Quick time upgrade to quicktime pro

i have quicktime 7 and i bought final cut pro hd,it came with quicktime pro and its serial #, and code,im tryng to download or upgrade to qt pro to convert my home movies to put in my ipod, how do i do it

You can confirm your "Pro" status by opening the QuickTime Preference Pane. Click the "Register" tab and be sure it says QuickTime 7 Pro under your registration serial.
If the Registration fields are blank you need to re-install FCP. It should automatically update your QT registration. I don't think (like previous version of Final Cut) it ships with a "printed" serial number.

  • Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10 ?

I have just migrated from iMac5 (2.16 GHz) Mac OS 10.4.11 Quicktime 7.6.4 to a new imac 3.06 Mac OS 10.6.2 Quicktime 10.0.
Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ? (There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums). All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible ?
Or am I missing something ?

Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ?
Because your system thinks you are missing specific codecs required for the playback of certain compression formats. In some cases this may be an installation problem in which the codec was "lost" or "orphaned" during the update process. In others it may be a need to update the component to work properly under the dual QT X/7 framework installed under the Snow Leopard OS. You need to check the Inspector/Finder Info or similar window to determine what specific codec is causing the problem and then re-install or update that specific codec/component/package.
(There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums).
Most of the problems are "self-inflicted" by individuals who, rather than studying the problem symptoms, analyzing them to determine their cause, and then fixing the problems, elect to immediately delete and re-install software -- often attempting to mix components from different operating systems and/or update versions of the software in their haste.

I am running both Leopard and Snow Leopard variations of QT v7.6.6 and all of my "old" files have remained compatible -- to include MPEG-2 video and a limited number of third-party supported compression formats. Since my configurations continue to work properly, my first guess is that you have an unresolved configuration problem or inability for your QT X 64-bit routines to communicate/switch properly with the 32-bit routines as required for your content.
Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10?
Technically, you probably don't. However, as an old QT 7 Pro user who likes many of the QT 7 Player controls/options/features better than QT X's new but more basic features, I maintain both in active service and tend to use QT 7 as the default player of most of my work flows. Still, this is up to the individual. I am in no hurry to rush the changeover from an older but still more reliable QT technology to a more modern, but as yet, less mature and well tested "new" QT technology. In short, I feel it best to make the most of both dispensations during the development of this "new" version of QT.

In most cases the problem is associated with a failure to follow the installation and activation instructions HERE. However, since you have not really described your problem, it is diffucult to know for sure. Suggest you read these instruction and see if they help. If not, then describe the problem in more detail since "cannot get the upgrade to kick in" could refere to anything from failure to press the "Tab" key to failure to enter a name salutation or suffix to purchasing a key for the wrong system.

  • XVID Avi's not working once upgraded to Quicktime Pro

This may be related to the post earlier this week.
I just upgraded to Quicktime Pro, and now most of my .avi files, which playedback fine before, just give me the white screen with no audio.
When I check the file format, it says:
    XVID, 624 x 352, Unknown MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 48.000 kHz
My QT is the following: QuickTime™ Version 7.1.3, Player Version 7.0.1, which I believe is the most up to date version.
I looked at the solution for the pervious post about this, but if the files worked before, is this a simple codec issue, where I just need to re-aqcuire a codec?
    Thanks any & all,
    dh

Upgrading to Pro doesn't add or subtract any files from the installed version of QuickTime. It merely activates the Pro features.
Did you upgrade from version 6 to version 7? That would remove and add files.
Find and install the XVID codec appropriate for your machine.

  • Upgrading to Quicktime Pro

I bought a registration code from apple.com to upgrade to Quicktime Pro, and even though the system preferences says that I have a registered quicktime pro in my computer, I still can not download videos from Safari and save them to my desktop. I have tried resetting Safari but it didn't work. Any sugestions? Thanks!

  • Need QUICK! help for Quicktime Pro Install

I came in this morning knowing I'd be pressed for time, and that I needed to convert a WMA file to an MP3 for a meeting. I decided to use Quicktime Pro 7. I made the purchase and have been trying for a 45 minutes of precious time to get it installed but am running into one bit of crap instructions after another. First, the instructions say to go into my system preferences and click the Quicktime icon. There isn't one. Next it says to download Quicktime 7 and load Quicktime Pro as an upgrade to that. Downloaded QT7, installed and it went off into space somewhere. Not in my applications folder.
I'm running out of time. Why can't this just be an install process like any other normal program intead of making a person crazy?
    Any help would be appreciated.
Runing OS 10.6.8 on a hugely capable system.
    Cayce

Oh, I think I get it now. So Quicktime Pro 7 will never show up as Quicktimje Pro 7, as advertised, but will be cleverly hidden within Quicktime Player 7 so that after it is actually loaded, it will still be called Quicktime Player 7, and there will be no visually recognizeable evidence that the install was successful, unless you've experienced this before and know what to drill down & look for, which rarely is the case when a person purchases and installs a software for the first time.
Both the Registration and About windows will display the  normal QT 7 icon with the "Pro" text embedded to indicate QT 7 is properly keyed for "Pro" use, as well as, "un-greying" the "Pro" specific options in various menu windows when content is loaded/a player window has been opened. As  explained on various Apple web pages, purchasing the "Pro" key does not add any new codecs and does not download any new software. It only turns on the track/layer editing and conversion features for direct access from within QT 7 without having to purchase a full editing app like FCP. This is the way classic QT has worked for the last decade since I started using v5.
Thanks for the kind and thorough assist, though, Jon. I'll manage from here. Curious about the South Jersey Apple Users Group. I'm up at the northern border, in the lakes region, town called Ringwood.
The SJAUG primarily hosts membership throughout "South" Jersey (i.e., from Burlington County to Cape May County.) In the past, when membership was more active, we actually held meetings twice a month (Medford leas and Pine Hill School) to host a split membership. The Video SIG used to be quite active but between the split meetings, dwindling membership, aging membership (many have been members for 10-15 years and at 66, I am considered one of the younger members), and closing of the Pine Hill meeting venue (Pine Hill meeting members now usually go to the MUGSNJ at Gloucester County College), our membership and SIG activities have greatly been reduced over the last few years. In any case, we normally meet the third Saturday of each month at the Meford Leas facility just off Rt 70 in Medford. (http://www.sjaug.org)
I have not visited user groups farther north than the Princeton area. Would invite you down to the next meeting (26 Jan '13) but I'm sure there are closer groups if you are interested. Retired, my video/QT interests are promarily centered on the creating and maintaining of my own personal video library for iTunes/TV/Airvideo management/streaming of content.

  • Upgrading to QuickTime Pro does not accept the key number I Bought

I tried to upgrade to QT Pro but the Apple store does not accept billing address from Puerto Rico. I called Apple and asked if my brother(who lives in Florida) could buy the key number using his credit card and then e-mail the key number to me. The guy at Apple told me that I can do that. Now Quick Time does not accept the Key number bought thru my brother. It say invalid number.

  • On my Mac OSX 10.4.11,  having trouble upgrading to Quicktime Pro

On my Mac OSX 10.4.11, I  upgraded Quicktime 7.6.4 to Quicktime Pro. My problem is, when doing transitions in iMovie, I get the message to check the "enable flash checkbox under the Advanced Tab in Quicktime Preferences" . There is no such option offered under Preferences on my 10.4.11 Mac.

For iCloud, you need a version of iTunes 10, and 10.4.11 only supports up to 9.2.1.  10.4 offers no iCloud access, while 10.5 and 10.6 have limited access.  Only 10.7 and 10.8 are integrated with iCloud.

  • IChat bandwidth problem after upgrading to Quicktime Pro 7.1

I just updated Quicktime Pro 7.1 (from 7.0) and applied the Security update to my iMac G5 1.8 GHz.
My girlfriend and I have been chatting with no problems. She's running an new iMac Dual Core and I have an iMac G5 running 10.3.9. We tried to hook up tonight and kept getting this error:
2006-05-11 21:41:51 -0400: There is insufficient bandwidth to maintain the conference.
Detected 48 kbps upstream and 162 kbps downstream bandwidth; 50 kbps required.
We're both on Cinti Bell's Fuse/Zoomtown ADSL so we have plenty of bandwidth. Set iChat bandwidth to None and st Quicktime to 1.5 Mbps T1/internet/LAN.
Any ideas why, after a month of no problems chatting, this bandwidth issue has come up? She's running 4.5 (hasn't upgraded and hasn't sone the just rreleased security update)?

OK - My gal is here for the weekend so it will be next monday evening before we can toubleshoot as I don't know any other place where I can find someone to video chat with for testing purposes. We're using AIM accounts, but like I say, before the upgrade I did it was working fine. I've been through most of the 'usual' from rebuilding permissions, diskwarrior to ensure the disk is OK. Next week I'll trash preferences and such when we troubleshoot.
I appreciate the response. If I find anything out I'll update this thread.

  • ITunes and Quick Time upgrade 9.0.2 error downloading and installing

    Hi,
This morning I recived notification that there is a new update for iTunes and Quick Time. While downloading and installing this upgrade 9.0.2, I received the following error:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly "Microsoft.VC80.CRT, version= "8.0.50727.4053" type="win32", publicKey Token="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b", process or Architecture="x86"', please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736B3.
What the heck does that mean???

I received the same error and spent roughly an hour and a half troubleshooting with the Apple Customer Support before I was told that it was a Windows or Lenovo manufacturer issue -- something to do with a registry key -- and that this was outside the realm of Apple Customer Support.
If you are able to resolve it, I would be interested in knowing how.

  • Quick Time  requires a QuickTime.msi file to install? Not installing?

Ok, I uninstalled Quick Time, because i h8 it, but now iTunes says it requires quick time. so i go to the apple website, get the installer and when i go to install it it gives me a message about quicktime.msi in my appdata\local\temp... folder, and I cant install quicktime without quicktime. Help? Plz... I have $130 on my itunes and I want to buy music.
P.S. I have also tried to uninstall itunes too, and then install them both again, but it still gives me the message "Quick time could not be installled..." or sumtin' like that! HELP?

If you're getting a missing QuickTime.msi message, I'd try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
[Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301]
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and select "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Reboot the PC and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through any better this time?

  • So I have to upgrade to QuickTIme Pro to get full screen capability?!?

I'm new to macs and love it. I am a little disappointed though that, unless I'm mistaken, you have to pay for QuickTIme Pro to get the full screen capability Windows Media gives for free. Is this really the case?

The Pro upgrade allows full screen playback of "local" (on your computer) files. Those you view in a browser window can't be played at full screen size until you save them (another Pro feature).
WMP opens any Web based link in its own Player window instead of the browser. Web authors (those that know) can do the same with a QuickTime file. These files can also be coded to be Presentation files that play full screen.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/B/
Some QT files are coded to be played in iTunes which does allow full screen playback (including any local file you add to its Library).
So. You don't need QT Pro to play local files at full screen. Just add them to iTunes.
If you wish to easily save files you view online you'll need the Pro upgrade.

  • How do i upgrade to quicktime pro using lion

I am using LION operating system. I am trying to upgrade from quicktime to quicktime pro. I have already purchased the software and have my registration number but i can not figure out WHERE to use it? (meaning where do I input the registration number so that I can use the program)?

When you start QT 7 player, under the first menu there is a "Registration" menu item.
Enter your name and Registration code, THEN hit the TAB KEY. Do not click the "Buy..." button.
    That should do it.
Make sure you have the CORRECT version of QT 7:

  • Help Upgrading To QuickTime Pro

I would like to purchase the upgrade to QuickTime 7 Pro.  It says the following before upgrading:
    "Please note:
Your QuickTime 7 Pro registration code only works with QuickTime 7. Be sure you have downloaded and installed QuickTime Player 7 before you enter your QuickTime 7 Pro registration code."
But my current version of QuickTime is 10.2. Do I actually have to install an earlier version of QT, (Ver. 7) before I can install QuickTime 7 Pro? Or is there a QuickTime 10 Pro and I just don't see it?
    Thxs for any help.

Yes, you need to install QuickTime 7. There is no QuickTime X Pro.
