Query on File System Repository..Please guide
Hello All,
I have successfully created the <b>File System Repository</b>, connecting a folder on my windows 2000 machine to an EP (Netweaver 2004s) KM, following the steps like:
1. Creation of <i>Windows System</i>
2. <i>Network Path</i> since the server and my machine are seperate systems
3. Creation of the <i>File System Repository</i>.
You may refer to the above steps in detail using <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/e3/92322ab24e11d5993800508b6b8b11/frameset.htm">link</a>
<u>Question</u>:
1. After the successful creation, I deleted the Windows system created, but the File System Repository was still working all fine. Why so? Shouldn't this throw me an exception?
2. While creation of the Windows System, I entered the ID and Desription.
In the Network Paths, I entered the folder's name (folder which is on my machine/which is to mapped) & my machine's username + password.
Then how does the system/server know which windows system is to be mapped for the netwrok path?
In other words, what is the mapping betweeen the Network path & Windows system?
3. If you access the above link, there is a step of creating a System in the Portal System Landscape. What is the need to do this? Can you please explain......
Why create a PCD System object, System Alias, etc....
Would appreciate if you please help me understand this concept.....
Awaiting REply.

Access Denied when access to File System Repository
Hi,
Our SAP Portal install in Windows 2003, and access to a unix's file system that created from File System Repository of Portal. When I access it in KM content, SAP Portal return the following message:
System Error
An exception occurred during the program execution. Below you will find technical information pertaining to this exception that you might want to forward to your system administrator.
Exception Class: class com.sapportals.wcm.repository...
Exception Message: Access denied
If I double-click any file,
IE return 403: The requested operation is forbidden for this resource.
Please help me to fix this problem?
PS: The unix's file system mode is 777.
The permission of folder in Portal File System Repository is everyone full control.

to my knowledege, this combination is not supported. You can integrated Windows-File-Shares in a Unix-Portal: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ed/b334ea02a2704388d1d2fc3e4298ad/frameset.htm but not the other way round

File System Repository - User Mapping not Working
Hi,
I tried to integrate a file system into KM. For doing so, I followed the guide located at [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ed/b334ea02a2704388d1d2fc3e4298ad/frameset.htm|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ed/b334ea02a2704388d1d2fc3e4298ad/frameset.htm].
The only problem is, tht the user mapping doesn't seem to work...
The portal is running on a UNIX system, whereas the file share to be integrated is running on a Windows 2003 Server.
Here are the single steps that I performed:
- Creation of a KM Windows System in the system landscape directory with the ID "MySystem". User Mapping is set to "User,Admin"
- Creation of a Windows System in the system landscpe of the KM with the ID "MySystem"
- Creation of a Network Path in KM with following settings:
jCIFS Protocol is activated; Network Path = "
My Server\My Share"; User = "My Windows Domain\My User" and the according password. The specified user has administration permissions on the server.
- Creation of a readonly File System Repository Manager with following settings:
Root-Directory = "
My Server\My Share", SecurityManager = W2kSecurityManager, ACL Manager Cache = ca_rsrc_acl, Windows Landscape System = "MySystem"
- Configuration of the W2KSecurityManager: I specified the DomainFile-setting as "/etc/companydomaincontrollers.txt"
and placed such a file in the KM with following setting: "My.Server.Domain=According IP Adress"
- In UME I carried out user mapping for index_service user and placed the above mentioned admin user into the user mapping.
Result: The indexing works fine, all fles are indexed. When I however try to carry out a user mapping for a "normal" portal user in the UME it doesn't work: The portal user has no access to the file system. (I used the same admin user for mapping... so it should work).
Any help is appreciated...
P.S. With portal super admin users I can however access the fle system repository, even without user mapping. But I think this is ok, because I read in one forum message that admin users have always access in general....>

Hi Frank,
thanks for your reply.
I have as well definied an Alias Name with exactly the same id. So this gives us following:
System landscape directory: KM Windows System with id="MySystem" and Alias="MySystem"
KM System Landscape: Windows System with id="MySystem"
In the created file system repository manager I also set "MySystem" for the Windows Landscape System parameter.
So I think that this should be correct (I also considered upper- and lowercase letters).
Maybe the probem lies in specifying the domain names? When I applied user mapping I always additionally specified the Windows domain name of the users, which is correct I think.
In the security manager configuration for the domain controllers (-> [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/a9/c54e9e09448d46b73d154e93d5e995/content.htm]) I however mapped the network domain of the file share server to the according IP adress. Maybe this is wrong? -
File System Repository problem
Hello guys,
I'm on:

I'm trying to set up a File System Repository to connect to a remote share on another Windows machine. I followed the documentation and also some hints here from SDN and still can't connect to the share.
In component monitor it says:

I had an idea that it could be because of the Serverlet Engine User, which is set up due to documentation, but is only a local user not a domain user. I don't know to which extent this user is important for FS Mount Service. I thought, that for connecting to a remote share, there is only important the user and password set up in Network Path settings in CM.
Changing the user on which is EP running is quite a difficult step due to our security policies and so on. So I would rather not experiment with this until I try all the other possibilities.
Could you, please, give me some advice?Hi Jiri,
have you used double forward slashes in your network path? Please try: //10.80.1.55/Test_portal
You can also test from the portal machine that you can mount the drive via command shell:
"net use t:
10.80.1.55\Test_portal /user:DOMAIN\USER"
(make sure you specify the user with domain)
Hope this helps,

Unable to create File System Repository using Network Path
Hi All,
I am trying to create a File System Repository.
I created a networkpath and windows system and used the same while creating File Repository according to the steps in help.
With out using Networkpath(i.e.,If I use IP address,I am able to create File System Repository).
But with the network path,it throws the following error as seen in Component Monitor.
<b>Startup Error: The localroot does not exist: C:\usr\sap\IGTE\j2ee\j2ee_00\cluster\server\NWP_001
My network path is NWP_001
</b>
Did any one face this problem?
Any help please........
Rgds,
SanthoshHi,
I am getting the same error even if I replace(\) by slashes(/).
I tried on EP6SP12 as well as EP6SP2 and got the same error on both.
The repository is searching for a folder named with
n/w path on the portal server itself(i.e, it is searching in the following folder
<b>C:\usr\sap\IGTE\j2ee\j2ee_00\cluster\server\NWP_001
My network path is NWP_001</b>),instead of searching on the remote system.
Can any one help me in solving the problem
Thanks in Advance.

File System repository manager
Hi All,
I am working on configuring a File System Repository Manager. I followed the documentation at
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/e3/92322ab24e11d5993800508b6b8b11/content.htm
and
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/284
I made all the configurations and also restarted the portal still do not see the repository in the KM content under root. We are on Netweaver Portal 7.0 on AIX 5.3/DB6, Shared drive is on Win 2003 OS.
Here are the some details on the configurations I made:
Network Path:
jCIFS Protocol: Active
Description: Documents on Shared Drive
Network path:
<IP Address>\public\temporary
password: ***********
USer: Domain\User
File System Repository:
Description: Documents on Shared Drive
Prefix: /abcdef
Root Directory: //<IP Address>/public/temporary/FileShare
Security Manager:AclSecurityManager
ACL Manager Cache: ca_rsrc_acl
Read Only: Not Active
Please advice - thanks -sm

Note: EP and Share Drive are on the same domain.Hello sm,
You can monotor your repository manager cofiguration, whther it has been activated or not.
It should show in green symbol if it has been correctly configured and active.
Goto system Admin>monitoring>KM>Component monitor>Repository managers-->Check ur repository.... Green color indicate is working fine...
Red color indicate error...
you can check your configuration for the repository.
Example configuration of a UNIX file system repository manager:
Name = fs_rep_unix
Localroot = /usr/company/share
Prefix = /company-share-unix
Read Only = deactivated
Send Events = activated
Repository Services = properties, rating
ACL Manager Cache = ca_rsrc_acl
Security Manager = AclSecurityManager
You can check your Local root i.e. your Root directory. The format should be correct as given in the example.
Don't foget to appreciate, if helpful!!!

File System Repository limitations
Hi everyone
I'm currently involved in a SAP Enterprise Portal project where we among other things are utilizing KM.
One of my customer's requirements are that we integrate an existing fileshare into KM. This fileshare is currently at ~200 GB and is still growing.
Since this is an existing fileshare we are planning on creating a file system repository manager for integrating it into KM.
To verify that this will actually work I have been trying to find any information regarding limitations of file system repositories in KM, but thus far without any luck. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could point me in the direction of such documentation.
Additionally it would be great if anyone could share their experiences with large file system repositories.
Thanks in advance
Best regards,
Svein Gunnar StandnesHello Svein,

How to control permissions in KM using File System Repository Manager
Hello everybody
I have a scenario with 15+ file servers which content needs to be mapped into Portal KM as read-only.
Windows Authentication is configured on the portal, so the users don't need to supply the portal with username/password.
Now the users are of course only allowed to see the same content in the portal as they can see on the file servers. I know that the permission mapping can be done using a File System Repository Manager with W2KSecurityManager, but in that case the users will have to maintain the mapping of rights from windows to portal manually. And with ever-changing passwords this is too big an administrative task. So I am looking for another solution.
My question is therefore:
How can you configure the File System Repository Manager in a way where it the user does not need to maintain "user mapping" manually, but only need to logon to the portal (through windows authentication) and can see the same files from the portal as he/she can see from the file servers.
Can this information in some way be taken from the configured Windows Authentication? Or is the only solution to enable WebDav on the file servers and and follow the "Integration of Windows File Servers into the SAP KM platform Using SSO and the WebDAV Repository Manager"-guide?
Any help will be rewarded.
Best regards,
Martin SøgaardHi again Dirk
I just studied the "Integration of Windows File Servers into the SAP KM platform using SSO and the WebDAV repository manager"-guide in depth and I don't quite understand what rights the cmadmin_service and notificator_service are supposed to be given in the Active Directory. In the guide it says:
"A number of global services and repository services need to perform operations on resources in various repositories. For example, the index management service must read all resources it is meant to index. When an index is created, the service user index_service is used. Therefore, this user has to have at least read access to all repositories that are to be indexed. Other users that are used by the SAP KM platform are the service users notificator_service and cmadmin_service. When a search is taking place, it is the user that is currently logged on to the portal."
I dont quite understand what the two service users are doing but more importantly, I need to give the two service users the correct permissions in the Active Directory (or through user mapping). I understand that index_service only needs read_only permissions, but what permissions should the cmadmin_service and notificator_service be given?

How can i export the permissons and more properties of a file system repository that i had exported with WebDav ?
ThnksJi Josue,
The KM content export can be done using ICE and WebDAV.
We normally transport the KM content and configurations.
The KM content will be transport using ICE and configuration can be transfered using WebDav.
Please go throguh these series blogs and you will get very clear Idea on KM Tranports:

Cm repository manager (FSDB) vs File System Repository
Hi folks,
I want to access the documents in a folder using portal and manage it using KM iviews. I was going through a list of repository managers avaialble and got confused with the cm repository manager in FSDB mode and File System repository manager. would like to know which one is suitable for my scenario and why.
Please help me in this regard.
Regards...Hi Yogi,
the File System Repository Manager has following restriction: You can not use Predefined Properties, versioning, lock documents and create links.
With the CM Repository in FSDB mode you could use metadata like locks and predefined properties, which would be then saved in the DB, but you have to make sure that you don't allow access on FS level (so without portal). Furthermore you can use resource properties like Description, Read-only, and Hidden which is not supported by the file system repository manager.
Hope this helps,

Creating File System Repository for a remote system
Hi Experts,
My requirement is that I need to create a KM repository in EP from where I need to upload documents into the BW system. Is File System Repository the right type of repository which I need to create for this purpose?
If yes, then in what format do I have to specify the value of the Root Directory property of the repository? I have a folder /data/docs created in the BW system within which I want to upload documents using this repository. But since this folder is located on the BW system which is a remote system for EP, I am not sure how I have to enter the path to this folder.
Can anyone give me any hints on this?
Warm Regards,
SaurabhHello Saurabh,
I don't think an FS repository is what you are looking for in this scenario, you could instead use a BI Repository Manager, for more information see:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/43/c1475079642ec5e10000000a11466f/frameset.htm
Kind regards,
Lorcan.
