Quicktime Corruption

I recently downloaded ITunes and have the icon sitting on my desktop. I have tried to install it several times, but keep receiving the following error:
"the cabinet file 'Quicktime.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package."
I guess ITunes gives you 3 options so I can pick one!! I have spent more than enough time trying to get in touch with Apple regarding this issue. So far, no resolution.
Any info on this delay is truly appreciated!!

the first thing you need to do is find out where those "missing" tapes have gone, and then get them back ... losing the source tapes is not an option unless the director wants to be labeled as incompetant.
whereas the source media may be corrupted and won't play back directly, the render files, pertaining to those sections of the clips that may have been renedered in the timeline, may still be ok.
make self-contained movie(s) out your current timeline(s) as a backup. if necessary, use in and out points to export the timeline in smaller sections.
it may be that you have some drive or disk directory coruption which has damaged the source media files. back everything up to a new drive, then try using Disk Utility, Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro to check for directory damage on the possibly corrupted disk. use those same tools to rebuild the directory.

  • Quicktime corrupted for iPad 2 videos - no hand cursor controls

I have a 32-bit Dell XPS M1210 laptop and a 64-bit Dell XPS 435 desktop - both of which have had hard drives recently formatted and authentic Win 7 SP1 installed. Not much on either but IE8, Office 2003, HP Printers, Live Mesh, Avast, Google Earth and a few insignificant programs which are not common to both machines. Neither had ever had Quicktime installed until today since I just started rebuilding both. Wanted to watch the iPad 2 videos just posted. Downloaded current Quicktime, installation flawless.
Quicktime will not run properly on either machine. Same exact corruption problem on both despite 64 vs. 32 bit etc. The videos play, the black centered controls for Pause, volume etc. are there, however I cannot use them. Cursor blinks to a hand for a split second as I hover over controls, but then changes back to Arrow pointer and is not clickable anywhere on video. So, I can watch the video but can't pause, rewind etc. - no controls.
I have an old Dell XPS-410 Windows Prof. XP SP3 with Quicktime 7.69.80.9 which runs the videos perfectly, pauses controls etc.
Since the only thing in common with these two machines where Quicktime is corrupted is Win 7, I suspect problem may be centered there? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. If I go find OLD quicktime clips online which have the simple gray control bar at the bottom, they do work to pause etc. AFTER the clip finishes downloading.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Ruth

The ipad is certainly no replacement for a computer/laptop.
It is used in conjunction with a laptop/computer. It is simply a big ipod/iphone.
I would not even consider the ipad for your needs.

If the PC is rebooting, then that sounds like the most pressing issue. We'd probably better attend to it before attending to the QuickTime launch problem.
Are you getting any sort of blue screen just prior to the PC restarting? If so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x\[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
If the blue screen mentions a specific file (for example, “ati3duag.dll”), let us know what that is called too. (Exact spelling, please.)
Here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
If you're not seeing a blue screen (or if you’re just seeing a flash of a blue screen before the PC reboots), we can use the following technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
With those settings in place, does a blue screen appear before the PC reboots?

  • Quicktime corrupted / iTunes won't launch / Win 7

I've been avidly reading the posts of "b noir" to try and remedy my situation but so far to no avail.
Briefly: I "broke" both QuickTime and iTunes by trying to make UbiSoft's Myst run on my Win 7: the solution there was to uninstall QuickTime (10) and install QuickTime (6). I did that and Myst kind of ran... So I went to uninstall QT6 and my major problems started. I reinstalled QT10 but neither QT or iTunes would launch. I could see the iTunes process via the Task Manager briefly for a second or two but then it goes away. I tried uninstalling QT10 and it would not uninstall: I finally used "Revo Uninstall" to do so and then uninstalled iTunes. Then I reinstalled both via a fresh iTunes install and I have the same situation. No amount of rebooting or install/uninstall seems to get me out of this situation.
Following the posts of "b noir" I can say:
    1) I have no "codec" installed (not sure what that is, but I haven't installed anything recently.)
2)my Windows\win32 has no QT files in it
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My mistake... I uploaded iTunes 10 (which I understand has QuickTime bundled into the install). I checked the version of QT and it is 7.69.80.9.
Just to be safe, I downloaded QT installer from the link you provided and was going to re-install QT but again it fails to uninstall. The uninstall dialog box has a progress bar that seems to get to about 98% and then just rolls back to 0% and I get a splash screen saying the uninstall completed (although it didn't.)
So, to answer your question: yes, QT 7.69.80.9 installs and launches but only very briefly. I was watching the processes via the Task Manager and QuickTimePlayer.exe*32 seems to run for about 1-2 seconds then disappears from the list. One other item appears under processes at the same time (and also shortly disappears) named WerFault.exe*32.
Currently I have iTunes 10 uninstalled, and QT 7.69 installed but unusable.
    Thanks for looking into this!

  • Error Messages for iTunes and Quicktime, what do I do?

Hello, I'm in need of some help.
Let me walk you all through what I did for the last 4 hours:
(important note: I suck at far too much computer stuff, so I am fully aware that as you read the following, at certain points I probably made the problem much worse than it needed to be, I am not proud of this, but everything you read did happen, stupid as it probably was for me to pursue the problems in the particular way that I did. Hindsight is 20/20.)
I updated my iTunes v7.7 to v8.0 today, and after trying it out for a while decided that I didn't like it and wanted to go back to what I was using before.
So, because I didn't know what else to do, I tried to re-install the original iTunes software that came with my iPod (a 20gig classic I bought in 2004). That version of iTunes was v6.0 (again, 3 years ago).
Part way through the installation process, I got a message that said that, because I had a newer version of iTunes on the computer already, it wouldn't install the version on the disk.
So I uninstalled v8.0, restarted my computer, and installed the v6.0 from the CD-ROM I had.
It was then that I found I had NONE of the 6000+ songs in my iTunes window. I checked my computers files to find that they were still in the library, but my iTunes screen was completely devoid of all my music.
So I tried to get it all back on the player. I discovered that by right-clicking "Play" for the individual files from the folders in my iTunes that they would come up on the player, but that meant that I'd be clicking in 6000+ songs, one by one, till they were all back. I didn't want to do that.
So I tried a system restore (again, read "important note" at top of post). After that happened and I was looking at my desktop again, tried opening iTunes, and it gave me a message that said:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
And it asks if I wanna send an error report. I decline, then try opening Quicktime. Same message. So I try to uninstall both programs (i know, i know, "important note"), and iTunes uninstalls, Quicktime does not, because, as my computer puts it, "a fatal error occurs."
But since I have iTunes uninstalled, I go to apples site and download iTunes v8.0 again. After waiting for all that to get done, I get the same error message.
So I peruse this very discussion forum, and after looking for a good while at what is being recommended I go to a site and download v7.7 again.
Again, I get the same error message.
So here I am. I've tried working it out myself for the last 4 hours, and I seem to have made things worse.
So please, please, PLEASE, I ask for any help you can provide.
Can I get my iTunes back?
    Is my Quicktime corrupted now?
    Am I totally screwed?

I had the same problem when I went to upgrade to 8 and then downgrade back to 7.7. To fix this is a little involved, but you can do it. Let me put it this way, I talked my mother through it on the phone, and she has a hard time finding the power button So no worries, I'll help you get back up and running. I am running Vista now, so I am going off of memory for Vista, so bear with me.
    I would do the following:
    1. Uninstall both iTunes and Quicktime by going to Control Panel-Add Remove Programs, and choosing first Quicktime then iTunes.
    2. Clean your registry. Easy now, it is not that hard. To do it, go to http://www.ccleaner.com/download and download CCleaner. It is free and has NO spyware. Install it and run the registry cleaner. It will remove any trace of both programs from the registry. Now you have 2 choices.
3a. Now I would install iTunes 8. Because you already installed it once, it converted its database file that it uses to track the library and play lists up to the iTunes 8 standard.
3b. If you have no problem loosing your playlists and library settings, you can go back to iTunes 7.7. To do this, first search for "itunes.ttl". To do this, go to Start-Search Files and Folders- and type in "iTunes.ttl" Once the search finishes, it will tell you where it is located. Navigate there using Windows Explorer or My Computer and delete it. Now you can install iTunes 7.7 with out any errors. You will not loose any files! just your playlists and it will not remember what is in your library.
As far as adding your songs again, did you try to re-importing your music? If you go to the file menu-add folder to library. It will bring up a dialogue box that will allow you to browse to the folder with your music.
Let me know if this works. I will help in anyway I can.
    Good Luck,
    linesma

  • Windows media is corrupt, I have QuickTime but don't know how to make the change, can you please help me?

Hi, I am new to you and I am having problems with my Windows Media. I ran a fix it test on it and it came back saying that the player is corrupt and can not read the dll. Plus I have gotten pop-ups saying the script on the page had quit running 2 or 3 times, that's what made me check it. I have Quick Time on here, I have never used it before. How do I properly go about making the the switch? Do I delite the Windows Media? Do I need to do anything to QuickTime other than just open it? Thank you so much for your time & help.

When you say "account," do you mean your iTunes library, because your iTunes library is what is on your computer?  Your iTunes library does not have an email address.  An account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID (which is an email address) and you use it as your user name to sign in to the iTunes Store, to make purchases.  Changing your Apple ID will not make songs disappear from your computer's iTunes library.
If you had an Apple ID and used it to make song purchases from the iTunes Store, and then started using a different Apple ID, you should be able to re-download the songs purchased with the old Apple ID.  In iTunes, sign in to the iTunes Store using your OLD Apple ID (and password).  That may not be your current email address, but Apple uses it as your user name, so it does not matter.
On the iTunes Store Home screen, click on Purchased under QUICK LINKS.  This takes you do the Purchased screen, where you can re-download previous song purchases (for that Apple ID) at no cost.
NOTE:  If those song purchases are from more than a few years ago, you may also need to authorize your computer to play (and sync) songs for your old Apple ID.
For songs that were not purchased from the iTunes Store, if they are also gone, you cannot get them back unless you have a backup (or they are still loaded on your old iPod).
If that's not what you mean by "changed the email address on my account," please post back with more details.

  • AE CC 2014 Corrupted and Glitched frames when rendering to Quicktime

Ever since upgrading to the newest version of After Effects, I've been getting corrupted and glitched frames when rendering videos with a Quicktime holder.  My normal workflow is rendering the video straight out of AE, but it also happens when rendering with Adobe Media Encoder, or even while using the "BG Renderer" script for AE that renders from the terminal.  It happens whether I have multiprocessing enabled or not.
The corruption differs depending on what codec I'm using, but in the Cineform Codec it shows up as green frames:
On DNxHD they show up as Red frames (don't have a screencap of this one but you get the idea).
Using the QT Animation Codec they show up as static or distortion:
I have not found a codec that does not become corrupted when encased in the QT holder.  Image sequences render out fine, and Cineform with an AVI holder renders out fine.
Even more strangely, I can fix the problem if I link the AE composition to Premiere, then render the QT file out through Premiere itself.  The fact that Premiere calls and renders the Comp fine but AE does not, makes me think this is a bug in AE's treatment of Quicktime rather then a driver/system incompatibility on my end.  But I'm certainly willing to try any suggestions the community might have for me =]

  • Corrupt songs will play in quicktime - but won't copy to HDD.

    Hi All,
Background/Symptoms: My macbook pro (2008 unibody) crashed a little while ago. It started being really sluggish, so I tried to install an update and during the update I got an error. I turned off the computer and it wouldn't boot past the apple logo. When I started it in Verbose mode I was getting a disk input output error.
    What I've tried:
    1. Took it to the genius bar, after the tests on the HDD he said that it appeared to be fine and to try reinstalling the OS.
    2. I tried booting it up in target disk mode to copy my files over to my imac and was able to get off a good portion of my documents. When I tried to copy over music I would get an error 36 saying that it couldn't be copied, I went through the artists individually and it said this for about 90% of them.
    3. I tried reinstalling snow leopard (that was my current OS) but about 1/4 the way through the install a big exclamation mark appeared and it said the install failed.
    4. After the failure above, I did an archive and install of Leopard (not snow leopard) and was able to get the OS up and running.
    Current Situation:
So with the semi success above, I can view my music in the previous systems folder from the macbook pro's new OS. When I try to add the music to itunes, it says it's corrupt and won't add. I get the same error (36) when I try to copy it from the previous systems folder to an external hard drive or just to the desktop of the macbook pro. Here is the weird thing. When I open the corrupt files in quicktime player, they play! On one of the songs that I'm testing, only the first 3 minutes plays and then it ends, but on most of the others it will play fully. Is there a way to scan for the corrupt songs and only copy over the ones that aren't corrupt?
Thanks in advance, please let me know if there are more details I can provide.
    ~Greg

I have experienced that when there is something a little quirky about the files. Personally, what I would do in your situation is use iTunes to convert the files to AAC using these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550 Then see if the AACs transfer to the iPod.

  • Corrupted Quicktime Program

I currently have a corrupted version of Quicktime that will not allow me to uninstall(something about a file missing). It will not allow me to install my itunes/quicktime program for my ipod. How can I get rid of the corrupted quicktime program?

The uninstaller for QT 6 is unvise32qt located somewhere in C:\windows\system 32. If it is missing the add\remove programs control panel will not remove QT. Then you would have to remove it manually and then go into the registry to remove QT from the add\remove control panel.
Somewhere on the web I read that there is some spyware or virus or something of the sort that is masquerading itself as unvise32qt. So when a anti spyware program is used to scan a computer it picks up on it, and quarintines or removes or whatever it does. Thinking it is the spyware rather than the QT uninstaller, therefore the trouble uninstalling QT.
You could also try windows installer cleanup utility, to see if it may help.

  • How to fix a corrupt QuickTime file?

    Hey all,
Today I recorded all of our church services via iMovie (one long 4 hour clip), as I have been doing for more than a month now. However, the guy running the camera turned the camera off before I told iMovie to stop importing, so iMovie literally trashed the file.
I pulled the 50GB file out of the trash, but now QuickTime is giving me an error: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file." When I open the file in MPEG Streamclip, It says "File open error: unrecognized file type", and I click "Open Anyway". It tries to open it, but sfter 20 minutes, I get the error: "File open error: can't find video or audio tracks".
Any idea how to fix this file? (That is, outside of paying $150 for this service: http://simplemoviex.com/movierepair/repair.html .) It is not mission critical to have this file, but there was a baptism this morning that I would like to have...
    Matthew

    Hi Janke,
If you have Time Machine or another backup system that keeps multiple versions, you may be able to work our way back to a version that does not demonstrate the corruption.

  • PSCS6 H.264 Video Corruption in QuickTime 10.0

We're seeing an issue when exporting in H.264 (High Quality) and playing in QuickTime 10.0 (Mac OS 10.6).  We are using a custom size video to fit a spot on our website (398x498).  When exported and played in QuickTime 10.0 the white inverts throughout the video (back and forth).  The same issue is not seen when viewed in VLC, QuickTime 10.1 Chrome, Firefox, Flash or IE.
We are also NOT seeing the same issue when we export the same video to a different custom size (336x596).  Those videos play normal in QT10.0.  And lastly we're NOT seeing this issue when exporting as QuickTime/JPEG2000 format.
Very strange.  Anyone know of why this might be happening?
This is how the video should look:
And this is how they are appearing:
But like I said, the issue is very specific to QuickTime 10.0 on Mac 10.6.  VLC, Flash, Chrome, FireFox all play it correctly.

  • Quicktime.cpl corrupted

My Itunes had a corrupted file, and would not open, it reccomended I run chkdsk, but it would only run the program in read-only mode, and get to 9% and find errors and instantly closed.   I uninstalled itunes, but it said I would need to uninstall quicktime as well to reinstall itunes.  IT wouldn't let me do this.  I've been able to delete everything but quicktime.cpl   in the QT system folder.  I've been screwing with this for HOURS, I can't figure out how to delete this file.   I don't even know if this will fix my problem when I uninstall it, but totally stuck here.   When I try to delete it, it says error 0x80070091  directory is not empty   and it will not delete.
I've also even tried downloading the windows installer clean up, and zsoft, but NOTHING will get rid of this file. I made sure I had all the permissions correct, I've restarted my computer, and I can't think of anything else to do.  I'm out of ideas, PLEASE help me.....

If all else fails try thorough uninstallation. A good resource for this is apple's own knowledge base. Follow the steps after the error codes on knowledge base article 93976. That should get you started in the right direction.

  • Corrupted Quicktime files

recently our company purchased a new Intel dual quad with 4 GB ram. We are running Leopard. We have a Kona LHE Card and an AJA Break Out Box for Analog. Right away we found problems were happening but the weirdest problem we have is that everything we do with Quicktime results in corrupted files. Just a basic drag and drop from another hard drive, will result %80 of the time in a file that eitehr wont play or will play but have the pink digital static midway through for a few seconds. When we bring a completely clean Quicktime into FCP, most of the time it will then have digital corruption on one frame or another. When we go back to the original QT file it is clean. If we take a perfectly Clean QT file and try to save as or Export, we will recieve a corrupted or distorted QT File in return. Basically every time we touch a QT file something gets corrupted.

I don't know how to fix what was already modified, but in Premiere Preferences, there is a box that is checked by default, something about "Write XMP data" or similar, you'll want to uncheck that.

  • Corrupted Quicktime file, CHKDSK issue

    Hi there,
I have a corrupted/unreadable Quicktime file, so I can't uninstall it or reinstall a new version until I get rid of it or fix it. I'm trying to run CHKDSK, but it won't run on reboot. I went into Task Scheduler, and the log says it fails to run because of "Login failure: Unknown user name or bad password". When I go into the properties of the scheduled task, I have "Run whether user is logged in or not" selected, so I don't know what else to do...

    Hi, bozzah
    I probably can do it.
    I will need two things:
A sample of your corrupted file and a 10 seconds good recording done with the exact same settings as the corrupted file.
Drop me an email and I explain you the details.
