Quick Redo Transport Services question

Hey All,
I'm just testing Data Guard out for the first time. To make sure I understand this properly, physical archive logs are not copied from the primary to standby (LGWR or ARCH). Rather, the redo is copied into the online standby redo logs, and then the standby archives them when switches occur (which would be when the primary does a switch). Is this correct?
Thanks!

Hi
It depends how you have configured your data guard set-up, assuming you have created standby redo logs then yes this is roughly what will happen.
Have you read: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/concepts.htm#i1033862 ? It does explain all of this.
Thanks
Paul

  • Dataguard : redo transport service

    Hi,
I have a question regarding dataguard: I have a primary database (oracle 10.2.0.4 win 2003 x64 R2 SP2) communicating with a standby and everything was working like a charm up to the moment where the primary starts creating a lot of session with the user PUBLIC on the standby.... At the end, the standby exceeded the maximum processes and the redo transport service stopped.
So I stopped/restart the standby and as soon as the primary sees the standby, there are 7 sessions with user PUBLIC that are created. Then few seconds, after another one was created and another one and it stoppes at 9 this time.
I would like to know what drives the creation of a new session and what is the purpose of those sessions (I thinks it maintains the synchronisation information....) .... What could be the reason for so many sessions to be created... Could it be network failure...
    Thanks
    Christophe Lizé

    Hi Ogan,
Thanks for your answer. This is a windows box. SAP is the application that consumes the data.
In the standby alertlog, we can see the session that is started:

says that your network setup is not correct. You need to resolve that first.
As for Broker setup steps how about the doc or our Data Guard 11g Handbook?
It's 3 DGMGRL commands so I am not sure what 'steps' you need?

  • MS Exchange server 2010 messages will be placed in the poison queue and the transport service will crash

    Can any1 please help.
We have Exchange server 2010, we just upgraded it with SP3 and then the issue occers that we were unable to send n receive mail outside of our LAN...i mean from gmail or hotmail..
we have then updated with CU4 which is the latest but still messages will be placed in the poison queue and the transport service will crash.
We have disabled the antivirus also but issue remains same.
We have CAS 1 n 2 as of Clustering environment and we upgraded sp3 for both. but we did CU4 on CAS1 to see the results to resovle this issue but no luck

    Hi,
Did you get any NDR message now when you send a email to outside? And vice versa.
In addtion,I recommend you telnet to port 25 to test SMTP communication.
If any question, please feel free to post here.
    Thanks.

  • Exchange 2010. Unable to access block list IP's in Hub Transport Service.

Just started today as I was getting ready to add an IP address to the IPBlock list.  Box pops up that says 'failed to enable key constraints.  One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique or foreign-key constraints.' The only
thing I have seen mentioned running the Get-IPBlockListEntry command because there was a duplicate IP address in the list.  When I ran the command, there were 600+ entries, but I can only read the last 350 of them.  There are no duplicates however
in the entries I can see.
    My questions are:
is there a hard limit to how many ip addresses can be added into the block IP list  box?
Is there a  command that would search for duplicate addresses, and if not, is there another way to take care of the issue besides uninstalling and reinstalling the exchange anti spam agent?
How do I get to see the first 250 entries in the results from the exchange management shell?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
Please refer to the following steps to reinstall anti spam agent:
    1. Open EMS, type:
    cd "c:\program files\Microsoft\exchange server\v14\scripts"
    ./uninstall-antispamagentss.ps1
    2. Restart the Exchange transport service.
    3. Go back to EMS, type:
    ./install-antispamagent.ps1
    4. Restart the Exchange transport service.
If the problem still happens, please restart Exchange hub server
    Thanks.

    Summary
OK, this is way off. I don't in any way want to be unprofessional or rude but I'm not sure how to help without wasting you time or mine. So I'm going to take a few educated guesses and hope I'm helping you.
First I have a short note on how to do this here :
    http://www.visi.com/~mseberg/data_guard_on_oracle_11_step_by_step.html
Second, you really need to understand the Oracle parameters needed by Data Guard so I would ask you read :
Data Guard Concepts and Administration 11g Release 2 (11.2) E10700-02
The section in chapter 3 "Set Primary Database Initialization Parameters"
Third, you say vmware. By that do you mean two separate vmware servers? A Primary and a Standby of something else?
More details here might help. Vmware is fine, but if I'm setting this up I want two Servers, one for the Primary and one for the Standby database.
Will still post the details of Standby INIt ASAP
    Best Regards
    mseberg

  • Exchange Server crashed while installing Transport service

    Hi!
Having some massive issues with the initial install of Exchange 2013 SP1 on Windows Server 2012 Standard.
Basically, it has crashed multiple times and usually at the end of the install, so I end up with a partial installation which then needs to be manually removed as it won't remove it via the Programs and Features option.
I have finally got the error after doing the install from the powershell.
Take note, I am part of the Schema Groups and Domain Admins and have fulfilled the Exchange 2013  prerequisites.
The server came from Dell with Windows 2012 set up already, Ive just downloaded the Exchange 2013 iso from microsoft and mounted it.
I've tried also running the setup.exe as administrator (I am also logged in as the domain administrator)
The last command that I ran from power shell is this.
    Setup.exe /mode:Install /role:ClientAccess,Mailbox /DomainController:SERVER /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
Then I get the below error, regardless of the error the server has 16gb of memory with not much else going on, the hard drives have plenty of space so no issues there either.
    Error:
    The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();

The 2 things that I had to fix during install was that the registry was missing the FIPS entry, once I had manually created that entry again the Exchange installation got up installing the Mailbox role: Transport Service and then errored with the above message.
As this is a fairly new product theres not much information out there.
    Any Help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Cameron

    Hi
Since you have mentioned that It has crashed multiple times its not successful its better to try the installation on a different PC or you can try formatting the box and proceed with the exchange  installation since its a new Exchange 2013 installation.

  • Exchange Transport Service not starting

    Hello All:
I have installed exchange server 2007 in my Windows Server 2008 domain.I have noticed that when I open up the services tab on my server and check the services which are running that the Information Store and Transport services are set to start automatically. However, they are not running. When I tell it to start the Information Store that service will start. When I tell it to start the Microsoft Exchange Transport  service, I get the following message:
The Microsoft Exchange Transport Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. I know that this service must be running in order for me to send and receive mail. Can someone tell me how to troubleshoot and correct this problem. Thanks in advance for any and all responses to this question.

    Dear customer:
Did you upgrade a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008?
If so, please refer to the following article to fix the issue:
Multiple Exchange Server 2007 services do not start when you upgrade a computer that is also running Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;951402
Also, check Exchange2007 Setup log file, if the error resemble the following words:
2/3/2007 1:07:16 AM] [2] [ERROR] Service 'MSExchangeTransport' failed to start.
Check the event log for possible reasons for the service start failure.
    [2/3/2007 1:07:16 AM] [2] Ending processing.
    [2/3/2007 1:07:16 AM] [1] The following 1 error(s) occurred during task
    execution:

    the service start failure.
[2/3/2007 1:07:16 AM] [1] [ERROR] Service 'MSExchangeTransport' failed to start.
Check the event log for possible reasons for the service start failure.

    errors in a critical task.
[2/3/2007 1:07:16 AM] [1] Finished executing component tasks.
    [2/3/2007 1:07:16 AM] [1] Ending processing.
Perform the following steps to fix the issue:
    1.         Open Registry on Exchange 2007 box.
    2.         Navigate to the following registry key:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
    3.         Right click Parameters, choose permissions, add explicitly the machine account Domainname\Exchange$ (Where Exchange is hostname for Exchange 2007 box) to the
Access control list by giving read access to it.(Exchange must be able to read this key to find the FQDN of the server so that the SPN can be registered).
    4.         Check the effect.

  • Exchange Transport Service is not starting

    Hi,
We stopped our exchange server machines. When we started it again Exchange Transport service is not starting. Can anyone help us in this regard?

    Hi AneesurRehman,
    Thank you for your question.
We could restart the service of “Microsoft Exchange AD topology ”,then manually start the Exchange Transport Service, if not, check if there are other Exchange services which were not started, we could start other Exchange service before we start Exchange
    Transport Service.
If we didn’t start any Exchange service, we could check if there are any Event IDs in Application Log. I suggest we post Event Id to
    [email protected] for our troubleshooting.
    Best Regard,
    Jim

  • Frontend transport service

I have an exchange 2013 server that is set for outbound mail only.  Inbound mail is disabled by intention.  I had an issue whereby the transport and frontend transport services would not run simultaneously.  So i shut off frontend transport
and turned on transport and outbound mail is processing successfully.  My question is was frontend transport being shutdown automatically because inbound mail is turned off?   I've read that frontend transport acts as a proxy for all inbound and
(optionally) outbound messages.  Does this mean that if you disable inbound messaging then frontend transport shutting off is normal?

    Hi,
As Sarvesh suggested, I recommend you check if there is any error or warning in the event log when the Microsoft Exchange Frontend Transport service is stopped. If yes, please take your time to post it for my further research.
What's more, I recommend you turn on inbound mail temporarily to verify if the Microsoft Exchange Frontend Transport service can be started.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

  • Microsoft Exchange Transport Service....Starting (Does not reach a running state, stops and tries starting again)

    Hi All,
After installing the lovely update (https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/ms14-068) that Microsoft released last week. I restarted my exchange 2013 server and now the Microsoft Exchange Transport Service will not start. It is pretty much constantly
in a starting state. Tried all the standard stuff, restarting the server etc.
    Running on Server 2012 R2
Hopefully someone can shed some light.

    Hi,
    A few questions here :
    - Have you installed all roles on the same server ? ( MultiRole server )
    - If yes, do use the preconfigured receive connectors from Exchange or did you add custom connectors ?
    - Do you have any anti-spam service installed on the server that could be listening on port 25 ?
