Questions about upgrading from Exchange 2010 RTM to Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3

I am preparing to perform an maintenance upgrade on our current Exchange 2010 Server, to Service Pack 3 (and any post-SP3 roll ups), but I have a couple questions about the process.
Current Exchange Server details:
Exchange 2010 Standard
Version: 14.0 (Build 639.21) - from Exchange Management Console
Version: 14.0.702.4000 - from Outook client
Active Directory forest and domain levels: Windows 2008 R2 native
The questions I have are:
1.  Can I assume that because it's version 10.0.702.4000 I am on Exchange Server 2010 RTM Update Rollup 4?
2.  Can Exchange 2010 Standard RTM be patched directly to Service Pack 3, or would I need to perform incremental patches (i.e. SP1, SP2, etc.) before going to SP3?
3.  Do I need to manually perform the AD domain schema prep before applying Service Pack 3, or will the Service Pack 3 update process automatically handle the modifications of the AD schema?

Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to:
1. Firstly, I’d like to explain , we can use connection status to check our Exchange server version from Outlook client:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/determine-the-version-of-microsoft-exchange-server-my-account-connects-to-HA010117038.aspx
And I check my version from both EMC and Outlook client. It’s same.
2. We can directly update RTM version to SP3 , and the update will take an additional 30 minutes or longer per database.
3. Since Exchange 2010 SP3 makes updates to the Active Directory schema, we need prepare AD domain schema. However, it will automatically prepare AD and the domain when you install the update.
For more information, you can refer to the following article:

If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • Questions about upgrade from iphone 3gs to iOS4.

    hello.
Anyone of you guys know that if my current 3gs is upgraded to the new iOS4, can all my apps from 3gs be able to work on the new iOS4?
Also is the battery features from the iOS4 apply on my current 3gs?
    thanks!

can all my apps from 3gs be able to work on the new iOS4?
Most of the Apps should continue to work fine, or be updated soon to work with iOS 4. Developers have had access to it for a long time, giving them chance to update their Apps if necessary.
Also is the battery features from the iOS4 apply on my current 3gs?
    What battery features?
    Nothing is shown here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/

  • Basic question about upgrading from Mac OS X 10.4.11

Very simple - how do I upgrade my Mac to run the many apps & gadgets which now require more than 10.4.11?
A friend said I'd have to change to Leopard/S Leopard. But is there another way? I think we might be confusing 2 different issues here.
    Thanks for help.

No, there is no other way.

  • Question about upgrading iTunes multiple computers with shared library

    Greetings,
I have a question about upgrading to the current version of iTunes.
Currently, my household uses 3 Mac computers (2 Powerbook 17in laptops and a Mack Mini). We are all (currently) on system 10.4.11 (with iTunes 9.2.1). Between the 3 computers we have a shared iTunes music and video library on a networked high capacity hard drive.
We recently purchased an iPad. In order to make it easy for updates and to use media from our iTunes shared library I decided that we should upgrade the systems on our home computers to Snow Leopard. I have ensured that all the computers have at lease 2 Gb of RAM and adequate hard drive space.
The only possible problem I see is that one of the Powerbook laptops uses the old Motorola processor. (This is one of the last Powerbooks to use that processor.) I don’t think this computer can be upgraded to Snow Leopard.
My question is, if I upgrade 2 of the computers (and iTunes in the process), will I still be able to access the shared iTunes library using the older computer with the older system and iTunes? Will the upgrade process change the iTunes library in such a way that the one older computer will no longer be able to properly access that library?
Are there any other problems I might encounter having a mixed system/iTunes environment?
    Thank you,
    Tim

Just a thought. Should I somehow open iTunes on MBP2 using MBP1's Library file??
both Macs can access the same library file, however, only one at a time !
to do that, you would ideally have the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) on the external. then, on one Mac after the other, launch iTunes while holding the option key, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
or, you could have two separate libraries and keep those in sync using third party tools such as Syncopation, TuneRanger or SuperSync.
for purchases from the iTunes store, you could set up _*Home Sharing*_ - it can be configured to automatically transfer new purchases to home shared libraries.
Can I create a script to have MBP1 always save the iTunes Library file on the shared hard drive?
    no need.

    1. there is no sticker on the back of the computer that gives information about the serial number of my windows 8...
    2. lets say in some magical way I could get the serial number out, can I use it to reinstall ? because Ive heard that you cannot use this CD key anyways unless you got a special win8 installation CD key from MSI because its MSI branded windows 8.

  • I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with bootcamp 3.3 on my Imac 2011. I need to updgrade to mountain lion. If I first upgrade to mountain lion, how do I go about upgrading from bootcamp 3.3 to latest bootcamp for mountain lion?

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with bootcamp 3.3 on my Imac 2011. I need to updgrade to mountain lion. If I first upgrade to mountain lion, how do I go about upgrading from bootcamp 3.3 to latest bootcamp for mountain lion?
I have seen a lot of discussions upgrading from Boot Camp 4 to 5 but no answers upgrading from boot camp 3.3 to 5. My worry is that if I upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion, that my bootcamp partition will no longer be able to boot up. There seem to be a lot of threads suggesting problems that are possible. Has anyone gone through this upgrade with success?

Before doing any installation restart OSX from your 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD and use Disk Utility to Both Repair The Disk and Repair the Permissions of your Macintosh HD.
Next remove your Snow Leopard DVD and restart your iMac into OSX.
Update to the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard by clicking the Apple icon and choose Software Update to install Snow Leopard v10.6.8, the latest version.
Use Time Machine to make a Full Backup of your Macintosh HD.
Shut down and restart into Windows by holding the Option key at the chime and selecting Windows.
Now use Windows Backup to make a Full Image Backup of your Windows Installation to a removable drive.
Shut Down and Boot back into OSX.
Open the Mac App Store from your Dock to buy and download Mountain Lion. Then follow the onscreen instructions to install it.
Upgrading your OSX to 10.8 should not effect the Windows Partition at all since you are only upgrading the Mac side. You should not have to run the Boot Camp Assitant 5 Utility in OSX at all.
Your Boot Camp 3.3 Windows Support Drivers et. al only effect your Windows installation and should continue to run fine after upgrading.
Which version of Windows do you already have installed on the existing Boot Camp Partition?
Is it 32 bit or 64 bit?

i have a mac and am thinking about upgrading from snowlepard to lion , is it a good idea and hard to adapt to

This is my "About This Mac" ... it shows I have Intel i7 CPU.  If you are running SL, you at least have Intel, but would need at least Core2Duo an 2 GB (most people suggest 4 GB) RAM.
If you want to run Lion, remember that the discussions in this forum from last summer when Lion first came out (and since) were highly charged at times.  Certain features that vanished or were added caused great heartache for some.  Others love Lion, though.  And some live with the changes waiting for any fixes they would desire.
Any PPC (PowerPC) applications you depend upon will not work under Lion.  Use this page to see what applications will not run:  http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
    AND
Recall that you can clone your SL to an external disk to keep it safe.  Then you can "experiment with" the new OSX (Lion or ML) until you know it works for you while still having your old SL safe in case you need it.
    Good luck.

  • Not sure about upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard, Sugguest??

I am thinking about upgrade from 10.5 to Snow leopard, but afraid anything would go wrong, which I can't afford that. Beside my leopard runs perfectly fine now. The only reason I am thinking about Snow leopard is I wants to install Win7 through BootCamp to open up some application only available in Windows.
There are so many problems from what I read so far for upgrading. I am just wondering if the benefits is more than the troubles?
Here is what I am scared of:
    1. lose the programs/applications I have on leopard.
    2. lose the files, program setting I have.
    3. SL create crazy problem that I cannot solve.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Here is what I am scared of:
    1. lose the programs/applications I have on leopard.
Shouldn't happen, but if anything goes wrong you could lose everything. You need to be prepared with installers and serial numbers with all your applications. This is not specific to this situation, you need that at all times. Your hard drive could decide to die tomorrow, and then where would you be?
    2. lose the files, program setting I have.
See my answer to #1. You must have backups for any data files you aren't willing to lose. If you don't have backups, that should now be your new highest priority in life if you value your data. See my [Mac Backup Guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/backups>.
    3. SL create crazy problem that I cannot solve.
Make sure your computer meets [Snow Leopard system requirements|http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html], and make sure your software is compatible:
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
You should also check any hardware, like printers, scanners, etc, to be sure that there are SL-compatible drivers. Also, it should go without saying that you should [repair the hard drive with Disk Utility|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417] before any system install or update, though many people don't actually know that, so it must be said. If your system isn't problem-free, don't consider any system updates or upgrades until the problems are solved.

  • Several Questions about upgrading APEX

    Hello,
I a several questions about upgrading APEX.
I want to upgrade my APEX 2.0 to 2.2 and hopefully in a few month to 3.0.
Is there a How To about upgrading APEX?
What would happen to my applications?
Would there be any problems about the applications when the APEX version is upgraded to another version?
    Thank you,
    Tim

    Tim,
Yes there is (detailed) upgrade documentation provided with the upgrade itself, which you should definitely look through. The 2.2 and 2.2.1 releases are currently available here -
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html
You applications will be 'upgraded' as part of the upgrade process (i.e. they will continue to work with the new software once the upgrade is complete).

  • Question about upgrade and original iPhone

There might be other thread already, but have a question about upgrade to 3G.
I have the original iPhone and have upgraded to iPhone 3G.
The question is whether I can use the original iPhone indefinitely.
People at Apple store was telling me I can use the original iPhone (without the phone functionality) as long as I don't restore the firmware.
Is this true? What happens if Apple releases firmware in the future? Would this mean that I can only use this as long as machine doesn't require restore? I wanted to give it to one of my family members so she can use it as iPod so any info would be helpful ....

My understanding is the same as the Apple Store Employee.
If you try to update the software on an iphone with no service, I believe that it will be rendered useless.
It may be possible to swap the SIM card for software upgrades, etc., not sure.

  • Upgrade SQL server 2008 r2 to latest available Service Pack in SP 2010 farm.

    Hi,
We have 2 server's in the farm ( WFE+App server and SQL server).
We are planning to upgrade SQL server 2008 r2 to latest available Service pack [10.50.6000 (SP3)] version.
So before upgrading SQL server , need to take any necessary actions from SharePoint server side ?
And once patching is done on SQL server, need to run SharePoint Configuration wizard ?
Please provide best way for this upgrade.
    Cheers,
    RameshNK

You certainly can turn off SharePoint/stop IIS if you wish, but it isn't required. SharePoint will be unavailable during a portion of the SP3 upgrade and will reconnect once SQL is back online.

  • A question about upgrades and mroe upgrades

I've got a question about the upgrade sequence and costs thereof
I have CS5.5 Production Premium. Suppose I upgrade to CS6 production Premium. If, when CS6.5 comes out and I decided to upgrade, would it be considered an upgrade from 5.5 or 6 for pricing purposes?
I presume the older the software the more expensive the upgrade but if I'm upgrading from my CS6 upgrade would it be considered an upgrade from CS5.5 9the original suite) or an upgrade from CS6?
    Thank you

You have a CS5.5 now. Now, you upgrade to CS6.
When CS6.5 come out. It will be considered as an upgrade from CS6 (and not CS5.5 which is your original suite). Hope this is clear

2.I think we need to create tablespaces ,do we need to create users as wellYou can create users, but it is not necessary. You need to pre-create tablespaces only if their characteristics/locations on the target are different than on the source.

In DBUA mode ( in the same machine only)
1.Do we need shutdown / startup restrict the databaseNo - DBUA will do this automatically for you.
2.How can we move the files to the new locationYou can after the upgrade move the datafiles to wherever you want - use the ALTER DATABASE RENAME DATAFILE (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_1004.htm#i2082829) command.
3.Can we change db_name of the databaseI do not believe this is possible with DBUA.
4.Can we use the old database as wellNo - the database will be upgraded by DBUA - there is no "old" database.
