seems to be broken under Yosemite? A couple of months ago I was successfully using it under Maverick with Quicktime to capture system audio when screen recording. I've now wasted too much time trying to do the same thing whilst using Yosemite.

  • Finder resizing is broken

Is Finder broken in Yosemite? Whenever I resize the window to my preferred size, after closing, the window will be back to whatever size and place Finder believes it should be, not where I need it. Any suggestions, like  YOSEMITE TEAM, FIX THIS ASAP?

I am having an issue with views as well. Location, size, list view columns, even views with 'always open in' selected get ignored. I have reinstalled os x clean in trying to get rid of this issue after deleting finder prefs, repairing permissions, and deleting all ds_store files via terminal. Nothing works. Interestingly, it seems sometimes finder refuses to create a ds_store file even when changing view options. Sometimes, the file is created but eventually ignored.
