Questions on graphs and charts.,,,

Hi ,
I have always been facing problem while working with graphs and charts. First of all let me be clear with the data these accept. further questions as under:
1. If I wire an array (1-dimention) to graph/chart , it plots it on Y axis. In this case, what are the values on x.axis?
2. If I want to acquire a voltage on Analog I/P channel for some specified time , say 2 sec., how to ensure that time span and data without missing anyone.
3. If I have to plot an I-V plot, how to make sure that V will come on Y-axis and I will come on X-axis.
Plz clear these doubts...

GNS

Hi,
1. Charts takes sigle point value like plotting DC voltages, Graph takes set of values like arrays (1D) which are plotted on Y-axis with respect to x axis which is integer number like 0,1,2..etc.. ,
XY graph takes bundled array of X-axis & Y axis.
2. Charts are used where a single point value is to be presented/updated w.r.t. to time or x scale (x scale can also act an index).
Also it supports update modes like sweep, scope & strip.
3. Graph are used to plot waveforms which does have no. of samples acquired from DAQ board or other source, which needs to be plot on Y-axis.
Main inputs of waveforms are starting time (t0), time stpes(dt) & Y elements.
4.X-Y graphs are used where you want to plot Y elements w.r.t. to the defined X eleme
nts. For e.g. I want to plot as
Y=10 when X = 0
Y=20 when X = 2
Y=30 when X = 3
etc.
Here we have one array of Y elements & other array of X elements. So bundle your X & Y array & fetch to XY graph to plot it.
Hope it clears you the concepts. Your feedbacks are welcome.

  • Collaboration with AI graphs and charts

Hi I am working with infographics and I want to use FC to move them from print to online. Unfortunately, once I tried to transfer an AI file with a pie chart to Flash Catalyst, it was imported as a bitmap, with no editing possibilities.
I would like to ask: is it possible to work around this and have an editable chart in Flash Catalyst? Do I have to look at Flash charts (like amCharts, for example) and drop them as .swf into my FC file?
    Thanks for reading, awaiting suggestions

Bill, why not directly giving you a solution -there is alot of work going on in adding charting and graph support for future release of Jdeveloper....of course, that does not stop you using some graphing and charting features now but the new added features make the charting side of things much more drag and drop.

  • Graphs and Charts in ADF Faces Applications

Has anyone had luck implementing graphs and charts in an ADF Faces application?
I experimented with Oracle's BI Bean control a while back. But I think Oracle has yet to provide support for BI Beans in JDev 10.1.3. Does anyone know what Oracle's plans are for BI Bean support in JDev? Or what Oracle's plans are for providing ADF Faces graph and chart controls? It would make sense to me since Oracle has much experience with graph and chart controls and to their credit has developed over 100 ADF Faces controls which comprise one of the richest JSF implementations available.
I also looked briefly at JFreeChart for which open source is provided at apache.org and I believe someone had even taken a shot at encapsulating JFreeChart into JSF controls and posting the source at apache.org. Has anyone had experience with this?

  • UI of Graphs and Charts in OA Framework

    Hi All,
Charts and Graphs can be added in OA Framework.
However, can these charts & graphs be modified in terms of changing the colors of the graphs and charts.
Say for a Pie Chart, different slices can have different colors?
    Is this possible?
If so, then how can this be achieved?
    Thks

    Hi Ravi,
    You have the below document,
    Oracle Applications Framework:
    Developer's Guide,
    Personalization Guide
    and
    Tutorial Lessons
In that there is a section
    Lesson 14: Charts and Graphs

I'm trying to work in numbers on an Excel spreadsheet that I e-mailed to it. Numbers moves the graphs and charts around. How do I get it to transfer cleanly into numbers?

If you really need to work in excel and you need to collaborate with others in excel you should avoid the frustration and use excel.  I would only recommend using Numbers if you are using it to open a file you do not intend to open in excel again OR if the document is very simple.  If you paycheck or grade depends on Numbers importing or exports from/to excel you should use excel directly.

  • Graphs and Charts have to be displayed in Excel

    Hello,
The product that we are developing has got lot of client specific reports to be
generated, we would be embedding it within the application. It's a JAVA,J2EE
    based product.
We have a requirement where graphs and charts have to be displayed
in Excel sheets, does your reporting engine support that. We wanted to find out
if this features is actually supported.
We have tried out other reporting tools as well but had to disregard them due
to the lack of this feature only, so this feature has become one of the most
important deciding factor for selecting Crystal Reports as report development tool . Our clients prefer exporting most of the reports generated to excel.
If this feature is not there right now, How early can we expect this feature,
Is this planned in the next realease ?

  • Does Measurment Studio Standerd edition contains graph and chart ActiveX controls for VB6

    A Very Simple quistion:
Does Measurment Studio Standerd edition contains graph and chart ActiveX controls for VB6?

    Shady -
Measurement Studio 7.0 Standard Edition provides support for Visual C++ 2003, Visual Basic .NET 2003, and Visual C# 2003. It just so happens that the Visual C++ support includes ActiveX controls, which are usable in VB6. The CWGraph ActiveX control provides both graphing and charting functionality.
However, full Visual Basic 6 support, including examples and documentation is not in the Standard edition. It is in the Professional and Enterprise Editions.
The best thing to do would be for us to get in direct contact with each other to make sure that we get you exactly the (minimum) package you need. If your profile includes your email address, we can contact you. Otherwise, you'll need to go through ni.com/support and refer to t
his discussion thread to open a direct dialogue.

  • Styles for graphs and charts?

    Hello,
I am trying to find out if there is a way to save a graph style, as you would do a paragraph style. This is mainly due to the fact that I need to create about 250 charts in illustrator, and I would really appreciate if I could automate some of the graph or chart creation process, as where I could define a style and then just apply it, meaning the colors, position, size, and font.
What do you guys think? How would you approach it?
I'm even having a hard time making the graphs look the way I want them to.
Thanks in advance for any input you can give me.

    Enrique:
So where can I learn the right way to convert my excel data to XML that Variables will accept, and also about your script, could it be adapted to create the Data Sets for the graphs? And if so, is it available for download or  purchase?
I'm afraid I don't really know how to massage an XML file into what Illustrator wants. I've done a little reading about XML, but it bores me to death, seems quite cumbersome, and I've yet to have any real need for it. So far, every time I thought I might need it, I've worked the solution more directly in FileMaker.
If I remember correctly, in my dinking around with XML, I found that FileMaker could export XML that InDesign could deal with unaltered; but not Illustrator.
Especially given that all your Graphs require the same number and arrangements of values, though, I would think an ordinary manual find/replace routine in a text editor should do in your case:
Use the first set of values from one of your Excel files to build the first graph.
Bind the Graph as a Variable. Capture its DataSet.
Edit the Data from the second spreadsheet in the Graph Data Dialog. Capture its DataSet.
Now you have a Variable Graph, with two DataSets. Export the DataSets as a Variables Library.
Open the Variables Library in a text editor. You can see how the two DataSets are structured and tagged. That should be fairly easy to use as a guide for a few Find/Replace routines in Word or some other text editor Copy/Paste the data from the various spreadsheets. Then use Find/Replace to semi-automate the addition of the XML tags. When done, Copy all that and paste it into place in the Variables Library you exported. Reimport the edited Library into AI.
All things considered, though, that's probably as much work as simply right-clicking the Graph, select Data from the cursor menu, Click the Import Data button in the Data Dialog, and selecting the next spreadsheet in the folder. Export as PDF. Repeat. If you decided to do that, you could at least have a couple of Actions to invoke the DataDialog, and to Save A Copy as PDF. That would at least reduce those operations to a single click each.
Although I haven't time to try it right now, I do suspect it would be a fairly simple scripting task to adapt my VFTROU script to generate DataSets for a Graph.
Finally, though: Your graph sample doesn't appear to be graphics intensive at all. Why not just make the graphs in Excel and export to PDFs that you can place in InDesign? I'm wondering why you feel you need Illustrator involved in this at all.

  • Is there a program (or widget) for making simple x/y graphs and charts/

    Hey all,
I am writing a book, and want to make a completely simple graph with just two variables: Month and Page Number.
I would also like to make similar graphs that would show progress by the week, and by the year.
This should be totally simple, but I've not been able to find any downloadable widget or applet that will do this. Which leaves me with Excel. I have never used Excel, and the prospect of facing that learning curve simply to make a graph this dirt-basic is not appealing. Can anyone help?

I fear my previous post may have sounded rude, and I apologize if it did. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful for the suggestions, I was just 1)venting my frustration at how difficult it is proving to perform a simple task and 2) wondering aloud that isn't it remarkable that such a task should not have a simple software solution.
I also freely acknowledge my limitations in math and statistics, having never had anything to do with either of them since high school. I also know that there are plenty of programs that CAN perform this task, but it is amazing to me how user-hostile they are. If you assume that the user is coming to this with no particular math or stats expertise, the interfaces IMHO look preposterous.
Jeff, I took a look at Plot again, and did what you suggested. First I typed a list of 7 dates in one column, and a list of increasing numbers in the next. I couldn't paste it into Plot. So I went back and removed the month names from the list of dates, leaving only the numbers (thus excluding one of the two crucial pieces of information). This time it was easy to paste, and I was encouraged by how a graph instantly formed in more or less the shape I wanted. Of course the X axis was not labeled so there was no way of actually reading the graph, but it's a good beginning.
But then comes the interface. You want to know how to indicate that the x axis represents daily increments in the course of a month (or a year, or a week). Open Help and you get taken to the company home page (not usually what you want). Type in timeline, and you get nothing. Type in time, and you get Time Format. Right near the top it says "To convert a UNIX time to a Plot time simply subtract 978307200.0 from the UNIX time." That may mean something to someone, but it doesn't to me. Underneath this, there's a list of Time Format Tokes. Tokes? Underneath this, a long list of things like "%a, %A, %b" etc. Type in "year" and you get 3 selections. So you choose "Axis", and it says, "If your axis is a time axis you have to enter days:hours:minutes:seconds." No mention of the year, notice. I typed it in anyway, and absolutely nothing happened. Tried some variations, nothing happened. Enough.
Now, I don't doubt that if I spent hours on the Web with their Help, and a lot of trial and error, that I would eventually get a graph I liked. But I remain amazed that in this day and age software isn't easier to use. The simplest tryout with a novice would show a developer what would make it infinitely easier to use. Why not templates with various time axes available? Why not a question and response system. It seems like a no-brainer. Since the beginning of computers, the idea has been that you enter data, and then the software does something with it. But programs still come along that make it quite mysterious as to how you enter data--and then they don't do much with it, until you devote your life to studying the documentation. Imagine how popular Quicken would be if you could only "import" data, and not type it in, or if you had to input the monetary system every time, and explain that you were using the Gregorian Calendar--or Mac and not Unix for that matter.
I just used Craigslist for the first time on Saturday and found it a complete delight. Does exactly what you want it to do--faster, easier, cheaper, and better in all ways to what we previously had for classified ads. That's what I would consider a good program, and it amazes me how difficult most programs are, even to the computer-savvy. Again, this is just my expression of dismay, and is in no way intended to minimize the usefulness of this forum--which I use a LOT, and find easy, responsive and friendly. All best, everyone.

  • Themes For Graphs and Charts??/

On the apple website with iWork, it shows a bar graph that has marble on it and a wood one. How do I get those?

I don't know that the wood and marble images in particular are included with Pages. But, you can change the texture of your graphs yourself.
    1. Click on your graph (your selection is indicated by blue frame)
    2. Click on an individual element in your chart (bars, pie piece, etc)
    3. Choose "Graphic" in the inspector palette (it's the shapes icon after the "T"ext)
    4. Under the Fill pop-up, choose "Image fill";
An "Open" dialog box prompts you to choose a graphic file.
Browse the internet for images of anything you like - i.e. wood and marble. Keep in mind the appropriate resolution you will need for print is around 300 dpi.
Optionally, whip out that slick digital camera and start walking. The mall department stores ususally have marble, Town hall, etc. There is usually some beautiful wood for you to photograph at your local bar ; )
Software solutions exist too. I used to own a copy of Texturescapes that did a slick job of creating faux wood and marble (I don't know if it's still around). Photoshop also has some actions to create textures (search: photoshop actions).
