Quicktime not opening in Vista

My itunes movie and video's no longer work since the last QT update. I can't open QT stand alone either. It'll show on the task bar that it is open but nothing on my desktop. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both itunes/QT with no luck. I've changed the acceleration also which didn't help.
Anyone have a suggestion?

This worked for me after hours of searching. I cried I was so happy! Thought I'd have to return my pc.
Start button -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on Command Prompt, select 'Run as administrator'.
You should be in directory C:\Windows\System32
Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll (enter)
Should get a message box saying DLL has been registered.
Run the installer again.
Thanks to clancyp from msdn forum.

  • Firefox will not open in Vista SP2 after installing software for a Brother MFC printer.

I have 7 computer network. All the machines are running Vista SP2. I recently purchased a Brother MFC 9325cw, and installed the printer/scanner drivers as well as a program called scansoft paperport on each of the machines individually.
I left out the some of the bulkier aspects of the driver package, namely the brother control center because it seems to eat up a lot ram at start up.
Since I have installed the printer driver on my computers, several of them will not open firefox.
I have tried re-installing firefox on one machine so far to no avail.
Next I will try to re-install the brother software. Has anyone else encountered this problem before?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox will not open in Vista after upgrading to 9.

I updated FF to ver. 9, now it will not open at all. I have tried downloading it and re-installing, but I get an error message that: FF is already running and that it must be shutdown first. Then I tried to uninstall FF in completely, but again I get the message that it is "already running and must shutdown first." Also, I have tried to open FFin safe mode, but that does not work either. Vista all my AV is up to date. Side note IE9 and chrome work fine. Thanks.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • SSRS Report Manager does not open on Vista Business Edition machine - Server Error in '/Reports' Application

    Hi
    Thank you for your support.
I have a Vista laptop that cannot connect to Report Manager URL. Same Windows account on an XP machine works just fine.
Note: - Reporting Services is not installed on Vista machine , this is a client that connects to a SQL Server 2008 R2 and Reporting server instance.
On Vista workstation, I tried diabling UAC, tried Run As, added trusted sites, other browsers, IP/FQDN/name changes in URL. - no change.

    Hi Macca,
Per my understanding that you got the error message when access the report manager in the client vista machine which have't install the reporting services instance and access to the Windows XP machine works fine, right?
I assumed that you have installed the Reporting Services instance in this WIndows XP machine, Could you please check in the third machine with the vista os to see if you will got the same error message.
The issue can be caused by many factors:
If the third machine can connect to the report manager remotely, the issue can be caused by this vista machine.

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630430(v=sql.105).aspx
If the other machine also can't access the report manager, the issue caused by some configuration not correct for the remote connection(https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156305.aspx)
If you are using Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you must configure Report Manager for local administration, please check to make sure the "Service Account" is the domain/user account which exists in the local administrator group.
Please check the rsreportserver.config file and make sure <RSWindowsNegotiate/> is the first value in <AuthenticationTypes> section. By default, the rsreportserver.config file is located in the path like: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting

  • Quicktime not opening AVI files in Lion.

I just installed OS X Lion but when I try to open any AVI video with Quicktime that reads "The Document <filename> could not be opened. A required codec is not available." I clicked the "Tell Me More" button and I redownloaded the DIVX codec but my files still don't open with quicktime. Is it possible that my codec is not compatible with Quicktime for Lion? But then again the Quicktime application is still the same, it hasn't been updated since Snow Leopard. Is anyone else encountering this?

divx might interfere with perian because perian already covers divx and xvid. Only one solution, not both..
simply uninstall every 3rd party codecs you have installed and go with just one if there are more then one to choose from.
Perian and WMV ( flip4mac ) is all I have on Lion and it plays everything, even downloaded youtube videos ( flvs ), the videos my Samsung mobile phone makes and the strange encoded avis that my sister sends me via email from her vista machine.

  • ITunes not opening with Vista 64-bit

I am not able to open iTunes on my system. I have the latest version installed as well as Quicktime. When I double-click on the iTunes icon on my desktop, nothing happens. I will get the hour glass for maybe 5 seconds and then nothing after that. My Quicktime works fine. Some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Quicktime not opening .avi files

After I've upgraded to Lion, QuickTime stopped playing .avi movies.
I've Perian codec installed and I've tried to disable it and both with it enabled or disabled QuickTime does not work.
Moreover, I've another problem: after having selected the option "open this file always with VLC" the system is still not working properly since it keeps opening .avi videos with QT.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    Remove Perian and restart.
Remove FlipFor Mac and restart (you are ?).
    Install Perian and restart.
In Perian prefs plane : "desable" Load external subtitle
Work for me ! Good Luck.
Latest Version 2.3.8.1 not support OSX Lion
    Intel or PowerPC G4 & G5
    Mac OS X 10.4–10.6*
Note: Support for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion coming soon
    QuickTime 7 or later
Note: QuickTime X does not support conversion using third-party plug-ins. For Snow Leopard and Lion users, , we recommend installing QuickTime 7.6.6.

  • ITunes and QuickTime not opening - why?

Recently iTunes and Quicktime haven't been opening, whether when I ask media to be opened in them or if I open them directly. They display as being open in the dock, but never actually do open and I always have to end up Force Quitting them.
Why would this occur and how can I resolve the problem?

For those reading this who do not have a QuickTime settings icon visable in their Control Panel window - look to the top left of the Control Panel window and click on Classic View.
The QuickTime icon will be visible.
I did have K-Lite but I installed it as part of WMPod after I had all this palarva, thinking I would then be able to sync via Windows Media Player. Not so, Windows Media Player did not recognise the plug in - did not have it listed in the options windows.
    When I double clicked on the QuickTime icon in Control Panel (classic view) I got this message;
An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Quicktime.cpl",Quicktime"
I had in fact deleted what I thought were duplicate QT plugins (there were half a dozen in the Programs\Internet Eplorer folder and more in Mozilla).
So I downloaded QuickTime (again) and selected repair once the installation window was up. Double clicked on QuickTime in Control Panel again.
    Same message again.

  • PSE7 (editor) not opening for Vista 64-bit, any insight?

Six months ago I bought a new Dell laptop with Elements 7.0 and up until a few days ago it was working great.
Now, when I double-click on a .jpg, and as Photoshop is loading I get an error message saying that editor has stopped working and has to close, which is the only option I have.  I haven't been able to access the full editor function for almost a week.  Today after a total of 4 hours on the phone with Dell they were useless.  I talked to both hardware and software departments and though they tried they couldn't figure out what was going on.  I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the program which I have on disk.  The organizer opens fine but no way to open the full editor.
So, I guess I have two questions?
    1) Is this in fact a problem with my computer or could it be the adobe software?
and 2)  If I were to buy PSE8 and simply bag the old program would that work better on my PC with Vista-64, or might I still suffer the same inability to open the editor?
Perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree here, but I had to pose the questions.  So frustrated, any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.  I have no idea what to do by this point.  Thanks.

Unfortunately, there are many reasons why the PSE Editor might crash, and often it is hard to diagnose quickly the reason for the crash.   Here are some steps you can take to try to fix the problem. Even if you think you’ve tried some of these before, try them again, precisely as described here:

  • NEW - Quicktime not opening .mp4 files

I posted this in another topic, but want it to be seen.
I am having a similar problem. .mp4s are not playing. Used Handbrake to create an .mp4 file. It plays fine on every system but the one I need it to play on. Quicktime 7 won't play any video, just a white screen like it is missing a codec. I haven't had this problem before, and nothing has been recently installed that would effect Quicktime. Is there an easy way to reinstall the codecs? I've reinstalled Quicktime several times with no effect, recreated the .mp4 file several times, everything else plays fine. The .mp4 plays in Compressor, iTunes, and, oddly enough, Full Screen mode in QT player, but not in the regular mode. Any ideas?

These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything:
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • ITunes 7.6 (and QuickTime) not opening, error

This is driving me insane, iTunes (from version 7) has never worked on my computer and I feel like I have exhausted every option from support pages. It (and QuickTime) installed successfully but as soon as I try to open either iTunes or QuickTime I simply get the standard malfunctioning message: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I'd send you the error report, except its huge. Any help would be hugely appreciated, as there is no chance in **** i'm buying an iPod without this sorted. Thanks
    Matt

Oh, and I've already checked and tried the FAQ bit..

  • Quicktime not opening nor allowing me to uninstall

    Hi,
Recently I bought a software to use on my computer. After downloading it, it informed that I needed to download the newest version of Quicktime in order to run it. After downloading Quicktime, though, it won't open nor allow me to uninstall, hence, causing the other program to be inoperative as well.
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thank you.

You need to do what the message says, that's all. You are in good company, several people a week are baffled by this message, something which honestly baffles me. Still, it's obviously bad design if it isn't intuitive.
To launch an any app, just open a Finder window and look for Applications in the left hand column. Look in it and all your applications are there.
Double click on Adobe Reader to launch it. If there is more than one shown, launch and quit each one in turn.
