Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
Start up in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Restart as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
If you still have problems, then from the Font Book menu bar, select
File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

'Conforming' Media - What Is That All About?

Guys,
I've got 5 Premiere CS5 projects that are UK PAL WS containing a mixture of 1080i and XD CAM footage (the original footage is HD but I want SD output). My system is an Intel Quad Core running Windows 7.
I also have a 'master' project that incorporates these five sequences which I then link to Encore for the production of a DVD.
Anyway, for some reason (and this is why I am posting this), one of the sequences persistently runs the message 'Conforming' fileXD CAM.mpeg in the bottom right hand corner. Sometimes when I load the master project (or the individual project), this process completes itself successfully, sometimes I get an error message in the form of a red 'cross' bottom right and no audio.
It's frustrating me because I've burnt a disc before I realsied what was going on and the audio from this file in the sequence is missing.
So can anyone help me to understand why this happening, why this one project / sequence is behaving this way when the other four are fine and why the audio is missing form the DVD?

Thanks Harm.
I do wait for the conforming to finish, otherwise the audio won't preview and yes, trouble can follow.
The issue here is that this one project, when the conforming is finished, does it all over again when I go back to it another day.
The media is where is always was, on an external drive.
What confuses me is why this one project, out of five, does this? The other four are fine.
I know it's not possible to look in to my computer but I'm wondering what the explanation could be?
What might be different about this project that causes constant 'conforming' every time and the occassional errors with it.

I have an elder statesman Pro. This morning he restarted himself to a folder with ? Restart was "on his own" no one touching anything. What was that all about?

A couple months ago, I went to work on my Mac Pro. I found that there had been an apparent restart - for which I was not present - and the screen now was blue, with a folder on which was a ?, as in the Pro could not find a startup folder.
After an agonizing morning of trying various things, I finally got the computer to start on a DVD. From there I could access my hard drive and used Time Machine to go back a week and restore everything. Shortly after that, I got my heart back into normal rhythm.
This morning, at 0600, while I was doing something completely un-computer related - the computer being untouched since last night - when my Pro shut itself down, then restarted itself. Again, the startup was interrupted with a ?folder, "I cannot find my brain this morning" icon.
I shut the computer down completely and left for a couple hours. I have now restarted the computer, feeling like, although I would lose a couple hours work, at least I knew the situation wasn't hopeless. To my surprise, the Pro has started up as normal and all things seem normal.
What is this "I will simply restart as I wish" routine - seemingly at 0600 - and why can he suddenly not find his startup routine?
As a possible clue, I offer the following:
While I did not see the original restart, I believe it too was at 0600; I was in the office shortly before that time, left, and returned about half an hour later. I have the computer set up to awaken and grab my email at 0600, so I can sit down and go to work.
Also, I have noticed since the first incident, when the computer awakens in the AM, I frequently have to reconnect my wireless mouse and/or keyboard. Sometimes I actually have to re-add them to my bluetooth list. Sometimes they remain listed as favorites, sometimes not.
This is an older Pro, dual-core Xeon processor, running 10.6.8 - mostly to accomodate some of my software.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Check the following:
From your Home screen, tap Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream, and make sure the slider is set to the ON position.
From the Home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure the slider is set to ON, and that your device is connected to a wireless network.
Ensure that Camera app is closed on the device where you took the photo. Photo Stream will not upload photos from an iOS device until the Camera app is closed.
Ensure your iOS device has not fallen below 20% battery power. To preserve battery life, Photo Stream downloading and uploading are disabled when the battery reaches this threshold. Downloading and uploading will resume once you charge your device, and the battery charge is greater than 20%.

Apple want £476 to replace my iphone in warranty!!?? What's that all about?????

Have had the run around from apple, customer service is appalling!!!! phone is defective and under warranty but they still insist I make a holding payment to them for almost £500!!!!!! Any advice I'be just started my own business and I'm losing money hand over fist because they seemingly are unwilling to waiver this fee!!!

We don't know anything about what is wrong with your device or how Apple can resolve it. It's possible that Apple consider you at fault if you did something wrong or maybe the reps have made a mistake. We don't even know if you spoke directly to Apple, an Apple store, Applecare or a third party?
You should look at how you purchased the device and what protections you get through that payment method. Consumer law will cover you as an individual but if you used a business credit card etc you may have a different set of limitations.
The original supplier may be responsible for returns & replacements - where did you buy it?
You have my sympathy, but this is a user forum and we can do nothing about this unless you want to know where to look for help or support.

I get a tab opening that says that I have won and to click on the button to get my prize, I am unable to close that and therefore uninstalled Firefox... What is that all about? It appears to be malware.

The tab that opens does so in a second tab after the home page tab has opened, but it does not allow access to the home page tab, and it will not allow closing of the tab. It says that you have "WON", and you need to click on the button to collect your prize. It is clearly malicious software, but what, why and how to avoid it is not at all clear. It does not corrupt Internet Explorer.

Click the Firefox button, go to Options | Options | Advanced and in the General tab, remove the checkmark from "'''Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page'''".
You won't get that dropdown banner anymore afterwards.

Why can't you simply print a photo in iPhoto? It wants me to create a "theme" first? What's that all about?

When I try to print in iPhoto it won't let me print without creating a "theme" first. Is there any way you can just print? I don't want a theme, I just want to print!

"themes" are simply print protocols. Yes you can have some layout, but plain is also theme. At a wild guess you're getting a "no theme installed message"?
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

The easiest AND quickest way would be to reset the iPad and start over.
Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset.

Can't sync as not enough room in itunes? what's that all about?

I've just tried to sync my iphone to do a back up (hasn't been done in ages) as my new iphone should arrive tomorrow. It did all its syncing (I thought) then gave me the message that there wasn't enough room (in itunes) and it wasn't able to sync. As it's on its last legs I really need this backup to transfer everything to my new phone. Please help! Thanks very much Sally

Looking at previous comments on this subject I've managed to solve the problem myself by deleting apps off itunes and then deleting the same ones on my iphone. Had to do it a couple of times to get enough space but it seems to have worked.
