Question - help! File conversion.

I'm not very computer savvy. I've created a great number of documents in Illustrator that now appear as pdf or png files. How or why this has happened I do not know. When I print them out the edges of the illustrations are slightly blurred which means that I cannot use them. If anyone can help me with this problem I'd be eternally grateful as I've spent ages creating the illustrations for work and now they seem a bit worthless. Thank you!!

This sounds disastrous.
You have no AI (.ai) files, only PDFs and PNGs?
If that is the case, it seems that they have been saved in the wrong way (you may Save as PDF, but you can only (or in earlier versions could only) Export/Save for Web (& Devices) to PNG.
If you have saved as PDF, it rather depends on whether Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities has been ticked; if it has, there is a full Illy file within the PDF, otherwise not.
Can you find vector artwork in the PDFs when you open them in Illy?
If there is vector artwork, that is what you have to work with/recover from; if not, I am afraid things have to be recreated.
It sounds as if things have somehow become rasterized.

Question on file conversion?

This is my last question .
I am inquirng if it would be classed as legal if i removed the protecting from a itunes file for purposes of playiing it through a DJ program.
Hear me out.
The program is a DJ software program that plays music files straight from the PC and out through a DJ mixer to speakers. The program will play the old itunes files without the protection but not the new itunes files!!!
Iam wondering if iam aloud to remove the protection from the file so that the DJ software program will load and play the new non protected file, the file will still be a itunes M4A (not M4P) just without the protection.
Am i aloud to do this and the music file still be classed as legal???
This is where the controversy lays.... as i cant see the difference between a CD that is burnt with itunes music files in itunes media player, thus the protection being removed so the CD player can play the file, and removing the protection directly?!
The reason i want to is because i dont want to degrade the quality through burning and re-ripping, plus I dont use CD players, i work straight from the laptop in a software program>>??

Question: CR2 file conversion

I originally had ordered the CS4 Extended version, however I was in a hurry to get it installed, and did not realize for over a month that I did not have the extended version that had arrived shipped to me. Upon noticing the difference eventually, I called, they sent a new version, I installed it, send the old unextended version back, and thought my problems were over. Until I shot a photo session in Raw format, and the files saved as a CR2 file, it will open the thumbnails in Bridge, but not in photoshop, any suggestions?
I'm working on an iMac, shooting with a 50D...Help? I'm at a loss for what to do, I looked for a CR2 plugin, but don't see one, but doesn't mean it's not there, I'm not 100% Mac savvy yet, I'm still within the first year of working on one.

Firstly, Extended has nothing to do withit.
The cause is probably because the shipping version of Photoshop CS4 comes with Camera Raw 5.0 and your camera needs 5.1.
Check in Help > About > Plug-in in PS to see what version you have.
If it's not version 5.1, get the update (which is currently 5.6) from her:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4621
and follow the instructions carefully.

Question about file conversion in the sender file adapter

Hi, all.
I am trying to get the file adapter to parse a file. The message type is the following:
JOB
   Msg 0..1
      Transaction 0 ... unbounded
         Data   0 ... 1
            f1 string
            f2 string
How would you define the recordset name and recordset structure to produce the same structure in the converted xml. I tried:
recordset name : Msg
recordset structure : Data, *
But the transaction is missing. I tried:
recordset name: Msg
recordset structure : Transaction, *
Then the data is missing. Note that the actual data in f1, f2 ... are loaded successfully though.

I agree. But that is how it is defined now by someone else. It is hard to change it as he defines the same structure on the receiving side. I didn't want to change the receiving structure as it touches the proxy code too. So I want to make something short and sweet.
Basically the data looks like this:
11,222
55,666
The result xml should be something like:
<JOB>
<Msg>
     <Transaction>
        <DATA>
           11
           222
        </DATA>
     </Transaction>
     <Transaction>
        <DATA>
          55
          666
        </DATA>
      </Transaction>
</MSG>
</JOB>
I know either the DATA has no meaning and it's giving me a headache ... but that's how it's done and I don't want to rock the boat too much. There are lots of mapping that I have changed otherwise.

Adobe XI won't open pdf in windows 7; needs file conversion to encode text. need help!

adobe XI won't open pdf files in windows 7; error msg says it needs file conversion to encode the text. choosing any of the options available still does not open it. please note that the pdf's are attempting to open in WORD. if it needs to open elsewhere, then how to i make adobe open elsewhere every time? thanks!

Question on File Content Conversion

Is it always neccessary to have the data type structure as File, Record, Row and then the fields. Is it always neccesary to maintain this level of hierarchy for File content conversion to work.

Windows API help files (Installation question)

I've been working in LabWindows/CVI for a few weeks, and have added some API calls. They work fine. However, when I go to Help/Windows API, I get the following message:
"The Win32 API documentation has not been installed. You can install the documentation from the LabWindow/CVI Platform DVD."
I have the Developer's suite DVDs, and ran the installer on the first, selected a custom install of LabWindows/CVI and saw that all the help files were installed, as were all the Windows API support files. In fact, the only things which weren't installed were the wizards for VS 200x. I tried installing the MSDN files, which is a bit of a help (I can go search on it), but, it's a bit big and slow compared to a normal help file.
What am I missing to install this?

There was a problem with the MSDN help installer that shipped with VS 2009. It installs the help correctly, but CVI 2009 is not able to link to them because of a registry incompatibility. You have a couple of possible workarounds:
a) if you have CVI 9.x, and you still have the "MSDN Library Documentation" DVD that came in that package, you should install it and the help link from CVI 2009 should then work.
b) or you can simply get the same help online. Just browse to msdn.microsoft.com and enter the name of the function that you want to get for.

The problem is that I have a help file for an application i developed, but i don't know how to link my java application with the help file, so when the user presses the help button on a window the help topic related to that window appears.

I am planning to integrate JavaHelp (version 1.1.3 I think)
into my UI. Download it from java.sun, read the Acrobat "How To"
file, (it's quite lengthy, ~90 pages) and get to work creating
your HTML Files.
There's also a user's group you can join.
JavaHelp supports a couple of ways to start help, like
(1) press a button and the help frame pops up (Table of
contents and the actual contents)
(2) press a button that means "give me help on the next
component I click on"
I won't lie to ya - it is a formidable task to organize your
topics, set up the XML file that glues it all together, and
add the UI Links - but WELL worth it, when you have the
finished product ! :-)

No visible cursor, and question about the help-file

Right now I am using a temporary computer, as mine is being re-formated.
When I opened Illustrator to change a text-line in a picture, there was no cursor when I clicked on a word. I could still make my change, but no blinking cursor to tell me where I was. Can somebody please tell me where that setting is? It feels like I am working blind...
I looked for this in the help-file, and while doing that (and not finding the answer), I wondered, as so many times before, how they thought at Adobe when they constructed the help-file as it is now... If I open the help-file in Illustrator, select that I want an answer for Illustrator (the icon to the right of the search-box) WHY do I get answers for InDesign, Bridge and other programs???? WHY not just for Illustrator? I am NOT interested in those programs right now, I want an answer for Illustrator. Please tell me there's a setting or something to fix this, because this drives me crazy each time I want help with something.

Thanks for your answer. For some strange reason the problem is now fixed... I checked the second box in Settings/General that says something like "use exact cursors", restarted the program and no change. Then I went for a coffee break and now it works

MTS file conversion help

What is the latest, best MTS file conversion software. Is there a good free one?
I'm shooting 1440x1080 30p. iSkyoft only lets you convert to 1080x720, which I have to render on the timeline.
Is there a converter with the higher hd options?

No good free ones unless MPEG StreamClip doesn't work.
ClipWrap2 is pretty good for about $50.00.

You can write the help file in HTML and then use a
JEditorPane to display it. You need to use the
setPage(url) method to set the contents of the
JEditorPane. It works fine though and since you can
use HTML, you can include screen sots of your program
as long as they are gif or jpeg.or bmp or png - or anything else that is html supported
Look at JTextPane (also uses 'setPage("\some.html")' ) inside a JScrollPane. Nice classes to work with.

MTS File Conversion for iMovie

Dear Apple Support Community,
I am struggling with movie file conversions, and getting the optimum results from such a process before starting my editing work in iMovie.
I have a Canon HD camcorder which records movies according to AVCHD standards. Before using iMovie, I need to convert the .MTS files to a format which is compatible with iMovie, and I have tried the following:
Copy the files from the SD card on to my HDD.
Using Toast 11 (Titanum), I have selected different profiles to convert the file to formats such as MOV, M4V, MP4 etc.
The converted files yields a size that does not match the original one i.e. a 300 MB file after being converted, is now either 791 MB, or 96 MB in this case.
When importing the converted file into iMovie, iMovie still wants to optimize the file for some reason (I believe using APPLE INTERMEDIATE CODEC resolves the optimization issue)
Import the files directly from the SD card into iMovie, provided I have not altered the original file structure i.e. when inserting the SD card, iMovie recognizes the SD card the same way it would for connecting the Camera.When I select the videos to be imported, iMovie does so without hassles, but the files again turn out to be bigger than the original file by a factor of between 2 and 3, depending on the original file.
What is the best way to convert files to preserve the quality as close as possible to the original?
Is it normal for coverted files to be larger than the original file after being converted (smaller makes sense, but bigger just baffles me)

I do have struggles though in general, part of which originates from my camera itself.
My camera still has a tendency to record an interlaced effect even though my settings are confidently selected to progressive (I have 50i and 25p to choose from - 25p is my selection).
However, when I use Toast Titanium, I have an option to select the source video to be deinterlaced, but Toast does not do a good job at deinterlacing, compared to Handbrake. The benefit of my Toast Preset is that I can covert the video to an Apple Intermediate Codec, which means that when the files are imported into iMovie, the process is rather quick.
When I convert using Handbrake, the software does a pretty **** good job at deinterlaing, but the downside is that I cannot find a preset that makes import into iMovie satisfactory.
So, in light of all this long discussion I gave, my question is really, what is the best file converter for iMovie to convert MTS files that need to be deinterlaced.

p.s. there's one more thing he can try. if he has a working swf, he can trying decompiling it to get a working fla or, even if that fails, he will be able to get a non-corrupt fla whose assets can be extracted.

How can I open help file (HTML or .chm) from Java Web Start (new to JAVA)

Im trying to open the help file of my application.
When trying to access the help file from the GUI (pressing F1 for launching the help file), I'm geting the an error, something like:
"Can't show help URL: jar:file:C:\Documents and Settings\%USER%\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\javaws\cache\http\Dlocalhost\P7001\DMwebstart\RMjar-name!/com/resources/helpFiles/MyHelpFile.html"
It seems that the file which is packed in a jar, was downloaded to the Java Web Start cache directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\%USER%\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\javaws\cache\http\Dlocalhost\P7001\DMwebstart
The code which is activated when launching the help file is:

The function "RuntimeUtil.launchFile" knows how to launch any file in its default application, and indeed it does launches the html, when giving it an absolute path to the file on my PC, as "C:\Helpfiles\MyHelpFile.html" as such:

The application is going to be deployed on a Customer PC. How can I access the html file from the code, with a relative path and not its absolute path on the customer pc, which I can't know?
I found these restrictions regarding web start:

*Rule 1: Java Archives only. No loose files.* All your resources have to be packaged in Java Archives (jar) if you want to have
them delivered to the user's machine and kept up-to-date automatically by Java Web Start.
*Rule 2: No file paths.* You can't use absolute or relative file paths to locate your
jars holding your resources (e.g. <code>jar:file:///c:/java/jws/.cache/resources.jar</code>).
Absolute file paths won't work because you never know where Java Web Start
will put your jar on the user's machine. Relative file paths won't work because Java Web Start
mangles the names of your jars (e.g. <code>venus.jar</code> becomes <code>RMvenus.jar</code>)
and every JNLP client implementation has the right to mangle your names
in a different way and you, therefore, can't predict the name with

Please advise (I'm new to Java and Web Start).
BTW, I'm working with IntelliJ IDEA 5.0.
