Quicktime alternative program

Hello,
I have QT installed, I don't know if it's Pro or not...but it's a registered paid for version (I think version6).
Anyway...a few weeks ago I got my weekly downloads picks from PC World, and one was a program called Quicktime Alternative.
It said something about it being a much 'lighter' and easier program to use.
I would like to know if anyone here has heard of this program, and if so, have you tried it?
Also, if it's a good alternative to QT...and a person downloads it, should you uninstall the regular QT program?
Thanks so much.

I have used QT alt with media player classic, which comes with the ace mega codec pack and other 'all-in-one'codec packs. I also have quicktime installed. It just simply allows me to view qt files in media player classic if i wish. Also handy is the real alternative, which also works with mpclassic. QT alt does not interfere with actual quicktime. Hope this helps.

  • How do I get Streamclip AVI files that were saved without first installing Quicktime ALternative 1.81 to play in Premiere Elements 11?

I had Hi-8 "home movie" tapes transferred to mp4 files. To pull many short clips from these long files, I used MPEG Streamclip 1.2. The default save for these short clips was mp4. Either they didn't work in Adobe Premiere Elements 11 or I thought they wouldn't -- I can't recall now -- so I saved each clip as AVI. These AVI files won't play at all in Premier Elements. I Googled for advice and found that I needed to convert to Quicktime Alternate 1.81. I fear this had to be done before I saved the clips, but I didn't realize that. Still, I just now uninstalled Quicktime 7 and installed Quicktime 1.81, then tried converting the AVI clips files, first back to MP4 (didn't work at all in PE11) and then to MOV (only played audio). The AVI files play fine in Windows Media Player and VLC.  All I have are the original files saved as AVI in Streamclip. Is there any way to get these to play and be editable in Premiere Elements 11? I've attached a jpeg capture of a gspot readout for one of these files. THANKS!

Glad that you finally sorted out what you were doing and discovered DV AVI.
In your particular situation Prism would serve your purposes of generating the DV AVI 4:3 since your footage is 640 x 480. However, for others with different footage, the free Prism shortcoming is that it cannot offer DV AVI widescreen 16:9; whereas MPEG Streamclip can do the job for 16:9 as well as 4:3.
QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1 that does come with the MPEG Streamclip's required MPEG2 Playback Component (free) also meets the Premiere Elements requirement for QuickTime installed on computer with Premiere Elements to work. This works in spite of the fact that QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1 is not the latest version of the regular QuickTIme.
In post 2 of the following older thread, I detail the use of Prism (for 4:3) and MPEG Streamclip (for 4:3 and 16:9) to produce the DV AVI file.

Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
Moving forward, do not use AVCHD (MPEG4 AVC/H.264) or H.264.avi in Premiere Elements. It is not supported.

  • Quicktime alternative screwed up apple quicktime & itunes

i installed quicktime alternative to try it out. big mistake!
no quicktime files would play. period. within firefox or ie or even from the harddrive. (actually, i could right click a file and open with vlc, but that's a pain to do every time)
i uninstalled qt alternative and now my quicktime/itunes problem starts!
i still couldn't play qt video and now itunes doesn't start up either. says it needs quicktime blah blah. i never uninstalled apple quicktime
so logically i figure qt alternative uninstalled a normal quicktime component
i reinstalled the quicktime/itunes package. itunes installs fine then on to quicktime where the installation stops shortly after clicking Agree to the EULA
where i get an ERROR and Installation could not be completed.
also tried uninstalling Apple quicktime but when I click on Uninstall I get the hour glass pointer for a few seconds then nothing happens.
also tried installing from the quicktime stand alone installer
Did a search and found someone with a similar problem but no remedy.
    No qt=no itunes=NO IPOD!
    Please Help!
    Windows 2000

okay, I tried quite a few things and finally got quicktime and itunes working again. In case any one else encounters this problem here is what I did, at least the steps that fixed it.
    1 re-install quicktime alternative.
    2 re-install quicktime 7 from the qt7 standalone installer.
During the process I encountered several error messages saying install failed or fatal error. (Something about ActiveX Control missing and a failed dll.) DON'T click cancel, click OK through each error and the installer will resume after a brief pause. Quicktime installed successfully, iTunes also now starts up so I'm happy.
I'm leaving qt alternative on the harddrive for now though I'd like to remove it I'm worried the uninstall will corrupt quicktime again. But if anyone has a surefire way of removing it without disrupting apple's qt I'd like to know.

  • QuickTime Alternative - legal status

Have a question about the QuickTime Alternative in the k-lite codec pack: when installing this one you get a Quicktime icon in the control panel (we are talking Windows here). Apparently some components of QuickTime Pro are included in this codec pack.
In the QuickTime Preferences screen that you get when clicking on the icon you can see QuickTime Pro being registered to the user "Apple" and a serial number.
Can anybody shine some light on the legal status of using this codec pack / QuickTime Alternative in a corporate environment? The websites for the k-lite and Apple give no answers, Google does not help either.
    Thanks in advance.

I can give no definitive statement, but it appears that QuickTime Alternative is enveloping the actual Sorenson codec in a DirectShow wrapper. The developers of QTA do not appear to have a license for this distribution, so it would very probably be a copyright violation and hence illegal. Since the QTA project is based in eastern Europe, though, it's probably not been possible, or at least worthwhile, for Sorenson to try to get them shut down.
So I would agree with Kyn; the use of QuickTime Alternative in any business or educational environment is very risky legally. If it were me (and it is here at my university), I would avoid the use of QuickTime Alternative to avoid potential legal issues.

  • Is there an alternative program/recommendation after FormsCentral closes?

is there an alternative program/recommendation after FormsCentral closes?

brianb46000627 my company switched to SeamlessDocs and so far it has been a great alternative. It was really easy to set up our forms and we had them up and running the same day we signed up.

  • I just purchased FormsCentral but according to your site it is going to be closed on June 22. What does this mean for what I paid? Do you have an alternative program to use? Do I receive my money back?

    Kim,
When you say you just purchased Formscentral exactly what do you mean? Formscentral has not been sold as a stand alone product in a while due to the decision to close the service. If you got Formscentral as part of a Acrobat subscription then you need to know that that part of the subscription will go away partially in June and fully in July. If you have indeed managed to purchase Formscentral standalone recently can you please give me the information about your purchase such as the date of purchase and link to the site from which you purchased. Refunds are available to customers who are not able to use the service though their contract period.

  • [TV@Master]which alternative program do you recomend to use instead MSI PVS

As we all know some of us dont like this program, and use other programs like christv, fly2000, iuvcr ,dscaler, etc , .
but getting them to work is not that easy, and to test them all will require time , money etc. so maybe its best to ask the forum:
which ones have you used ?
which one you recommend and why?

I have had several issues similar to yours while using different PVR apps.
The most recent things i've done is installed the applications that cause problems on top of its self (without add/remove) mind you i wasn't prompted to do it either.
I have also removed all Quicktime codecs and a few others that i dont require.  (the nero thing didn't apply because im using a newer version)
Have a look at what is loaded with the program when it crashes and it may give you some insight to what is going wrong.

  • Quicktime/Various program errors?

    Hi all,
we recently updated to Leapard and have run into various software conflicts.
The main problem I need help solving is with Quicktime. We use Quicktime Pro to record video and audio from a live event. We have had the problem the last two weeks where we will open Quicktime and, for some unbeknownst reason, it will be unresponsive. Force Quitting does nothing, and it appears that the program stays open, but when you try to click on any of the menus they do not open. The only remedy is to restart the computer, to which we never know if the problem will reappear or even WHEN it will reappear. The computer we are using is actually a MacBook Pro with the Intel Processor (sorry, don't have the exact details in front of me).
Our Leapard software has all of the updates, and we never had this problem on Tiger. Is this a software conflict, and how can we fix it?
I've noticed other programs doing quirky things... IE, Photoshop CS3 won't allow me to scroll through my fonts box with the arrow keys, or I can type in the text size box to change my font size, but nothing will change.
    Any help?

These software conflicts could be due to some inconsistency the Leopard upgrade caused in the System folder. Doing a clean "Archive & Install" of Leopard will probably fix your problems.

  • Quicktime Update program problems

I am really not happy with the quicktime update installer... I am being told there is a new update for quicktime, but in reality the blasted thing is just installing iTunes back on to my computer. And I then have to spend an hour removing iTunes and returning to my preferred media player. And the next day I am getting informed about another update... And so far, none of these updates have changed my quicktime.
iTunes makes my computer system unstable, causes my system to slow down by 5 to 10% on benchmarks, and does not actually uninstall itself... (You would think an uninstaller would ACTUALLY remove the program, not just remove the option to uninstall from the add/remove programs list.)
I DO NOT want iTunes on my system. I do not like being forced to install software just to get a supposed update that does not exist. I have had trojans and adware installed on my system that was easier to remove then iTunes.
Can you fix the updater software to correct this?

Unfortunately they are not responsive to this issue... After all, who would not want their wonderful product on their system... I was told to just uninstall it, and that my problems with the uninstall program not working must be a fluke that only happens on my system.
It acts like a trojan, and I do not like being reminded every time I boot my system that their is an update to a program that I do not want installed.
And if I can not get a response from them, why not take it to a public forum and see if they can actually do something about it then.

  • Is there a cheap or free good alternative program to Filemaker pro that will work on Mavericks and allow me to open FM databases from version 7?

I recently switched from a power pc (2004 I think) to a MacBook Pro, and had to upgrade so much. My old system was running Filemaker pro 7. I really need a good database program for my work (freelance/self-employed), and have forked out so much money on other programs, that I'm hoping I can find a freeware or shareware version of a good DB program to use that will work for me. Any suggestions? I am not that tech-savvy. Thanks.

Ditto on all those points.  I recommend Carbon Copy Cloner to make a full bootable backup.  Time Machine is NOT adequate, particularly for virtual machines.
After upgrading to Yosemite, make sure you do a repair permissions in disk utility....and be prepared for some 10.10 bugs (it's just now becoming stable).

  • Is there any alternative program for RSSTAT10 in ECC6.0 system

    Dear ABAPers,
    Issue scenario:
We are trying to create a report program in the ECC system to provide the details of the server workload. This report is a copy of the program RSSTAT10 which is working fine in other systems(3.1,4.7). The report works fine in those systems. But when we try to copy the same on ECC,we get a dump " CALL_FUNCTION_CONFLICT_TYPE ".
The Reason for the dump :
1.The reason is the mismatch of the field length in the import export parameters of the FM.
2.There are a few includes and FModules that do not exist in the ECC system, but are available in the other systems. For eg. RSSTAT10 is not available.
    Our question is :
Since RSSTAT10 is unavailable in the ECC is there an alternate program that can be used in order to generate the report that provides the details of the server workload in the ECC system?
    Regards,
    Prathap

  • QuickTime alternative DivX codec

    Greetings!
I'm dealing with an application that handles movies. The movies I'm currently working on are DivX movies with a “.avi” extension (they are not commercial movies, just some I converted from my camera).
I've installed the DivX 6 Decoder component found in Apple's Codecs page, but it shows the “DivX” logo at the bottom right corner of the movie for several seconds. My movies application, which relies on QuickTime, includes this logo in the final movie and it's, of course, not what I want.
Back in Leopard time, this DivX 6 Decoder component did not include the DivX logo, so I've tried replacing the newer (on my Lion system) by the older (in /Library/QuickTime) but now, QuickTime-related applications randomly crash (including QuickLook). This isn't unexpected, but at least I can transform my movies without this DivX logo.
Now, I'm wondering: could I find a DivX 6 Decoder component that doesn't display the DivX logo in the movie? Other components, like for MPEG or AppleIntermediateCodec, for example, don't make this.

    varjak paw wrote:
    You can try Perian:

Remove the DivX codec first; they cannot coexist without problems. That might decode your DivX files and allow you to export them without the watermark, though I don't know if all versions of DivX are supported.
That's weird, as I already have perian (since several years). Perhaps I should never had to install “DivX Decoder” in the first place (they interfer with each other, as you point out)? Or perhaps Perian doesn't handle my specific files…
    varjak paw wrote:
If not and you don't want to deal with an external converter, then paying for the Pro codec may be your only other option. This isn't uncommon with codec developers; they provide a playback-only codec for free but if you want to export or convert the format you have to pay. Check with DivX to be sure.
Ok. What I don't understand is why my converter (VisualHub) made DivX files if DivX is so “commercial” (=whose no free Codec exist which don't add watermarks). I just chose the “Avi” option, not DivX.
    Thank you.

  • Are there any parallels alternative programs?

Rather than booting Mac OS X and Windows separately, I was wondering if I could use both at the same time. I know I can with Parallels, but I was hoping there was a free alternative out there?
I already checked with open source sites, like sourceforge, but didn't find anything.

    Hi Eric,
first thing coming to mind is VirtualBox http://www.virtualbox.org/
Also at the end of this article there is a list of possibilities: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine
But to my knowledge in terms of speed and reliability nothing beats Parallels or Fusion.

  • Which alternative Programing Language do you suggest ?

Except from Labview, which we all like, which other programming language do you suggest, and why ?
(as a second option, for making projects)
We make electronic devices for industrial control. (measurment, monitoring, data logging ....)
As i can not make up my mind, any comments are usefull.

As has been said before, that's a little too open-ended of a question. However, we can give you some insight to answer it for yourself. I think languages such as C are what assembly language was to C a few years ago. Many higher-level languages have been written in C (including LabVIEW) but I wouldn't waste my time learning it unless you have a lot of time to learn it and need to develop algorithms that work under the hood in a dll and such. If you want to invest heavily (and I mean heavily) learning C learn C++ instead since it is the industry standard and is object-oriented. If you want to learn a higher-level, text-based, useful, easily learned and cross-platform object-oriented language with a quick development time I would go with Python. Python is not the best performing language out there, but it is powerful, compiles on-the-fly, can be used with LV and there is huge open source community supporting it. And Python is used just about everywhere. And I started learning it myself just a few months ago.
