Quark 7 into ID CS3?
I'm using CS3, and a client sent me files in Quark Xpress. And I have to edit some of the layout. Could anybody please tell me how I can import the layouts into ID?
Thank you!
Jason,
I can tell you how to open Quark files in InDesign, but before I do, let me ask some questions.
Your client is working in XP. They want you to do some work on those files. Do they realize you're going to convert their work from XP to ID?
Do they understand that the text will most likely reflow?
Do they understand that you won't know if the text has reflowed?
Do you understand that if you do recognize that the text has reflowed, that if will be very difficult to make the text in ID match the text in XP?
Could this be a problem for your client?
Could this be a problem for you?
Then, if you do open the XP file in ID, what will you send the client? The ID file? A PDF? Or will you need to convert the file back to XP?
The first two are not as problematic as the last idea? If you have to convert the files back to XP, you are guaranteed for even more text reflow. And depending on what you have done to the file, even more things could be changed.
Now, if you still want to convert the XP file, use the Markzware product Q2ID. It's about $250, but worth it.

Importing Quark into Indesign cs3
I am importing a quark 4.1 file into indesign cs3 and it seems all the text frames I had tabs formated on didn't translate into indesign cs3 well. Specifically the last couple tabs were off making the text jump to the next line and moving other text over. Is there anything I could do to fix this isssue? I tried to export the text from quark to a word doc and then I tried to import that word doc into indesign and it still was messed up. Any suggestions?
My guess is that the tab settings are exactly the same as you had them
in Quark, but that the text is wrapping a little differently. Figure out
what's making the text a little bit longer in Indesign and fix that.
Conversions from Quark, or Pagemaker, or even from previous versions of
Indesign always involve some fixing up. For me, it's not worth
converting from Quark unless the document is being completely reworked.
Otherwise, I just leave it in Quark.

Import Quark 6 files into InDesign CS3?
I'm looking to import my old QuarkExpress 6 files into Indesign CS3. I saw that there is a plug in for about $199 that would allow Indesign to import these files. Is that the only way, or is there a cheaper way to make this happen?
Thanks for any input. This is not a design question. Please ask in the ID forum.

Copy/Paste images into Contribute CS3
We have been copying and pasting images from Word Documents
in Office 2003 into Contribute CS3 at my organization when
developing content. We have been able to copy/paste images from
Office 2003 and other programs like Paintshop Pro and SnagIt.
Since upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 all image copying and
pasting has stopped working.
Is there a known issue with this?
Does anyone else have Office 2007 installed and is able to
copy/paste images from a Word Document into a page in Contribute
CS3?It appears that the problem only occurs if you are copy and
pasting from something that hasn't been saved yet.
In Word I inserted an image from my hard drive and tried to
copy/paste it into Contribute and that failed. I then saved the
Word Document to my hard drive, re-opened it and was able to
copy/paste fine.
Power Point, Snagit and Pain Shop Pro appear to have the
problem even if it's been saved first.
I was able to copy/paste an image from a Word Doc and
PowerPoint into MSPaint just fine. I was also able to copy/paste
between Office applications with out any problem. Snagit could
copy/paste into Office just fine and MSPaint.
This problem appears to be specific to Contribute CS3 but
only from certain sources. -
Error when pasintg into DW CS3
Why do I keep getting this error when I paste text into DW
CS3.
"An error occurred while processing the input"
It doesn't matter what the source was, word document,
browser, notepad, etc. But it only does it in DESIGN view.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Houston.This also happened to me.
I went to "Commands" then " Manage Extensions".
I unchecked a few of the most recent installed extensions
then closed Dreamweaver. When I started Dreamweaver again, the
problem had been solved. I then rechecked the extensions that I had
unchecked to see which one was causing the problem. The problem was
still solved even with the extensions marked with a check.
I don't know what caused the problem. It appears that opening
up the Extension manager and un checking a few extensions,
restarting Dreamweaver, then re checking a few of the extensions
did the trick.
I can now copy and paste without it changing it to plain
text. -
Captivate 3 is wrong size when importing into Flash CS3
I've tried exporting, publishing etc. and no matter how I
try, when I import into Flash CS3 the size of the Captivate content
(background screens, in particular) are too small. For example, I
captured a 423x424 area for my Captivate project. When I import
into a Flash CS3 project with the same dimensions the Captivate
content (screens) are more like 203x203.5 and the mouse path and
slide context starting positions are upper left corner. I've tried
adjusting some of the importing settings but can't get the screens
the right size unless I resize each one manually - and I have
around 100. Any help greatly appreciated!
-ScottI am using captivate 3 and I get an error whenever I try to
export to flash cs3. unknown error.
why the hell doesnt Adobe say that flash is required to
export to flash BEFORE I buy the software? I am using my pc for
captivate, but am primarily mac based and was going to edit in
flash on my mac. but captivate didnt allow for me to export to
flash at all without any kind of flash installed. I installed a
demo version of flash, but the export is coming up with an error.
any ideas out there? adobe??? I'm currently using vista OS.
thanks in advance. r -
Problem with m2t clip import into AE CS3
I have footage that I need to use AE to stabilize, but something odd is happening on import. The footage is 24p/1080 HDV shot on a Canon XH-A1s, and I'm importing the native .m2t files into AE CS3. I have the AE project settings on 24 fps, but when I import the m2t clips, they shift to 44.96 fps for no apparent reason.
If I open up the Interpret Footage box for the imported clip, it's clear that AE *thinks* the footage is 44.96 fps. When I then change the frame rate to 24 fps in the Interpret Footage box, it still doesn't get it quite right (e.g., a shot that is exactly 15s00f long now reads as 14s22f).
I tried using 23.976 fps as the footage intepretation, but it didn't make a difference...not that I thought it would.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance,
StuYou need to convert that m2t footage to a different codec. AE 9 can't handle that kind of footage.
Since I'm a Mac guy, I like to go with Quicktime's PNG codec: it's lossless. -
Importing PDF into flash CS3 - Importer du PDF dans CS3
Hello.
Originally, i posted my question in french. So i will try to
convert in english, but my english is poor.
You can see the original in french, in back of this topic, in
bolded text
So, my problem : i can import some PDF files with Flash MX
2004, but i cannot do the same with Flash CS3.
When i import (import in the scene - Command+R) the PDF file
in Flash MX 2004, i got the vectorial logo correctly and the text
as a text.
But when i import (import in the scene - Command+R) the same
PDF file into Flash CS3, there is a problem. At start, i cannot
click the PDF file, i have to choose "all the files" to can click
it. Then i click it and there is a pop window appearing, talking
about "importing video". But my PDF is not Video… And at the
end, the result is a poor jpg image of my PDF, not the vectorials
that i would like.
So why the old Flash MX can do it easily, and the recent CS3
can not ?
What i have to do ?
Bonjour,
vidéo" me demandant de sélectionner si ladite vidéo
Il me demande
Os court !Is that really the end, doc ?

Inserting FLASH into Dreamweaver cs3
I am trying to build a VERY basic website in Dreamweaver. Using their single fixed column, centered, template, i would like to ad 2 flash items, a menu and small movie, in to he top of the column. (Both flash items are larger than the column with, if that matters,i was going to resizxe them nce i got this part of the cose correct)
For some reason the flash movie shows in my Dreamweaver preview, but not when i load it live online @ www.srg-buffalo.com.
The address i have used for the flash movie is: http://www.srg-buffalo.com/flash/header_v8.swf
The website is hosted at www.swq-buffalo.com, if you want to check out the source code.
I have no idea what I am doing wrong, i thought it was pretty simple, there is no flash block via my go daddy host.
How i inserted it via dreamweaver cs3:
Insert> Media> Flash.
URL= http://www.srg-buffalo.com/flash/header_v8.swf
What am i doing wrong?
Thanks for any help.Thank you,
That rung a bell.
I uploaded both saved .SWF documents to the Scripts directory.
There was also a Scripts dirrectory saved with index.html, in this directory was the AC_RunActiveContent.js file, any thoughts on that?
i uploaded it to scripts, along witht he others, and the space dedicatd to the flash events is there, but they are not showing.

Subject: Inserting FLASH into Dreamweaver cs3
When you insert the SWF, you shouldn't have to actual type anything - it's a browse and select process and will automatically enter the correct path to the SWF. Then you have to upload the page and the SWF file. This next part I think has changed in later versions of DW, but in CS3 I'm pretty sure the process will also create a folder named Scripts. This folder along with it's contents also need to be uploaded.

Png-24 import into photoshop cs3
Anyone know a way to import png24 into photoshop cs3 / cs4?
whenever i do it all i get is a solid transparency.
i want to be able to batch several icons. lowering them in image size.Does that remove the transparency or show the mask? The reason I ask is I have someone on another forum that is quite inquisitive. And would like to know how to do this. He states it is possible to do in AE so it should be possible in photoshop.
I currently only have CS3 but hopefully that changes next month.
The images that he needs this done on are renders from a 3d program. I assume he prefers png format even though it does support of formats including those that don't support transparency or an alpha. The thing is some images can take quite awhile to rerender.
The work arounds I told him about was to either
a)render just the background and place it on its own layer below the image. or
b)use a 3rd party program that does not support transparency or alphas like MSPaint.
I will forward your suggestion about CS5 though as I don't know what version he is using.
If anyone is interested in the other conversation you can find it here at http://www.spinquad.com/forums/showthread.php?29237-Photoshop-equiv-of-AE-s-quot-ignore-al pha-quot -
Video looks terrible after imported into Encore CS3
I have a great looking m2v file (for Blu Ray) that I compressed with Squeeze. After I import it into Encore CS3, it looks poor in preview. The clips starts off with white text on a black background. In preview mode, the text looks aliased or "jagged". I thought this was a preview issue, but it looks just as poor after I burn it to BD-R and play it back on our PS3.
Encore project specs : 1280 x 720 59.94fps MPEG2
The specs of my m2v file: 1280 x 720 59.94fps av, bitrate is 28000 kbps.
Naturally, our client is getting impatient for an explanation. Any help on solving this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
VinceYou should wind up with an encoded asset (your clip) as 1920x1080 m2v which should be automatically created, if you use a BluRay Project and select MPEG2 under the project settings.
Why don't you try that and then burn a BluRay folder and burn the disk with IMGBurn, using a BD-RE disk, so you won't waste money on several BD-R disks?
I'm not sure where the "encore specs of 1280x720" come in.
I'd be interested as to how this comes out.

Importing H.264 into Flash CS3
I have an H.264 video that I saved out from FCP via Compressor using the H.264 Format for QT 7.0. The Video looks great when viewed in Quicktime. It was my understanding the H.264 is now supported by the Flash Player natively; however, when I try to IMPORT my H-264.mov into Flash CS3 it looks like it only offers me two choices of RE-Encoding to wither VP6 or Spark - this results in an inferior result after it re-compresses the video.
Why can I not just reference the H.264 movie to play without re-encoding?This is what I did. I saved my movie to the MP4 format in my video editing program and then I used this program to encode it with the H.264 codec. http://www.h264encoder.com Then I used this program to move the metadata from the back of the file to the front so that it would start to play before it completely downloaded. http://howbits.com/stream-mp4-website-h264-high which leads to this link http://rndware.info/download/metadatamover09
I hope this helps you. -
Placed QuarkXpress 7 eps into InDesign CS3 prints with slanted type
any suggestions to fix?
placed QuarkXpress 7 eps into InDesign CS3 prints with slanted type
The problem may be in the HP print drivers.
Printing to Epson printers works, printing to HP 132, 5000 or 2200 produces slanted type, even at Adobe.
Printing to disk as a Postscript printer and then printing the ps file using the pdf printer works fine.

How to import an Quarkxpress 5 file into Indesign CS3
Hello,
I am in trouble when trying to open with Indesign CS3 for windows a file created with Quarkxpress 5 for Mac. Do you have any hint? (file attached)
thanks for supportThe Q2ID plugin is really nice as Bob suggested. If you go through there website they will convert your one document and post it for you to download, email you with the results and a discount code. Well worth the money and a very nice company to work with. I can't say enough nice things about their products.
If you have a newer version of Quark licensed I prefer use their Markztools plugin for Quark to backsave to 4. Seems to be a better conversion with InDesign's Quark import, though that could just be my impression.
