Query takes long time to load

Hello experts,
My users have queries on a MultiProvider. Today, the queries take a long time to load. When they want to put a filter on it, the selection pop-up takes a long time to show the possible selections.
Is there any way to find out what causes the long wait time? And what can I do about it, to optimize it?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Erica,
Please check load on system(how many users are logged in..?)
Please check : [Checklist for Query Performance|http://sapbwneelam.blogspot.com/2007/10/checklist-for-query-performance.html] some tips for query performance.
Hope it Helps

  • It takes long time to load the parameter's value when running we run report

    Hi,
It takes long time to load the parameter's value when running we run report. What could cause this? How to troubleshoot the behavior of the report? Could I use Profile and what events should i select?
    Thanks

    Hi jori5,
Based on my understanding, after changing the parameter, the report render very slow, right?
In Reporting Service, the total time to generate a report include TimeDataRetreval, TimeProcessing and TimeRendering. To analyze which section take much time, we can check the table Executionlog3 in the ReportServer database. For more information, please
    refer to this article:
More tips to improve performance of SSRS reports.
In your scenario, since you mention the query spends less time, the delay might happens during report processing and report rendering section. So you should check Executionlog3 to check which section costs most of time, then you can refer to this article
    to optimize your report:

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Captivate project takes long time to load on LMS

So I developed a bunch of Captivate 7 modules for a course I'd been working on for some time. When I finally loaded these up on the LMS, I notice that when the modules are launched, a pop-up window opens with a grey background and just stays like that for up to 3-4 mins. I figured grey, because that's what I had set as the HTML page color in the skin editor. However the actual module contents take really long (3-4 mins) to load up. When I tried running all these modules locally from my computer, the grey screen fades into the splash animation within a second.
I figured that this was either due to a bandwidth issue or the LMS causing problems. So I then had these modules tested from our India and US offices (different internet connecttions, multiple LMSs). Same thing happened, takes up to 3-4 mins to transition from the grey screen to the splash animation (but loads up instantly when run locally). We then tried this on multiple LMSs like SABA, Moodle, and even tried this on SCORM Cloud and the same issue. The modules takes a long time to load up, so I kind of ruled out the LMS/bandwidth being an issue.
I'm speculating here, but what I think is happening is that the SCO is trying to download the entire module (about 10MB) to the users machine before it plays the splash animation -- if that's the case then is there a way to avoid that? I mean I don't want a 200 slide Captivate published project to be downloaded right from clicking the launch button -- it could stream through as the user advances through the module. Also, I've seen some pre-loader and Start/End options but not sure how those work.
Important to note here, the 3-4 min wait time from when the module is launched, is only for the first launch. If I were to close the browser popup (in which the SCO opened), and click launch again from the LMS, it's loads up almost instantly -- so I'm pretty sure something's happening in my Captivate project's loading settings which I can't put my finger on.
Can anyone help me figure out why this is happening and also what are some possible fixes to this. I can assure you that it's not an internet bandwidth issue because we've tested it on multiple internet connections and on several LMSs (even the client's LMS that this was tested on says that the initial load up takes too long).

All the symptoms you quote sure sounds like a bandwidth issue to me.
Obviously when you load a project directly from your hard drive then there's no issue with bandwidth.  But if you're pulling down 10 megs from a web server and it takes a while to start then bandwidth is the obvious issue.  I agree that 3-4 minutes sounds excessive for a 10 meg file but that depends entirely on how many users are sharing your bandwidth.  Try getting your people in these different locations to visit one of those websites that allows you to test your actual bandwidth.  It might not be as much as you think.
On another note...What do you have your preloader set to?  The default is 100% but you can usually set it to something like 25% without too much trouble.  That should cut the start time down appreciably but nothing is going to eliminate it completely because there'll always be some initial lag the first time your learners view the content.

  • Gif files takes long time to load..!!

    Hi,
I found the gif/jpg files takes long time ( more than 5 or 6 seconds depends on size ) to render on JavaHelp viewer EditorPane.. I am using JDK 1.3 / Win 2000 / 256 MB / 1 GHz Pentium. Also found JVM uses 90% of the system resources while loading the pic files. I have noticed it as a JDK 1.3 bug from another thread.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=42&thread=230409
I would like to know is there any other solution for this, keeping my JDK Version as it is?
    Thanks
    Reji

I would convert your images to JPegs if possible since they are so much smaller in size and therefore load much quicker. I had exactly the same problem but I sorted it out this way. I know it's a pain and it will probably screw up your view, but it will speed up your load time ten-fold and I don't know of any other work around. sorry...

  • Form takes long time to load

My web form takes a long time to load for my users. As a result, I'm not getting very much feedback from them. I need to ensure that the speed at which my form is delivered is consistent. Is Adobe experiencing any problems that would lead to this? I also noticed that the back end was really slow yesterday.

    Hi,
    >>I also noticed that the back end was really slow yesterday
Yes, we had an issue yesterday with FormsCentral, and it is corrected now. We apologize for any inconvenience that this might have caused.
    >>My web form takes a long time to load for my users.
Generally, it should not take long to load the form.  Will you try to load the form again?
    Thanks,

  • Query takes long time on multiprovider

    Hi,
When i execute a query on the multiprovider, it takes very long time. it doesnt show up the results also. It just keep processing. I have executed the report only for one day but still it doesnt show any result. But when i execute on the cube, it executes quickly and shows the result.
Actually i added one more cube to the multiprovider and ten transported that multiprovider to QA and PRD. Transportation went on successfully. After this i am unalbe to execute the reports on that multiprovider. What might be the cause? your help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Annie

    Hi Annie.......
Checklist for the performance of a Query........from a DOc........
    1. If exclusions exist, make sure they exist in the global filter area. Try to remove exclusions by subtracting out inclusions.
    2. Use Constant Selection to ignore filters in order to move more filters to the global filter area. (Use ABAPer to test and validate that this ensures better code)
    3. Within structures, make sure the filter order exists with the highest level filter first.
    4. Check code for all exit variables used in a report.
    5. Move Time restrictions to a global filter whenever possible.
    6. Within structures, use user exit variables to calculate things like QTD, YTD. This should generate better code than using overlapping restrictions to achieve the same thing. (Use ABAPer to test and validate that this ensures better code).
    7. When queries are written on multiproviders, restrict to InfoProvider in global filter whenever possible. MultiProvider (MultiCube) queries require additional database table joins to read data compared to those queries against standard InfoCubes (InfoProviders), and you should therefore hardcode the infoprovider in the global filter whenever possible to eliminate this problem.
    8. Move all global calculated and restricted key figures to local as to analyze any filters that can be removed and moved to the global definition in a query. Then you can change the calculated key figure and go back to utilizing the global calculated key figure if desired
    9. If Alternative UOM solution is used, turn off query cache.
    10. Set read mode of query based on static or dynamic. Reading data during navigation minimizes the impact on the R/3 database and application server resources because only data that the user requires will be retrieved. For queries involving large hierarchies with many nodes, it would be wise to select Read data during navigation and when expanding the hierarchy option to avoid reading data for the hierarchy nodes that are not expanded. Reserve the Read all data mode for special queriesu2014for instance, when a majority of the users need a given query to slice and dice against all dimensions, or when the data is needed for data mining. This mode places heavy demand on database and memory resources and might impact other SAP BW processes and tasks.
    11. Turn off formatting and results rows to minimize Frontend time whenever possible.
    12. Check for nested hierarchies. Always a bad idea.
    13. If u201CDisplay as hierarchyu201D is being used, look for other options to remove it to increase performance.
    14. Use Constant Selection instead of SUMCT and SUMGT within formulas.
    15. Do review of order of restrictions in formulas. Do as many restrictions as you can before calculations. Try to avoid calculations before restrictions.
    16. Check Sequential vs Parallel read on Multiproviders.
    17. Turn off warning messages on queries.
    18. Check to see if performance improves by removing text display (Use ABAPer to test and validate that this ensures better code).
    19. Check to see where currency conversions are happening if they are used.
    20. Check aggregation and exception aggregation on calculated key figures. Before aggregation is generally slower and should not be used unless explicitly needed.
    21. Avoid Cell Editor use if at all possible.
    22. Make sure queries are regenerated in production using RSRT after changes to statistics, consistency changes, or aggregates.
    23. Within the free characteristics, filter on the least granular objects first and make sure those come first in the order.
    24. Leverage characteristics or navigational attributes rather than hierarchies. Using a hierarchy requires reading temporary hierarchy tables and creates additional overhead compared to characteristics and navigational attributes. Therefore, characteristics or navigational attributes result in significantly better query performance than hierarchies, especially as the size of the hierarchy (e.g., the number of nodes and levels) and the complexity of the selection criteria increase.
    25. If hierarchies are used, minimize the number of nodes to include in the query results. Including all nodes in the query results (even the ones that are not needed or blank) slows down the query processing. The u201Cnot assignedu201D nodes in the hierarchy should be filtered out, and you should use a variable to reduce the number of hierarchy nodes selected.

  • Finder takes long time to load some folders

When opening some folders, the Finder takes a long time (30-60 seconds) to load all the files in it. Specifically, these folders typically contain 10-50 PHP files, each about 10 kb.
I also notice that sometimes, after the files are listed, their icons are still loading and the "Kind" column is also still loading. (I've got the "Name", "Date Modified", "Size", and "Kind" columns showing; "Calculate all sizes" is enabled" while "Show icon preview" is disabled.)
In addition, when opening a directory such as this and viewing Activity Monitor, I see that coreservicesd is at 70% CPU and Finder is at 30% CPU. After all the files have loaded, both services are still at these CPU levels for about 60 seconds afterward.
Anyone know how I can fix this? I already did "Repair disk permissions" but nothing was found.

For those who don't know, PHP files are just text files. Also, if it helps, I always use List view. If I switch to Column view, Finder is equally slow at listing files.
In addition, I'm using TextMate to open PHP files. It's a pretty bloated and old piece of software these days, so perhaps it's somehow slowing down Finder from loading PHP files, perhaps due to QuickLook rendering or something? Also, one very interesting note: if I "Force quit" Finder to make it reload, the file listing will appear immediately. So clearly something is getting bogged down.

  • Login Page takes long time to load

    Hi,
There is a peculiar issue with one of the portal we have.
If portal is being accessed through the standard url i.e http://<fqdn>:<port>/irj/portal its takes more than 3-4 min everytime to load on the browser. Even once user id & pwd given it takes equally long time to login.
If portal is being accessed through the url i.e http://<fqdn>:<port>/nwa it loads in no time.
Note: Its is standard portal screen. No customization done.  This is developement system so hardly couple of users log in simutaneously.
    Data base is sqlserver.
Any help on this? Could this be a OS (windows 2003 server) issue?
    Regards,
    *Raj*

What  Arun Jaiswal said, but before you do that, check if it does the same with different browsers!
I had something similar, but when I tested the portal application (in your case it's the standard portal, I know ) in FF3.5 it works, but in IE7 not :S.

  • Oracle SQL Select query takes long time than expected.

    Hi,
I am facing a problem in SQL select query statement. There is a long time taken in select query from the Database.
    The query is as follows.
    select /*+rule */ f1.id,f1.fdn,p1.attr_name,p1.attr_value from fdnmappingtable f1,parametertable p1 where p1.id = f1.id and ((f1.object_type ='ne_sub_type.780' )) and ( (f1.id in(select id from fdnmappingtable where fdn like '0=#1#/14=#S0058-3#/17=#S0058-3#/18=#1#/780=#5#%')))order by f1.id asc
This query is taking more than 4 seconds to get the results in a system where the DB is running for more than 1 month.
The same query is taking very few milliseconds (50-100ms) in a system where the DB is freshly installed and the data in the tables are same in both the systems.
Kindly advice what is going wrong??
    Regards,
    Purushotham
