Question about external HD DVD (Blue Ray) players with Tecra M5

I have a TECRA M5 laptop (running XP) although this question could be relevant to other laptop users with no internal HD DVD players.
Is there an external (e.g. USB) HD DVD that I could connect to my laptop? So to watch HD movies on my laptop?
If such a thing exists would it also plug directly to a HD TV (as my laptop has no HDMI)?
Is there any way I could swap my existing internal DVD for a HD one?

Oh man,
I will show you why you _shouldnt_ think about buying an external drive for your machine.
1. Yes, there are PLENTY of external HD DVD drives, mostly of them are connected trough USB
2. You could plug it in your notebook, yes, and probably you could play HD DVD movies on your machine but NOT in HD since your display only supports a maximum resolution of 1024x768 pixels, but HD movies need at least a resolution of 1280x720. Any sufficiently fast computer with a 1280x720 or higher resolution display is capable of displaying HD video, even though computers are generally not advertised as such.
3. No, you cannot plug it directly into a HD TV, I mean why dont you buy then a HD DVD player???
4. Yes you could, but are you familiar enough with computers systems to exchange a drive which is built in your machine?? If you really would spend the money for the drive you should ask then spend some extra money for an technician. ;)

  • How do I make interactive DVD/Blu-Ray menus with motion?

So, adobe doesn't support Encore anymore which means I can't use dynamic link to AE to create interactive DVD/Blu-Ray menus with motion.... or can I? Is there something I'm doing wrong? While in Encore, I go to dynamic link and boom, dynamic link to AE is not highlighted. If I can't make an interactive menu with motion using adobe, then what can I use? This is causing a major problem for me and my clients. (if i over looked the answer to this in another post, my apologies)

You can use the "Create After Effects Composition." This prompts you to create an independent version of the Encore PSD menu file, and opens the layered file in AE CC and creates a new composition with appropriate settings. AE no longer has mpeg export, so you export from AE to AME.
There were some workflow options that I did not play with much, but they were never what I saw as the basics for using AE to create the motion background.
You need to understand these two help pages:

I'm not sure what you mean by "interactive" unless you just mean creating navigation.

  • 3 questions about FCP 7 and Blu-Ray

    Hi Folks,
After reading the other posts on Blu-Ray and FCP 7 I still have just 3 questions:
    1. I would like to get an internal burner. I see that at MacMall they have one that is specific for my MacPro model (2008) and there's one that they sell for the 2009 version. So it seems that I have to select a specific drive for my Mac Pro model correct?
    http://www.macmall.com/p/MCE-DVD-Drives/product~dpno~7785361~pdp.fedabdd
Does anyone recommend a specific brand/type?
    1. If I add the chapters mark on my project and export to a Quick Time file, will the chapters be present and accessible when I burn the Blu-Ray disk?
    2. Looks like the best option is to buy Toast but, just to make sure I understood the issue with the share to Blu-Ray: If I just have one simple project with a movie with about 10 chapters, is it worth trying to use the option to share to Blu-Ray or is it not recommended for any type of project?
OK, I know I said 3 questions Just one more?
Back in the days, I remember compatibility issues with some types of DVD media and DVD players (DVD-R, DVD+R, brand, etc). Is there such a thing with Blu-Ray media and the current players?
Again, many thanks for your time and patience!
    Best regards,
    Ismenio

I use OWC (macsales.com) for purchasing blu ray burners. good company.
    Not certain on markers.
I create blu ray disc with Compressor in FCS3 without many issues but not using Share.
    I don't advise using Share.
Set your markers on a short clip.
Export self contained with the markers, and then use Compressor directly

  • DVD Blue Ray question /customer service F rating

I called four times to customer service on friday (45min on phone)They were unable to answer any questions except price just kept transferring to different deparments.
My question was about the panansonic blue ray player on sale today
Does it have multi channel audio outputs.....my receiver does not have hdmi but does have multi channel audio inputs for 7.1
Does the Panansonic  Blue ray player BD35k have multi channel audio ouputs?

If your talking about an Optical output then yes, all blu-ray players I have ever seen have had an optical output. If you mean a digital coaxial output, the answer I believe is no, but I will check at work today as I am not 100% sure.
On the other hand, if your talking about the 5.1/7.1 analog outputs commonly found on home theater in a boxes, then the answer would be no.

  • How to connect Apple TV to DVD blu-ray home theatre

Hi guys, I am planning to buy Apple TV2 and I was wondering is there setup guide for connecting to HDTV and home theatre system. I currently have LG HDTV and LG DVD Blu-ray Home Theatre. They are connected with HDMI 1.3 cable and I had to get optical cable to get sound from TV to Home theatre.
How is Apple TV fits into that? I have 1 HDMI slot free on TV and 2 HDMI inputs on DVD system.
I was thinking just to connect Apple TV to DVD via HDMI? Would that put sound on home theatre system?
    Thank you in advance.
    ddrasko

You have read home theatre manual about playing sound from external device.
You doesn't need to connect home theatre to tv at all as you have get video from apple tv.
Connect video output from apple tv to tv(may carry sound along) and optical cable from apple tv to home theatre.
That will do. You can mute sound of tv(in case hdmi carry sound along) or using other function(on samsung ) and hear from home theatre sound from speakers.

  • Blue Ray Players

I recently bought a HP Envy 23 All in One PC with a blue ray player, my question is, do you have to play only blue ray dvds in the player.  I have been having problems playing my standard dvd, is this the reason I am having problems?

    Hello 381SDW,
You are having issues with Blu ray player not playing standard DVD’s, is that correct? I will be happy to help you.
Blu ray players can play what are considered approved standard DVD’s. Which in other words means store bought DVD’s or commercial DVD’s.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

  • Analog outputs for Blu-ray players

I'm not even sure if you can play a Blu-ray on an analog TV, but the internet features are usable, if you could display them. I know HDMI to RCA adapters can be purchased, but why make the consumer have to buy them. MANY people still have analog televisions. I think a large market is being missed. I use my Blu-ray players for the internet functions a lot more than I play discs. Also, many people still have analog stereos and can't output the sound. I know some players have coaxial outputs, but older stereos can't use them. It's going to be a long time before everyone has digital TV's and stereos. If these units had RCA video and audio, they could still have use for a Blu-ray player.

    Hi
I saw your question and was wondering if 4 months later you had found out any useful information about the BDP-S780 connectivity to any TV.  Info about the webcam/video camera to connect to it would be equally useful.  Thanks.

    Hi
Je ne parle pas Francaise at all - so I guess that it's about Blu-Ray .
I use Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl BD-component (now version 11) to do sort of Blu-Ray coding to standard DVDs - limit is about 20-30 minutes if quality is keept. It can also burn true Blu-Ray but then You need a BD-Burner and BD-disks.
    The DVDs with BD-code needs a Blu-Ray player to be played - I use a PlayStation 3

  • E4200 Connection issues with two Samsung Blu-ray players at a time

    Hi everybody,
    Sorry about my English,
I have E4200 V1 router, it is working fine, and I am connecting different type of devices with it like desktop computer, laptop, iphone, printer and two Samsung 3d smart Blu-ray players. Everything is working fine. I have charter cable internet.
But the problem is this: when I play movies via Netflix on both Samsung Blu-ray players (one player is in my family room and second player is in up stare bedroom) one player stopped playing movie and disconnected from the wireless network and message shows (check your wireless network).
When I stopped/turn OFF the second Blu-ray player, then the first one got connected with network and start playing movies.
I can’t run both Blu-ray players at the same time on this E4200. When I was playing both players at that time all the other devices I mentioned above was connected with the same network but were not performing any task, those were in sleeping mode.
I also changed the QoS, Quality of Service setting to high priority using MAC address for both players, but it is still not playing both Blu-ray players at the same time. Just one plays the movies at a time.
Any idea or help to solve this issue, I would really appreciate that.
    Thanks,

Hi, chzsoona. Have you tried changing the channel of your wireless channel? You may try channels 1, 6, 9, 11. If you have a version 1 router, check your firmware version it should be 1.0.05. If you have version 2 router then you may upgrade it then use Linksys Smart WiFi so you can take advantage of the Media Prioritization. • I get a msg"failed connection" when trying to connect Sony dvd/Blu-ray player to tv

I have had problems with picture quality on tv. I think it is my very old dvd/vid player, so bought a Sony dvd/Blu-ray player. I continually get a failed connection msg when trying to set it up and connect to the tv.  Have dbl checked all cables etc, and all has been done according to manual.??  Any thoughts appreciated!

Hello Wendyd, thank you for your message. Welcome to SONY Community!

  • HP DVDWBD TS-LB23L stopped detecting DVD/BLU-RAY

    Laptop info:
HP Pavillion dv8-1190eo (5 months old)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
In the middle of watching a DVD movie, the player stopped working. The movie "froze", didn't start on its own, so I removed the DVD from the tray to check for scratches and dirt on the DVD (and found none but even cleaned it anyway). This was the last time the DVD/Blu Ray player worked. It has been possible to play a single audio CD but other than this, the device does not even detect that any CD/DVD/BLU RAY is in the tray. I have tried with approximately 12 different DVD's, including DVD's that it has played flawlessly before, including brand new DVDs and brandnew writeable DVDs.
What happens on loading a disc in the tray is:
    1. it makes a sounds as if attempting to read the disc
    2. the small disc icon appears briefly next to the curser
but nothing more. When checking START --> COMPUTER it shows the Blu-ray Disc-ROM-drive but it doesn't show that any disc is in the tray. When double clicking the drive, the tray opens with an "insert disc" message.
With the aid of HP Phone Support over the phone, we have checked the registry to see if there were any conflicts (e.g. iTunes and similar). Everything was ok.
Then we restored to an earlier point where the devise was working but to no avail.
Then we downloaded the driver from HP's site and installed it, but to no avail. Upon a second attempt of installing the driver, we received an error message: "This software is for Windows Vista, Windows Vista WMC, Windows 7, Windows 7 WMC". According to HP Phone Support it is indeed the correct file for Windows 7 64 bit.
I have also tried running HP Support Assistant to trouble shoot, but this is not working as it asks that I load a writeable disc to perform the test. It does not detect the writeable disc I put into the tray, so I cannot perform this test.
According to device manager, the device is working properly.
HP Phone Support's suggestion is that I make a complete restore. This means taking full backup of all data (which I should do anyway), restore, and then install everything I have on my computer again. I am not happy to do this as it is quite a bit
of time consuming work. The other option is to let HP Support pick up the laptop and send it for repair and be without the computer for a minimum of 10 work days (which would easily be 3 weeks or more) which is not really an option for me.
I can see from these forums that I am not the only one experiencing problems with the DVDWBD TS-LB23L, although HP Phone Support refuses that this is a "known issue".
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your fast reply.
It is indeed HP warranty support that I have spoken with in length yesterday, and more briefly today. They give me the options between complete restore which they will guide me through over the phone (as stated above, this is a quite time consuming procedure with full backup, restore, then reinstall of all software, then backup copied back to laptop), or alternatively, to pick up the laptop and send it to repair which means I would be without computer for at least 2 weeks, but most likely 3 weeks or more - this is not an option to me as I don't have a spare computer, and there are obligations which I can't meet without a working computer at home.

  • LG blu ray players to stream FIOS channels wireless

I am looking to try using a wireless LG blu ray player to stream some channels from FIOS instead of having to purchase additional cable boxes for some bedroom TVs.  I can not find the technical requirements  I need in a device to get this to work.  Is FIOS DLNA compatible? Has anyone found a wireless blu ray player that has had experience with streaming channels from Verizon as is advertised on their website?

The first link contains support information for LG streaming devices. At the bottom of the page it shows the two currently supported Blu Ray players. You would need to do your own evaluations in regards to the wireles. But right now I have for example, Redbox Instant Beta loaded in my Iphone and it streams Via 3G or Wifi.
The Redbox Beta list of players is not final, as the service is being tested.
Not the same as a BD player, but my X box is streaming those 75 channels with an ethernet cable, and I have not tried it with wireless.
Samsung information is also available from Verizon.
I hope this information is helpful. They may not show it but here are Verizon's listed devices that can download the app from the app stores.

  • Good Wireless Blu-Ray Players?

I am going to buy a Blu-Ray player with built in wifi. I was set a on a few models but upon looking on this message board, the Samsung BD-C6500 and the LG BD570 have many issues connecting with the Airport Extreme. Does anyone know of any models that have no issues? Why are there any issues at all, aren't we past this Mac vs everything compatibly issue?

For what it's worth I have the LG and it works fine with both wired and wireless connections. However, I recommend connecting it via Ethernet if at all possible - this avoids many potential problems with a wireless network. I've used its wireless connection but the Airport is only a few feet away, and if they're that close you might as well wire them together.
Don't know about the Samsung. I looked for complaints on the discussions board but didn't find anything that would concern me though.
Why are there any issues at all, aren't we past this Mac vs everything compatibly issue?
A network is completely unrelated to a client's OS. Any problems you're likely to run into might concern Windows-centric configuration instructions, but there really aren't any required anyway. A Blu-Ray player is just another client on the network. It will either have an network connection, or not.
The LG has a "media center" function that allows you to play networked media storage - it may need some kind of Windows interface. I don't use that feature so I wouldn't know.
