Let me add some news.
QuicktimePlayer 7.6 even crashes when you try to feed it with movies compressed with Handbrake and multi audio tracks. But this has to do with HB generating tracks with "unknown" language.
You could download "Subler" which lets you edit mp4 files. Change the language to English for example and save file optimized.
Than open in QT and make the edits audio assignment described here:

That is all very complicated and time consuming.
I'm sure the problem for Apple is to make 5.1 passthrough and normal stereo system sounds work at the same time. You can see how problematic this is when you change the volume in QT or iTunes when playback a 5.1 audio file. It always has to be full up for passthrough.
If you chose passthrough in any App you'll loose sound output for all other apps.
That's why it is offered in ATV. But with a normal mac, you want a lot of different Apps to work at the same time, even if you have QT open and watch a movie with 5.1.
Apps like Plex don't have to deal with this. They kind of "Highjack" the whole system for their tasks.
I'm very confident that Apple handles all these problems with a new Quicktime in SnowLeopard.

Premiere Elements 11 crashes during playback after adding PiP

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 11, up to date, and Windows 7 home up to date. This is a new problem that just started with my most recent project. I have done these types of edits and PiP's many times with success with the same type of source video formats, etc.
The problem: I add a small clip of video over the main video timeline as Picture in Picture. It adds to the timeline successfully and I can even play it back ok (before rendering). If I add a transition to the front of the PiP, it will crash during playback (pre-render). Or, if I render the timeline before adding the transition, it will also crash during playback once it gets to the PiP.
I tested PiP with still pictures and that works ok, it only crashes on video PiP. I have tested different video formats (from GoPro and from Panasonic camcorder) with the same results (crashes). I have uninstalled Adobe Premiere as well as Quicktime and re-installed them, same results. I am quite frustrated with the constant crashes, especially since I have done a dozen or more videos the same exact way using the same cameras and same types of video files.
Any help is appreciated.

So I created a new project using the project preset "DSLR 1080p30 @29.97". Everything worked fine in that project using the same source videos and doing PiP (tested with both methods).
I opened the project that was giving me problems and the PiP worked when using your approach of dropping the PiP clip onto Video 2 then scaling it down. I then deleted that PiP and re-added it the way I was doing it before, and it crashed the first time I tried to play it back.
I closed down Elements and again tried to reproduce the crash the same way, but this time it worked and did not crash...I tried multiple times to reproduce the crash, sometimes it would, sometimes it wouldn't...
So, I don't know exactly what the problem is. Lastnight I could reproduce the crash every time by either rendering the PiP or adding a transition to the front of it (then playing it back), every time it would crash. Now it is behaving differently.
At any rate, I will start using the correct project settings going forward and know that I can PiP using the other method as well. Maybe the project that is giving me problems is just corrupted or something, I'll toss it an start anew.

Premiere Pro CC(V.8.0) sluggish and crashes during Playback

Issue:
Premiere Pro CC(V.8.0) extremely sluggish and crashes during Playback. My video won't play at all unless I render (which is no problem). I render all my clips and attempt to play it back. It usually will allow me to watch it the first time around. After that, the program freezes up or becomes extremely sluggish. I have even had a blank green screen pop up on my playback monitor. Sometimes the program will generate the message "A Serious Error has occurred" and will shut down. Other times, the program just locks up. I am not running any other programs except email.
Here is what I've tried:
Cleared all my cache files
Set my Mercury Playback set to "Software only"
Restarted the program and computer after doing the above.
Made sure I had no RGB Curves as an effect (as I did see that was an issue from other threads)
Deleted all unused footage
Deleted all render files and re-rendered everything.
I am editing footage that requires Ultra Key. I am using a Three-Way Color Corrector. My video isn't even 1 minute long, so I would think it would be easy to render and playback.
Here is what I am working on (I know I need an upgrade - was hoping to after I finished this client's project):

SSL and Quicktime Player: QT crashes if it opens a web video via https

Hello,
it was running some test-videos, I think, some weeks ago very well - as I can remember. After some days quicktime client starts crashing when it opens a .mp4 file from a https: connection. Thers a message concerning the certificate from quicktime then it crashes.
It crashes also on another computer. Quicktime plays the same file via a http connection (that is not secured via ssl) very well.
Safari is playing the https(ssl)-file with quicktime very well.
If Safari runs the ssl video and finally completed do load the full video I can copy the https:-URL to Quicktime player - and it plays the video very well.
Via quicktime streaming server the .mp4 runs too - but its not secured - I think
What can I do? Thank you for any suggestion.

Quicktime takes way too long to start playing a movie accessed over Samba

I keep all my AVI files on a Linux server, shared via SMB and mounted on my Mac.
Under Tiger, I could double-click on an AVI file and Quicktime would immediately open and playback could start immediately.
Since upgrading my Mac (a high end DeskPro) to Leopard, I now see delays of up to about one MINUTE before the quicktime window even appears. If I start Quicktime by itself, the content window shows up immediately but if I drag an AVI file into it, I see that long delay.
I thought it might have been an SMB problem but if I run VLC and drag an AVI file to it in the same way, it starts instantly.
This problem did not happen under Tiger, but it's consistent under Leopard. Anyone know how to fix this?

I'm having similar issues but I'm using simple AFP instead of SMB. Since the last wave of updates, there's no hope in site for maintaining a steady connection to stream video--what used to be so simple with QuickTime!!
Have tried many solutions, no avail....anyone with suggestions?

Playback buttons for flash movie

Hello, im having some difficulty adding a play, pause and
stop button to a movie I imported into flash.
The movie was imported using the import wizard in flash 8. I
did not add a skin because when I tried adding it , the skin would
not show through once I imported the finished swf file in
Trainersoft. ONly the movie would come through. So, then I decided
to add my own playback buttons to the movie. I imported the movie
again using the import wizard, i did not select a skin. The movie
was imported fine into flash. I added a play, pause and stop
buttons as new symbols each in their own layer. I added the correct
action scripting to the buttons, i preview movie and the buttons
appear correctly but nothing happens when I click each of the
buttons, the movie keeps playing without reacting to me clicking on
either the pause or stop button, or the play button.
Here is thte scripting im using.

First, create your play button. Click on it, and open up the
Properties Panel (Shift + F3). Type in:
play_btn for the <Instance Name>.
Then, create a new Layer in your Flash file, called Actions.
Click on the first frame of the Actions layer, and open up the
Actions panel (F9).

Your question requires more information. What does MPEG-4 mean to you? What file container and which compression formats are you referring to here? Is the MPEG-4 content "standard" or proprietary. Basically, depending on the file container and the specific content, QT X v10.3 may initiate a conversion ever where the individual data tracks are fully QT compatible. Proprietary compression formats will definitely do this. In some cases, the audio or video in one source container may simply be passed through to the MOV file while in another source container, QT X v10.3 forces a conversion of that same data track. In short, there are too many variables at this point to properly answer your question or attempt to duplicate your workflow.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

Lightroom 5.7.1 crashes every time I select a MOV video file, is there a fix?

This was working in 5.0, after updating to 5.7.1 Lightroom will crash every time I have an MOV file selected. The cover image of the video will render and show, yet LR will crashes and burn.
This is on a Windows 8.1 system with Lightroom 5.7.1 and MOV files produced by a 5D mark II.

This is also occuring with Ligthroom CC (2015) on a Windows 7 system. Before update (with 5.x) no error occured and I was able to view the MOV files of my Olympus E-M10.

Quicktime pro, is there a way to export multiple movies as a batch?

Quicktime pro, is there a way to export multiple movies as a batch? Every time I export more than one at a time they try to export at the simultaineously and their progression slows tremendously. Is there a way to automate the export process so they go 1 by 1? I am embedding watermarks in .mov files of different sizes so while thier export settings are identical there is some discrepency in the format/size of the movies and the placement and size of the watermark "track".

I am having the same problems. My guess is that a lot of people are having the same problems and just living with it. Those of us who know where to go on the Internet come here to find a fix.
It seems Verizon has some explaining to do. Maybe they should try Beta testing new software a little better. I would rather have to wait longer for something that works. I am sure that some manager or director said this is close enough, deploy it and we will see what happens. Well, you are seeing the problems. Time to fix your mistake.
All of us are telling our friends about the problems. The longer this goes on, the more people we will tell about it.
Wouldn't you rather us be telling our friends that their is an error in the new interface and that you are working hard to fix it?
If you want to be up front about this, then just tell us. We are adults and can handle it. If you made a mistake, own up to it and give us some credit for doing your Beta testing in the field.
Customer Service is all about telling the truth and if you made a mistake, admit it and lets move on with a fix. I do not want to be told again that I should be able to unplug it, power cycle it, try the on-board diagnostics, etc., etc.......

When I choose record audio or screenshots, I get a little further, but as soon as I select my ipad as the source I get the same error message.

You don't need to be a developer for this to work. I get the same error. Just one more thing on the list that make me upset more and more with Apple. Things just don't work out of the box like they used to.
This new feature was to be included with iOS 8 and Yosemite.

Playback head won't move - no error

Hey guys, I don't really know how to describe this problem but I'm going to give it a try. I am working in Flash cs3 using as3. I have a project with 5 scenes and button nav to jump between them. When I test the project scene 1-4 play fine however when I get to scene 5 the playback head doesn't move, it just stays parked on frame 1 (button nav works, animation does not). When I re-arrange the stacking order of my scenes the same problem will occur in a different scene that had previously played fine. This issue only occurs when i test the whole movie - if I test any scene by itself it plays fine. I am not getting any AS errors which adds to the frustration. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think this is the problem, when I change the scene stacking order it causes the same problem in a different scene. The strange thing is if I delete one of the larger scenes before the scene 5 it will then play fine. It's a fairly large file, are there any ram limitations that might cause an issue like this?
