QuickTime Player vs Mac File Share

I used FCP to capture some mov files under Mac, and used Mac File Share option (SMB) to share the folder, then I tried to open the mov file from QT by used the Windows XP system; However, I got this error message
"Error -2000: a necessary data reference could not be resolved"
The UNC pathe for the mov file is: \\Mac0016cba81596\fcp data\Capture Scratch\Untitled Project 1\Untitled
If I copy the mov file from UNC location to local system, then I am able to open the file by use QT in XP system.
any idea why the QT can NOT open file from UNC path under Windows?

hmmmmm.....
I just made a post in the 10.5.3 forums about this or something very much like it...
Basically, before 10.5.2, I could happily view .movs on my PC when they were served from my Mac via SMB.
With 10.5.2 and 10.5.3, I get the error message that the OP gave. If I copy the file to the PC, they can be opened just fine. These are full files, not reference files.
Any input? I hadn't complained about this in 10.5.2 because I thought it would be fixed pretty quickly and also because there were a ton of really good file sharing improvements, so overall 10.5.2 was a net positive. If Apple has decided to store these files differently, that's not a good thing for interoperability.
There are no issues viewing the files over AFP Mac to Mac.

How do I launch Quicktime Player on Mac Book Air? I know that my computer came with it, and when I try to launch it, the icon tells me that it is Version 10.1. Nothing else happens. I wanted to watch some online videos which require the plug in, but the plug in says that it needs my permission to run. In Chrome, it is enabled, and yet it doesn't play, In Safari as well.
    Thanks in advance.

Or try the pause key which likely the F7 key.

before using for all entries in, u need to check whether the driver internal table is empty, if it is empty, u should not enter into select statement.
if u wont use this check means, when the driver internal table is empty, the second select will take all the entires from the tables.

  • QuickTime Player cannot open files in the "data" format.

The title above is an exact clip from error message rcvd when quicktime loads after clicking on a web hyperlink.  I enjoy the simplicity of a mac and don't like having to make things work smoothly myself.
The error as quoted doesn't show up when searching the quicktime section of this forum, so I'm contributing it for all the other users who experience the same show-stopper and will appreciate a solution that doesn't require too much more than just Apple>Software update, or some similar scenario.
p.s. I saw some solution mentioning components out of date.  I have no idea, nor wish to know about these.  Hope I don't have to go there!

    1. There isn't a window player for the MAC.

  • What is the most recent upgrade for Quicktime player for Mac OX 10.7.5

I have iOS 10.7.5 on my iMac.  Recently my quicktime player won't play a slideshow created in Quicktime.
Can I upgrade my quicktime player application? If so, how?
    Thank you.  Mrs. D

It is installed along with OS X. The current version is 10.3 and is part of Yosemite.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • Why won't QuickTime player play avi files?

Suddenly, QuickTime player on my MacBook won't play AVI files. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Install QuickTime Player 7.6.6 (in addition to QuickTime X). Lion users can run two versions of QuickTime.

  • Quicktime Player wont stretch file when going to full screen

Not used it for a while, but i opened up a movile file in Quicktime player today (for example one of the leopard videos from apple.com), and when i selected Cmd F to run in full screen, the 'movie' file stayed the same size, and put a big black border round it.
It used to stretch fit the whole screen, but not any more!
Is there an option i have missed/messed with which stops the file running in true full (fit) to screen?
    Latest version of QT etc...
    Thanks

    Thank you
I looked at the full screen options, but thought that touching these would have made the movie open in fit to screen mode, which is what i didnt want, i needed them to open in there normal size, then doing the CMD F did full screen and fit to screen automatically (doh!)

  • Quicktime Player not playing files off desktop

    5K iMac
    OSX 10.10.1
This is a video editing machine that has AJA Kona 3G drivers and codecs installed.
FCP X, FCP 7, and Premiere Pro have been installed on it.
FCP X has been removed using the Digital Rebellion FCS remover utility.
Trying to get Premiere to be more stable, I removed unneeded codecs from:
    /Library/QuickTime
At the moment I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything (FCP 7, Premiere, Kona 3G Drivers), and all those codecs are back in the /Library/QuickTime folder.
ProRes and H.264 .movs are playing fine in the Applications and in Quicklook.
But when I right click on file and open with Quicktime Player, the app opens and shows up in the dock, but the file does not open.
If I try "file -> open file" from the Quicktime app, I select a bog standard H.264, the app crashes.
If I open Quicktime and do a screen recording or movie capture, it works. I can close out and open that movie capture in Quicktime player.
I installed Quicktime 7 and it is working fine.
Mpeg Streamclip can play all those files back.
Any ideas on troubleshooting, or maybe just resetting Quicktime player back to a default state?

Never mind. After I had uninstalled, reinstalled, updated everything...
it still needed one more reboot. Then it worked again.

  • Accessing Mac File Share from Windows Server 2003

I currently have a windows domain that has a few Mac OS x leopard servers on it. I can map a drive to the Mac share using windows XP and Windows Vista, but I cannot map the drive in Windows Server 2003. I have enabled the Windows Sharing on the Mac server, and enabled the Mac File Sharing on the Windows server, but the windows server does not find the Mac server. I can ping the Mac server by FQDN and IP, but when I go to map a drive to it I get the error:
The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: An unexpected network error occurred.
I have also checked the Local Security Policies, and did not find anything that would cause the issue. Any ideas anyone?

  • Why won't my mac file share with my network?

I want to share my files throughout my home network, but my mac computer is the only one that is causing trouble. My other windows computers and the USB drive connected to my router is working fine. Whenever I try to look for these devices through the network folder on my mac computer, it just sits there and no other devices appear. On any other computer, they will show up within 5 seconds. I have let it sit for 5 minutes and I nothing has found up.
How can I get these computers and usb drive to show up. This mac has been resisting me the whole way when it comes to network.

  • Hi, Know any other ways to quit QuickTime player for Mac OS x Lion, Other than using the command control Q Because it is just frozen and it won't quit the program.

Alright I started experiencing this problem about a week ago and It will just keep "Finishing..." up the screen recording but it wont let me shut down the mac, Nor will it let me Force quit this program to quit it because it is just annoying there, not being able to close down. If anyone has a solution, please do let me know. Again, I am using a Mac OS X Lion, 2011 Version.

You may also want to reset the plist of quicktime. Go to your users Library then look for Preferences folder. Look for com.apple.QuicktimePlayer.plist. Drag the plist on the desktop and try using quicktime again. I hope the problem is not the graphic card.

  • My Quicktime Player Screen Recording File is too big

Whenever I record a video it is too big. To test it out I recorded a 3 second video and it was 5mb. Please help I really want to screen record.

Too big for what? Can you record a full session without the Mac freezing or locking up?
You can record the file & recompress it afterwards to make it use less storage size if you want.
Evom is a simple tool for simple video converting …
    http://thelittleappfactory.com/evom/
Or you could probably use Screenflow (or iMovie) if you need complex editing etc…
    http://www.telestream.net/screenflow/overview.htm
Handbrake is another (free) option for compressing & converting video.

Just be aware that if the video is tiny it may be impossible to see what is going on, make sure your display settings make things big enough when you capture.

  • HT5409 Avchd files *.MTS are not recognized by QuickTime Player in OS X 10.8.3

I have some acvhd files named as 00036.MTS and they play pretty good with VLC. I got all excited when I read that in OS X 10.8.3 that the QuickTime Player will have support for avchd files. I just upgraded three machines to OS X10.8.3 a Macbook Air, Mac Mini and an iMac, when I click on an a 00036.MTS file it defaults to VLC and if I right click and select to use an application to use QuickTime does not display. If I select all applictaions then select QuickTime, I am told QuickTime may not recognize this format. I click ok and get, "The document "00036.MTS" could not be opened, QuickTime Player cannot open files of this type. The avchd files have been created with a Sony camera.
What do I need to do to get this to work?
    Walter

It looks like you need to keep them packaged in their file hierarchy, not open the .mts files directly. See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5409

  • Loading a clip in QuickTime Player using a href?

I know you can do this using the embed tag and target="QuickTimePlayer" but is there a way using HTML or JavaScript to make this simply a href as I want it to just say "Click here to load clip in standalone player".
    Hope someone can help?
    Cheers
    Bruce

The free QuickTime Player can open any URL.
Just ask your page visitors to "copy" (instead of click on) your link. Open QuickTime Player, "Open URL" (File menu) and paste the link.
    Try it.

  • I want to pay QuickTime Player But . . . !!!

    my account is Saudi Arabian.
And I want to pay new Version of QuickTime Player for Mac OS X version 10.7.2.
How can I get it ?

Sorry, but to the best of my knowledge, Apple only sells QuickTime Pro keys (which is what I presume you mean) in countries where Apple has an online Apple Store. Since they do not in Saudi Arabia, I don't believe there is any way you can purchase a Pro key yourself. You will probably have to get someone in a country where the keys are available to purchase one for you.
    Regards.
