Quicktime closes when trying to change video settings

I just bought PRO and now i cant even use it. I open my avi file, go to export and when i go into options and i click on SETTINGS for video quicktime beeps and closes... no warning message no error NOTHING. i can get into the audio settings just not the video. And its bothering me that theres no official support COME ON APPLE i just gave you money at least give me a telephone number come on.

I have the same problem - I have a MP4 movie file that's using the H264 codec that I need to play via a PowerPoint presentation - so I need to convert it to something more Windows friendly. I wanted to export the mp4 as a AVI using one of the lossless codecs I have which I would then convert to a WMV file using Windows Media Encoder. The minute I tried to change any video settings on the export feature on QT Pro QT Pro crashed. Of course looking around the QT page for any support information is pointless (because it's not there) - and I purchased Pro with QT 7.2 and can't revert to another version.
And looking around the +QT for Mac OS+ forum this is not just a Windows problem - it's a QT Pro 7.2 problem. I thought Apple applications were flawless and didn't crash??? +<insert sarcasm>+ Anyway...it would be nice to have something that works for my $30 rather than a overpriced video player.

Because error seems to be, in some way, related to the video drivers, here is my graphics settings:
I'm using XFX GeForce 260 GTX with latest available Nvidia drivers (340.52)
I've managed to partially 'solve' this problem by downgrading to Skype version 6.3, but i'm not sure, how long I could use it, before it becomes 'outdated'
So, if anyone have encountered similar issues, please share info, may be there are any other solutions which don't involve downgrading skype

I don't know if this is relevant, but on my Windows 7 64-bit system and NVIDIA 210 graphic card, nvapi.dll is located in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ folder, while in C:\Windows\System32\ there is the 64-bit version of this dll, i.e nvapi64.dll.
Please, run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit version).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

"Unkown Error (-50)" when trying to change iPod settings via iTunes

Hello everyone.
I got an 5.5 iPod Video (30gb) for christmas and I can't update the name of the Ipod nor change the settings for music, TV shows, movies, podcasts, pictures or even reset it!
I can however sync music, tv shows, movies and pocasts (not pictures).
So I called Apple the other day and told them about my problem. The guy I was talking to told me that the only option avaible was to send the iPod to Apple and have them repair it. And so I did. It came back today with 1.2 update installed, instead of 1.2.1 which I used before I had the iPod sent for repair. The enclosed papers said that they (Apple) could not find any problems on the iPod itself and it's batterys and that "it met Apples specifications for acceptable performance, usablity and/or functionality."
Yeah well... It doesnt. I'm using a PC with Windows XP, Service Pack 2 and I have USB 2.0. I have the latest version of iTunes and I had the latest firmwire update for my Ipod (1.2.1) and it didn't work.
When I first plugged the iPod in today when it had version 1.2 installed it worked, but the next time I plugged it in.. well, it didnt work. So right now I'm using 1.2.
I've tried re-installing iTunes and restoring the iPod via both iTunes and on the iPod itself. Nothing works. Can someone here help me out?
Btw. I'm using an iPod dock.

Itunes/quicktime crashes when trying to play video podcasts and 3GP files

I've searched these forums and didn't see anything that might help me, so if know of any solutions posted already, please let me know. I have an HP laptop(AMD Turion 64 X2 2.0 GB processor, 2 GB or RAM) running Windows Vista Home Premium. I used to be able to play 3GP files at one time with Quicktime, but now I cannot. Then, the other day I tried to play a video podcast and it starts to play, then says, "Itunes has stopped working". Quicktime does the same thing with 3GP files. This was before my update to Itunes 8.0. It happpened with Itunes 7.5.11.1 or whatever the last version was. It obviously does the same thing with Itunes 8. I've tried completely uninstalling Itunes and quicktime, then reinstalling them both and I still have the same problem. Just a note: I tried playing the video podcast via Windows Media Playey, and it worked fine, except for no audio(I don't think WMP has AAC support) so I think something is conflicting between Itunes and my computer. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Immediate window close when trying to change wallpaper

Hello there, I have been trying to change the wallpaper on my computer for several days but whenever i hit the button for change picture it immediately closes the window and i am stuck on the same picture and i dont know how to fix it. i also dont know how to change the screensaver and it is getting really anoying. Try deleting the Desktop settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart.
After restarting, open System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver, and you should be able to change your wallpaper and screensaver

When trying to change wireless settings, browser hangs

I have Verizon Fios and I've been trying unsucessfully to change the SSID, firewall settings, and WEP to WPA for a few days now. Every time I hit "Apply changes" in the wireless settings, I'm told I'll be temporarily disconnected. But then, the browser does this constant refresh thing....and never connects back to the internet, none or my changes are saved, and I have to reset the router all over again. I've been looking around at the help and so far haven't been able to find anything.

Are you making the changes via the wireless connection?
If you are, you must then input the new SSID and WAP information into your computer before you can connect back to the router. Changing it in the router will not help your PC. Also when making change in the router, it may be better to use a hardwired connection.

Quicktime crashes when trying to export video

I just upgraded to Quicktime Pro 7 (from Quicktime 7.1). Evertime I try to export a video (homemade avi) Quicktime crashes. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, but the problem still exists. The video was created with Pinnacle Studio version 9. Can anyone help?

Often, issues such as you describe are caused by the Lr preferences file becoming corrupted. This can lead to something being embedded in the file that the encoder or the viewing application can't habdle. It's therefore worth either trashing or tempoarily relocating the Lr preference file. System preferences crash when trying to change network settings web proxy

I'm trying to add a web proxy under the network panel of system preferences. When I set up the password for the web proxy, the system preference panel crashes. I've successfully done this in the past. I'm not sure why the problem is occuring now.

First thing to do is download Preferential Treatment and check all preference files, while logged into that problematic account. Trash any that it finds broken/corrupt. Quit the associated apps and try System Preferences again. If PT doesn't find any, then move the usual plists to the Desktop (com.apple.systempreferences.plist amd com.apple.NetworkUtility/plist in ~/Library/Preferences/, including any such as com.apple.systempreferences.XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.plists in the ByHost folder and try System Preferences again.
If those steps don't fix things, you can either copy the ones from the new user to the corrupt user, a couple at a time, log out and back in, and see if any fix or break things. That's a slow and tedious process. Alternatively, log into the new account, reset prefs, and eventally delete the old one. There's no easy way except to routinely make a bootable backup/clone and when you experience these kinds of problems again, restore it, and move on.

Error message when trying to change Foreground/Background color

Just in case anyone is having this problem in Photoshop CC where when you try to change/exchange or set to default the Background/Foreground colors and you get an error message of something like "Could not complete because of program error". I found the cure for this in an archive from when CS6 was in beta testing. Basically you have to delete the preferences file and restart the program. "an error occurred when trying to change modules"

When I switch repeatedly between Library and Develop with the R and E keys, I always sooner or later run into a problem where nothing happens when I press R. Really that should go the Develop module and enter crop mode -- what I'm usually trying to do, when this happens, is crop a bunch of photos. So I'll be using Library mode to identify the photos that need cropping, stepping through photos with the arrow keys, then when I find one that I want to crop, I press R, enter develop+crop mode, crop the photo, press E to return to library+loupe view, and continue.
Sometimes this works 10 times, sometimes it only works twice, but always, relatively soon, when I press R, "nothing" will happen. Actually what's happening is an error dialog appears saying "an error occurred when trying to change modules", then the error dialog immediately disappears before I can read it. I know what it says, because if I click the Develop module with the mouse, I get the same message but it sticks around until I press OK.
Once this happens, I'm entirely unable to use the Develop module until I quit the program. I had to quit and restart LR about 20 times during an hour of working with it last night, and this morning, in the first 15 minutes, I'm already on the 3rd restart.
Anyone else see this?
Details: LR 1.1 on Mac OS 10.4.10, 4-core Mac Pro, images are a mix of JPG from a pocket camera and NEF from a Nikon D40. I don't think it is related to the specific images, as it strikes apparently at random, and after exit and restart, I can crop that same photo, but a different one will eventually cause the same problem again.

Sean, thanks for the Return key tip. I knew about that at one point, but lately I was trying to use Enter (the one on the numeric keypad, at the very lower right corner of the keyboard, which is really easy to hit with my thumb even when my hand is on the mouse! And Enter doesn't invoke the crop, so I forgot that Return did). That is a better way.
I don't see the RE problem on my MacBook, only on my desktop computer, and that one is also experiencing other flakiness (
metamatt, "missing text / thumbnails / many Lightroom UI elements disappeared" #, 18 Aug 2007 3:08 pm) so I think I'm going to try a complete reinstall there.
