QuickTime fatal error during uninstalling

I'm trying to install itunes on my 3 year old Gateway desktop at home so I can sync my iphone to it and not to my work laptop that needs to be turned in. When trying to install itunes it gives me a fatal error message when trying to update QuickTime. I tried to delete it using Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs and that, too, gives me a fatal error. I tried to remove it using an "Uninstall QuickTime" icon which gives me the option of uninstalling or repairing. I tried both and neither worked.
When I tried to run it using an icon it too gives me an error. I tried to run it using Control Panel. This gave me a different error. It said "An exception occured while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTIme".
Applecare suggested I find a board somewhere and tell them my problem and see if anyone there knows what to do.
I'm on XP if that matters.

Please help! I am adding to this post as I have the same problem as mibsterwon, but have different files and folders within the system32 folder and don’t want to remove something I should’nt.
First a brief history of what went wrong. A few days ago, I opened up iTunes and got a pop-up advising me that a newer version of iTunes (v10) was available for download. I downloaded the latest versions of iTunes and QuickTime, but noticed that the QuickTime installation did not complete. When I tried to open QuickTime, it would not open. I tried downloading QuickTime again on it’s own, but it still would not open. So, I tried uninstalling QuickTime. Big mistake!
First, I tried uninstalling it using the “Uninstall QuickTime” icon under Start > All Programs > QuickTime. It went through the uninstall process, but at the end I got an Apple message saying that there was a problem with the uninstall, which had been aborted. I then tried to uninstall QuickTime via Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. This time, the uninstall process started, but I got the “fatal error” message. Tried several times, but to no avail. However, the QuickTime icons on my desktop, start menu and systray have all disappeared (although I still have About QuickTime, PictureViewer and Apple Software Update on the Start menu).
Problem now, is that iTunes won’t open! I have tried downloading iTunes 10 + QuickTime again. It said that the installation was successful, but iTunes still won’t start and there is no QuickTime.
I have looked in my system32 folder and have the following 3 QuickTime files and 1 QuickTime folder:
Files: QuickTime.qtp, QuickTime.qts, QuickTimeVR.qtx
QuickTime folder contains 7 QuickTime icons all ending in .qtx
There are no files or folders with iTunes in the name.
My OS is Windows XP SP3. Hope you can help.

  • I cannot uninstall QuickTime because of a "Fatal error during installation."

I want to un-install itunes.  Following the iTunes support guideline, I first removed iTunes.  I then clicked on REMOVE Quicktime in the Control Panel.
I received the message "Please wait while windows configures Quicktime".
I then received the error message "Fatal error during installation" - OK.
How can I now remove Quicktime and follow on through the Support route of the remaining iTunes elements?

DEPs for iTunes and a fatal error when trying to uninstall QuickTime.
I think we'd better see if some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in the system files on the PC. (If there's a version mismatch between the old componentry and the "QuickTime proper" componentry, that can create those symptoms, including the uninstall errors.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Fatal error during installation - Error 1603 ONLY on XP

    My Dears,
while installing any CS3 or CS4 Adobe product for my friend, at ~90% of installation error comes up:
    "Adobe Photoshop CS4
    Error:
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation."
I am struggling to solve it for 3 days now, and of corse I have seen and tryied all things proposed in posts like this: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/373577 , but still nothing helps me.
Thats list of all things that I have tryied to do:
    - CleanUp fix
    - Uninstalling all Adobe before fix
    - Turning Internet off fix
    - Turning anti-vir things off fix
    - Registery fix
    - Starting from CLEAN new system fix
    - Changing language from US to International fix
Still nothing. Probably thats the point of problem:
    Current Situation:
Got ACER ASPIRE x3200 desktop width Windows Vista (preinstalled), did clean installation of Windows XP and dumped Vista
There is no official drivers for XP, but got cracked chipset driver and official nVidia 8200 driver for XP from Internet
    Got all Service Packs
    100% legal
If nothing is working, maybe thats becaouse of my PC?! Installed it on my laptop with Vista 32b - WORKS (it means that installation CD is not corruptet or something). But then I have tryied to install it on another laptop with XP PRO - fail as with my PC. It seems that Windows XP Pro is not good for CS3 or CS4, BUT it did months before in my old unbranded PC.
Help! I really want to install that stuff.
    Best Regards,
    Westmidlander

I was only speaking very generally...  This is all common sense...
Adobe and other software makers are moving on from XP in their development.  Thus XP becomes more and more troublesome to use as the likelihood of problems increases.
In the case of installation, a lot of very specific things are required of an installer so that it can work on Windows 7.  The User Account Control (UAC) system and other security measures such as file permissions have to be completely and properly satisfied to install software on the newer systems.  Indeed, the application itself even has to work differently to be compliant - reference the recent 12.0.2 issues with loading scanner drivers for example, or the fact that Photoshop needs to put some things under C:\Users\... now that always used to be put under C:\Program Files\Adobe\...
It's not hard to imagine that Adobe isn't testing software as thoroughly on XP as they once did either.  Perhaps they missed one of the quirks of XP in pursuit of getting it to install properly on Windows 7.
You're putting a new cutting edge software application on an operating system designed nearly 10 years ago (an epoch in high tech).  That you don't see even more problems is a testament to Adobe's committment to support XP.

The "HP Print and Scan Doctor" reports software install problem on the scanner text.
In 2008 I bought an HP Pavilion Elite with Vista with a HP OfficeJet 5610 All-In-One connected through USB. About a year ago I upgraded to Windows 7 and print and scan worked OK. Last week I received an e-mail from HP for HP Print and Scan Doctor (ver 4.3) and installed it. I have had a problem trying to install the software updates that it said that I need. I have uninstall and reinstalled many times.
The HP Print and Scan Doctor said that the printing works but the scanner part fails at Registery, HP Scan Flow Manager, and Front Panel Test.
    Any help would be appreacited.
The HP Print and Scan Doctor reports:
A later version of software is available for this product.
I used the install file: AIO_CDB_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_130_141.EXE.

Try first going through this article to remove iTunes and Quicktime completely (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698).
After you remove everything, don't re-install yet. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301). After insalling that, remove any references of iTunes, Apple, or Quicktime in the list.
    Try re-installing now.

  • PhotoSmart C6280 - Fatal Error During Installation

I have Win 7 (64 bit) system and cannot install software for my C6280 All-In-One Printer.  I keep getting a "Fatal Error During Installation" message and then the software tries to uninstall.  During this process a reboot is required and then the software tries to install again and then fails.  I'm in a never ending circle of install-uninstall-install-uninstall........
How do I get out of this?  I want to completely uninstall all software associated with this printer and then start from the beginning.
The issue that brought about this situation was that I was getting the following message at bootup time:
"There was a problem starting C:\users\Myron\AppData\Local\IsolatedStorage\HP\zelqof.dll
The specified module could not be found."
I am assuming that the missing module would get installed if I re-install all of the associated software with the printer as this is the ONLY printer connected (USB) to this PC.

    Hello BigDog5280,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with a looping uninstall/reinstall of the software and drivers.
If you have Norton 360 installed, please disable it and reboot the computer.  When the computer is back on, attempt to reinstall with Norton 360 still disabled.
Here is a link to a document that deals with a Fatal Error 'Error 1603. A fatal error occurred during installation' (MSI Error 1603) Displays Durin...

  • VS 2015 - Fatal error during installation - Cannot read key

I'm trying to install Visual Studio 2015 Preview from the ISO image. I get this error

    Fatal error during installation
Here are the relevant parts of the log file

Trying to fix the permissions to the mentioned key (which I have done maybe ten times by now) only gives me a new error with a new key. Is there a better solution?
    Windows 8.1

    I downloaded the
Visual Studio 2015 Preview ISO Image in English onto Windows 7 PC. I didn't have an optical disk large enough to copy it to in order to install VS 2015 preview using ISO from optical disk drive.
So I used 7Zip to extract the files from the ISO into a folder on my desktop and then install it. There was no key needed as this is a preview version. So I was never asked about any key. Although it must've had a key that came with it because
after it installed I went to Help, Register Product and was advised after a bit that it updated with a key I suppose, even though it was already working, and the product was good for so many days.
Microsoft recommends the following for extracting files from an ISO in order to install the software without using an optical disk. I used 7Zip which is not recommended by MS.
The following tools offer .ISO file support:
    IsoBuster
    CDmage
    Daemon Tools
    Winrar
Also note: "Visual Studio 2015 Preview cannot be installed on a computer that has a previous version of Visual Studio "14" CTP installed. To install this release version, you must first
    uninstall any currently installed CTP."
And I had installed .Net Framework 4.6 preview prior to installing VS 2015 preview.

Hi Assennatog, the problem could be in the registry keys that are still present even if you completely uninstalled all the NI SW. So, after having uninstalled every NI apllication, try to execute the keys deleting proccess, by using MSIBlast, in the way it's explained in the attached doc. Ciao!

  • TS5376 When I try to remove "Apple Mobile Device Support" I get a "Fatal error during installation" message.  I have windows XP

The program will not start because MSVCR80.dll is missing.  I am trying to unistall I tunes and then reinstall it because the latest upgrade did not work.  I was able to remove "Itunes" and "apple Software update' but when I tried to remove "Apple mobile device support" I get a "fatal error during installation" message.

First try a repair install of Apple Mobile Device Support. If that goes through successfully, restart the PC and see if you can now uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support.
If the Repair install doesn't help, try using the fixit from the following Microsoft document to remove Apple Mobile Device Support:
Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled
