Quick help in .php would be great!
I am having a problem with a contact submit form. When a client submits a contact form from my website, I receive an e-mail that has fields that are completely blank. I am using a website template for my photography site and a family member is hosting it for me, but I am doing the editing in Dreamweaver CS4 and my family member is out of the country and cannot help right now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have tried to copy and paste the script into this thread but it won't let me for some reason.

One very likely reason for this is that the script used to process the form input is ancient and relies on a setting called register_globals.
In the bad, old days, the value of form fields was captured automatically by PHP variables that consisted of the field name preceded by a dollar sign. That no longer works, unless the site has very insecure settings. Now, you need to use $_POST['fieldName'] or $_GET['fieldName'], depending on whether the form's action is set to POST or GET (replace fieldname with the name of the actual form field).
On the other hand, it could be something completely different. Without seeing the code, it's purely guesswork.

I've had a used MacBook Pro for the last two years. In the past 6 months it has taken a turn for the worst: slow, doesn't follow trough on commands, quits applications, dies very quickly, and safari has gone to ****. Safari feels like dial -up at this point: it loads very slowly if at all, can't handle multiple tasks, and requires constant reloading. I have moved a lot of my documents, all photos, some music, and whatever else I could put into an external hard drive and it hasn't changed anything . My desktop is clear and I never have more than 4 apps going at a time- honestly doesn't make a difference how many are open but I don't want to over work the poor thing. I have also tried checking the utility disk/drive thing, and "cleaned" my hard drive. What is the problem? Am I due for an upgrade or is my laptop on its last legs ? I have the 2nd to latest software on my computer. Any answer would be greatly Appreciated !
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything suggested in this comment.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the configuration that may be related to the problem.
Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out. Here's a brief summary: In each of two steps, you copy a line of text from this web page into a window in another application. You wait about a minute. Then you paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is copy; paste; paste again. That's all there is to it. Details follow.
While investigating the problem, you may have started the computer in "safe" mode. If possible, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing. If you can only boot in safe mode, you can still use this procedure, but not all of it will work. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "Step 1 done" to appear below what you entered. The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message. No typing is involved in this step.

This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.

To prevent confusion, I'll repeat: When you type your password in the Terminal window, you won't see what you're typing.

I am using Microsoft Outlook for work email and Safari won't display a drop down menu when I click on the paper clip for attachments. The IT person at work says the browser isn't working or Safari isn't updated and I should try a different browser. My other Comcast email is fine. I can attach anything. Any help would be great.
You could try enabling the Develop menu and try using IE but no guarantees. Not surprising that (Microsoft) Outlook isn't compatible with Apples' Safari.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Prerferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select: Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now from the Safari menu bar top of your screen click Develop > User Agent
Try IE 7, 8, or 9. -

MTA Exam 98-361 CS - Please Help ASAP - It would be greatly appreciated!

I am brand spanking new to this development scene and have zero background in any type of IT so, please bare with me..I'm currently active duty military planning on getting out in the fall. I heard about the MSSA program
offered by Microsoft and decided to give it a shot since I meet the requirements (well, most). The reason I say most is my lack of background. Anyway, I just heard about the program about three or four weeks ago and didn't find out I met the requirements till
about two weeks ago..At that time, I was also advised that to get into the program I had to pass this exam (MTA 98-361) , and I had to pass it before the new year to get into the course starting in January.
Because I had such a short amount of time to prepare for the exam, of which I had no knowledge of, my leadership has been very flexible in letting me have time to study. I've taken great advantage of this and have spent countless hours at my desk studying.
Probably around 12-14hrs a day, to be honest. I thought I had been taking this stuff in and really learning a lot getting all of these hours in in the past couple of weeks, until today. I get to the building that is holding my certiport proctored exam, I sign
in, and when I do the proctor asks me, "is this the first time you're taking this exam?" At which point I replied yes and she advised me I had to pick the Visual Basic version of the test because it was my first time..My heart dropped and I got very
nervous. I began the test and it looked completely foreign to me. These last two weeks I had focused all of my energy on learning C# and didn't have even a slight idea of how to apply these methods to VB. I know, most of you guys that have been in this awhile

Is the MeasureUp practice testing as good of a source as it's made out to be? Or should I be going elsewhere? I've watched the MSDN MTA modules multiple times, read Wiley cover to cover, and looked up things I didn't know or wasn't sure of all over the internet.
I'm just wondering what all of you dev gurus would suggest for someone totally new, to learn all of these fundamentals in this short amount of time. Sorry for the lengthiness of this thread, I'm just a little stressed and frustrated.

If you have been doing all your studying with C#, you should have taken your exam in C#, not in VB. Although the change from C# to VB is trivial for someone who has years of practice with both languages,
in your particular case you should have stuck with the one with which you were most familiar.
As a second piece of advice, you need some practice rather than just stuudy time. The questions in the MTA exams are in general very easy to reply if you have actually done the things that they are talking about (versus just having studied them on paper).
For this exam about "development fundamentals" I would recommend that you write a few simple programs that exercise the various topics covered in the "skills measured" section of the exam description page. For instance, when you see the
topic labelled "For loops, While loops, Do...While loops, and recursion", go ahead and write a programs with several types of loops and verify that you understand how to write them, how they work, and that they produce the results that you expected.
Do the same with recursion. Repeat this for every entry in the list of Skills Measured, and you should be ready to take the exam. -
