Quick Concern

I just bought a 5th generation ipod to replace my ipod mini and i love it! the only concern i have right now is that when i move my ipod around, sometimes there's a rattling sound, like something is loose. everything on my pod works and i bought apple care with it too, but i was just wondering if this could be or lead to anything serious?

I recommend that you bring it back to the store and have a genius listen to it.

  • CPU DDR BIOS Help

    Hey There,
I have a quick concern, and I know one of you smart guys(or gals) can assist me!  I have just recently Upgraded, from Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz, to the Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with 800Mhz Front side bus.  Before I get into my BIOS issue, one side question: What are the Benefits to HTT, and are there any performance Downsides, I should worry about?  Now my real issue, i need help with the Bios Settings.  For the CPU speed, I have it set to 200 Mhz, which from what I have been told will set it 800(200 X 4), but now it keeps My memory Speed at 333mhz.  I use Memory at 400 MHZ, and the only way I can chngd the memory speed, is to chng the CPU speed from 200 mhz to a higher number, which then causes my system to crash aftr entering Windows.  Going from P4 2.4 with 533 FSB to 3.0 with 800FSB has seen a huge chng, but I dont know if i am shortchanging myself by not getting the Memory at 400 MHZ.  Once I install my X800 card today, I dont expect any speed drops with MOST games at full power.  Thats my end goal, so ever little tweak I can do without having to Overclock helps.  If anyone has any opinions about the Geforce 6800 vs. Ati X800 I'd Love to hear those.  I was a fan of The Geforce Ti 4600 line which I have in one system, but when Radeon dropped the 9XXX crds on me, and I got 9700 Pro it chngd my gaming life for Good.  Now I just want whats best.  Thank you very much in advance for any help.  And please reply as many times as you like, i want all advice and opinions...Thanks!
    My System Specs:

    Hi Lone Wolf 04,
As Danny has said......mixed mem modules will cause in-stability....
Yes, if you have a matched pair of DDR400 you will see difference.....
If you have a matched pair of DDR333, you will see a difference over un-matched pair of DDR400.........
There is the cheap option........2 sticks of same brand mem......BUT, must be same onboard chips...... (Winboard & M-tec not same......)

  • Quick question concerned with external HD space

    just a quick question
if TM only backs up files that have changed since the last backup
why does every time it back up i end up with a folder in my external HD (that acts as a time machine) that is the same size of the hard drive?
(e.g im using up 70 gigs on my macbooks HD..every time i back up with TM i end up with 70 gigs less on the external..should i just lose the space of the changed folders? :S)

That's the "magic" (or "smoke and mirrors") of Time Machine.
It makes "hard links" (sort of like multiple aliases) to the backups of the items that didn't change. That makes each backup, in effect, a full one.
That's how when you go into the "Star Wars" display, it can show you a snapshot of your entire system at the time of any backup.
If you look at your backups via the Finder, each dated backup folder is counting all those items that didn't change; so each one appears to be a full copy of your Mac. The sum of all the backup folders will be far greater than the amount used on the whole backup disk.
By the way, be +*extremely careful+* using the Finder on your backups -- if you change, move, or delete anything there, you can hopelessly corrupt them.
You can do everything you need to via TM.

  • Some quick thoughts and concerns

First let me say I LOVE Coldfusion and love working with it as much as possible. With that said, I see, hear, and read alot of negative comments and just general all out bashing of coldfusion in other forums and settings. Obviously, this forum might be slightly biased, but I dont understand why CF is not more widely accepted and used today. I can see how people are completely turned off from CF simply by finding out the price of the software. The other free alternatives, while not as easy to learn, are much more overlooked for their faults and learning curve simply because it's free. One of my concerns for the future of CF is how much longer can Adobe justify the price of CF when already there are open source alternatives available like blue dragon or railo. Again, I'm not here bashing CF, I love it! and want to continue using it, but with very little support by the countless hosting providers, and with industry support moving further away from CF, I would love to see a solution.
I guess I still dont understand why CF and many Adobe products, in particular Dreamweaver, hasn't procurred a more substanial share of the industry market. Kinda makes me sad! lol
Any thoughts or ideas on this subject welcomed.

I've been in the CF world for over a decade, and I've seen this endless debate pop up many times.  And, I have to say, I agree with Adam (Lehman).  He made a couple of really good points. I know I'm coming in late to the party on this one, but here's my $0.02.
It seems to me the main reason that people want CF to be as popular as PHP/Ruby/.NET is for job security.  Plain and simple, when they decide to (or have to) get another job, they want to be able have multiple choices readily available instead of having to hunt for a CF job, or take a job using another language.  I know the feeling, I switched jobs almost a year ago.  And, truth be told, when I was looking for a new job there were only a small handfull of CF jobs avaialable in my area.  But, they were good, solid jobs with excellent pay and employers eager to bring on new talent.  The time span between first interveiw and job offer was about a week.  They knew what they wanted, had the money, and were ready to move.
There's a company here in Nashville that's a pretty big CF shop.  They've got 30+ ColdFusion developers, and are hiring more all of the time.  They advertise for PHP, Java, Ruby, .Net, etc..., programmers and just teach them CF once they're hired.  They usually have them up to speed (and certified) within the first 90 days.  I think what a lot people fail to realize is, that if every business was using CF and every programmer knew CF, then the market would be overrun and us CF guys would be a dime a dozen and working off of Craigs List for $10 per hour like the PHP guys are.
When it comes to open source software, my boss at my first IT job told me something that I will never forget.  He said, "open source software is free...if your time is worthless."  What he meant by that was, it may not have a purchase price, but you'll have to dedicate your time to setting it up, configuring, troubleshooting, scouring the Interwebs for answers, more troubleshooting, etc...You have to weigh the purchase price of the product (or lack thereof) with the amount of your time (or your employees time) in setting it up and getting everything working correctly.  Have any of you ever tried to install and configure Hibernate?  It's a monster.  The fact that it comes installed, configured, and ready to go with a CF "click, click, done" installer is worth the purchase price of ColdFusion.  Not to mention all of the incredibly complex other stuff CF comes bundled with ready to go.
Back to my quote about open source software.  It's already been mentioned that there are some open source CFML engines out there, and I'll admin I'm a big fan of Railo.  I use it a lot.  I consider it my "CF-lite".  I use it for the non-profit work I do, and the small mom-n-pop "sell grandma's jelly online" sites that I do, and my little play projects and experiment code.  And, for me personally, I've about decided that it's almost not worth it for me to fool with it.  Nothing against Railo, it's a fabulous product that works really well, but I don't have to the time to get involved in the java underbelly of it like I need to be able to do the stuff I want to with it.  And, judging from some of the recent rants raging on the Railo mailing list, a lot of other people are starting to feel that way.  I wish I did have the time, I'd really love to learn more about that side of the world, but I can't justify spending the time to learn it.  Now I'm faced with actually having to pay experts to come in and install/configure/setup some of the things I want to do, because my time is not worthless and neither is theirs.
I agree with Adam that ColdFusion is a premium web development platform, and for what it offers it is well worth the price. Do I wish that CF was a little more popluar?  Yep.  Do I wish I didn't get the funny looks when I tell people (especially the "web-hippies" right out school) that's what I use?  Abosuletly.  Do I want CF to be as mainstream as the other languages?  Heck no!  I'm a full time CF developer at my day job, and I do a considerable amount of side work for companies all over the country.  I like my services being in demand.
Now, where do I sign up for that free Mustang?

  • A quick question concerning replacing the DVD drive in a HP pavillion dv6-2057cl

I need to replace the DVD drive in this dv6 and I am wondering if there is any wiggle room when it comes to the replacement drive.  Can I use another HP disc drive with a similar model # or am I restricted to the "identical" drive?
    Some quick info follows:
    OS = Windows 7 home premieum (32bit)
The drive pulled out of the laptop:
    Super Multi DVD Rewriter
    MODEL: GT20L
    FW        : DC05
    HW       : A2
    TYPE    : AMCK702
    CT : 7AXVK012GY3NRY
    HP mPC PN : 461646-6C2
    S/N :
    {Removed for privacy}
    MANUFACTURED : OCTOBER 2008
I have found a replacement with the same "Model #" and same "HP mPC PN" however it was manufactured in 2009 and I do not know if the placement of the SATA connection on the rear of the drive matches up or not.
    Any help is much appreciated!!!!!!
    Thank you,

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It looks like the part number is the same. As long as the part number is the same, it is essentially the same part and should work without any issues. The only time that part may not work is if the part number is different. If any part is different from another part (firmware, hardware, etc.), it will have a different part number. As long as 461646-6C2 is the same on both, there shouldn't be any issue with replacing the drive.

  • Quick Poll! CONCERNING: Water cooling!

Just want to ask some of you experienced guys what the best water cooling around is!

That question will change with each person you ask. I like the products from D-Tek Customs myself. Although Swiftech and Dangerden are good also.
If you want a run down on parts I would say
    1) Cascade waterblock by "cathar"
    2) Eheim 1250 pump
    3) A big radiator, say from D-Tek
    4) An in-line system is said to be better than one with a reservoir. But I prefer the benefits of a reservoir.
    5) Make everything 1/2 inside diameter. And if you buy from different companies make sure everything is the same diameter.

  • Quick & dirty concerning Java sound?

I want to capture a song from a CD and play it in a Java applet- no problem capturing it as a .wav file or whatever, using RealJukebox, etc.
My question is what kind of compression to use, since an uncompressed CD wave file would be tough on 56k connections (even though Java sound apparently can stream) and take up a lot of disk space. Is JMStudio useful for compressing?

Thanks- I've seen that. I've also seen some contradictory (presumably older) documentation at http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/applet/appletsonly/sound.html claiming that Java sound only supports the .au format. I'm not familiar with .au or .aiff and I was hoping maybe somebody knows what's useful for conpressing a song from CD to fair quality & low bit-rate. On the other hand, this tidbit:
"Problem: Some of my audio files won't play.
Solution: You cannot play WAV, AU, AIFF, or AU files compressed using ADPCM or other compression schemes. The Java Sound engine supports only linear PCM audio files."
makes it sound as if I can forget about low bit-rate...

  • Quick question concerning "load movie"

    Hi,
I'm sure this is a dead simple question, but I'm not sure
about syntax. Basically I have several buttons which when pressed
load a new swf into a movie clip _root. I want each different
button to take the viewer to to a different frame in the loaded
movie. So button 2, would open the new swf at frame 1, button 2,
would open the new swf at frame 2, etc.
This is the script I'm using to load the new swf:
    on (release) {
    _root.bigphoto.loadMovie("big photos.swf");
What should I add to it?
    Many thanks.

  • A few days into having the Z10- MY pros/cons/thoughts/concerns/praises/etc....

*Let me preface this by saying I just want to lay it all out on the table- you may take it with a grain of salt, or feel free to comment!*
I have been a very loyal blackberry customer since 2007- I've had their curves, bolds, and torches, and I currently own the Torch 9810. Blackberry has been a fantastic company, and I've always loved owning a blackberry. I was EXTREMELY excited when I found out that they were releasing a new operating system as well as two phones, so, on the 22nd, when AT&T released the Z10, I went and bought it outright so that I could play around with the OS. Man on man, can I say how brilliant Blackberry has done with their new line of phones. The Z10 is sleek, sexy, quick, and unlike anything out there. I played around with it for quite some time, and the following are things that I've thought about it:
    Good things/good features/wow effect:
    - huge, bright, and wonderful screen
    - quick interface and smooth OS
    - loved being able to access the camera without having to go into the phone
    - THE CAMERA!! WOW As all BB users can tell you, it is 100fold better; it's quick, it takes crisp and clear pictures, and comes with image enhancements, it's easy to use, and there are so many options within the camera application.
    - I was able to transfer my texts, calender, contacts, and memos from OS7 to OS10
    - I love being able to see my calender events on the 'lock screen'
    - the HUB is quite a cool feature that consolidates many things
    - call quality is great!
    - the virtual keyboard is the best out there
    - the 'sleep mode' screen is really awesome- the one that shows the clock, and alarm settings
    - cool little features like when you want to power off the phone, and it prompts you to hold down the power button for 3 seconds
    - NOT HAVING TO DO A BAT PULL EVERY TIME YOU DOWNLOADED A NEW APP!
    - being able to folder up items on the home screen
    - media sharing!!! connecting to a TV or PC or other DLNA supported devices
*this list isn't a fully extensive list, but these are the things I could think of right away*
    Concerns/not so good things/problems/things I actually miss from OS7:
    - Physical keyboard (YES, I know- the Q10 will be coming out soon... anyone know an official AT&T date???)
    - back button and trackball/pad (that was blackberry classic!!)
    - being able to determine how long the vibrate for text/bbm/emails/phone calls/etc
    - APPS, APPS, APPS.... I just don't understand why so many apps from OS7 aren't there!! (BBuzz, Skype, Point, Shazam, Google Maps [not the blackberry version, but the regular google maps], and BBVA Compass Bank mobile banking were the ones that I HAD, but no longer would have on the Z10) <-- when developers ask what apps people want, well... simple.. GO LOOK AT WHAT iPhone IS DOING!
    - facebook SUCKS on the new OS, and, well, it sucked on OS7 too, which is why I only used the 'mobile site'... now the BB10 mobile site sucks!! :/// I've only been able to check facebook from my computer except when I get updates!
    - ACTIVE FRAMES!! WTF is that??? I had to purchase an LED/vibrate notifications app, but it only works if it's running in the active frames........ hate that... with a passion
    - phone contacts and facebook contacts are merged and i hate that too!!! Ive tried all different ways to no avail to get that option off
    - text messages, BBM, contacts, and 'reminders' lag
    - the HUB and having everything consolidated... not a fan of that at all. I want email with email, texts with texts, and facebook with facebook. Maybe I'm paranoid, but consolidation scares me
    - battery life is NOT very good, even though they tout the battery being the biggest yet
    - I miss the way photos were categorized with BB7, and the whole media application was better on 7
    - what happened to voice notes and voice notes recorder??
    - I wish the 'memo pad' was back instead of it being called 'reminders' on BB10
    - I feel like BB7 was just easier to use then BB10
    - gestures, albeit being an awesome feature, is really hard to get used to. I want the back button and trackpad back!! made life SO much easier
*this too isn't a fully extensive list, BUT, because of most of these things, I am returning the Z10 tomorrow.*
I wish Blackberry would contact me and talk with me about the good/bad/neg/pos things about the new Z10!! There are some amazing updates and features, but I feel BB may have overreached a bit on a few things.
Phew! I just needed to vent and get all of that out there.
Let me end by saying that Blackberry has surly come around and made a dramatic turn around in the way they build phones. The phone itself is amazing, and there are great things about it. Unfortunately, MY cons have outweighed the pros right now- I just hope things get even better. BLACKBERRY- CONTACT ME AND TALK WITH ME....
Until next time, I hope you BBers have a fantastic week!!

  • My iTunes will ONLY backup my iPhone ONCE *SO* VERY quickly, almost as if it's done nothing... (not the three options for rollback as promised) HELP! Please Read...

    Hi there,
thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this, but, my iTunes will perform a backup on my iPhone ONCE. By which I mean, it will do another new backup again if I want it to, and that's all fine... but it's supposed to hold (I think) THREE states of backup that the user has saved at various points in order that the user can choose and rollback/restore from whichever one they want.
There is none of that. I get the drop-down menu if I choose to restore... but it's pointless as there's only ever one option.
At the moment, no matter how close together I perform the backups, or how far apart... I get ONE backup saved in my iTunes.
As far as I can tell this is also ONE backup between iCloud or the computer. i.e. I don't get one for each. Just whichever I performed most recently.
iTunes absolutely DID NOT used to do this. I used to get the three options and it took a little bit of a wait for the backup process to go through fully.
Can anybody help or shed some light on this?
As a sidenote: It's slightly concerning that the backup process it performs is now lightning quick and it almost seems as if it's doing nothing, when in fact my iPhone is absolutely, irresponsibly rammed with everything... hence the worrying need for backups and solving this issue etc. etc.
Please can anyone help me with this, or even give a little support?
P.S. Yes, I fully anticipate being told not to have my iPhone so stuffed etc. etc. It's got about 1-2gb free and I figure you should get to use what you pay for
Thank you so much in advance.

I have to say, this is so weird because it's actually become this way in the past week maybe, and I'm sure me saying this here will be disputed, ridiculed and belittled, and that's absolutely fair, but I've got to say it... up until a few days ago, my iTunes sync/backup area really would keep more than one backup for my one, single iPhone. They were all timed and dated with a drop-down menu (which appeared if I clicked the restore button) to choose which one I wanted to roll back to, for example. Sure, I'd read about the three backups thing etc. etc. and perhaps I got that wrong or misunderstood, but I can honestly say, I only ever had at the most two backups, that I could drop-down and choose to restore from. They were there. Same iPhone. Different dates.
At the time, when this seemed to be the case, the backing-up process took quite a while. I would leave it to progress while I went and made a cup of tea, come back and it still wasn't finished running. So, not really AGES, but a little while.
Now, when I perform a backup, the progress bar almost shoots across to a finish. I'll 'fess up... that worries me most of all. I can live without the luxury of a menu of backups... but if it does it once, I'd like to be sure it does it at all.
Much more importantly though, thank you for your replies so far.
Any further input, even if it's to belittle or shame is totally welcome. I'd like to understand this a bit more.
    Thanks again.

I don't think there is a Leopard driver for the 1350, but you should check HP's site to make sure. There is an HP driver for the 1100. Are you using that driver? You can try deleting and re-adding the 1100 using the Leopard supplied HP driver.
