Question about creating a cloud connection to SQL Developer

Hi all!
I want to create a cloud connection on SQL Developer to Oracle cloud, but keep getting the following error (NOTE: I have the trial version. Also, I have replace the identity domain name with asterisks for the post) :
Connection to https://databasetrial1875-******.db.us1.oraclecloudapps.com refused

I have followed the steps to the last letter using: Data Loading and the Oracle Database Cloud Service
What I have done on the dashboard and APEX:
I changed the password of the SFTP user.
I have created a new user on APEX that belongs to the SQL Developer Group and changed the 'Require change on Password on First Use' to NO before creating the user
SQL Developer:
I set the database username to the new user I created in APEX
I set the database URL to the URL I used to reach the APEX page...https://databasetrial1875-******.db.us1.oraclecloudapps.com/apex/
I set the SFTP username to the username listed next to 'Service SFTP User Name' on the dashboard
I set the SFTP hostname to: sftp.us1.cloud.oracle.com
I left the port set to 22
When I login on SQL Developer to database, I use the password for the user I created in APEX
Thanks in advance to all who help!

Hi,
You have to use the admin account to add the admin role to the developer account. Can you please try this and let me know of your feedback.
The settings you added look good, and the you have the latest version of Sql DEVELOPER     , ...so this should be an issue.
Maybe you have some firewall setting on your computer, that are blocking the connection?
If , after checking all of the above you still have an issue, please contact oracle support via the chat on the cloud.oracle.com and ask the engineer to open a Service Request under your name.
Thanks,
Flori

• Create RAC Database Connection in Sql Developer

Hi All,
Can you please let me know how to create a new connection for a RAC Database. When we use the scan IP and service name, it always displays the network adapter could not establish the connection, even though the listener and database are up and running. After repeatedly, trying atlease 20 times, then it will connect to the database. There are no issue while connecting to a single instance database.
Thanks & Regards,
Krishna

Hi Krishna,
You don't give any details about version numbers but, in general, the Basic connection type should work -- there is no need to use TNSNames. If you can connect to the RAC system via SQL*Plus with an EZConnect string, one would hope the same host/port/service works in SQL Developer for a Basic connection type. But that may be just a hope, I suppose, depending on your overall configuration for SCAN. Or perhaps you pass the full TNS descriptor to connect to SQL*Plus?
In case of long thin RAC JDBC URL, presumably you mean including the full TNS descriptor in the url. I really did not find very much on the forums regarding SCAN, but searching more widely on the internet I note someone resolving a JDBC-specific issue (where SQL*Plus connects just fine) with comments like this: +"The host name in the connectiong string be the same as the init.ora parameter remote_listener and it should also match to the SCAN name. We should not include any domain names with SCAN name , remote_listername and with HOST setting in connecting string"+. So apparently you have to be very careful with the url specification.
Hope this helps,
Gary

• Problems Creating Custom Connections In SQL Developer

I have the Auto-Generated Local Connections available in SQL Developer 3.2.20.09 Build MAIN-09.87, but cannot create my own connections. I've searched the forums, but haven't had an "AHA" moment.
I installed the 32-Bit Oracle 11gR2 and SQL Developer with JRE on my Windows x64 system because installing the x64 version of Oracle 11gR2 failed. This is for database classes I'm taking at the local community college.

• Unable to connect using SQL Developer.

Hi,
I am having a hard time connecting to the database instance using "Cloud Connections," in SQL Developer.
I am using the information found in here: http://docs.oracle.com/cloud/CSDBU/develop.htm#BABDBHJA to connect to my cloud-service, but all I get is an error:
"Authentication Failed Invalid resource owner credentials."
I am positive that I am using the same username and password as when logging in to could.oracle.com.
Can anybody help me?

Apologies for any difficulty you have been having.
I would start by reviewing the white paper on data movement. My guess is that you have not defined an APEX user with SQL Developer privileges (yes, I know the process could be more clear - it's getting there.)
You can find the white paper here - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/database-cloud/public/data-movement-wp-1844121.pdf. Please make sure you follow all the steps properly, for both initialization and the actual connection.
Hope this helps.

• A question about creating READ ONLY users.

Dear all,
I have a question about read only user accounts and I would appreciate if you could kindly give me a hand. I have a schema named SCHEMA1. Whenever I want to connect by using sqlplus I run the following:
sqlplus user1/[email protected] SCHEMA1.WORLD is the entry in the tnsnames.ora referring to the schema SCHEMA1.
I need to create a read only user who is able to SELECT all tables and views created by user1 on SCHEMA1 (this user will not modifiy anything at all. The user is used only for a person using SQL queries to read data). for several tables I write the grants explicitly, for example:
CREATE USER user2 IDENTIFIED BY user2;
GRANT CREATE SESSION to user2;
GRANT SELECT ON S001_COR_ECLASS TO user2;
GRANT SELECT ON REF_ECLASS511 TO user2;Is there anyway to do the same thing but for all the tables (because there are a lot of tables and views)? Besides, even with these granted permissions when the user connects with SQL Developer to the database, he is not able to view the list of tables/views in SQL Developer GUI. What causes this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Dariyoosh

Hello Dariyoosh,
he is not able to view the list of tables/views in SQL Developer GUIyou can either go to "Other Users" - user1 - tables. There you see every table you have permission to select.
Or you can create a synonym in schema2 for each table in schema1 and set a filter on the tables node of user2 "Include synonyms".
Regards

• Unable to create a connection in SQL developer

hii
I'm unable to create a connection in SQL developer..it says I/O Exception, Network Adapter could not establish a connection...i provided the username and password which i used for SQL*Plus, which is working fine. And i gave the host as localhost. I don't know how to fill the connection name field..can anyone help me in connecting to the database...By the way I'm using Oracle 11g. Thankssssss

you could try to change the connection type to TNS and pick the database name available to you in the Network Alias drop-down list.

• A question about creating packages as local objects in ABAP

Hi,
I have a question about creating packages with SE80. Whenever I create a new package it is assigned a new transport request. After that, I can create new programs inside this package, and each time I can choose whether to assign the new program to a transport request or just save it as a local object (I often do this for test programs that I don't transport and I remove them once my tests have been done).
What I would like to ask is that, is it possible to create a package (and not just programs inside a given package) as a local object? so that every new object created in this package will be considered as a local object?
Thanks in advane,
Kind Regards,
Dariyoosh

Thomas Zloch wrote:
Please also check the F1 help for the package field e.g. in SE80, SAP standard is in range A-S and U-X, namespaces start with "/", so you should be save. I am using the T namespace for temporary stuff since a long time and did not have a problem so far.

Thank you very much for this remark, I checked F1 help for the package field and in fact as you mentioned these ranges are for local objects.
Once again, thank you very much for your help.

• No tables listed when using a proxy connection in SQL Developer

Hello, I'm trying to use a connection in SQL developer that uses the proxy connection to connect to another users tables. In the SQL worksheet area I can access the other users tables with no problems. And using SELECT COUNT(*) FROM USER_TABLES i get the count of the number to tables. But on the tables view on the left hand side of SQL developer no tables are listed. So the question is why do I not see any tables under the tables view? Is this a bug or is it working by design? Thanks

To access other user's objects, use the Other Users node...

• Connect from SQL Developer to several SQL Server instances

Our SQL Server has more than one instance, but I see only one instance of them trying to connect from SQL Developer 1.2 to SQL Server. How I should define the connection information? Usually we connect to SQL Server by <hostname>/<instancename> and then the database name as CatalogName (Initial Catalog). In the Oracle world you can give only the hostname, a port number and the database name. How I can convince the SQL Developer to choose one of our SQL Server instances?

Hi user627927,
Bug/Enhancement request already logged.
We have not got this configuration in house, two people have suggested workarounds but we are unable to test them for now. The last person was unable to get these workarounds working, and we have not confirmed them in house.
Can you get the instances connected through two different ports?
It would be great if you could confirm either workaround.

*1/Suggestion 1 change the url through SQLDevelopers xml connection store.
[Note it is probably simpler to connect a dummy connection through the connection dialog as usual save it (you cannot connect) and then add the instance information rather than having to enter all the information in an unmanaged way.]
Hi Naveen,
I had same problem as you and user579801. I managed to resolve it by doing the following.
1. Locate the file called IDEConnections.xml in the folder where you have installed SQL Developer (eg. c:\sql developer\sqldeveloper\system\oracle.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.0.11.42.62).
2. Create the following entries under <connections> tag.
<connection>
<URL>jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://\\.\;namedPipe=true;instance=SQLDBNam;</URL>
<ConnectionName>SQLServer</ConnectionName>
<user>SQLUser</user>
<ConnectionType>JDBC</ConnectionType>
<DeployPassword>false</DeployPassword>
<JdbcDriver>net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver</JdbcDriver>
<RaptorConnectionType>Microsoft SQL Server</RaptorConnectionType>
</connection>
3. Save the file; Close and re-open the SQL Developer and try connecting.
Hope this will solve your problem. Good luck.
Regards
Raja
*2/Overload the port field to have instance in the eventual url
This took some figuring out but I cracked it in the end....
SQLServer tab:
Hostname: <servername>
Port: <portnumber>/<databasename>;instance=<instancename>
so for me the Port field looks like this: 1433/Gaffa;instance=SQL01
That should now connect to a named instance SQL Server.

• Establish new connection in SQL developer

hi,
i am trying to establish new connection in sql developer, i m just new in orcale and installed 10g , from where i can get all the required information for new connection like HOSTNAME, port , sid etc
pls someone can help me on this

Depends. All this was presented to you when installing. If you didn't wrote anything down...
If you accepted all defaults, it still depends on your DB version (which?).

• Connection ... able to connect using sql developer, but not sqlplus or toad too

Hi folks, having this issue, with only one of my so many databases, what might be the reason and how to fix/correct this, please assist.
Able to connect using sql developer, but not sqlplus or toad too; sqlplus error: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
thanks in advance.

SQLDEVELOPER works since it use JDBC Thin & does not use tnsnames.ora
ORA-12154 ALWAYS only occurs on SQL Client & no SQL*Net packets ever leave client system
ORA-12154 NEVER involves the listener, the database itself or anything on the DB Server.
ORA-12154 occurs when client requests a connection to some DB server system using some connection string.
TNS-03505 is thrown by tnsping & is same error as ORA-12154 thrown by sqlplus or others.
The lookup operation fails because the name provided can NOT be resolved to any remote DB.
The analogous operation would be when you wanted to call somebody, but could not find their name in any phonebook.
The most frequent cause for the ORA-12154  error is when the connection alias can not be found in tnsnames.ora.
The lookup operation of the alias can be impacted by the contents of the sqlnet.ora file; specifically DOMAIN entry.
