Question about order of effects in after effects

I'm just a hobbiest. I want to put home convert home movies to 4K. Nobody I know has gone 4K. i'm using the effects color correcton, detail(I don't know what it's called but you use it for scale) in distort and add grain .but I don't know which order they should be in or what all the Eastman and Kodak grains are or the best color correction for 4k are?

If you movies were not transferred with a telecine setup and are standard def I wouldn't try upscaling them. You'll end up with a mess. If you used a real telecine service to encode the home movies to BluRay or HD digital files with h.264 or similar MPEG encoding I'd probably just leave them alone. Only if you had your original films encoded with a real telecine and have what would be considered a production codec copy would I try to use AE's improved upscale or something like Magic Bullet's Instant HD to uprez. I can't see any situation where I would take previously encoded 8mm movies and try and push them all the way to 4K for several reasons. The first is it's too far to go to expect any kind of quality increase. The best you can hope for would be a zero gain in resolution or clarity. The second, You've got to have some fairly fancy hardware to successfully playback 4K files to a 4K monitor. Third, The final viewed image of a HD source played back on a decent 4K monitor will never look any better than HD broadcast TV or BluRay playback through the monitors automatic resizing capabilities. There's only one way to make 8mm film look better than a true telecine conversion to HD and that's a true telecine conversion to 4K. There's just not enough information in the negative to make it worth the effort.

My MBP has been scheduled for delivery today. I have taken the day off work for the delivery. I have just heared that it is going to be delivered tonight around 8pm. It seems that TNT have a policy that they do not deliver certain items during the working week as people are not at home. This may sound very good if you have not taken a day off to take delivery. Quite frankly I am a bit hacked off as I would like to use the machine for a job tomorrow and now will have to stay up late doing updates etc.
Regarding delivery: I'm sure this is a reasonable policy, I would just have liked them to tell me yesterday ( when I phoned up) that delivery would not be until tonight so I could have gone out and earned some money today!!!

2 questions about SmartWare (password protection, resume after standby)..

Hi guys, 2 quick questions about the SmartWare utility. I have searched for previous answers, but couldn't find any. Might be that I uses the wrong search terms though, so sorry in advance if this had been asked (and aswered) before. When I create a backup, it is being stored file-by-file in the "SmartWare" folder on the NAS. Since the SmartWare folder is public, all users with access to the drive can access this folder. Ultimately this means that ALL users of the drive can access the backup files of ANY user. If someone performs a full backup, this means that anyone has access to ALL the data of that person. I could't find any option in SmartWare to password-protect backups or something. From a security point of view, I would consider this as a worst-case scenario. Even worse is that there is no mentioning of this in the user's manual. Am I missing something here? Is there a way to protect backups against access by any other user? If this is really not possible, I would consider this application to be pretty much useless, to say the least. "Dangerous" would be a better description... My 2nd question is only relevant if there's a solution for the first one, because else I would't use this tool anyway: Does it automatically resume a backup if the machine is put to standby or hibernation mode during a backup operation, or will it restart from the start, or will the backup be interrupted (and thus useless)? One can create a Private Share on the WD My Cloud, configure it so only one user has access (password protected), then one can configure the SmartWare software to backup to that private share folder. One changes the backup location in the SmartWare program by selecting the dropdown selector box below the "WD My Cloud" on the Smartware "Home" screen. The Smartware User Manual explains this process under Chapter 5, Backing up Files, step 2, substep c. Smartware should resume the backup when ever it is interrupted. Here is how it is explained in the Smartware User Manual:Note: Backup protection is automatic for as long as the backup source and target devices are connected to your computer. Then, whenever you disconnect and reconnect either device, the WD SmartWare software rescans the backup source device for new or changed files and resumes automatic backup protection.

Question about ORDER BY

Using an ORDER BY, how can I sort VARCHAR2 values in a way it ignores the case (upper, lower)? At the moment al uppercase occurences are placed on top.

Question about Workflow between Premiere and After Effects

Hey guys, I have Production Premium CS5 (Premiere and AE)
One thing that has always confused me was basic workflow between these 2 products. Is it best to get your clips, but them into sequence, do the basic effects that Premiere supports and output into the highest quality video in order to take into AE and apply effects to?
Or should I take video footage, do my After Effects work, export that as a clip that will then be used in the video composition in Premiere? I know I don't want to move a project too many times between because of compression, so what would the most optimized workflow be?
FYI, I am doing a lot of video game frag movies, so I have a lot of effects I like to put into it.

I'm always amazed at Photoshop's cold boot startup time. On my rig it takes 8 seconds. From a warm boot, Photoshop will start in 2-4 seconds.
This isn't the case with my video editing software though...

Premiere seems to be a beast of a program; I'm rather surprised, I thought AE would be the more intense one. Sorry, I haven't yet overcome my fears of losing projects/data because I'm running on a Windows machine.

Yes. If you render out your C4D file into a format with alpha, you could very easily place a video behind it in AE. You can even easily bring your C4D camera move into AE if you wanted to. How about Illustrator? That's designed for doing stuff exactly like this, whereas InDesign is a text and illustrations layout app.

to do stuff like this exclusively using InDesign (perhaps with the help of a script, here and there), but it's far easier to use each of the applications of the design suite for what they're meant for.

Question about animation navigation effect

Video 1 (RE:MATCH) looks perfect, however it appears you have to choose a video track to match everything else to as opposed to one particular clip. Have you tried this plugin? Do you know if I moved my 'perfect' clip to a track all on its own and then applied RE:MATCH to all other clips and set them to match that one track it would work? Even if the perfect clip is say 5 seconds long and the timeline as a whole is 10 minutes?
Revise the tutorial once again: the reference frame can even be a still image.
Video 2 (SpeedGrade shot matcher) is this SpeedGrade accessible from the main Adobe CC program or do the clips need to be run through this external program?
SpeedGrade is a separate application. However, in CC you can save a look in SpeedGrade and then apply it via Lumetri effect. See this tutorial on PrPro <-> SpeedGrade workflow:

A question about using the history tool after using the extraction tool in photoshop cs3..

When I use the history tool, it erases the image instead. Whats up with that?

I can't tell from the link exactly which tutorial you mean!
If the original layer is a white background and the snapshot is set to this then the history tool will paint back white even if you then paste or drag an image onto the layer above this.
You would have to take a seperate snapshot of your image layer and set this layer as the snapshot you want the history tool to use before you start working on it.
One neat thing you can do is if you paint back some detail with the history brush you can immediately go to Edit > Fade and fine tune how much of the effect you want to apply.

Question about order by and rownum and subqueries.

Can you explain why test 4 below results as it results- with returning no rows?
Identificator "PKG_INTRA_CUSTOMER_SEARCH.NAME" is a package function, which returns value from a variable declared in package body, the function returns value 'e%'.
Please note that tests 1-3 all returned data, but test 4 didn't. Why? My porpouse is that test 4 would also return data.

My general question is that wht Test5 below returns only 1 row, but Test5 returns 3 rows.
The difference between those two tests is only that one has "order by" clause, the other doesn't have.

Questions about ordering a phone from the site.

I've never ordered a phone online before, or even from Best Buy for that matter. So I'm confused about a couple things. How does it work? Do they just send me the phone and I have to deactivate my old one?
Also, I noticed the Droid Incredible 2 is listed at $0.00. I know you need to get a $30 data plan, which is okay since I'm overdue for a renewal anyways. But, I'm confused about the plan part. I'm part of a family plan, so if I selected the option to not change it (Which shows up as $0.00 still) Does it tack on the $30 data plan for my phone? Or do I need to select the $30 option?

When you receive the phone, there will be simple instructions inside on how to activate it.
As for the plan, I'm not sure why the website would indicate you can keep your same plan, but if you do not have a data plan you will be required to add the 2GB for $30 option. It is impossible for the phone to be activated on your account without it, so I would recommend just selecting the $30 option.

A few questions about ordering FIOS

I was told by the workers from Verizon that I need to fax my passport in order to set up an installation date. Is there any other way to deal with this online or do I really have to go to a Verizon Wireless store to set up an installation date for FIOS?

A passport is only warranted when trying to establish "citizenship". Verizon has customers that are not US citizens. Those who are US, establish identity or credit by social security numbers. If you are Canadian or another visiting National, the passport would be requested. Once your status is verified, you should have no problems.
I use all their services and get great customer service if I run into problems. If you run into issues, keep calling.
