Quicktime Does Not Open All Movies

I have a video that was made in 1997, stored on a 1.44MB diskette, and now I'm trying to open it with Quicktime. Quicktime simply comes up with a white screen but goes through the automation.
The Type is "MooV' and the Creator is "TVOD". I have never heard of this type or creator. I have tried several different applications that work with videos without success. I know the video is there as some of the video applications show a proper thumbnail image of whats in the movie.
I would like to translate this to Quicktime. Some of the older software allowed this.
Can anyone help me?
Bud

You can try VisualHub from Techspansion:
http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/
Also, try dragging the file on top of RealPlayer 10 while holding
down both  and Option (Apple Option) keys. RealPlayer is supposed
to be able to handle QuickTime files, it may even be able to open some
supported files that the current version of QuickTime will not open.
RealPlayer is available here:
https://order.real.com/pt/order.html?country=US&language=EN&mppi=0&mpposlist=0&mpst=0&ppath=cpmacpl060204a&pageregion=player_button&pcode=rn&opage=realh ome_spmac_bb&src=realhome_spmac_bb_0_1_1_0_0_20
( If the above link does not work, go to the front page, http://www.real.com/ , and select the blue button near the top right, " RealPlayer - Free " ).
If you are not able to open it with either of the two suggestions above, you can send me the file, and I will try to open it. I am almost sure that I can find a way to open it.
Hope this helps, take care.

  • Quicktime does not convert my .MOV file into a watchable format on Quicktime

    Hi guys!
I won't give you all a long sob story but basically, I went to my first music festival over the weekend and uploaded my videos onto my friends computer, I then uploaded these videos (i took with my iPhone) to Google Drive. When i got back onto my own computer, I download the .MOV files from Google Drive, these videos would not convert into a watchable format. It gives me the message -
"QuickTime Player can't open "IMG_8788.MOV". To see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie, click Tell Me More."
It says that Quicktime should support MOV files. I am using version 10.3 Quicktime player with iOS Mavericks. I really want help with this issue as I will be devastated if these videos are lost. My friend obviously deleted them off his computer because they did take up alot of space!

iPhone recorded files should already be compatible QT X v10.3 (and QL) as is in the MOV file container. However, the process of downloading, uploading, and again downloading the files may have created some sort of issue causing QT X to not properly "recognize" the content and thus, wants you to check for additional support.
In any case, will the files open in any other media players? (E.g., VLC, MPlayerX, NicePlayer, QT 7, MPEG Streamclip, etc.) For instance, if the files open in QT 7 Pro, MPEG Streamclip, or VLC, you may be able to copy the data to a new MOV file container which QT X will open and play. (I.e., this procedure does not recompress the data and is reasonable quick. Also not sure if using the "Command-D" Finder option to "duplicate" the file will create a "readable" file or not but you might try it.)

  • Safari Does Not Open QT Movie (.mov)

    Using: Safari Version 3.2.1 (5525.27.1)
    QT Player 7.6.2
    OS X 10.5.6
    1. From a web page, I click on a QT movie link named movie.mov.
A web page opens with the QT icon only but no movie plays.
    2. Pasting the URL from the web page into QT Player yields no movie.
Movie inspector indicates that there is zero bytes in movie.
    3. Control clicking the .mov movie link from the web page, and
Downloading the movie results in a 60 KB file. Which is then
    successfully opened in QT Player.
Questions: Can someone explain why Safari will not open the movie?
Also, why will QT Player not open the movie from the URL?
    All input is welcomed.
    bob

    Hi QuicktimeKirk,
    1. Sloppy page code (proven by your question 3).
Yes, Hawaiian_Starman has mentioned that as a possibility.
I've received a response from my instructor; he states:
"It sounds like a setting in your browser.  Perhaps you don't have the right plugin for your browser or QuickTime is not set as the default plugin to view .mov files."
However, I have the QT 7.6.2 plugin.
    2. QuickTime can open dozens of file formats but pasting a URL to a "page" (text file) isn't one of them.
Perhaps that is what he has done; however, why can I Control-click the link and "Download Linked File"; double click the downloaded movie.mov file which opens in QT Player, and view this 60 KB file of a man speaking "This is my movie." NOTE: It was my error in an earlier post to state that it was only a TEXT message in the movie.mov file.
"Copy" the direct link to the blah.mov file found in the Web page.
Open QuickTime Player, Command-U (Open URL) and paste the link in the dialog window. QuickTime Player will take care of the rest.
I've done this; see 2.) in my original thread. To be certain, I followed your advice above and Control-clicked the link to "Copy Link"; opened QT Player, pressed Command-U and the "Movie URL:" text box already contained the URL. Pressing "OK" opened a QT player but there was only zero KB.
To summarize and clarify my actions, I have done three things in order to open the LINK to the MOVIE.MOV file:
    1. Clicked on the link, resulting in a QT icon only on the web page.
    2. Control-clicked the link and selected "Copy Link", resulting in a zero KB file in QT Player.
    3. Control-clicked the link and selected "Download Linked File", resulting in a 60KB movie.mov.
    bob
P.S. I do not understand HTML; but if that would help, here is the SOURCE surrounding the text "*View Quicktime Video*" which is the link I have been clicking on to arrive at the movie.mov file.
Oops, I do not know how to enter HTML in this discussion so you can ONLY view the HTML structure.

  • LR5.3 CC Catalog does not open all folders.

    Hi !
Last week I upgraded from LR4.3 to LR5.3CC on Windows 8, and since them I'm facing issues with the catalog.
I have about 80.000 pictures in one catalog, splitted in subfolders by date. If I click in the main folder (Photos), I can browse all pictures:
All works well until Feb 10, 2011.  When I click on the date, it gets highlighted and all works well.
But, when I click on any date following Feb 10, 2011, it does not highligh as expected (actually it becomes only a little bit brighter), and it does not open the folder for browsing, but the navigator shows the first picture in the folder. The picture counting for each folder is correct. When I add more pictures and more folders to the catalog the folders and countings are updated, but the problem remains in the new folder.
What have I tried so far.
    1) I inspected the folders looking for strange files - didn't find any.
    2) I recreated the whole catalog.
    3) I created another catalog for some of those non working folders, and it worked fine.
    4) I optimized the catalog.
    5) I rendered 1:1 previews.
    6) I rebooted LR and Windows.
It's very frustrating. Never had a problem with LR4.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ronald

Optimizing the catalogue was a good move.
I wonder if this is a variation of the bug where Lightroom fails to display long lists on Windows. Usually after about 1600 items, keywords for instance, any subsequent ones are hidden. So I'm thinking 11th February might be the 1601st.
What happens if you add a year folder and drag the date-folders under it? I'd just create one year initially, 2010, and then see if folders after 2012-02-11 behave normally.

  • Itunes or Quicktime does not open !!!

Ok I frist tried to upgrade my previous Itunes 6 to Itunes 7.0.1
Then after downloading and everything I try opening Itunes
Next I get the Lisciencing Page (agree-decline)
    After that nothing happens ...
Itunes would just have its arrow pointing at it ... and I would have to force quit
Then I read I needed a higher version of Quicktime - So I beleive that the problem is the Quicktime ....
    Download QT 7
From here the Quicktime does not even open anymore ....
Mess with a couple things install reinstall ... take the itunes recipt out of the library ad such but still does not work
So I decide to straight re install my Mac OS from the ground up ....
    Back Up everything
Install everything ... download itunes 7.0.1 quicktime 7
    It works ...
From here i decided to drop my music i saved on an external hard drive ...
Now whenever I try to open Itunes ... Itunes does the same thing from where I tried to fix ...
It Doesnt open just sits on the dock .... forcing to quit again ...
SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHATS WRONG ...

What system software does your computer have?
Your info says 10.0.x, but that can't be true if you previously ran iTunes 6.
If you did an Erase and Install or an Archive and Install, you should not have problems when you're at least running OS X 10.3.9.
You may read Mac OS X 10.3.9, 10.4: Some Apple applications don't open to see if it applies to your situation.

  • Mpeg-2 module for quickTime does not read a .mov (HDV codec 1080i50)

    Hi,
I've just bought the Mpeg-2 module for QuickTime for Windows, I've installed it and it does not work.
It cannot read .mov files with codec HDV 1080i50.
I can hear the sound, but I cannot watch the video.
Please, may somebody help me ?
    Thanks
    Mario

How to read a .mov file with the HDV codec on my PC ?
The file has been edited using Final Cut Pro on a Mac.
I have to edit the titles and realise the DVD authoring, but I cannot use it.
I've bought the module after reading on the Apple website that the module could read this kind of file on QuickTime Pro.
Any idea to read it on a PC?
    Thanks
    Mario

  • Aperture 3.5 does not open all files in external editor (PS CS6)

When I select several photos in Aperture (which are parts of a panorama serie for example) and click choose to open them in the external editor (here Adobe Photoshop CS6), only a random subset are opened.
Aperture warns me if I want the (for example) 14 pictures to be exported for edition, I confirm, but I end up with only (for example) 9 photos in Photoshop. The missing ones can be any photos (not necessarily the first or latest).
Note that 9 is not an upper limit, I once opened 23 photos and only had 21 in Photoshop opened.
If I again select those same photos and choose to export them (either as PSD using the same format as with the Editor command, or asking for the original that was created for the external editor) to a folder. Then when I open all the photos at once form the finder (or Bridge) to Photoshop, I have all the photos in Photoshop. So Photoshop has no problem opening the files.
Do you have the problem too? How do you solve it?
For the time being I manually export the files, open them from the Finder, stitch them in PS and reimport the result in Aperture.
A bit tedious... If there is no work around, I will try to fiddle with some automation...
    Final note:
PS CS6, Aperture and OS X are all at there latest respective versions (i-e respectively: 13.0.6, 3.5.1 and 10.9.2)

I was just noticing this issue with A2.0.1
Selecting multiple files in A2, only one would open in Photoshop.
I have found that, if when opening files from Aperture, the color setting profile in PS is different than the color tag in the image, such as sRGB vs aRGB, the mismatch warning appears and stops subsequent photos opening.
If the image profile matches the color settings in PS, then all selected photos open from Aperture to PS.

  • Quicktime does not open, etc.

ok, when i go to open Quick time, it doesn't open, instead, a window ALWAYS pops up saying: "Quicktime player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." How do I solve that problem?
Also, when i open the "add or remove programs" window, quicktime doesn't appear on the list(this is under "change or remove programs"), why is this?
I would appreciate it very much if someone could tell me the solution to these 2 problems. Thanx =)

It would seem to me that the solution would be that you have to remove QT manually from the computer then download and install a new version.
I really don't see doing a repair myself to get the exsisting QT running. For QT to not appear in the add\remove control panel would appear to me that a registry key was deleted, I don't know how else it would have been removed from the control panel.

  • Dragging files to TextEdit icon does not open all of them

    Hi all,
Many times I have to work with .doc files that contain smalls amount of text to be copied and pasted. So I don't open Pages or Word, TextEdit handles this documents quite well, unless I want to open a few of them dragging their icons over the TextEdit icon in my Dock. Some will open, some will not, so finally I have to drag those that didn't open to TextEdit afterward.
Then, the files open and I continue to work with them with no problems.
This looks like a bug, is it known? How can it be reported to Apple?
    THank you.

The problems that you have encountered are most often caused by the CODEC that the files were encoded with. Both AVI and MOV are wrappers, and can contain a lot of different CODECs.
For the MOV, I'd look into QT-Pro for about US$39. It's just a registration key, but unlocks some decent power in QT. If the MOV plays fine in QT (Audio & Video), just do a Save_As and choose "Self-contained" MOV. Locate this in a separate folder. Then, Import these MOV files into Encore.
Personally, I'd use Premiere Pro as an intermediate step, but if you do not do any editing, Encore *should* then be able to handle everything. From PP, I'd Export as elemental streams, DV-AVI for the Video only and AC3 for the Audio only. These would get Imported into Encore.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - you might want to also post a link to the Encore tutorials, that you think were most helpful, as people always are asking for these. A list of good ones, could save others a lot of Googling - just a thought.

  • "Edit with" does not open all selected photos in PS3

If I select several photos and then click on "Edit with" Photoshop, often only one or a few of the selected photos will actually open up in Photoshop. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks,

    hey, peter
all selected photos should be opening in Photoshop as the external editor unless you're in Primary Only mode. click the Primary Only button icon that has the 1 in it, it's between the Viewer and Browser on right side

  • Quicktime Does Not Play All of .wmv File

I have had problems with Quicktime 6.5.2 cutting off .wmv video clips and not playing them to the end. I have viewed the files on a Windows machine and know there is more to them but Quicktime 6.5.2 doesn't play them to the end. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a solution? or has anyone experienced the same issue?

    Hi Rodney,
You can try Windows Media Player for Mac or
    the VLC player.
Some WMVs just don't play well in Quicktime.

Im running Mac OS X Lion 10.8.4.
When I try to open an mp4 or mv4.
Since these file types should be compatible with both QT 7 and QT X players (assuming the MPEG-4/AAC and/or H.264/AAC data was not encoded using a proprietary or hybrid codec and the files are properly terminated), either something is wrong with your computer or the file itself. Post or upload a sample file for examination.

  • QuickTime does not automatically open video clips when double clicked

Quicktime does not open video clips in iPhoto when the video clips are double clicked (nothing happens). Quicktime will open the video clip if I open quicktime
and ask it to open the video clip. Regular photos will expand as they should when they are double clicked.

It worked. I don't see why the Protected Mode is enabled in the first place, if it were to cause issues.
    Anyways, thanks Sabian,
