Quicktime 7.1.3 and iTunes won't open .mp4 movies

Both my PowerMac G4 and MacBook will not open mp4 files in quicktime anymore. After updating both programs movies that used to play now will not play nor import into the itunes library. Quicktime gives an error "the movie could not be opened"

Did you repair permissions (and I know you didn't)?
If not, do that.
Download the full installer for iTunes and QT separately and if necessary, repair permisisons, install them , repair pemissions again after the reboot.

  • Safari and itunes won't open

I was using my mac 3 days ago and everything was fine, then comcast had a internet problem and I lost service for 3 days now I have internet but safari and itunes won't open the icon bounces once and then nothing. I have removed them from the dock, and removed them from the app folder, I also removed the plist and cache files from the home directory. Using firefox I tried to download new copies of them both and nothing new appears on my desktop. I have run the hardware test utility on my osx discs and everthing checks out ok. I am so frustrated, this is the first real problem with my mac since I got it 2.5 years ago. thanks in advance

ok here is an update, I repaired permissions in disk utility with my boot disk, then verified the volume and the volume had errors. I tried to repair the volume and disk utility said I had sibling errors and could not repair. I had an appointment with the genius bar and they determined that with the unrepairable errors on the drive an erase and install was necessary, after coming to grips with this reality I decided to backup everything and do the reformat and upgrade to leopard. I can honestly say that the genius bar person was very courteous and professional. They allowed me to stay at the bar while backing up my files onto my lacie external drive and then installed a new copy of leopard from their lacie drive (after I paid for my copy of leopard) which took 20 minutes instead of 2 hours. I am frustrated that I had to do this whole process and the genius bar employee could not tell me why it happened but the system is working great and I am enjoying the new operating system.

  • Quicktime won't uninstall and itunes won't open

Originally I was having problems opening itunes, an error message appeared saying windows has encoutered an error and needs to close. I then tried uninstalled itunes and reinstalling, and I still couldn't open itunes, I then read that it might be related to quicktime so I tried uninstalling quicktime too. Quicktime would come up with an error "fatal error during installation". I tried remove quicktime from my programs, tried the windows installer cleanup utility to remove quicktime, and tried deleting some files from system32. I tried reinstalling quicktime again after a reboot, and it comes up with quicktime is currently running on a newer version and so cannot install.
My itunes still won't open and I can't get rid of quicktime either.
    Someone please help...

I have same problem. have searched and deleted all all quicktime related files i can find doing"quicktime" search.
I have this error when trying to remove or install quicktime or itunes:
Error 1316.A network error has occurred while attemting or read from the file
    C:WINDOWS\Installer\QuickTime.msi
there is not "installer" folder in windows, nor a quicktime.msi file.
why would the download think there was?

  • ITunes Folder is missing and iTunes won't open

My iTunes wouldn't open a few days ago so I deleted iTunes and Quicktime along with the iTunes folder in my documents. Now when I try to redownload iTunes my folder (iTunes) won't appear. Also I can't even open iTunes. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

i have re-installed / maintenance install and the magical itunes folder in my music has re-appeared, itunes alas will still not open and still claims this folder in my music is not there. i have also deleted that src folder thing mentioned on the support page as a possible problem so that folder is not the cause of my current troubles.

  • Quicktime Error Code ; -3 and iTunes will not open!!!

I have attempted to install iTunes and am recieving Error Code : -3 when it trys to install quicktime...Then when I attempt to open Itunes after the installation it tells me that 'iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing'. How can I resolved this so that iTunes 6 runs correctly, and I can use my iPod??

When I try and install Quicktime, this message appears when it gets to the stage of 'Error 1402: Could not open key HKEY/LOCALMACHINE/SOFTWARE/Apple Computer Inc./Quicktime/InstalledFiles/QuicktimeUpdater.exe. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel'. Then after pressing OK, this error message appears 'Error -1603 Fatal Error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.'
This is what happens when I attempt to open Itunes 'iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes'

  • Quicktime and iTunes Won't Open after updating to iTunes 7.3.1

So this morning I downloaded iTunes 7.3.1, but I winged it as usual. And I only winged it because the option to upgrade was in Korean, and for some reason I can't change it to English. But anyway, I updated as usual and my computer restarted. Then I tried to open up iTunes and I got a error report. And it took me to a Windows Error Reporting and said the problem was my hard drive. And said to go to run, type in EVENTVWR, and double click on application and than double click on an event ID of 1005. That didn't work, so of course my iTunes and Quicktime(which won't install even after I tried to repair it) arn't having a temp. problem. So I tried the second solution and typed in CMD after I clicked run. And then a black window popped up and I was suppose to type in chkdsk /f, but when I tried to start typing the window just closed itself. And after I got home this evening, I tried opening iTunes and it said to reinstall iTunes and I did. So I tried opening it agains after I reinstalled it, and the same error popped up and quicktime still will not open.
So any suggestions on what to do?

Okay. That's looking like a badly broken QuickTime (although it's not the most common message people see under those circumstances).
So we'd better try swapping out your existing QuickTime. Since it's giving you "fatal errors", it's unlikely that you'll be able to use Add/remove Programs to uninstall it. So we'll try getting it out of there by other means.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC (Run CleanUp, find "QuickTime in the entries in CleanUp, select the QuickTime entry and click "Remove"):
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • New update won't install and iTunes won't open

Trying to install the latest update to iTunes. It won't run and now all I get is a blank dialog screen when I open iTunes. Anyone else having this problem?

What happens when you connect the iPod to the computer and restore the iPod via iTunes?

  • I am getting error 7 on my windows xp and itunes won't open.

I've tried installing again and still nothing.  I have removed everything from my computer and still nothing.  Initially it was a problem with itunes helper.  Now, I don't know any more.  Please help!
    Thanks

Syncing of devices running iOS4 and higher requires iTunes 9.x and higher.
iOS 4.3 and higher requires iTunes 10.x or higher.
Regardless, iTunes 9.x and 10.x require Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Is your Windows system current with all Windows updates?

  • Safari, Mail and iTunes won't open

    Hi,
Major problem just done an update and now mail, iTunes and Safari have given up the ghost! All they do is just bob up and down in the dock. I have tried Disk Utility which comes up with an error saying it cannot repair the disk error message -9972. I have read that this can be repaired without reinstalling but that went over my head and into the clouds.
I am not a technical person but I would really appreciate it if someone would talk me through this as I have so much work to do but cannot even access my emails to do it!

I have exactly the same problem! Connected to the internet yet none of these works!

  • ITunes won't sync mp4/mov on pictures folder to iPhone/iPad

This has only started happening since updating to IOS 5, on both iPad 1 and iPhone 4. The actual message is: "Some of the videos in your iTunes library were not copied to the iPhone/iPad because they cannot be pladed on this iPhone/iPad"
Problem is, these videos (some taken with the iPhone 4!) have previously sync´d before, so I know that they are the correct format (mp4´s and mov´s). I have tried deleting all pictures, and syncing again to no avail.
    I´m on a Windows 7 x64 machine.
    Can anyone help, please?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • ITunes won't open due to Quicktime error

I recently updated iTunes, and iTunes won't open. It says
"Quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires Quicktime version 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes."
Well, I tried redownloading iTunes and just the latest Quicktime, but I keep getting the message.
I tried clearing my temp files but nothing else will work. Do I have to uninstall iTunes completely, and if so, what do I do about my library?

"Quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires Quicktime version 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes."
let's try swapping out your QuickTime again. we'll take a few additional explicit precautions this time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?
