Quadro k5200 vidoe noise in playback

Hey all, I'm working in Premiere CC 2014 (latest update applied) on a Windows 7 Pro machine with an Nvidia Quadro K5200 card that seems to be introducing very strange noise into my playback. This only happens when Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration is enabled. I do have the latest Nvidia driver (347.88) and I've tried rolling back to the previous version. No luck. This noise is usually green or red and made up of vertical lines. I've attached a screenshot of just color bars playing back so you can see what I'm referring to. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Vaughn

Solved! It was a bad NVIDIA card. I swapped it out and everything looks great.

  • Skips & Scratch Noises during playback ...

I am all of a sudden getting skips & scratch noises during playback on certain albums during playback on Itunes and it transferred over to my ipod ... What could be causing this and how can I get rid of it.  ( No it is not the CD it was burned from cause it sounds perfect playing on other devices)
thanks for any ideas or tips :-)

I have observed this with my 4th gen Nano. The sound is pristine through the headphone jack, but when connected via some (older) dock devices there are little bursts of static every few moments.
I have tried this with a Bose Sounddock and a Tivoli iSongbook. Same thing. The little static bursts are NOT repeatable (random), and do NOT appear in headphones. Most people would probably never notice this noise, especially if they play only rock music. Music with less percussive sound reveals the problem more easily.
The very same files played through the dock devices on my old 3rd Gen iPod sound perfect.
I was getting ready to ask Apple to exchange my Nano for another to see if that has any effect. Other than this issue, I love it and it works great.

  • New GPU Quadro k5200 installed and having problem with my AE, PPro CS6  not using the GPUs cuda.

Hi guys, I recently bought a workstation from BOXX tech with a new GPU Quadro k5200 installed in it.
I am having problem with my AE, PPro CS6 using the GPUs cuda.
I went to Nvidia Settings and use the specific App to select it to use GPU n- Quadro k5200. But still not working.
    Please help

If you edited the Cudatextfile in the Adobe Premiere CS6 directory correctly then the acceleration should be enabled. The only way it it's not is if you have the wrong driver for that version of Adobe or did not edit the text file with the exact name of the card. You can use the GPUsniffer in that same Premiere directoy with the command prompt to see the name the GPU should be listed as. The Ray Tracer file in AE has to be edited with the same listing.

have uploaded 15GB of music to my new nano - almost every piece of music has at least one tiny but annoying little tick / glitch / fluff noise in it somewhere. this never happened with my previous 4 ipods. help.

  • Playback of DPX sequences with quadro nvidia

I am considering buying a nvidia quadro 4000 for mac to playback my 1080P DPX sequences out threw a BlackMagic HD Extreme 3D card.
At the moment i can do it when i select 1/2 Resolution in playback from Premiere CS 5.5.
My disk speed is about 300MB pr sek so that is not the problem.
Does annybody know if the Quadro card will give me any aceleration with that and make me able to play it back at full res ??
    Thank you

    > Hardware acceleration doesn't make it easier to "play" any media files (assuming they match the sequence).  What get's accelerated are certain effects, scaling, deinterlacing, blending modes, etc.  But not simple playback.
    That's correct.
The graphics card doesn't help at all with decoding, nor does it help with reading the data off the disk faster. The reason that people talk about the GPU helping with formats like RED is that you are nearly always scaling RED footage down to use it (since you're almost certainly not using a 4K sequence, and you're almost certainly not previewing on a 4K monitor). The GPU helps enormously with scaling operations if you have a card that Premiere Pro can use for CUDA processing.
DPX image sequences are slow to preview for two reasons: data rate off of the hard disk and CPU speed for the relatively slow decoder. Fast disks and fast CPUs are what you need for fast DPX playback.

  • CUDA doesn't work with my Nvidia K5200 card

I have a dual Xeon system with 64 GB RAM and a NVIDIA QUADRO K5200 card.
I've been trying out the PREMIERE PRO CC 14 before making the purchase.
Have all the necessary drivers installed.
However, when I enable the mercury playback engine CUDA option, My source and preview windows go blank.
Tried this with 4K .R3D & .MXF files.
With the mercury playback engine software option, I'm able to get back the display but that's without using the acceleration. Please help.

  • SpeedGrade. Choppy EXR playback

We are having issues playing EXR's (B44) on our SpeedGrade systems... The playback is very choppy since it looks like it only buffers a couple frames at a time even when cache size is set to 80%. Once the sequence is fully buffered (played all the way through) it seems to play just fine the second time. Is there a setting I am missing to get it to roll through the sequence with no stoppage the first time? Is SpeedGrade converting these files to another format to RAM when caching? We have tested this on multiple machines and have seen the same problem on each.
The machine I am currently testing is a beast of a machine:
    Xeon dual 16 core
    124GB of RAM
    8GB Quadro K5200 GPU
    Windows 8
    SpeedGrade CC (2014)
This should be more than enough power to handle this if it were a hardware issue. This leads me to believe it is a software issue... Does anyone know if SpeedGrade is capable of real-time playback of B44 EXR's? If so, what are we doing wrong? Oh, we also set up a RAM disk to rule out a hard drive bottleneck.
Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

I've Done a lot of investigating into this and it is due to the way that the software team has implemented the decompress for exrs.
Currently I can cache uncompressed exrs in real time (24 + fps) and thus can watch a whole film in 1 go with no stutter. However this is not the case with any of the compressed exrs the max read speed i can get is 16 FPS
which suggests its to do with the decompressor .
It definitely not the hardware as on the same machine with RV i can get 24 fps+ with the same compressed files.
This has always been a problem since the Iridas Days I'm betting no one has looked that code block for loading exrs for years ( if it ain't broke, don't fix it)
More and More footage is coming through in HDR file types and exr is very popular in the VFX industry ... it would be well worth the software team sorting this out as more and more team i know are using RV as there main player now and this will start pushing them into the autodesk eco-system for solutions.
It would be interesting to see what the software teams view is on this

  • PCs not seeing Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)

We have 6 new HP HP Z840 running Nvidia K5200 but neither Prem Pro or AE 2014.2 are seeing the cards for cuda playback. We have installed the latest Nvidia drivers from HP support site. Any help would be appreciated. I tried editing the supported ray trace text file but the card was still not seen

What Nvidia driver version is installed?
Actually just ran into this with a client and a 670GTX card. For some reason the latest update in Premiere is not recognizing the Nvidia driver version/ GPU as acceleration enabled without the Cudatextfiles in the Premiere and AME folders. I had to copy them after updating to the latest Nvidia driver from the Creative Cloud version folder into the Creative Cloud 2014 folders for Premiere and AME. Something did not get compiled from the previous update right when they released this update since Adobe removed the  cudatextfiles themselves a few updates ago. The Quadro K5200 wont be on the text files copied from CC so you will have to add them to those. Adobe needs to look at this last update.

  • Stuttering Playback on iMac

I am experiencing stuttering playback and a strange noise on playback especially when unrendered h.264 is involved.  When it works, it works fine but occasionally this will happen:
    www.givethatmanajob.com/Public/issues/StutterPlayback_a.mov
I am suspecting my GFX card may be having trouble. All software is current. Any throughts?

Sometimes I do transcode, sometimes not.  The problem happens intermittantly regaurdless and I started to suspect that it was h.264 that was given issues most of the time so I shot some test video on an iPhone.  In the original post the video I linked to shows footage that was *not* transcoded.
Coming from an iPhone means nothing, especially as the iPhone, whatever iPhone this is, shoots non-standard video formats.
    An iPhone 4s shooting h.264 1080p .mov
In the world of tapeless media, this is pretty standard.
I understand that H.264 is a long GOP format, and not optimized for editing hence the desirability to transcode to an intraframe codec such as ProRes. However, one of the features of FCPX is that it is designed to handle h.264 footage because a lot of video is shot that way these days.
Coming from an iPhone does not mean nothing. It means the company that designed the software capable of editing h.264 also designed the software and hardware that shot the footage in h.264 format. It means we can expect that at least some thought was put into them playing well together. It means that if I shoot some test video on an iPhone, put in on an iMac running FCPX without filters I should be able to expect smooth playback all else being equal.

  • Strange clicking noise in standyby mode??

When i put my ATV into standby (thats all it seems to do, it wont turn off) the hard drive seems to stay active. I hear it wurring all the time. Then every 10 minutes or so, it clicks, almost like a little pop sound?? Does anyone else get this? Does anyone know what it is?

    Screemer wrote:
Oh right. interesting. Its a fairly loud pop, thats all that concerned me. A lot louder than any other hard drive noises.
my satellite set top box makes a fairly noticeable noise when the HDD goes to sleep. can't say i've ever heard my appletv do it, but it is the most likely cause of the noise.
if you are getting pops and abnormal noises during playback of sync'd content then i would start to worry.

  • Mercury: GTX 265 limitations vs Quadro?

    On this NVidia Blog here:
    http://blogs.nvidia.com/ntersect/2010/02/nvidia-quadro-driving-adobes-new-mercury-playback -engine.html
The author, in replying to a comment, states:
"•Specifically with the Mercury Playback Engine, when working with more than three layers, only Quadro will accelerate the entire project on the GPU. GeForce products will only accelerate layers 1 – 3, with any additional computation falling back to the CPU."
Can Dennis or anyone else from Adobe confirm that this is true? If so, is this due to the amount of memory on the GPU, or what?
    Cheers
    Mark

From a discussion I had at the Adobe Road Show about a year ago, the real limitation is not the amount of memory, but the number of cores or streams.
The 265 has 216, the 275 and 285 have 240 and the 295 has 480 (dual GPU). But it can't be simply that because the Quadro FX4800 ($1500) only has 192 and the FX5800 ($3000) has 240.  Interesting question.

  • S90 Static noise during video recording

Everytime I do video recording on my S90, I can hear static noise during playback.
Does anyone else face this problem? Is this hardware or software related?

    Update the S90 via OTA
Once that is done then try again. If problem persist then open dialer and press ####1111#.
In engineering mode, select back mic test in Item test. This will record via back mic and will playback. If you still hear static during this time then bring it to the service center.

  • Hissing noise when using in-ear earphones

I decided to upgrade from the Apple standard earphones of the Shuffle to some noise isolating in-ear earphones. Since the top range stuff (Shure, Etymotic) didnt quite fit into my budget I bought a pair of Creative EP-630 ($30) since I read some decent reviews on Amazon.
Now the earphones do live up to my expectations and deliver some great sound but the combination with the Shuffle gives me quite a headache. Plugging the earphones into my computer or some other (low budget) mp3 players they sound awesome, there is no background noise whatsoever and between songs or when you hit 'Pause' there is silence as it is supposed to be.
When I plug them into my shuffle however, it is far from the 'chrystal clear sound' that I expected. First, when you turn on the Shuffle, you hear two high pitched feeps, when you turn it of, you get a short stakkato of feeps that reminds me of the dial in procedure of old computer modems for the anlogue telephone line.
The biggest problem is of course the noise during playback, there is a constant high pitched, hissing, feeping background noise which becomes especially obvious during quiet parts, between songs and even if you hit 'Pause'! The same thing is described at the following site for another pair of (high quality) in-ear earphones:
    http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/15118/163354.html
The author there describes it as a 'grasshopper' noise, which is very much to the point when you hear it.
This is quite a disturbing result, considering all the raving reviews that Shuffle got for audio quality:
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1777890,00.asp
Now I am wondering if there is a faulty batch of Shuffles out there of which I happen to own one, or is it possible that there is a general problem of the Shuffle working together with these kind of earphones? The Shuffle using other earphones sounds great and my new in-ear earphones using other players also sound great... just the combination delivers unbearable audio.
I would appreciate any feedback, especially if anybody from Apple happens to come across this post!

Sounds like unless I misunderstand that it's only a problem with non standard headphones. What others are you using?

  • Total static with music playback since 7.6?

Just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem?
I installed the x64 version of 7.6 when it became available and now all I get is massive amounts of static type noise on playback with iTunes.
Music playback is fine with other apps such aas Media player etc...
