Questions on Db Mirroring

Hi All,
I have below questions on database mirroring.
I am using sql server 2008 sp3 Developer Edition.
I am using High Availability mode (Syncronous, witness & Automatic failover).
Here is what I observed and wanted to know reason for the below behavior.
A - Principal Server
B - Mirror Server
C - Witness Server
Scenario-1
The mirroring state is SYNCRONIZED. Meaning no more log records to be sent to Mirror db.
Now, say, Witness is down
After 3 minutes later, Principal is down.
At this point, there is only my Mirror instance is running with role as Mirror.
My question here is, how can I make this Mirror as Principal.
Since my Principal and Witness is down, I cannot run below command
use master
go
ALTER DATABASE <database_name> SET PARTNER FAILOVER
go
Scenario-2
Its a continuation question on Scenario-1.
Mirroring state is SYNCRONIZED
witness is down
Principal is down
only mirror is up and running but couldnt come online.
I tried starting Witness , hoping that , mirror and witness are now connected and can form Quorum and make Mirror as Principal, but that didn't happen.
I checked below command
select name,state_Desc from sys.databases
and I can see it is in recovering state and couldn't come online.
I Even tried below so that startup is initiated and recovery can run on that database.
use <dbname>
go
IT throws me an error saying, quorum cannot be forum. Error is
Database %.*ls is enabled for Database Mirroring, but the database lacks quorum: the database cannot be opened.  Check the partner and witness connections if configured.
Question here is, even after starting my witness server , why it couldnt form a Quorum and why didnt Mirror wasnt able to become new Principal.
From the Database monitor tool, it is very evident that, Mirror and Witness are connected but only Pricipal is disconnected as it is down.
Eventually, when I started the Principal server (i.e A), it became as Principal and Mirror was Mirror (there's no change in role)
One more thing, I want to mention here is, I am not using FQDN's. Does it make any difference. I have installed 3 sql instances on my Desktop and worked on it.
Again, I have tested by bring the Principal down and it automatically failover to the Mirror server (i.e. B).
Principal  --> TCP://TESTING-PC:5022
Mirror     --> TCP://TESTING-PC:5023
Witness    --> TCP://TESTING-PC:5024
Appreciate if someone can provide comments/suggestions on Scenario-1 and Scenario-2.
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
Seems you did not reffered to document i provided in question you asked about mirroring.Anyways I will try to answer your scenario
1.>>The mirroring state is SYNCRONIZED. Meaning no more log records to be sent to Mirror db.
Wrong assumption it means your mirroring is working fine and Principal is sending log records to mirror  and mirror is trying to make changes and commit it.Its not like, no log records would be sent.
If Witness is down no effect on mirroring  now if principal is also down your mirroring is gone and since Mirror database cannot for Quorum with witness no failover will happen and you need to manually break mirroring and bring Mirror DB online.
2.In second scenario you need first break the mirroring and then recovery on mirror database.Even if you start witness i Doubt it will form quorum
--run this on mirror database
use master
go
alter database db_name set partner off
go
restore database db_name with recovery
Please read below article for understandin how Quorum works

  • Tech question re: stealth mirroring MacBook to HDTV?

    Greetings Apple family,
I understand how to mirror using the HDMI very well, that is mirroring exactly what is on my MacBook screen to the HDTV. My question therefore is, would it be possible to mirror for example only a Safari screen shot to the TV, while I'd be working on a Word file on the MacBook?
Thanks for the anticipated co-op everyone!
    God bless,

    Gr. 7 Teacher

I think you can do it.
While you're plugging the HDMI wire, go to Apple - System Preferences- then select Disply.
Next go under Arrangement and adjest your displays secreen. Choose one to display Safary and the other to work on whatever you want.
    I hope this is work!

  • [SOLVED] Questions about delta mirror/package

My bandwidth is slow and expensive so i use delta package as per this Arch Wiki.
But, for anumber of reasons the delta mirror only provide small number of delta package, and it's geographically far away from where i live so it's kind of slower.
    Here's my /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist:
    Server = http://suro.ubaya.ac.id/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
    Server = http://delta.archlinux.fr/$repo/os/$arch
First line is nearest Arch mirror dan second line is delta package mirror.
What i want to achieve with that mirrorlist is Arch download update with delta package if available, if there is no delta package avalaible for that update then Arch will download regular package from the nearest mirror.
    Thanx
EDIT: Solved it, well, kind of ...
I end up created a script for update.
    #!/bin/sh
    sed -i '/suro/s/^Server/#Server/' /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
    pacman -Syy
    sed -i '/suro/s/^#Server/Server/' /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
    pacman -Su

    OK.

The order in mirrorlist is what matters.
pacman will ask the first uncommented mirror , if that has the info required pacman uses that mirror.
If the first uncommented mirror doesn't have the info or doesn't respond, pacman will try the next uncommented mirror
Do you know if delta.archlinux.fr hosting only delta package or mirrorring all Arch package?
Because i just need delta package from this mirror, and regular package must from nearest mirror.

  • Vram failure and display mirroring question

Sorry if this has been asked before...
I have an older imac g5 ambient light sensor and have had a vram failure for the past 6 or 7 months. Recently the display has gotten to the point where it's impossible to read or see anything on it.
My question is, will mirroring show the same distorted video on an external display?
    Thanks.

Can you explain this "vram failure" in more detail?
Have you tried using these two procedures?
    Reset PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    and reset SMU
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
Whether the external display shows the same issue or not depends on the cause. If the cause is at the graphics hardware, it will probably be the same on the external display. If the cause is LCD (or the connection between the LCD and graphics hardware), then the external display should work OK.

  • Content mirroring

    Dear Guru's
I have a question about content mirroring versus copy/paste with delta links.
Currently we have used the content delivered by SAP and copy/paste it to new folders.  We have not used content mirroring for modification of the content.
What will be the impact if we import a new BP ? Will all modifications be lost ?
    Kind regards,

    Hi Stephan,
Check out the following link for a comparision between Content mirrorring and Copy/Paste as Delta link,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/ed/fd25c7c14c4094a9fbb19851d79dd1/frameset.htm
In case of Copy/Paste as Delta link, when the Business Package is updated by SAP, since the source object of your content is updated, the properties except the ones that are not inherited from the source object might get effected if you have not assigned the content into your own namespace. Make sure that you have copied the Contents into a root folder that you have created for the customer to ensure that you dont face any issues during upgrades.
    Kind Regards,

  • How do I open and close VIs from within a VI?

    Ladies and gentlemen,
I would like to use a VI to open and close other VIs based on user input.  Example:  The first VI will have text that reads:  "Does the car have heated mirrors?"  There will be two buttons: one for "YES" and the other for "NO."
If the user hits the "NO" button, the current VI will close and a similar VI will open that asks the user the next question, "Are the mirrors lighted?" "YES" or "NO..."
If the user hits the "YES" button, the current VI will close and another will open that will tell the user to "Activate the heated mirrors" and press a button that will say "NEXT."  At that point, that VI will close, and in two minutes another VI will open and ask the user "Is the driver's side mirror hot?" with another set of "Yes" or "No" buttons.  If the user presses "YES" we will have verified that the heated driver's side mirror is working properly and store that information somewhere .  If the user presses "NO", the VI will close and another VI will open with some kind of repair instruction and a button that says "RETEST" that will rerun the heated mirror test when repairs are completed.
During the two minutes we are waiting for the mirrors to heat up the program should move on to the next question: "Are the mirrors lighted?" "YES" or "NO..."
Does anyone know how to manipulate VIs in this way?  Please help!
    Drew

Instead of opening and closing vi's, just create one main vi with a state machine architecture.  Search for examples on state machines to get a basic understanding of them.  This is pretty complex so I have written an example of how this could be accomplished.  The trick part was the 2 minute timer (my vi is set for 5 seconds for quick testing).  Each state produces a question, and depending on the answer, the next state is inserted into a queue.  You can add more states for more questions and answers.  Notice that the boolean buttons can be hidden if you just want to show one button (like Next) instead of two buttons (Yes and No).  Study the vi and let me know if you have questions.

  • 1. could I connect an external USB3 drive to my macbook pro (15" MID 2010)?

Trying to connect I can't see it.
    2. Question: Is it mirroring possible with apple TV on MacBook pro 15" MID 2010?. Playing a movie with VLC can I send it to TV?
Could you please give me an advise?

    1. Of course. Your Mac will not work with the external drive at USB 3.0 speed, but you can use it as a USB 2.0 external drive.
    2. AirPlay Mirroring needs an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 As you cannot use AirPlay Mirroring, you can use an application like AirParrot or Beamer

  • [SOLVED] Can't download anything through browser

Hey hey all. Okay, so, I'm pretty much set on keeping Arch now. Some info on my system:
    - LXDE
    - i686 on an Intel Core2Duo machine
    - Everything's updated
    - Firefox/Gran Paradiso browser
Now, the problem: quite literally, nothing downloads. I was on box-look trying to pick up some new OpenBox themes, and when I clicked on a download link, it asked me "open or save", but then the file didn't download. So I went to DeviantArt. Same deal. No links I click on through my browser will download. What gives?
EDIT: sorry, I'm an idiot. Somehow, when I created the folder, the permissions were screwy. I had copied my Downloads folder from an external HD and for some reason it gave full permissions for everything except "write" for the folder owner. My bad, guys.

  • Lost system disks - help!

I have a G4 at work that was running 9.2.2 and recently the hard drive died. My system disks have been 'borrowed' and not returned by someone so IT Support have tried installing 9.1 disks from an earlier Power Mac onto the new hard drive but that doesn't work. They also think a generic 9.2.1 disk won't work either. Is that right and if so how can I get hold of the right disks? Thanks!
G4 Mirrored drive doors   Mac OS 9.2.x

    Hi, Neet -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
... IT Support have tried installing 9.1 disks from an earlier Power Mac onto the new hard drive but that doesn't work. They also think a generic 9.2.1 disk won't work either.
Is that right and if so how can I get hold of the right disks?
If the G4 in question is a Mirrored Drive Door (MDD) model, then yes, that's correct.
The original disks that came with the machine installed a model-specific version of OS 9.2.2. No earlier version will install - and there are no retail (universal) OS 9.2.2 Install CDs.
The only source for a bootable OS 9 install for those models is from the original disks that came with the machine. You may be able to get replacement original disk by contacting Apple's Customer Support -
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
    <hr>
If you need OS 9 solely for use as Classic under OSX, there are other possibilities -
    • copy a working OS 9 System Folder from another machine (OS 9.1 or later; OS 9.2.x would be better).
    • copy the System Folder from an OS 9.2.1 Install CD. Note, though, that there are very few control panels and extensions in the System Folder on an OS 9 Install CD; many services will not be available.
OS 9 System Folders retain their integrity and functionality when copied using a simple Finder copy process (drag and drop) - cloning is not necessary.
However, neither of those two options will result in a bootable OS 9. If you need a bootable OS 9.2.2, you will need to use an original disk set for that model.

  • Questions on running an Arch Mirror

Questions on running an Arch Mirror
Does anyone here run a public arch mirror that can give me any idea of bandwith they use ?
Is there any issues with running the Current and Extra mirrors in the US ?
Is there any issues with running the Community mirror in the US ?
Mostly I would like to know what bandwidth consumption on a public mirror is for the mirrors that are normally used.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think he would mind this info being posted... i emailed him asking for the bandwidth info for the server for a one month period.... an average.......
    - we dont have
a record of actual data transferred, just the amount requested (which
    stands at 5440.17 GB).
My server only allows approx 2500 GB transfer per month... so, until i can find a way to upgrade that, I won't make it a public server.... if i did, i'd owe WAY too much money at the end of every month

  • Mirroring Question

I'm trying to mirror some iMac G5's (20" 2.0 GHz). I understand I need a mini-vga to vga adapter. I will also need a monitor. My question is what is the highest resolution I can get with this video output? Some are saying that vga has a maximum of 1024x768. Others say it depends on how high the monitor can go.
So is it possible to achieve a 1680x1050 on both displays at the same time?

"So is it possible to achieve a 1680x1050 on both displays at the same time? "
It should, as long as the other display supports it. Apple says that it will try to match resolution to the external display and may have to letterbox it.
in theory, the external display will show exactly what the built-in one does.

  • Mirrored RAID Question

Possibly a dumb question: If Mac OSX (10.4.11 in this case) boots from a mirrored RAID (2 drives), is there any additional protection from routine disk directory errors? Again, I'm not asking about the physical failure of one of the drives, but from the type of directory errors that sometimes happen after a system freeze or loss of AC power to the system.
Another way of asking the same question: Will disk directory errors in one drive be automatically mirrored in the second drive, or will the second drive not have the same directory errors?
Background: I've got an older G4 tower with two identical drives installed that I use as a play/experiment computer. I can either keep the two drives totally independent and do daily (or even more often) total, bootable backups from the primary to the backup drive, or else configure as a mirrored RAID.
    Thanks.

Both drives should be on independent bus or using a controller. The MDD has two buses, but ATA/66 and ATA/100 differ by 4% and enough difference to not recommend using two drives in any form of stripped or mirrored RAID.
Two drives on same bus, master/slave I would avoid as the bus has to wait for one drive for I/O before it can talk to the second drive.
With an SATA no such problem or limitation, or using an ATA controller with two independent channels.

  • Mirrored RAID Set Questions

I initially set up a mirrored RAID set up on my system drive as a means of backing up my files. I've since decided I'd like to use Time Machine instead. When I try and break up the RAID set using Disk Utility, a lock icon appears next to the RAID set and I'm unable to "delete" the set.  My guess is that I need to reboot off a different system, but since Lion didn't come with an install disc, and since Lion doesn't set up a Recovery HD on RAID sets, how would I go about unlinking this mirrored RAID set?
Conversely, I inadvertantly unlinked a different RAID set and would like to reconnect them, but Disk Utility says it'll erase all the data on the drives before it establishes the connection.  Is there a way to reconnect a mirrored RAID set that has been disconnected?

For the first question, go back to the App Store download Lion again but before it begins the install stop the process and create a flash drive installer. See How to make a bootable Lion install disc or drive .
Remember you have to make sure the install process doesn;t proceed because once Lion is installed the installer app will be removed from your HD.
Sorry can;t help with the second question.
    regards

  • Mirroring Disk Drive Question.  Using SVM for Disk Mirroring.

    Hello,
I am trying to do mirror in solaris 9 using Solaris Volume Manager. I have total 0-7 disks
    4 5 6 7
    0 1 2 3
Drive 0 and Drive 4 = Boot Drives
    Need to Mirror following drives.
Drive 1 and Drive 5 = Need to mirror
    Drive 1 was mounted on: /prod1, /prod2, /prod3, /prod4, /prod5.
    Drive 5 was mounted on:/prod16-----/prod20
Then i have umounted both drives and then using format command to equalize the parititions.
    Then
    I have done following steps.
    metadb -a -f /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s7
    metadb -a -f /dev/dsk/c1t5d0s7
    2)
    metainit -f d100 1 1 c1t1d0s0
    metainit -f d101 1 1 c1t5d0s0
    metainit d0 -m d100
    metattach d0 d101
    3)
    # newfs /dev/md/rdsk/d0
newfs: /dev/md/rdsk/d0 last mounted as /prod16
    newfs: construct a new file system /dev/md/rdsk/d0: (y/n)? y
    4)
    # mount -F ufs /dev/md/dsk/d0 /prod16
Now, target 5 is submirror with target 1 mirror. I was wanted to do /prod1 but some reason it showing /prod16. How can i change this to /prod1?
    OR
2nd question: do i need to mirror each drive vice verse?
    for example:
    metainit -f d102 1 1 c1t5d0s0
    metainit -f d103 1 1 c1t1d0s0
    metainit d1 -m d102
    metattach d1 d103
    Let me know.
    Thanks
    Adeel

I do it a little differently, as follows, which I gleaned from http://slacksite.com/solaris/disksuite/disksuite.html
Create state replicas on slices 6 & 7 (any could be used but we usually use 6/7)
    metadb -a -f /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s6
    metadb -a /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s7
    metadb -a -f /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s6
    metadb -a /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s7
Initialize submirrors for root slice 0 on both drives, and create one-way mirror between metadevice d0 & first sub-mirror
    metainit -f d10 1 1 c1t1d0s0
    metainit -f d20 1 1 c1t1d0s0
    metainit d0 -m d10
    update root entry in /etc/vfstab
    metaroot d0
Initialize submirrors for swap slice on both drives, and create one-way mirror between metadevice d1 & first sub-mirror
    metainit -f d11 1 1 c1t0d0s1
    metainit -f d21 1 1 c1t1d0s1
    metainit d1 -m d11
Initialize submirrors for /var slice5 on both drives, and create one-way mirror between metadevice d5 & first sub-mirror.
    metainit -f d15 1 1 c1t0d0s5
    metainit -f d20 1 1 c1t1d0s5
    metainit d5 -m d15
    Edit /etc/vfstab
    add these lines to /etc/vfstab
    /dev/md/dsk/d1 - - swap - no -
    /dev/md/dsk/d5 /dev/md/rdsk/d5 /var ufs 1 no logging
    REBOOT server
Attach second half of mirrors to allow two drives to synchronize
    metattach d0 d20
    metattach d1 d21
    metattach d2 d25
    I hope this helps.
