Question mark where moon must be - Weather widget

When i go to the dashboard, the weather widget displays a blue square with a white questionmark in it a little top left of where the moon is supposed to be

Dear Grant Bennet,
I've tried that, I just bought my macbook pro last week and disk repair (even from boot) gives me only 1 issue with permissions that cant be fixed. It starts with System... and ends with Agent (something like System/.../Agent).
Ive repaired and it could not be fixed. The widget is still not working though. Yesterday morning everything worked just fine and I only used Pages in between.
Is there any way to completely remove the widget and redownload? Maybe an icon is missing or something like that?
I attacheted a screenshot so you can check.

Dashboard Widgets: All I get is blue question mark where QT should be

Hello,
I have tried installing some interesting Widgets but many of them fail to operate. If there is a QT element to the Widget, all I get is a big blue question mark and the letter 'Q'...as though I'm being told that Quicktime is needed but the widget can't find it. I know for a fact that Quicktime is on my iMac (how could it NOT be?), so what problem am I suffering from and how do I remedy it?

Well, it works even on Dialup here, no QT box.
I'm not clear on what you mean by 'Repair Permissions.' What's that?
Easiest way...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when complete.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

Question Mark where Safari icon should be

I have a new macbook and love it so far, the only problem I've come across is a big one though, I have 3 accounts on my computer, all except for one of them (my account) the safari icon is now a big question mark (indicating that the file is corrupt I assume?) First I tried deleting one of the accounts and making a new one in it's place... same problem. Then I trashed the safari/question mark icon and tried to create a new one but could not find it in the finder (I searched safari, and safari.app).. Since safari is still working fine on my account (just not the others) I know it must be in there some where, but where?

I cannot find it in the applications folder on those accounts, just on the main account
Safari is supposed to be in Macintosh HD --> Applications
If Safari is not in that folder, move it there.
It should not be in Users --> yourusername -->Applications

Big question mark where iPhoto is

Hey I just bought a new iMac and I M new to iMac but when I first got the computer
Set up everything was fine but after I installed the applications disk and snow leopard there's a big question mark at the bottom where iPhoto should be and I can't open iPhoto. Any ideas on what to do?

Then you need to re-install the apps:
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
For help re-installing iWeb, check on that forum.

Can't play embedded videos. Shows large question mark where the video is.

Need some help. I'm not able to play any embedded videos and all I get is the big Q with a question mark over it. I've tried reinstalling and checked the permissions in the registry. The problem that I found is that in the QuickTime preferences, on the File Type menu, there is absolutely nothing in there, just a blank white space. Any suggestions?

Had the same problem; quicktime plugin would only work for administrative users not normal "limited" user. I temporarily promoted the user to administrator and the plugin worked fine. When I restored the user back to limited it still worked. I only had this problem on one computer so I don't really know the root cause. For reference, the computer was running Windows XP Pro, SP3, on a Windows Active Directory domain, using free Quicktime version 7.6.2.

My ipad will show a blue box with question marks where there are pictures, many times but not all; on top it Time togo to apple payed support?

So when i go to a webpage it shows only some pictures. Nothing on instagram or pinterest. Facebook ok though. An d then i can't download apps that need to be updated or new. I can't restore my magazine purchases. Was happening even before latest software was installed. Have reinstalled the software twice. Have restarted ipad numeroustimes. Nothing. Help!!! Or should i pay for apple support?

Try turning the router off for about 5 minutes, then turn it back on. Same with your Mac.
Then go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
For Lion v10.7x: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Now try Safari ...
Tip ... since you are running v10.7 Lion, the only way to reinstall Safari would be to use Lion Recovery. Downloading and installing Safari from the Apple support page will not work on Lion.

Why blue question marks where images should be ......

fully.
Any ideas?

Now if I can only find someone who knows what an error code 412 is on System 9. Been trying to find some clue - can't move files to external hard drive on my old G4 before I reformat internal drive and load system 10.

Bootcamp question mark

After partitioning disk, I restart with windows 7 dvd inserted into the external dvd drive I just used to burn it.
But it restarts with a question mark.
(I must use a external DVD drive becuase macbook pro optical drives don't last.)
(also my dvd drive is streched across my keyboard becuase it needs two USB inputs, and it's short little chord can barly reach across the 15 MBP i use without sitting atop the keyboard)
Cannot fathom what is going on...

Installing W7 from an external disk seems to be hit or miss even on a native Windows computer it seems. It depends on if your computer supports it or not or the moon is aligned with venus, etc.
Might try another USB input/output cable or make sure the drive is connected with an external power supply, maybe the USB port doesn't give enough juice. Some computers only have one port that puts out the full watts needed to power some external devices.
You don't give the year/model or MacOS your using so can't guess what you have or had before.
If you want to try again, if you have a USB thumb drive and have Lion (updated to 10.2 or higher) then Apple enables making a W7 USB installer drive via Boot Camp Assistant.
By the way, they do make longer USB cables.

Question Marks After Periods

I've noticed that after a period, where I add the usual two spaces before starting another sentence, the second space becomes a question mark when the receiving party replies to my emails. So, in their reply, my original note will be visible and have a single question mark where the second space would have been.
Example (my reply): Hello, how are you?? It's cold outside.? Please verify your reciept of file.? Thank you.
So, anyone else ever have this happen. This occurs with one client in particular. It isn't a global issue.

Hello Bradley.
You must have originally learned how to type on a typewriter like I did. Simply put, the "two space" rule is a typesetter's convention. It was developed for use with monospace fonts, so that your eye could easily pick up the start of a new sentence. With modern proportional fonts used with electronic/computer format, the double space is largely irrelevant. Further, modern typesetting software uses interword spacing to make the display of text more pleasing. Thus double spacing can make the layout less pleasing.
This doesn't excuse the problem with Tiger Mail in which RTF is really HTML but until the problem is resolved by the Apple Mail team, either start using a single space after a sentence (which is the standard for electronic messages) or switch to Plain Text.

Weather widget missing graphics

For the past few weeks my weather widget has been displaying the "missing link" blue question mark at the top of the widget insetead of the normal graphic displaying hte current weather conditions.
The info is all there, and it's generally right, and the graphics for the week forcast are all there as well. It's just that one larger graphic that used to be at the top that's missing.
I would love to find a way to fix this that doesn't involve re-installing Tiger...

Just a reminder for others who may read this thread. If you are having problems with any aspect of OS X, experiment with deleting the appropriate .plist. Plist corruption is common and .plist file deletion cures many problems. Too many users try the intricate solutions first and end up complicating the problem.

Getting question marks in html output when xml file has an mdash or rsquo

I have a java servlet that gets an xml file out of ifs, applies
a style sheet to it, and sends it to the browser as html.
I have:
DOMparser parser = new DOMParser();
parser.parse(XmlUrl);
The characters ampersand, greater than, less than, and
apostrophe work fine.
HOWEVER, When the xml file has an mdash(&#X2014) or a rsquo
(&#x2019) in it, my html output in IE shows up with question
marks where these characters are supposed to be.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I don't understand
why it would work with some special characters and not others?

UPDATE
Compiling from command line I found out that the class definition for oracle.oats.scripting.modules.basic.api.IteratingVUserScript is missing. Do you know what .jar file contains this class?

A music file on my iWeb website shows as a question mark and won't play. Anyone know how I can fix this?

When I view the website using Firefox, it shows and plays beautifully. But, when I view it on Safari, there is a tiny question mark where the audio control should be, and no music plays. I'd really appreciate some help with this one.

I just opened your site with Safari and on the Home page the music play straight away and then there is the player at the bottom right of the page which I can see with no problem at all.
Perhpas you need to empty your brower cache for it to display correctly - it seems to be working correctly for others here who have viewed it in Safari.
Check your preferences and perhaps clear your cookies and then empty your browser cache.

Apps replaced with question marks?

I just bought an iPhone 5s from ebay. It arrived with a US plug and US instructions even though i live in the UK and the sender was from the UK. I plugged it into my mac computer and it loaded up on iTunes then instantly chrome had to force quit and I had to report the problem. I then restarted the mac and when I logged in, all the apps were unaccessable and had large question marks where the app icon would have been before. I can still access my files and safari however iTunes, app store, chrome etc have all disappeared. I have read that they could have been deleted or moved and to relocate them back to the dock via applications folder however the apps are not in the applications folder or anywhere on the computer after doing a search. Please help!

I would return the phone for credit or contact eBay and claim the product was not as advertised.
As an aside, I would never buy a used electronic device (iPhone or anything else) on eBay (or anywhere else) unless I knew the seller personally.
