Question about battery (MBP4,1 early 2008)

I have a MacBookPro4,1 early 2008 15-inches and I want to change the battery because the latter drops down to 0% in 10 minutes. Is this ( http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA348LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDEwMQ&mco=MTA4NDE2NDk ) the right battery for my MBP?
Thank You.

  • Question about battery maintenance and longevity

I have a question about the efficacy of the built-in battery maintenance of the Lenovo Power Manager utility; specifically how it pertains to my W520, if that makes any difference.
With my previous laptop (an HP), any time I knew it would be parked on my desk for a week or longer, I would manually discharge the battery to about 40% and remove it to run the machine on AC power only.  This proved to be an excellent practice that enabled the battery to work like new for three solid years.  As soon as I stopped bothering with that, the battery life started dropping like a stone.
Lenovo's power manager offers the option to maintain the battery automatically or manually override it to maintain a charge within specific range.  But I am wondering: how well this will work in the long run as compared to handling it manually?  And how do the two options (automatic and manual range) compare with eachother in terms of maintaining long term?
I currently use the manual setting and keep it between 40% and 45%.

I would put into manual, you have more control. Automatic follows a preset rule, which may not apply in every case or battery model.

  • Question about battery life

    Hi everyone,
I got my refurbished MBP 13" mid 2010 model two Friday's ago (July 16) from the Apple online store and I have some questions about the battery life....
Immediately after I got it, I followed all the battery calibration instructions from apple.com/batteries (and did it again after it because I was unsure if I did it properly). While it was charging, I was installing some recommended applications, one being coconutBattery. In the additional information section, it said that my MBP was 7 weeks old, has gone threw 10 battery load cycles, and had a original battery capacity of 97%. I am now at 17 loadcycles, with 94% original battery capacity.
Now to how much time I get with the battery... I have done some testing of my own, such as watching some movies (Tron and Star Trek First Contact, I'm a geek :D), basic web browsing (5 tabs open, reading blogs, watching a couple of 3 minute youtube videos) and listening to an audio book (iWoz) with a tab or two open. The best battery life I have gotten (basic web browsing) was 5 1/2 hours, with 60% LCD brightness, keyboard backlight off, and bluetooth off, with just Chrome and coconutBattery open.
Is this the average battery life for everyone else? I bought this because of its supposedly good battery life, and though I am very happy with my purchase, I just want to make sure that I have a fully working MBP.
    Some other notes:
The battery meter next to the clock sometimes says that 98% is fully charged (I think it is just a glitch)
The estimated battery life is between 9-11 hours when brightness is at 30%-40%, airport and bluetooth is off, and keyboard backlight is off when I am doing text editing.
    Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Forgot to say I have the 2.4ghz 250gb model.

  • My iPhone 3GS is arriving soon, Questions about battery.

Hello all. I have both the original iPhone and 3G. I purchased a 3GS and it is about to be shipped.
I have a question about getting the MOST out of my battery.
When I receive the phone, what is the best technique for getting the most out of the battery? Like what I mean is... Should I get the phone, use it all day until it dies and THEN fully charge it? Or should I charge it to 100% right when I get it?
    Or does it even matter?
    Thanks!

Charge it to 100% out of the box. Then use it until it drains to zero, or close to it, and then recharge and you're good to go!

  • 2 questions about battery change.

Well i got my first gen. ipod shuffle last yr summer and my warrenty ends this yr....
so will it cover the battery change or not? and um...do they still change the battery for the first gen. ipod shuffle since the second gen. ipod shuffle is already out there. ya so those are my two questions

The battery is covered under warranty.
His 2nd question was leaning in the direction of "now
that there is a 2G iPod Shuffle, do they still fix
    the 1G iPod Shuffle?"
Going by a true definition, as you seem to want to
do, we should simply tell everyone, "When you send in
your iPod under warranty, you will NOT get it back.
Apple will probably just give it to someone else.
    Sorry."
NOOooo... Apple will REPLACE your Shuffle with another one
AND will NOT warrant the replacement beyond the length of the ORIGINAL's warranty or 90 days whichever is longer.
    That's all folks...

  • Question about battery life on brand new mbp

I have had my mbp 11 days now, and the battery life seems very short.
I have tiger woods 08 installed
20 minutes of playing and the battery life is down from 100% to 20%.
This seems very short, its not only playing games, the battery life seems to go down very fast when browsing the internet etc.
    Cycle count is 8.
Can anyone tell me, is this what i should expect?

In particular read the article on calibrating the battery. If you haven't done this, then I suggest you try it first. If problems persist then followup with a call to AppleCare or your local Apple retailer.

  • Question about battery replacement please

I have a B575 laptop.  I'm looking to replace the battery.  The question I have, the battery that came with the computer is rated at 10.8v.  The replacements I've seen are rated at 11.1v.  Will the voltage difference be harmful to my computer or shorten the life of the new battery, or is it a marketing gimmick where all batteries have an actual rating that varies slightly.
    Please advise ASAP.
    Thanks.

    hi JustMeee,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
In replacing the battery, it is ideal that you get a:
    - battery with the same rated voltage (this is the specific voltage measurement at which the laptop can start functioning)
    - battery with a lenovo FRU on it (this is to prevent any "unauthorized battery" error)
    From this item,
There are two Voltage definitions: rated Voltage and maximum Voltage. The rated Voltage is the number of Volts required by the appliance in which the appliance is used. The maximum Voltage is the number of Volts provided by the battery when fully charged.
It's possible that the 11.1v replacement batteries that you saw is the maxmum voltage - which is ok and will not harm the battery nor the system but if this is the rated voltage, I recommend you stay away as it may do the opposite.

  • A question about battery

    Hello,
currently I'm waiting for the 2013 line and then I will decide what will I go with, but for sure some retina. Every laptop has "7 hours" on battery, I'm wondering if that's on 100% brightness while searching web or just doing nothing? How long is it on lowest or while using the notebook? Inform me with anything, thanks .

Upto 7 hours of wireless web.
Battery runtime depends on the cpu/gpu activity, brightness level, etc.

  • XServe Early 2008 (MA882LL/A) + RAID card SAS drive capacity question

I've tried searching the web and support forums, but haven't been able to find a clear answer to the following question:
I have an XServe Early 2008 (MA882LL/A) with the Apple RAID card and three 73GB SAS ADMs. It's been working great for the last two years. I'm about to upgrade it to 10.6 Server, and if possible would like to swap in larger drives at the same time (since it'll be down for an afternoon anyway). However, only 73GB and 300GB SAS ADMs were ever offered for this model, and Apple says that the Promise 450GB ADM is not compatible with it. What I can't determine is whether I can put a larger drive (notably, a Seagate ST32000444SS) into the Apple ADM sled. The RAID controller seems to have no problem with large SATA drives in the SATA sleds, which seems like a good sign, but I'd rather not order $1K worth of new drives and discover in the data center that they don't work.
Does anyone know definitively whether or not larger drives will work in SAS ADMs with this model of XServe? The RAID controller firmware is current (hardware rev 1.0.0, firmware rev M-2.0.3.3), if that makes a difference. I've read all the docs I can fine--I'd be happiest with an "I tried it and it did/didn't work" kind of answer .
    Thanks much,
    Amanda Walker
    Reston, VA

    Good morning
I am watching this thread as well. I have two of the same servers (without the RAID card) and have wondered the same thing as I migrate to Snow Leopard and as my data drives continue to fill up. Apple techs and local service techs have not been willing to endorse Amanda's solution for me and have stuck to the Apple Drive Compatibility chart which certifies 73 and 300 GB SAS drives only for this model XServe.
Thanks for any info you might provide.
    Greg
PS Amanda, I would be interested in one of your 73GB SAS drives in an ADM as a boot drive should you decide to surplus one or two of your drives.

  • Follow-up question about forms and SharePoint Online

I asked a question about life after InfoPath earlier, and got a good answer:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/fb23b3d9-8a09-4267-aab5-09929f6a3082/life-after-infopath-seeking-advice
After looking at all of the limitations of SharePoint Online, I'm wondering how developers are dealing with the limitations. Lets say you are asked to develop something that has complex logic, including fetching data from external web services, dynamically
displaying parts of a process to people depending on role, and ending up with a printable document. In our on-premises environment, InfoPath is well suited to this task, with some code behind for some things. Or, if not using InfoPath, we would use application
    pages and workflow.
Neither of those are available in SharePoint Online, so what would you do?

Some things, such as the conditional display of content, can be done via JavaScript. More advanced items, such as integrating external web services would likely require a SharePoint "app". A SharePoint app is essentially a link to a separate site
that is running an asp.net web app (or PHP, or whatever). This asp.net site can do anything it needs with any web services, or conditional formatting, or anything. Because it's registered as a SharePoint app, it can also call back into the SharePoint site
and work with data. So, a SharePoint App could present the user with a robust form that simply sends the data back to a SharePoint list. The SharePoint app can also be surfaced on the SharePoint site itself in an iframe, so the user won't know that the form
    is hosted by another server.
By the way, the ideas behind the app model permeate the entire SharePoint environment: instead of having the SharePoint server itself run all kinds of custom business logic, that workload is handled by other servers, so the SharePoint servers can be focused
on running the core bits of SharePoint. InfoPath puts a large load on the servers, so it's out.  XSLT list views also put a load on the server, so they're also out. SSRS is an amazingly fantastic tool, but is not supported in the cloud (and there's no
alternative). Timer jobs, event handlers, workflow, and many other things have been re-architected to take the load off the SharePoint servers.

  • Early 2008 still worth it?

I'm currently thinking about buying a 24'' early 2008 iMac model. It has a 320gb hd, 4gb of ram, and is has a 2.8 GHz processor. I'm curious if it's really worth it? It clocks in at $965 with shipping, and it's used, but I'd end up getting AppleCare for it. I know the refurbed ones from the Apple Store are a bit over $1000 with shipping, and that's something I really don't want to get into. I was honestly also considering the same spec'd model, but with a 20'', but a friend of mine talked me out of it. Any ideas on this, folks?
Wanting to keep it for 5+ years or so.

refurbed ones from the Apple Store are a bit over $1000 with shipping
Shipping is free on Mac purchases from the online Apple Store.
If it's used, and being purchased from an individual seller, I would only buy it if all the original discs are included and if I can return it if it is not in satisfactory (as described) condition. Also, if it has been more than one year since originally purchased, you will not be able to buy AppleCare for it. And I'm not sure if a second-hand owner can buy AppleCare for it, even if it has been less than one-year since purchase (you should check into that).
I don't know what your performance needs are, but you can get the current get 21.5-inch iMac for $999 on the refurb page.

  • Mac Pro (Early 2008) - Question about swtiching startup hardrive

I have a Mac Pro (Early 2008), let's call her A, that I have been using non-stop but both its video card and a set of memory sticks have failed. My buddy bought his Mac Pro at the same time, let's call her B, but he barely used it. I want to keep on using a Mac Pro so I bought my friend's machine B, with the intention of using some of its parts or even use it as is, because as I mentioned, he barely used it throughout these years and is working fine.
Would it be possible to take the start up hard drive from A and place it on B? Like I said, they are both from the same generation and share pretty much the same configuration, except B, my friend's, came with a better video card (he ordered it that way).
Thank you so much for your help on this matter,
    Juan.

    Hello The hatter,
Please let me know what to do?
I decided to go for option B and now I am running my friends Mac Pro. Uploaded all my software and and back to work. Only that I noticed that this machine now stalls a bit at start up (gray logo, no spinning wheel for a while).
I discovered that even though I installed a new set of memory sticks, now the machine only recognizes Riser A (Top?) with 2GB (1GB x2) and listed as EMPTY the Riser B (Bottom?). I know they are supposed to go in pairs...so I am so tired of dealing with so many issues and worries with so much work to get done.
I decided to order a new set from OWC of matching (hopefully) sticks to place them on the Riser B (Bottom?) ASAP and see what happens?
    What do you think?
Help please, I have been following your posts because I can tell you are extremely experience on the matter and I need such help more than ever before.
    Thanks a million!
    Juan

  • Question about full cycle charges and battery life

So I've had the new iPad since day 1 and absolutely love it, though recently I've noticed that my battery life doesn't seem to hold up as well as it has in the past. I've done three full cycle charges since getting it however during my latest one I accidently brought along my iPod wall charger and not the one that comes with the iPad. My iPad was fully discharged and I plugged it in assuming that in the 7 hour window I had that it would be fully charged within 5 hours, but this was not the case due to me having the wrong charger. After about 7 hrs of charging it was only at around 60-70% so I had to unplug it, bring it home, then plug it in once more using the correct charger. Probably a fairly obvious question but does this not count as a full cycle charge because I unplugged it? Should I perform another full cycle charge even though this most recent one was not even a week ago. I know you're supposed to completely discharge your battery as few times as possible so it worries me having to do it again so soon.
About battery life, I've noticed lately that my iPad battery seems to be depleting quicker than normal, and was hoping that perhaps this was caused by being overdue for a full-cycle charge which I may have flubbed as seen above. I'm aware of a majority of the little tips and tricks to prolong battery life however I'm not so knowledgeable on the "do's and don'ts" of charging the actual iPad so any information on that would be helpful. I should also note that unfortunately I accidently left by iPad in a hot car for a little over an hour and was tremendously devastated knowing what this can do to the battery, so could this be the main cause for a seemingly weaker battery?
    Thanks for any feedback!

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.
